Maybe they are like me and aren’t great in 1v1 scenarios and therefore decide to deny people with cheesy one shot builds of a free kill. Sometimes it feels better to waypoint because I know I just made the roamer chasing me super salty.

It’s bad game design. Ranged classes are viable in other MMOs. In GW2, melee is preferred because of the short range on boons and heals. This is one of the reasons why I only do open world content where I can play whatever I want (I also prefer ranged combat and I’m anti-meta).

Its not.

In other MMO’s ranged dps always have a advantage over melee because of range and higher dps with very small advantage to being melee, whill at the same time having to avoid much more mechanic and cleaves as melee, GW2 is one of the only mmo’s in existance to be balaned melee vs ranged. Melee is high risk high reward in every type of gameplay pvp/pve/solo, the higher the risk playstyle the higher the reward given

Dont even try and say melee is safe in this game, you die all the time as melee in WvW and in random open world events where the ranged character just afk’s whill auto attacking

The games I know that have an alive and well raid scene have ranged classes that don’t have to stand in melee 100% of the time. A lot of the time they are also the top damage dealers. Perhaps gw2 could make content around ranged classes. Perhaps they had ranged mobs that could not be accessed via melee and would not run into the group. This would force groups to have an even split of dps types. Maybe a boss that has two mobs that require being killed at the same time. One is a caster up on a ledge or something and the other a big melee boss. There are plenty of possibilities.

You know what this all sounds like to me? It sounds like ranged classes need their damage buffed to make up for lost booms etc. And melee classes should receive more damage mitigation for taking the risk. Both can deal competitive damage, range won’t get the extra defense because of their natural safety and melee can get a boost in survivability. Seems like a good way to play how you want and still be a contributing group member.

Sadly, every class has ranged and melee options, which means how do you buff what?

That is certainly a problem I thought about. I really don’t want to throw my hands up and say oh well, I guess we are all melee now. There would be some systems issues that need addressing and unfortunately, until anet hire me to analyze and redesign these systems, they will need to figure it out, rhat is, if they feel it becomes a priority lol

More that it’s situational. You use it for alpha strikes against single targets, and for DPSing Champs. If you’re cleaning up packs of small mobs you switch to something more AoE.

If you’re using a staff you can use it for both of those things… I think rifle should be the same way.

I have the same problem on my thief. I usually start and overflow squad and tag up. I tell everyone to follow the main tag. It’s actually nice because you get bonus pips that way.

Something that was extremely frustrating when playing in the story demo as rifle thief was the single target dps lockdown, during stages where u had to kill 5 10+ mobs it got tedious real fast having to take em down one by one, instead of having a fancy aoe.

To be completely honest, if you thought it was tedious to take down each mob individually with the rifle then I don’t think you were doing enough damage.

I was able to just melt through mobs one by one pretty quickly and had no difficulties clearing packs. Little tip, though; use Sigil of Fire. If you’re building properly as a Deadeye you’re going to be getting crits frequently and it will proc so frequently after its icd is up that you’re going to think you’re firing explosive rounds.

I had this thought as well but decent aoe on a weapon should not have to come from a sigil.

Here’s what I know… I went into pve where dps really matters and tested deadeye. I killed things so slow with full ascended zerker gear. If there were two or three mobs I would have to run around and kite things until one finally died. Sometimes a target without mark on it would LOS the target with mark so it took even longer to kill. I put my staff back on and started wrecking everything while not being immobile. Deadeye does not need to be better than daredevil but it needs to compete and with how the damage felt in pve I don’t see how it can. Also, this is a good criticism on how the game felt to me from someone who loves the game and loves the idea of deadeye. Not "whining "

It is nowhere near as trust worthy as flipping camps. But that is really beside the point. It is the most optimal way to farm pips. However, there is still a rank requirement so you are setting yourself back if you are not also farming experience at the same time.

I think what this tells me is that a lot of people feel that the only way to attain the ticket cap in what we feel is a reasonable amount of time is to hunt for outnumbered. It cuts most of our time requirements in half. It still requires a significant time investment every week but half of what it would take without it. Now if you’re successful in finding an outnumbered map it most likely means there is an enemy zerg near by that will crush you repeatedly and any attempt at stopping them would be useless. That leaves the best option of flipping camps and avoiding a zerg while farming pips. If I got 10 pips all the time I would gladly follow a commander, defend keeps, camps, etc. I truly think the reward structure for players that don’t have the incredibly high rank is flawed.

So… I think this should be said. The back is already out. A lot of people have already made it. The recipe will not be changing under any normal circumstances. I can’t 100% say it won’t change because it’s all code and maybe they could change their mind if there were something really broken. But I wouldn’t hold my breath nor would I use it to try to use the official forums as a medium to enact change around a cosmetic back piece in a virtual world.

After doing some testing in all of the past events I found it cumbersome to have to get off my mount to change dyes, gear, etc. Is there a way to allow us to view our dyes and gear while mounted?

