Raising unavoidable damage making zerker gear not even viable is a horrible idea. All I’m saying is there should be a time and a place for everything. I’m sick of zerker being the best in every time and place (in regards to the pve community anyway)
Why? What is wrong with one kind of gear being the best? How does it make the game boring for you? Would the game still be boring with Sinister, Assassin, and Zerker gear the best? Because that’s happening soon enough..
Would a holy trinity make you happy? Because then tanky and healy gear would have big value in PvE. I’d even be cool with that. But just hoping that some how magically zerker gear won’t be good in PVE situations and that this would make the game better..
That’s just odd and irrational. If you want to fix something – first you have to explain why something is broken..
Ok, a few things, I don’t want ANY gear to be best in ALL situations. I do NOT want the holy trinity. I do NOT want berserker gear to be bad. I want it to be good, hell, even best in SOME situations, but not all. Its not even the fact that it’s the best gear for ALL dungeons but the fact it’s best for ALL dungeons AND ALL classes. And a final note, the game isn’t boring to me due to one gear set being best. What I don’t like is how the great gw2 community has turned into a wannabe meta cesspool that provides a toxic environment to anyone with a different opinion. I want the gear link crap and that mindset to be destroyed and burned.
See thats the problem, other builds/armor sets are viable. Situations need to occur where zerker is not optimal. They shouldnt change the gear, they should do something to make people want another set for a certain situation. Hopefully by doing this people will say oh great youre running berseker gear! And then see someone running sinister and say great, we will be able to make great use of that in this encounter. Right now one set is optimal in every situation. It isnt the gears fault, its the fault of the situation that mandates berserker gear for optimal performance.
Why? What good does having defensive sets necessary do for the game? As I explained earlier the obvious way to do that is to raise unavoidable white damage such that Zerker is not viable for that encounter…
Tell me how that solution makes the game better? Yeah you have to switch into another set of gear. Once you do the – game will play more or less the same. Everyone good will just wear the minimum level defensive gear – just like they do now.
Arenanet needs to improve things like stacking and fields and support roles etc – not worrying about achieving ‘gear’ balance.
Raising unavoidable damage making zerker gear not even viable is a horrible idea. All I’m saying is there should be a time and a place for everything. I’m sick of zerker being the best in every time and place (in regards to the pve community anyway)
All builds and armor sets should be always viable in all cases and should be the most optimal in many cases.
I think you’re under valuing what’s being said and boiling it down to an everyone gets a trophy scenario. Imagine this, what if there were a boss that while not immune to physical damage was less damaged by it than conditions. Let’s say this boss summoned adds from the corners of the room. As the adds approach the boss they grow in size. When killed they explode dealing group wide damage based on how large they were allowed to grow. Now lets say that if someone is not in range of the boss it will pulse aoe damage to everyone in the group. This is a pretty simple encounter for the sake of example but let’s think about it. If you stack on the boss and zerg it down the adds will swell up and wipe the group. If you stack up on the adds the boss will wipe the group. The best way to deal with it would be to have a couple people assigned to handling the add problem preferably with high burst. Conditions could do the job but not as effectively as a power build. Now the people on the boss could be a power build and as long as the adds are being handled you could still beat the fight but conditions would shine. Two damage types, two sets of gear, two optimal set ups. This is just one example and it’s around damage, maybe there are other encounters that could encorporate the various other options in this game.
I’m for more options/ player choice.
I do not want them to kill the zerker, I want them to make more builds/armour sets/play styles viable. I hope Anet can open the game up and have more meaningful tactics than just stack in the corner and blast. Please note, I’m not saying speed runs are bad or lack required skills – some of the stuff players can do is truly amazing. However I would just like more diversity and better rewards. OMG better rewards!!

