So I looked around for the green story marker but its nowhere to be seen. I went to the fort where the entire thing started when I first made my beta character and then i went over to the far wall where it eventually opens to the new zone. Nothing….
Have you been in the zone with that specific beta character yet? Is there any available WP’s west of SIlverwastes, if so?
yea I have this was the character I did the first BWE on and no wps west of SW.

So, with some of my new abilities as a reaper being better sub 50% id love the option to see what % of health the enemy is at. Sometimes I will cast gravedigger when it looks like its at 50% and it will go on cool down anyway. Im not sure if its a bug or if its an issue with not hitting below 50% or not. Has this been brought up at all?
So, um. Yep. Anyone can beat this? lol.
I think what’s more telling is how much dmg burn did in 90ish hits compared to how much dmg bleed did in 88 hits….
I like enrage timers in wow because due to the UI features its clear when its going to happen and with dps meters you know what step to take to avoid it. With anet being so stubborn on their stance regarding using a UI to be more useful than showing your skills it will be much harder to combat. However I wont pass judgement until I see how they implement the system.
Some “casuals” enjoy difficult challenges too. Please stop equating “casual” to “bad” or “easy mode” for kittens sake. Many of us do not appreciate it.
Not going to happen it’s patented elitism claptrap. Typical that most people need to try and build themselves up by tearing others down and this caters to the worst of that demographic.
No, it is just fact. By definition casuals put less time into the game and thus less time to get better or to practice.
casual is a term for people that don’t want to put in the effort.
aka exploiters, cheaters, hackers, or people that just don’t care enough for it.hardcore is a term for people that put in the effort.
this would be meta gaming, insane amount of hours to specificly train aspects of the game. doing spreadsheets, figuring out the mathematical formula’s for ingame stuff. using the time to optimize strategise statistically (again most of that is done in a spreadsheet). etc.
hardcore players actually use very High amount of their free time(hours for gaming) planning their playsession instead of actually playing the game itself.most people that consider themselves hardcore got no clue what hardcore gaming is. just because they play 10 hours a day doesn’t make them a “hardcore player”.
true if you invest 10hours playing the game each day, you are more likely to be amongst the hardcore group
(since people investing vast amount of time planning game sessions etc. oftend use vast amongst of time in the game as well)
but it is no garantee and your active gaming hours isn’t what determines if you are a hardcore or casual gamer at all.No…. casual is a term for people who put in less TIME not effort.
NOPE it is not.
a good handfull of Pro gamers actually turned pro after only a few months of gaming.
by your difinition these players would be casuals because they haven’t put in enough time yet.on the other hand you have players using 10 hours a day on a game, yet they do not know how to do a good build, how to play the mechanics of the game, or how to even home/train your skills within a particular aspect of the game.
but you would call these players hardcore players?time have NOTHING to do with weather or not you are a casual or hardcore player.
neither does RL skills in that particular game.
what makes you hardcore is the effort you invest in the game, outside the game, meaning the effort you put into arquiring knowledge beyound the normal play session.but as said the VAST majority of casual gamers see’s themselve as hardcore gamers^^
the statement “i am hardcore because i play a lot” is a statement casuals use because they can’t accept that they are just another casual having fun in the game, and not part of the hardcore which actually invest huge amount of effort into understanding everything about the game, optimizing it and themselves to become the best they could in it.
Youre arguing in circles. Hardcore =/= good and casual =/= bad. Guess what… those pro gamers who dont put much time into their games are VERY GOOD casuals… skill means nothing when it comes to hard core and casual but honestly. Im dont talking to you about it because as a casual, I have more important things to do in order to avoid the inevitable “would you like fries with that” job. Enjoy your gaming.

No…. casual is a term for people who put in less TIME not effort. When I play with my 2-3 hours I get a day (if im very lucky) I am optimizing everything I can to make my character better to be the best it can be. I hate the feeling that I could be better and that theres something I am unware of that im not taking advantage of. Granted, my lack of time isnt due to lack of interest, im just about to graduate and my classes are really requiring most of my time.