Telling people to rely on random rng drops is ridiculous. To give the other side of that coin, i’m maxed magic find, gain double figure ranks a day in wvw, wvw enough to diamond 6/6 both of my accounts weekly, and ive seen one ascended ring drop in the past several months. That’s all. Having to pve for a wvw legendary item or hope you are one of the lucky ones with the rng god is beyond bad design.

Well again, there is no need to pve for these. Just craft them and salvage.

You get the material 100% when salvaging ascended armor and weapons. If you haven’t gotten any to drop you can craft. There’s zero requirement to go into fractals. Hope this helps!

I think you’d need to take warbringer off. I think it’s the cheapest and easiest of the backpieces to get. I believe ad infinitum is the highest priced back but it’s possible that ascension is more.

Hey OP, I’d like to apologize for my unnecessarily antagonistic comments. I don’t agree with you but it’s no reason to be a kitten. I didn’t like your comment about pve players and thought it was alienating, hence my aggressive response. I will say that I also did not like having to purchase a commander tag. Thematically it makes a lot of sense and warbringer is the cheapest back even with the cost of the tag so I didn’t mind a little more of a gold sink.

I am extremely disappointed that it has no new skin.
It feels like achieving nothing, nothing where other people can see “heey that guy is a real PvP player”.
I just wonder why PvE players get cool stuff in doing what they love but PvP players dont.

T3 mistforged gear answers those issues. I’ll never get it myself but that’s a good status symbol for wvw. I just wish wvwers could dye the flowing wing parts of it from something other than blue.

I love GW2 and have since 2012 beta weekends. I take breaks every now and again but I have thousands of hours of entertainment in the game and it’s always there when I come back from being slightly burned out. Also, my gear is never out of date so I don’t feel like I miss much when I take breaks. It keeps me coming back

I’m super excited to play a deadeye in PoF. I’ve already made an ascended rifle for my character, but now I wanna make my second weapon, only… I don’t know what that is. Is there anyway to say with a modicum of certainty what the opimtal pve (fractal and dungeon) and wpvp alternate weapon will be? I’m thinking sword + pistol but really unsure if there’s some synergy I’m forgetting. D/D would be better dps but I’m not sure if I should prioritize that over utility. I also saw some success with short bow in PVP for the mobility. Thanks, please let me know what you would craft if you were in my shoes!

Preliminary tests show rifle DPS is pathetic to say the least. It’s lower than Unload spam.

This is not likely to improve at all because of how the initiative system works (it’s actually quite sad). Where other classes are balanced around cooldowns (also affected by alacrity) and can constantly rotate between skills, the initiative system is completely broken and a large portion of thief DPS relies on auto attacks during initiative downtime.

Rifle auto attack is pathetic. The damage modifiers in DE are not static as in DD, and are quite frankly far lower. DD gives a 27% damage modifier to staff, with a 100% uptime…while not hindering your movement capabilities.

Do not expect rifle to ever be able to compete in DPS with anything. It’s a 1 trick weapon (Death’s Judgment), which heavily drains your initiative and leaves you vulnerable if you fail, or worse…dead, thanks to reflects.

As far as open world PvE goes, casuals can rejoice as they can safely sit at 1200/1500 range and afk auto attack.

Any decent player will not be using this spec in its current implementation (unless they’re out trolling awful players in WvW) because it’s an obviously rushed, poorly implemented espec. It could have been better, but they wanted to be safe than sorry…which resulted in them being overly safe and giving us what we have in this demo.

You just said everything I’ve been thinking… it’s so disappointing and literally makes me sad. I was so excited to play rhis spec and use a rifle in raids as a ranged dps. There are just too many downsides and not enough pay off for even viability. I didn’t care if it was optimal but I was hoping for competetive. Right now if I want to raid I can do so with staff or condo (maybe not in the super hardcore teams but it works well for me). I REALLY wanted another spec to play at range with competency.

Needs to have increased initiative cost based on your malice. It’s too strong, 12k damage and also spammable.

There’s a giant orange line that says dodge now…. If you die to this ability I don’t know what to say.

That T3 chest piece makes PVE players DROOOOOL.

I don’t know a out drool but it’s pretty sweet and suits the game mode well. It reminds me of tyrael from diablo so I love that part. I still like my raid legendary armor more but my opinion can’t be trusted as I love the medium set the best lol

Honestly, I think what may help is guaranteeing a crit on Death’s Judgement. We will be immobile, it costs a lot of initiative, AND it has a giant tell on it. I think this will help a lot.

The rifle seems a little too slow, but its strong in certain situations.
It takes a while to get used to having no gap closer like steal though.

The lack of mobility hurts in wvw, without daredevil, although it seems to synergize pretty well with SA.

I get it but… its a sniper! either you’re melee and mobile or sniper and siting duck, you cant have the best of both worlds.

That philosophy makes perfect sense in a world where deadeye does more damage. At the moment Daredevil does more damage and still is super tanky when they take the healing trait.

