Things we know

Just getting these out there so we know we are all in agreement:

1) Conditions seem a bit strong
2) World bosses are currently too easy
3) There are some bugged skills and traits
4) There are some overpowered builds

We won’t fix it all at once but these are four large topics we are talking about. In the meantime keep the feedback and bug reports coming, and I guess farm up some world bosses. We are dedicating time towards these issues and are intending to resolve them as quickly as possible. As we have said before, the live environment differs too greatly from anything we can reliably simulate internally so big changes like today’s build will cause things to sometimes change at an alarming rateTM.

Thanks for your patience,

Jon

PLEASE dont nerf necros conditions that they apply themselves, necros are doing a lot in terms of boon corruption and condition transfer but it doesnt affect pve that much so if you nerf the conditions that we apply ourselves you are dooming us to power builds….. again…. and even now conditions that we apply feel week when compared to our power builds.

Necros pve condi dps is already significantly behind power because ya know… boon conversion and condi transfer doesnt work so great there. If we get nerfed then its back to power I guess and all of this condition change will be for nothing when it comes to necros.

Zalavaaris.5329

Maybe I’m just bad and need someone to show me the pve necro condi dps way. Lol

My build is very personalized and I’ve kept it as close to the pre-patch build as possible. But my condition burst rotation goes like this;

Start with staff. -> Chillblains (poison, chill) -> Mark Of Blood (bleed) -> enter Death Shroud -> Dark Path (bleed, chill) -> Life Blast (burn, vulnerability) -> Tainted Shackles (torment, immobilize) -> Doom (fear/terror) -> exit Death Shroud, switch to scepter/dagger immediately to synchronize weapon swap and DS cooldowns -> Grasping Dead (bleed, cripple) -> Enfeebling Blood (bleed, weakness) -> Feast Of Corruption.

Once practiced, this full rotation can be cast in roughly 3seconds or so. The Death Shroud part in particular can all be chained together exceptionally fast. Once you’re in melee range after Dark Path, Life Blast hits immediately, Tainted Shackles has no cast time and neither does Doom. I don’t know about PvE damage to be honest but in WvW at least it is extremely devastating to be hit by. If I land Dark Path on someone it’s pretty easy to follow up with the rest of the rotation and most people melt like butter after that.

Thanks a lot, I’ll look into that. Currently I use my signet that applies all the condis, blood is power, then another corruption that I forgot the name of. Then I use staff 4, then 2,3,then 5. Switch weapons and use scepter 2,5,then 3. Then into DS and use DS 5, 4, 1, then 3. Then I exit and go back into scepter dagger.

This makes me so mad.....

Rly, just fought several condi Roamers (including engies) in WvW on a condi Necro build… I won all fights… some even with super ease. One (semi)passive condition transfer and 2 active ones are enough to punish anyone for applying conditions to you.

Oh that sounds totally possible but I’m not talking about pvp and that seems what everyone is talking about. I’m talking about our condition specs being bad in a good old fashion pve environment. Basically I want more dots damage. I’m talking like constant 4-5k bleed ticks. When my DS 1 is hitting for 7-9k that should be a reasonable request.

This makes me so mad.....

3k bleed ticks? What about the poison ticks and fear ticks? And was the duration on the condis close?

Poison wasn’t doing too much, maybe 600 dmg and as far as fear goes I was on an indestructible dummy so it wasn’t on it often.

EDIT: I was wrong, poison was under 400 dmg after 20ish seconds of ramp up time

Ive NEVER played an engie before and ive ALWAYS played a necro. I was working with my necros condition dps and when I did the rotation the way it should be done I got 3k ticks with bleeds but with a ramp up of almost 20 seconds. I switch over to the class ive NEVER played as a level one and when I went to the dummies I was able to do 6k burn ticks without any practice, just about 3-5 minutes looking at different kits…. Im sick of this

I knew it, we are gonna be OP

And what do we do in pve? Stack our 15 stacks of bleeds doing 1800 dmg with a 25 second ramp up while others are stacking 4-7k dmg per second with a 4 second ramp up?