Ahh but then you have players who were hardcore that play less but who are exceptional at the game in the short time they have to play it.
I dont want to go into specifics but I will say when I read “When bosses don’t die in 5 seconds, survivability and sustainability actually becomes a thing. Necros are in a fantastic place atm for raiding.”, the blood starting rushing…..
Good way or bad way? B
Oh a very good way, lets just say if I were in class reading it I would prefer to not be called up to the front of the room.

An enrage timer is all about balance. If you make tankyness an optimal option for a Raid and say they make supporty builds meta there would be no incentive to go zerker. Getting rid of the all zerker meta is important but making them obsolete is bad too because instead of offering diversity it just switches from one pure meta to another to another pure meta. This is going to be great for diversity IF THEY DO IT CORRECTLY lol.
I really hope the raids are a lot like wow raids in that the speed at which you clear it is not inportant but the important part is actually clearing it.
Why not both? I remembered Crash Bandicoot 3 for some reason. There were speed trials, and the better you did the higher your score would be, awarding a platinum relic. Oh the feelings…
Sure, toss a leaderboard in there or something for speed runners. Heck, maybe even a LA plaque to commemorate world first clears.
Oh yea I’m all for a race for the kill sort of race. What I don’t want is hey we did the raid in 15 minutes kind of thing. I want a “we got the world’s top 50th kill on a specific boss” kind of race.
I really hope the raids are a lot like wow raids in that the speed at which you clear it is not inportant but the important part is actually clearing it.
I was using strength runes on my soldier reaper and it was doing quite well. However, I think ill change to valk armor and keep strength runes.
Buh bye zerker raiding meta… you wont be missed xD
You missed the enrage timer confirmation in the same blog post.
Oh I didn’t miss that part. I like the fact zerker has its place and role to fill. But all the roles aren’t the same using the same gear. So the meta 100% zerker all the time mentality can die in a fire where raids are concerned.
In a game like Guild Wars 2, the sky is the limit. They can reverse what enrages the bosses, instead of relying only on time. They can spice up requirements for sub-battles taking into account several factors related to stats and effective combat mechanics (healing, boon generation, amount of evades, distance, etc).
A raid does not HAVE to rely on most damage to be successfully interesting and compelling for diehard hardcore gamers. ANet knows better than this I’m sure.
For all of which I am extremely greatful

This x1000. You can still be casual and good at the game. The two are not mutually exclusive.
I’ll still be casual, but also enjoying the raid content. And if I can’t find the time to commit to it, then I won’t feel entitled to the rewards. Let people have their shiny trophies and achievements for actual achievements. The game has so few of them.
Let me echo that sentiment.
yea I plan on being a casual rocking legendary armor goml
it will actually be pretty funny to have the same gear as the people who spend 12 hours a day on the game. Having killed the same bosses, equipping the same legendaries, etc. as a casual will be funny. When people assume im super hard core it will be fun to say that im actually pretty bad at this game but the content is so easy its hard NOT to have this legendary gear. Those people will have a hard time sleeping at night lol
(edited by Zalavaaris.5329)
I’m a casual as far as time goes with school but you can bet I’ll be in Those raids the first day I can. Lol I almost think casuals need to play at a higher level just due to the lack of time. If we go into raids and aren’t organized it’ll be a huge waste of the limited time we have. Let’s all get in there and make those raid bosses cry!
I never said AP was a good tool for judging player quality, I said that it was the best option currently available. There is a real difference. If you want AP requirements squashed then stop fighting people for wanting actual useful tools of requirement.
No AP is not the best option. It isnt an option because there are too many variables to have that number mean ANYTHING. People check for gear and build as it is so why do both? And if you arent checking for gear and build why AP? Gear means much more than AP.
Zalavaaris you need to take a chill pill. The hypocrisy in your statement is extremely disturbing. It is okay for you to join somebodies dungeon run and completely ruin their day by being bad and fumbling around and not knowing what is going on and not wanting to improve ever. But the minute they want to play how they want then they are elitist. What a joke.
But…. im not bad at this game… I have had a lot of experience with multiple aspects of this game and I know how to perform. My POINT is that if you just look at AP you dont know who is bad and fumbling. At LEAST do a trash pull and a boss pull and see what these people do. If they are as bad as you think they were from the get go then by all means, kick them out. I know I kick out bad players in my groups because they are wasting my time but I certainly give them a benefit of the doubt as to their skill level with low AP (as I also have low AP). What I cant stand is how stained this community has become from its original intention. But hey, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. It was nice while it lasted anet.
There really is nothing wrong with the community. Setting requirements is not bad. The only bad apples of this community are the ones who join peoples parties when they don’t fit their requirements and the ones who join parties and then try to force unadvertised requirements on them. Which is a very small minority of players.
I agree that people disrepecting the LFG is a problem from both sides of the spectrum. And setting requirements for linking gear when advertised for it makes sense because it is in direct relation to how the dungeon will play out. AP means nothing and should be abandoned as a means for requirement.