Thats not what we want either, its the idea that there has to be something annoying enough to not take part in it and just choose what you want to play.
Except you can already do that. At this point zerker saves minutes over other gear choices and in most pugs those zerker players are probably not playing optimally to begin with, if they ever make content annoying enough to not take zerker then it should be because it is difficult, but not impossible to effectivley evade that attacks with active defenses. If there is a ever a dungeon that requires you to have x vitality and y of toughness then the game has failed in its original design intent. And you will see lfg like. Zerker and must have x vitality and y toughness or kick.
There is no gear that is not viable, only people that want defensive gear to perform to the same level as pure damage gear in a game built around using active defense. That is something that shouldn’t happen. I never post for zerker in my dungeons, but I do expect communication and knowledge of your class, I run dungeons every day with no stat requirements and as long as people communicate the runs are just as successful if not more so than a lot of zerker parties I have joined in the past.
I usually post for 80s, but in the past I have had groups of knowledgeable players that were minimum dungeon level go faster than some zerker groups I’ve joined. Stats only matter for speed, good zerker groups save minutes and they should, but you can play in anything you want and not be far behind or even come out ahead of the a average zerker pug.
Everything you said is correct and thats the kind of player I wish more people were. What id like to see is what ever is causing the wave of “zerker or kick” to be broken down and destroyed like an unused cardboard box….
It’s a common mistake.
Not a need of different gears to “complete”, but a need of different gears to “fastest-ly complete”.Exemple !
First boss is normal, promoting zerk gear.
Second boss have a mechanism where someone with high survivability can activate mechanism to fasten the fight.
Third boss have a special weaknesses against conditions
Fourth boss steal healing from players, for a tactical fight
Fifth boss release regular radiation waves, making Regeneration, Protection, and Retaliation very useful.Lol, I am just imagining the new LFG posts. Must have zerker, sinister, nomad, apothecary. Link gear or kick.
+1. This. You need to look at this change from a gameplay perspective – not a ‘satisfy some random requirement’ perspective. Does the game actually play better if you need to use nomad to clear part of a dungeon? Is switching armor in between fights compelling game play? Hell no.
Lucky for us I believe the current developers get this – even if some players do not. Nothing wrong with making say sinister gear very strong in dungeons – because that will encourage active combat just as well as Zerker gear.
Thats not what we want either, its the idea that there has to be something annoying enough to not take part in it and just choose what you want to play.
My little faith that I have for the toxic “meta” community would go right out the window if that happened. Speed clears are cool but having different gear be optimal in different situations is a good thing. The speed clearer would need multiple sets (which shouldn’t be a problem for them) but it would hopefully lead to picking what gear and playstyle you actually want to use.
We can nerf the “one build and gear for everything” Meta by splitting it so there have different Meta : a whole different Meta for each part of the content. AKA “one build and gear for each type of dungeon/boss/event/pvp/wvw”.
Then people will stop caring of the Meta because of the “pain” to stick at it.
Do you realize how big a pain in the kitten that would be if they made every boss/dungeon need different gear i would just leave the game.
That’s the point, the thought being if it’s too much of a pain to be optimized for every dungeon then you would theoretically pick the gear and playstyle you like and just let your skills get you through the dungeon.
If I’m honest that seems like a bunch of baseless guessing. I mean, for necros, you will be able to have 100% critical chance on a target with 25 vul while your in reapershroud with zero precision. I’m sure there’s a lot that will go into what the “new meta” will be. Who knows, necro might have a completely different set of gear that is optimal for them while for example warriors may continue to be optimal with berserkers.

You all act like you are being asked to complete maps 100% to get your skills back…. how much time does it take to run up to a symbol on the map, comuning with that place of power, and going to the next? Or maybe you have to god forbid fight something that doesn’t have another player behind it. Seriously…. yes you are losing progression, sorry…. suck it up butter cup and just do the easily done “challenges”.
65 skill challenges
8 professions currently available
That’s 520 skill challenges
The entire world map only has 189 skill challenges.Go do every skill point. Now do it again. Now do 3/4 of them again. Does that seem so trivial to you? Just to get back to where we are right now?
I have 7 and only one has 100% map completion…. the rest have below 30% so I fully understand what I need to do to get all of my skills. The point remains, its stupid easy to get 65, you dont need all of those characters at 100% day one, and you can do them one at a time.