You know if you don’t buy the ultimate and instead buy two copies of hot you will have 6 new character slots AND two accounts for daily log in rewards. 2 months of that and you’ll have your 4k worth of gems in gold. The rest after 2 months is all profit.

What’s the calculation method you used to get 4k worth of gems in 2 months?

Its contingent on the price of t6 mats and aquiring 110 laurels from log in rewards. It MAY take longer than that but you should be able to make roughly 500g from doing that from a couple months of logging in. Its also contingent on transferring all gems to gold.

Ok this new build will be the suicide necro. You summon your minions, run in and dot the enemy up, use your heal to apply the 10 vulnerable then use all of your corruption skills plus plague. Hopefully you dot the enemy up and when you go into plague you’re minions explode poisoning your oponent. This is right about the time you kill yourself from the crazy high condi dmg and 10 vulnerable stacks. Don’t worry though, your oponent won’t mind helping you kill yourself. Then you just down state them until victory. New meta!

The funny thing is, this was really just a joke because you can get the 4k gems worth of value from daily log in bonuses from two accounts rather quickly, have 5 more slots, and the storage that comes with a second account. Way more value than the ultimate edition. I almost bought the ultimate but if I do anything I might just go this route. It’s not like all of the things that come with the deluxe can’t be bought for gems anyway.

Well you can! Just upgrade your current account for 50 then buy a NEW account for 50. Much more value than some gems. And if you’re patient you can make more money from t6 mats from log in bonuses than the 4k they’d give you. Lol

The gems at half price are worth more to me.

From 2 accounts you can get 110 laurels a month from the log in. That’s probably a couple hundred gold worth of t6 mats. 2 months you could make the value of 4k gems back to break even then it’s all profit from that point on. More like a proper investment and the only risk is if anet shuts the game down for good. Lol

I don’t understand why people are crying about character slots at all.

A character slot should not cost ANYTHING extra when you are getting an expansion with a new class. Not REAL money nor the time it takes to get FAKE money. It shouldn’t come out of our pockets.

It’s not about the numbers of content you are getting. It’s about the quality of content they give you.
Stop riding on those stupid numbers.
Shall they just add 500 new world bosses that are all the same so they can advertise some fancy numbers?

Wait until you see the beta and then you can decide if the quantity but especially the quality of content is enaugh for you.

It’s just pointless to discuss it now.

Actually it’s about numbers AND quality. They knocked it out of the park with the base game st $60 so if we don’t get at least 83% of what the base game offered then it’s not worth $50. (50/60=83% for those wondering what that percentage was)

Thank You!

Zalavaaris.5329

So, I think I figured out why the valuation of $50 for the content offered is throwing me off. The funny thing is, it has nothing to do with the content being bad or anything because its Anet and GW2, it wont be bad. However, I think they shot themselves in the foot when they released the base game. For $60 they released this world that was vast, immersive, and interesting that was filled with a friendly community from the get go. The $50 price point is 83% of the cost of the original game which means that in order for Anet to match the level of value from the base game they would have to supply at least 83% of what the base game offered. I can’t compare HoT to any other game by any other makers I can only compare it to the base game and Anet set the bar so high for the cost I dont know from what ive seen if they can reach that again.

You won’t weasel your way out of this. What is the worth of Guild Wars 2?

If you separate the game into core and expansion: core value is zero. expansion is 50$
If you see it as one big game that is being updated by HoT: 50$

In that case $50 is over priced. Its a good deal with the original game thrown in but without its just too expensive for what you get.

So what IS the value of HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zalavaaris.5329

Zalavaaris.5329

On a game that came with SOOO much for $60 the expansion will not even come CLOSE to that amount of content (which is what im comparing it to) so I would say if it comes with a character slot the expansion is worth $40 and thats a generous valuation because at 2/3 the price of the original it should have 2/3 the content but I doubt it will. The rest of that valuation comes from good faith that future content will be amazing.

That happens too. Consider the promotional offer with 0 membership fee + no contract also comes with a discount on your first set of personal trainer fees. Technically, the offer still applies to me since I don’t use a personal trainer but had I used any such services before, I couldn’t apply for the same discount.

Again, different. You were fully aware that the discount is a one-time-only deal when you first signed up and accepted it, so you are not entitled to it any more each time you renew your membership.