I’ve had elitists compliment me on my 14k AP. I just think “lol”. And I’m an elitist myself. I’ve seen people with under 2k AP that do great and those with 21k that do nothing but use flamethrower on their engineer and take a snooze on the dungeon floor.
Back on topic, from an elitist to fellow elitists: listen to the OP it saves everyone trouble.
Like I said, it isn’t a perfect or even good system but it is the only thing we have because of anets stubbornness.
let me put this in a way you’ll understand, THEY DON’T WANT TO GIVE YOU A WAY TO BE AN kitten. The better than nothing way you have is complete crap. My AP is sub 3k know why? Because I don’t go around farming stupid things for a stupid little stat( I’ve been playing since the first BWE so it’s not a question of being bad). It’s honestly these type of people that make me question whether or not anet has succeeded in their goal to make a friendly community that has no access to tools that promote exclusion. My only hope is that the kitten stains that ruin the gw2 community fins more enjoyment in being a kitten to people in another game. And yea, i’m being hostile, nasty, and crass but I honestly don’t care. When this game first started I couldn’t wait to come across another person. It’s not the case anymore because more so than not these people are meta speed clear wannabies that stand in fire with their perfectly optimized gear and blame the 2k ap scrub for their death.
Just so you know OP, people seem to think that arena net wanted to get rid of tanks an healers and have everyone dps.n people think that the trinity is having tanks and healers. What the trinity actually is is needing those things and having only certain classes able to perform that role. Gw2 isn’t about not having a trinity it’s about bringing anyone to fill the roles needed whether that be a tanky person, a healer support, or huge dps.
Crafting should be optional, just like PvE is optional, and Spvp is optional and WvW is optional.
I play this game for WvW, and we don’t have the option for a viable means of attaining legendaries from WvW. The cost could even be something insane, like 10,00 badges of honor, 2000 of each of those 450 crafting mats. I don’t care. just as long as i don’t have to grind out crafting. Just let me EARN the legendary by playing the game in COMBAT, not by standing by a sewing kit and crafting all day.
PvE isn’t optional for a legendary, wvw isn’t optional for a legendary, open world farming isn’t optional for a legendary and neither is crafting. Unless you use your credit card and buy one. That’s your only option.
What i REALLY think needs to happen is that bosses last longer than 40 seconds. These raids should not end up a question of how FAST can we clear it but if we can clear it at all. Bosses should take 6-7 minutes for a perfect run and should NOT be burstable like current “meta” speed clears.
I really don’t see how 10 man (raids? seems a bit small for a"raid") dungeon is going to scratch anyones itch for Raids.
Raids typically are the pinnacle of coordinated group efforts where everyone has an exact role to play, and needs to play that role near perfect for the instance to go well.
This game specializes in everyone running around DPS’ing stuff. There are no set healers or agro tanks really…those some can occasionally fill that roll slightly, for a short time.
Really I get why they are doing this, just I don’t think its going to be executed in a manner that will satisfy anyone who takes a break from this game to raid in another game.
They should be piling on content that is coordinated with how this game plays. Make more epic, insane, difficult, world events, designed for masses of people to complete…make some of those even more coordinated ect.
You cant have a proper raid when you lack the trinity. Skyforge did this (little know game that came out recently) and lacks a trinity system (less so than this game) and it was just coordinated DPS targeting…as you cant really do much more than that.