It would be hard to buff conditions to the point that they do as much damage as direct damage.
If you’ve ever run the numbers you would realize how pathetically unbalanced it was before.
I won’t redo the calculations here, but even when you were NOT effected by the condition cap, direct damage builds did ~10-12k dps, with no build up time, while condition users did an average of 3-5k dps with a slow build up.
They would need to more than double condition damage for it to be on the same level as direct damage, and it would still only be viable in long fights.
You say 10-12k dps but I think you are confusing dps with burst. You won’t be doing 12k dps over the course of a fight. Those are just perfect situation simulation numbers.
Those are top tier meta theoretical sustained dps numbers for both direct and condition damage builds.
So i’m not sure what the issue is. I compared them equally, it is just until now conditions were just that much worse. Note that these are “pure” condition builds, not any sort of condition/power hybrid builds.
They arent, they are top tier meta theoretical numbers based on 25 second burst in a perfect situation. The people thinking they are running zerker gear and always doing 12k per second sustained are delusional.
my ele can easily hit 9k sustained with 12k short bursts on IB CD. It of course requires 25 stacks vuln, and 25 stacks might. But for an organized group that isn’t actually that hard to achieve. Most bosses also die within 25 seconds at those numbers, so it is the entire duration for the fight.
ok /15chars

While I appreciate everyone’s opinion on the subject(I also appreciate some people’s attitudes more than others)the main draw for me with this game was having multiple ways to do things. I could level with exploration. Or with dungeons. Or with open world events. Or other ways. Taking away the ability to play the game how I want is really limiting. I spent a really good chunk of time doing this. I think my opinion is valid that this chunk of time I spent doing what I did to earn skill point scrolls shouldn’t be brushed aside.
We should be able to choose if we want to keep the skill point scrolls we earned previously instead of them automatically being converted. I don’t think having options like that is too much to ask for.
In the event they let you keep them and give you the choice to convert them to MF materials what would you do with them instead of convert them? You must understand that they of course would not allow you to use them to unlock skills as that is what hero points will do. So what would you use them for?

No an kin cement on it yet as far as I’m aware but I’m very curious. Kind of in a state of limbo at the moment
After seeing the dragonhunter and being that surprised I bet the warrior spec will be the “Swashbuckler” an off hand pistol main hand sword spec themed around being a pirate. Lol
Well yea, I didnt mean all the elite specs including the ones that havent been announced. I meant to ask if the three elite specs that have already been shown will be available to test. Just the Reaper, Dragonhunter, and Chronomancer.
Are the elite specs going to be available to test in the upcoming beta for invitees? It said the old 8 professions would be available but made no note of the elites being available or not.
Skrittcalibur sounds super fun and like something I could go for. The precursor collection makes a lot of sense for what it would be. Good work
I really hope the new precursor collection system will be very specific and themed to the legendary we are going after. For example, say that afterlife sword I thought of, what if we needed to practice harvesting souls. So say the first collection would give lore information on soul harvesting then the 2nd collection would have you going around the world attempting to collect souls, maybe if you fail you have to fight the soul that you just tried to steal, think ac ghosts. Anyway, you guys get the idea. I’d just love to see some very relavent precursors and I hope the legendary process really immerses you into what the legendary is all about. I know about the moot collection they mentioned which sounded pretty cool and I’m pretty excited for it.
That’s wonderful looking
Very cool ideas! I would also like to see some of the joke legendaries have an alternative like the pistols. Im digging that pistol idea, I almost imagine it as a small asuran looking pistol and when you pull it out it unfolds like a transformer revealing an unusally large untable looking pistol.
Really good concept…except it is too specific to one class. I would also add screams to the souls tho for added horror.
Not sure about my own legendary. Maybe a bow formed from the bodies of writhing snakes like Kraitkin (one of my fav legendaries), where the arrows are either poison spat from the mouth of a snake, or the projectile is carried on serpentine wings.
Yea it is for sure quite specific lol However, I wouldn’t mind decking my warrior out in Arah gear and using that sword also haha
So, I was thinking today about potential legendaries and as a Necro I cant be more excited for the ability to use a greatsword. While I was sitting here super hyped I was thinking about a reaper themed greatsword. I thought it would be fun to make my own dream legendary and was curious if any of you had any fun legendary ideas.
The name would be “Afterlife”
The special effect would be blue colored souls swirling around the blade. When you killed something the same sort of blue soul would be sucked into the blade. When the blade is drawn it would have a few souls trying to escape and then they would be pulled back into the blade because… no escape. The hard part was figuring out what fun ground affect would trail behind the wielder of this blade. My idea for this would be a trail of dead and dying grass almost as if the grass died beneath your feet as you walked. Thats my idea for my dream legendary, what are yours?
I vote for “Roundup” Based on our enemies that we will be fighting
I imagine the new name will be “Roundup” given the enemies we will fight in HoT
Rewarding a random sample is in poor taste.