Nobody told us we were going to pay for the game again for each expansion, but not only receive it once.

You aren’t paying for the game again…

So they say and obviously they would say that. We are either paying for it again when we don’t need to thus being overcharges or the expac really is $50 on it’s own and in that case we are also being overcharged so…. pick your poison.

A point of perspective

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zalavaaris.5329

Zalavaaris.5329

Hi all,

well, i’ve been reading and commenting (when i felt like it) on the latest topics about the expansion, and so far, all one can agree upon is the community in an uproar.

As a reasonnable ‘newbie’ , playing for only a couple of months, i’m quite baffled and confused by this whole expansion thing.

Personally i won’t preorder HoT, not because of the pricing, but because i don’t know what is going to be in it. And as far as the packaging goes, well, that’s another story.

Anet marketing division has imo made a HUGE mistake in promoting the expansion as a packaged deal with the original core game, which a lot of “veterans” percieve as unfair. Wether that’s true or not is not my concern.

But did anyone consider another perspective ? That of the actual developers and programmers of the expansion ? Those guys & gals have worked their kitten off and still are in order to bring something new and refreshing to the game.

Something a lot of people been asking for. And now, because of a terrible miscommunication and/or marketing concept/idea, their whole work is basically ignored.

The main question should be : is the expansion’s content worth getting for the price they advertise it for ? It is something you want to add to the game ?

If i were one of the devs working on the expansion, i’d be gutted seeing my work ignored in favor of the uproar about some badly conceived marketing idea.
But maybe that’s just me.

I’ve been given this game as a present, and i’ve spend some money on the gemstore, so i don’t really care how much they ask for the expansion, i just enjoyed these months ingame wondering if and what they were going to add. Which i still don’t know much about, only what Anet tells us.

As far as i’m concerned, i’m curious what it’s going to be, and seeing what already is in the core game, i’m hopeful that it’s going to be awesome, at least more then what we are being shown thus far.

Hopefully some of the gamers here are wondering the same thing. Is it going to be something for everyone (WvW/Guilds/quests/PvP/…etc) ? Or is it going to be a “bleh, not interested” kind of thing ?

I think, while the community might be right about the whole marketing thing, people should also not forget that those same dev’s brought us the core game (which imo is awesome)…wishing they do it again (baffle us).

Just wanted to get this idea out.
Thx for reading.

Oh yea, if I were a dev i’d be livid that my hard work is being overlooked because of something the department in charge of pricing had created. I blame anet for this big screw up but not the actual makers of the game. They are doing a great job! (Other than consume conditions but that’s for a different thread lol)

I just think it would be awesome. I’m imagining it now, someone is losing badly, my chill is in them but they are I’m luck because their movement ability isn’t affected! Sadly for them when they use it after they get 400 range away they are knocked to the ground and now have some vulnerability. At this point I’m on him and he is chilled again and dies horribly. Not providing a character slot in an expansion that adds a new class, is kittening the playerbase, whichever way you spin it.

Not even counting the other 2 issues:
- expansion is very light on content for $50/bad value
- old players effectively subsidising new players/old players getting kittened over

You have played the game for up to 3 years, LS1 (new people cannot play), LS2 (new people must pay), got a level 80 ready to jump into the new content, have in game financial headstart on the new people. Old players are not subsidising new ones – new ones are just not being asked to pay for the core game (which they are getting 3yrs late).

They haven’t announced enough to get you to preorder – thats entirely logical and fine – you don’t then cause such an outcry that its being covered by the media (its the outcry they are covering not the preorder).

Again the extra char slot is £5 is it worth the damage of the Guild Wars name? When people google “GW2” you know what they’ll see? Lots of screaming from people and they’ll be put off… This is bad for the game.

Think more long term than £5, the shock and damage to the Guild Wars reputation as a good game – and it is, look how many people are posting so passionately – will really hurt its future. I hope no one here would want that.

Maybe a swift kick in the kitten is what they need to get the message that their customers deserve at least their respect. They are making a VERY large portion of their customers feel bad when thinking about something that should be exciting. Not addressing that and finding a way to make us feel better about our purchase is extremely disappointing. I’m less angry than I am disappointed that my FAVORITE mmo makers are making me feel like they are trying to squeeze every dime from me as they can while showing us very little of what is going to come in return.