UNLESS…they have special items in the raid that actually allow someone to become a tank and healer (like a healing staff on the ground and a tank shield, that bestow unique skills for whoever equips them) which would be cheesy imo
This is exactly what I’m worried about. This game has proven to be a dps only free for all where the only coordination involves stacking for buffs and stunning the mobs or timing reflects/stealth timing. When I think raiding I think of a mechanic that introduces a debuff that when cleansed takes 50% health from you but if let to expire will one shot you. It’s those kind of mechanics that if not dealt with via coordination and assigned debuff removal that will transcend what gw2 pvers think about when they think pve. That’s just one example of a true raid mechanic and there needs to be multiple of those per fight (some more harsh than others) to make this a real raiding experience.
No reason we can’t get those types of things. But as Colin said I think they want to focus less on UI watching and more on the on screen stuff. So you get an Aura (with a debuff icon just in case) that if not treated will down you on the spot (or kill?) to cleanse you need to go into an area with a caustic fog that damages you while in, make it a decent amount of damage(probably % based honestly) such that your trip in will leave you having to expend your personal heal and still come out low health, this promotes team healing, either through coordination with Ele/Engi’s standing nearby to rotate water fields for people to blast as they come out or maybe just a healing focused guardian or revenent.
The system is much broader and better than what we’ve seen with our current set of content.
Imagine this. Same debuff I suggested. In this scenario someone needs to cleanse the condition. Everyone has their own condition removal but personal skill comes into play when deciding when to cleanse it. If you are bad and cleanse your own condition when you’re at 30% health because you panic…. Guess what… you’re dead. The best way to do this (and in my dreams 2 people get the debuff at the same time) would to be to make sure the two affected players heal up as much as they can, at the same time have an ele drop water, have a necro cleanse both people of their debuffs at once and immediately stack and blast water to heal everyone up. There’s a lot of coordination in that scenario and it will shake up the dps all the time mentality. But you totally get the idea. I see more group synergy in wvw than pve. They coordinate their burst, their healing, their position (it’s not stationary), among other things. For some reason I think wvw players will excel at raids better than meta pvers at least at the start.
Only problem I see with that is how many things have innate cleansing mechanics. Especially healing effects. I mean it sounds fun, but I just worry that would require certain professions not just certain roles as certain professions.
I have my money on one of the European dungeon speed run guilds, like SC, rT, or vC or one of those to get the first win.
You are EXACTLY right. Those innate cleanse mechanics need to be thought about. It will switch up what skills and traits are good for certain boss fights. And the cleanses will still be good but the timing needs to match. That’s where the skill comes into play
Too much of this game is innate like you just said and in order for this raid to feel like a Raid it needs to be taken into consideration.I hear ya, I’m with you, my worry was that your example might leave certain professions incapable of contributing. That’s something ANet stressed and I agree with, allowing different professions to fill the different roles such as to not need an Ele or need a Warrior or whatever. Certainly though having to have the forethought to not use Healing Turret because of the innate cleanse is the type of intricacy a raid should have.
I agree, sadly the balance of these raids and how professions can contribute is their burden to bare.
I really don’t see how 10 man (raids? seems a bit small for a"raid") dungeon is going to scratch anyones itch for Raids.