Introduction explaining how this is not a whiney hate post. Second line disproving the statement made in the first. Third line introducing the problems OP has with the new Fart that was shown in the blogpost.
Gross oversimplification of the proposed changes to Fart. Wild speculation of how this is going to ruin Fart. Assumptions about not being able to use Fart anymore because of proposed changes to Fart.
Threaten to never play the game anymore if Fart gets implemented, while knowing deep down inside that you will keep playing anyway.
I’m confident I love you…..

The problem with people criticizing at this point is their relative view. All anyone has to reference back to is how the current system is set up. Until you understand the final system you can’t say anything of value. This is the time to read and learn, not write and try to give feedback.
So, I know we don’t have info release available, however I can say that previous expansions to other games have cost the same as the original game but with less content. I plan on buying hot either way but I’m curious about their pricing model for expansions they used for gw1. Did the price reflect the amount of content? What do you guys forsee for a possible price?
Sounds good to me!
Hello, I used to play GW2 a few years ago when it first came out and took a break due to inactivity. I would really like to get back into the game and dungeon running but im a bit rusty so I would like to find a guild that will let me run dungeons with them and progressively pursue higher levels of content. Im on Henge of Denravi
How do you get sinister gear? Is this new? Just came back to my necro after 2 years of not playing.
Necros already have the longest chill durations btw.
That may be but that isnt a defining quality that people talk about when they think about necromancers.
I REALLY like your idea on enhancing conditions. When I think of a necromancer I dont think of bleeding. I think of diseases, a walking plague spreading it to everything in its path. Your enhanced condition idea with epidemic would make me love playing my necro even more. I hate being in a group and having my main source of damage negated because almost every class applies bleeds.
What my necro will be in a few days. Should finish farming the tokens on my warrior soon enough! =D
I know the scythe came from the mad king chests, however, is that particular skin available still or is it impossible for new necros to get this awesome staff skin?
Im not sure if it already exists and im just failing to see it. But, when I go to the trading post I would like to be able to sort the armors so I can see ONLY heavy armor when im on my warrior. If this already exists please let me know.
EDIT: also, it would be nice to be able to preview items on the trading post before we buy them. It would also be nice to click items in chat and let us preview them there. If that is an option then it isnt one working for me.

So…. I want to buy an axe lvl 47 of rare quality from the TP. Now… Not only does scrolling over the item NOT show me the stats, but the buy button is greyed out. I cant buy anything. Its either find it or not have it. Really breaking enjoyment. Any opinions? Am I doing something completely wrong?
Theres a vendor to the right when you get into the mists. Go to him and you can get all of the weapons and runes.