Your complaint then is that they opened the preorder too early before you’d seen more of the game, they wanted to do it on a big stage and I guess the timing backfired a little. They aren’t trying to squeeze every dime from you they are releasing the game at market rates. They haven’t made a bad Guild Wars title yet so have a little faith and don’t preorder until they satisfy you (even wait until after launch and you see a trusted review).

People have been swept up in a wave of emotion over very small issues (no extra presents for preordering). It is just a marketting choice (arguably the wrong one) but not worth the bad press for OUR game.

I dont think they are trying to scam me or pull one over my eyes but most people who are complaining about this issue probably had the same thought I had when I saw the pre-order. Oh wow…. what a great deal for new players! I should tell my friends to go ahead and buy it while the deal is good. Then I thought, ok where do I get my expac only for cheaper to match the amount of content. It almost made the stomach hurt to realize that we are both meant to purchase the same package. Not a good feeling.

You will be just like the scary movie monsters that slowly stalk the enemy. So basically all you need to do is wait for your opponent to trip over their own feet so you can catch them, just like they do in the movies.

Or better yet, a condition with a tether mechanic that has to be applied in melee range and if the person who its applied to leaves that range they are knocked down

Ok so, heres how im feeling about this whole pricing controversy…. First I can say im not happy about it but few people are, so… lets talk about the options. I feel almost pushed into the ultimate edition of HoT and heres why. The base version comes with…. the game… for $50? Thats not really worth it for this little content (I know people will throw out the no sub fee argument and while thats all nice and good, that was A-Nets choice to make, not mine and they must live with the financial consequences of it). The only redeeming factor to make it worth the $50 is in the even that raids are introduced. The deluxe edition comes with a character slot and a bunch of other crap that I probably wouldnt use. So we COULD say that $10 of that 75 goes to the character slot, $50 for the game, and $15 for the extra stuff I wouldnt buy normally. I would buy the 10 dollars character slot but still… its $50 for the game that I dont feel is worth the amount of content (being shown anyway). Now…. the ultimate edition…. This seems to be the best value in that you can say the expansion is really only costing $40 (the right price if not slightly high), the minis and crap I dont want would be part of the expansion (go freebies!), the character slot would remain $10 dollars bringing the price up to $50 for both the expac and the character slot, and THEN $50 worth of gems I probably will buy anyway over the course of my playtime. Unfortunately as a veteran of GW2 I feel like if I DONT buy the ultimate edition im getting taken advantage of. However, if I do buy it… well…. theres $100 gone…. I dont know what the solution is or even if there is one but I know that this announcement is not making me feel good and excited like a new product should. Not a fun experience so far.

TLDR: $50 gets you an overpriced expac, $75 same problem and over priced goodies, $100 version effectively makes the expac $40, the char slot $10, and the gems worth the $50 that they cost. All goodies with the $100 version could be seen as free in this version.

To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.

Oh ok so basically what you’re saying is that you’re ok with overcharging by $15 for something that is closer related to a dlc instead of an expansion. Thanks for clearing that up….

What it boils down to is that to me, just my opinion, but I feel all physical power based damage all the time in every dungeon for every class being best ALWAYS is monotonous.

Okay so like Zerker is bad because it feels monotonous to you.. But you can’t explain how your changes would end this monotony, or what your changes would be, or even why having your armor read a certain name causes this dread boredom..

Well don’t sweat it – condition damage will be a thing.

Did you happen to read my post with my encounter example? That’s how you fix it. And what I think will be good for the game is really just my opinion about what is fun. New encounters is the way you go about fixing the only zerker all the time. I want my character to be optimal at all times because I can’t stand the idea that I could be better so it would take that stress off if they said no matter what you do you won’t be optimal 100% of the time. If I were a condi class in my example I would not be optimal for add duty. As a power build I wouldn’t be optimal on boss damage. That is appealing to me and would make the game better in a couple ways. 1.) It would HOPEFULLY eliminate the “link your zerker or you’re out” mentality and 2.) Having different roles even if they are all damage roles within an encounter. I know corner stacking isn’t a thing because it doesn’t need to be
You still stack, stack as much might as possible, then you just freeze the boss (when you can) avoiding mechanics and just burning it down before your buffs drop.