I don’t know what a Raid is really. I never played WoW so can somebody explain to me what a Raid is?
It’s a pluggable instance which is obviously easier if you have a practiced group of experienced players. It usually takes multiple nights a week to finish the first time and with practice can be completed in a few hours time. It usually requires some sort of chat program to communicate for sake of organization. Usually has 8ish-10ish bosses that you can expect to wipe multiple times to. Raiding is that feeling you get when you wipe 300 times to the hardest boss in the game and have the boss at 1% health with all but 2 people dead and those 2 people take it home and the screams can be heard through the voice chat.
Yea unfortunately all of my wow raiding friends left wow when they more or less disolved 10 man heroic raiding guilds. I tried to recruit them over here as i’m an avid player of both games. Instead they went to ff14 and they said there’s so much to do that they refuse to even try the free version. The time spent away from ff14 when they could be raiding isn’t worth their hard drive space. It’s sooooo sad because raiding with gw2 combat is going to truly be a unique raiding experience. And collecting legendary precursor armor that leads to an epic journey to craft the ultimate godly looking gear is going to make it even better.

You’re not alone. That’s how I am with open world stuff too.
People keep talking like wow is a bad thing. WoW with gw2 combat and the system that allows anyone to fulfill any role would be the perfect game.
Well even if it WERE a cross wouldn’t that be something brutal? You know it’s a form of torture and execution right? Might as well have used a picture of a guillotine.
. anyone know how to get passed a girlfriend with 100k toughness and Vit??
Easy use that new shout necro’s get called “yes that dress makes your butt look big” it applies 100 stacks of vulnerability and weakness.
Well one positive thing to note about reaper is our new found ability to use twilight. However…. the real negative is that we can’t dual wield twlight….
Raids likely have longe reset period for the group to be able to run it for a week long rathet than all 5 hours in a single sitting.
Huh? Like say I am with you at monday, tuesday, wednesday and saturday in the course of a week, but can´t show up on sunday, so I get nothing?
Thats how progression raiding works. If you aren’t there for the kill you get squat.
One thing I think everyone is forgetting about why gw2 raiding would be amazing. Everyone says if you want raids go to wow but could you imagine a well designed raid with gw2 combat?!? That’s the dream. In fact I have 12 friends RIGHT NOW that would pull the trigger on their purchase of the game if it weren’t for a lack of satisfying end game. I know people will say gw2 has one and the game isn’t for them but it’s a LOT of people who claim the end game sucks. I am so excited for a gw2 combat filled raid that I can show my wow guildies. Hopefully they will come over and see what the rest of the game has to offer.
Yea… the trailer wouldn’t advertise all of these max level activities only to limit them to lvl 15. They showed wvw so that also implies that the free players will also gain access to rhat. Guys I don’t think we are looking at a trial here. This looks like full on free to play.
Not necessarily. Hype videos are always full of the exciting things in the game. They aren’t going to show the players dancing to the cows at level 2 or keeping away from the knockdown bunnies in Wayfarers. After all, if that’s not accessible on a free account and they find out that they have to buy the game to access the exciting stuff, what are they going to do? Complain they didn’t get their money’s worth.
Yea but notice their wording. They don’t say try for free. They say play for free. Play for free = free to play

I’d LOVE a 10 man hardcore raid environment. Lack of raids is what my wow friends use as a reason to refuse to play gw2 with me. I know a lot of people dislike raids because of wow but I imagine a hard 10 man raid but with the combat of gw2. That will bring a lot of other wow Raiders over. Hopefully the rest of my wow friends will join me if the content is designed well enough.
Wow…. that was a big reveal…. I bet someone at anet is feeling fairly salty at the moment.
Hardly a “big reveal.” We already knew “challenging group content” would be described on Saturday. There are only so many ways that can happen, especially since we know dungeons like we already have are out and it’s not Fractals either.
It might not be a big reveal to us because we expect certain things. However, you can bet this is a big reveal to the people who put in countless hours to develop the content. Their moment is now spoiled and everyone who looks now knows. It’s like someone taking a peek at their present early. Sure it’s what they expected it to be but they weren’t the ones to present it.

Uh…. how are wings ugly?….. look at this in all of its majesty. You put twilight in this things hands and it’s straight up fallen angel reaper deliciousness
Because it takes exceptional costume choices to make them work this well I guess. Many people just slap them on anything. Good work though.
Yea if someone had a totally decked out pink and lime green ranger then wings would look…. a bit off…

The first three had little videos that revealed a bit about it but no article I’m pretty sure. Well I think there were articles but only after the videos were up. Could be wrong though, wouldn’t be the first time.