I personally feel that the trade off for being immobile is not enough. I kneel and instead of feeling like a killing machine that might be in a bad spot and having to plan my movements, I feel like I need to stay standing because the damage increase isn’t super worth it and the one big attack while kneeling is incredibly easy to dodge due to a big “you’re going to die” orange line telling the world to dodge. However, even when I am not kneeling and I feel somewhat useful, my damage is garbage. I would say I would like to see the following:

*Increase standing range to 1500 with lower damage (range consistancy is important imo)

*Increase rate of gaining malice (feels way too slow to take advantage of before mark expires)

*Lower the tell on our big rifle 4 ability

*Make the mark an instant ability (the cast time feels really bad)

*Overall, I feel we need more damage coming from somewhere to make the trade off worth it. Right now it feels like putting away the rifle and going back to staff Daredevil is the smartest move. Otherwise, it feels like I am crippling myself on purpose.

I’ve already been waiting for an eternity to use that kitten legendary since both engi and warrior have no hope with it and I’m skeptical that this spec will make decent use of it.

I crafted predator specifically for Deadeye, and I will FIND a way to make decent use of it.

Overall though, I think DE will do well.

Same, it might not be my end all be all choice but I don’t think it’s supposed to be. I’ll switch it up as I see fit. Not like I can never go daredevil again.

the recent change to amounts per score have made it possible though as with old ones I’d have no hope to achieve diamond like ever.

Anet recently doubled the amount of tickets everyone can achieve in a week along with adding more pips for placement, why the OP feels the need to now squeeze one more pip out of them because he has not reached Diamond legend is pushing his luck imo.

As one of the supposed 23, I feel that being rewarded with an extra pip over players who can be 3k+ ranks lower than me is fair. Considering this is basically the only real benefit I get at rank 10k, I would happily give up my 1 pip advantage for something more meaningful, like a rank finisher or a title tho.

I would love for you to get a title and special mount skin + a bunch of other cool stuff. I would also like you to get more pips. But I as a 174 ranked player, I would like to earn at least 10 pips per tick without having to hunt outnumbered and never run with a group. I am not for high ranked players getting less, I think EVERYONE should get more so I don’t have to choose between my wife, life, job, sleep, and GW2 rewards. (not saying I want it easy, but surly 15 hours a week vs 30 is fair as that is a lot of effort)

Give everyone minimum of like 8 and just add 5 to every other tier. I don’t mind if 10k ranked players are getting 30 per minute. Idgaf what I can’t STAND is how little you get at low rank. 30ish hrs a week to cap without outnumbered is insane.

Not everyone is supposed to max out Diamond every week, only dedicated ones should. Once you get your head wrapped around the fact that it’s not supposed to be easy, it’ll fit the picture much better

Agree to disagree. I don’t believe that 30 hours a week is considered not easy. To me that’s considered absolutely insane. Anyone in my opinion should be able to max diamond in 15 hours max. And yes, this means I feel anyone shoukd be able to max tickets with a few hours a night. You won’t agree with me and I won’t agree with you but I hope anet sees my opinion and that’s all I can hope for.

well except it is not legendary skin but one of available ascended skins….

It’s on par with the raid legendaries. What you have with the wvw armor is choice. You know how many raiders would kill to get the look without putting in the time to get insights? Hardcore wvw players have the option to only get t2 armor, get t2 and turn it legendary, only get t3, and to get t3 and make it legendary. So many more options. Besides, this mode isn’t about rewards, it’s about the love of the game.

When the t3 came out a mass of wvw exclusive players said this armor skin is supposed to be the most prestigious skin available. Also, this was supposed to only be available to long time wvw vets. This sounds like exactly what raid legendary armor is. The t3 also has a unique and flashy effect signifying it’s prestige. This is the legendary effect for the wvw legendary armor. No other skin is needed. It’s super cool and worthy of a legendary title.

I had to specify wvw exclusive players because I am a wvwer myself (it’s a lot of fun turns out and the rewards are cool). I just don’t exclusive play wvw nor do I exclusively raid. I can for sure say I don’t do structured PvP though lol

So what I’m getting is that you guys have way more options. The only way to get the pve legendary armor skins is to make the legendary. And we HAVE to use one set of precursor armor. You can choose which armor to make legendary or you can go for the skins without the legendary effect or you can do both! More options is a gift.

Wrong! The old assets are useless as GW2 is a lot more detailed than GW1. They would have to rebuild everything. They probably couldn’t even use the old artworks as these might lack the necessary detail that GW2 demands.

Then there are different races and other character customizations in the game. The devs have to design multiple sets of armor and deal with clipping issues.

well it’s not like we do not already have few sets pulled straight out of gw1 in the gemstore already…. [first two to come to mind, primeval armor, krytan armor]

WvW legendaries as it stands for now does not have their “own” skin – they retain the skin from the precursor armor. And those gifts are really pricey stuff ^-^

The t3 armor has a very unique effect that rivals normal legendary armor. Now you don’t have to use it but that’s a perk to wvw players. You don’t need to get that armor to get legendary armor but it’s an option! But if you want the legendary look you need to get the t3 skins. That’s the unique skin.

They really need to separate the unid gear my rarity like a poster above mentioned. That would make life more convenient and not as risky.