Survival stats should NEVER touch the kind of damage that full glass does. I HATE the fact that end game pve is solo clearing…. playing alone…. in an mmo…. I’m frustrated because I feel like pve is taking a back seat. But hey, none of us can really be too up in arms about it as they haven’t anounced their challenging group content. Dedicated roles would suck if they were mandatory but finding value in a supporty healer type equal to a damage role (everything is better in moderation lol) would be a welcome change. What it boils down to is that to me, just my opinion, but I feel all physical power based damage all the time in every dungeon for every class being best ALWAYS is monotonous.

Ok, a few things, I don’t want ANY gear to be best in ALL situations. I do NOT want the holy trinity. I do NOT want berserker gear to be bad. I want it to be good, hell, even best in SOME situations, but not all.

But you haven’t explained how this makes the game better. Does having more preparation in dungeons improve the experience for the players? Oh yeah – now I have to bring a nomad set? Do you think anyone outside of you would be excited about that? Do you think more people would do dungeons because you now have a gear grind hurdle?

Its not even the fact that it’s the best gear for ALL dungeons but the fact it’s best for ALL dungeons AND ALL classes. And a final note, the game isn’t boring to me due to one gear set being best.

And the problem with is what from a gameplay perspective? Do you suffer because you see the wrong letters near your armor? Or is it a loot problem? You are not explaining this ‘problem’ other then restating it. It’s like saying the problem with ice cream is ice cream.. Let’s do something about this ice cream problem. LMAO.

Will you be satisfied with the upcoming condi buff? You will see sinister and rabid really popular.

What I don’t like is how the great gw2 community has turned into a wannabe meta cesspool that provides a toxic environment to anyone with a different opinion. I want the gear link crap and that mindset to be destroyed and burned.

Community seems fine – I’d try a different guild. There is always going to be ‘fastest’ possible combination – unless you make all gear the same (which would be the same as removing all gear).

You need some rationale with your theory. I personally think a soft trinity would be cool. So like 3 max DPSers + 1 tanky dude and 1 healy dude > 5 DPSers in terms of clearing content. That would be okay with me. But just saying you don’t like beserker because its the best is nonsensical.

Something is always going to be the best. Right now Arenanet says – hey you want to clear content the fastest – wear the armor with the least defensive stats and play well. But want to clear content any old way? Any old armor will do.

That seems downright logical.. sorry man. I think Arenanet has it right – and you haven’t really thought about what you are saying at all..

It all comes down to opinion and you obviously dont agree with mine. My opinion is that quickly stacking might with a full zerker group and burning a boss down while stacking in a corner negating ALL mechanics for the sake of the clock is super boring. The problem is that is what you can aspire to do as a pver wanting end game content. Ive done that content and its boring to me and a lot of other people as well. You say I have no rational in my thoughts but I think you are blatantly ignoring my rational. By the way, they arent just letters next to the gear, turns out, they completely change how a build is played. People seem to think that I want berserker to be bad forever and get some gear diversity for the sake of gear diversity but that is not the case. I want encounters to be more interesting (rational = more interesting more fun) and I would like to see gear sets shine in some encounters but not all (rational = jack of all trades is boring to me and many others for sure). What it really comes down to is the fact that to me (and many others), one set of gear stats for ever class being optimal for every dungeon situation leads to boring gameplay. It isnt about the gear but the gameplay that goes with it. I want condition based builds to co-exist with power builds in a group. A diverse group would be great (not necessary but more INTERESTING). Another thing, I do not mind speed clearing at all because well… if im spending MY time doing something, I want it done as fast as possible because human nature and all that. I do not like the fact that dungeons can be run in 4-5 minutes. If I had my way a good boss fight would be 2-3 minutes alone not 25 seconds within the time range of the might buff. I think this is a case where we will agree to disagree because frankly, some people love having every class run the same gear set for every dungeon (oh and everyone has one build to choose from) while others would like to see something more engaging than stack and burn.
