I want to see a naked kill of grawl shaman 80 by Wethospu, Dub, Haviz, Sanderinoa and Emanuel or Durend
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Booh ranged booh!
Also isn’t the ele running EA?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I do not want to grind AR.
I want to be challenged and be rewarded for my skills.
How is this so hard to understand ????
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
There was an endgame: playing fotm 70+, but they are taking this away from us.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
We did not need any AR to complete any fractal apart from Jade Maw until now.
If they make it so that AR become compulsory then Fotm becomes a grind fest.
An other grind fest.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I know tons of people who got to fractal level 80 without using a single glitch.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I have a feeling I should buy as many +5 infusions as I can before the patch is released …
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Comrade !!
I completely agree with you
I would like to add a few names to the “list”: Sanderinoa, Lorek and Leman, I have had a really good time playing with you guys!
I sent you an invite for [Madz], we have recently doubled our guild members … yes yes
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
They are extremely confusing about what will happen at the next release but apparently they will hard cap it (not even bypassable) at 50 (becoming doable). They said they would then add levels in the future.
So yes they are basically adding some rewards but taking away 30 levels of fun. Levels 70+ were the fun of the game for me, and many others.
I feel robbed.
Again.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
The fun of the game was in fractal 70+. If they hard cap it again to 50 they are basically taking 30 levels of fun content away from us…
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I will update the build section after the 10/12 patch. I will add links to build calculator websites.
@Jeydra.4386
I could really write for hours about why I prefer D/F to any other set up. But in the end it comes down mostly to what type of content I play: I do many kinds of dungeons and high level fractals, in groups that are not necessarily “optimal” or perfectly organized. However I play with people who know how to adapt and best respond to any kind of situations. About the weapons:
- Staff: strong damage potential in fire, but requires the target to be immobile and is dependent on party buffs. Cannot do anything else but damage, or at a very high cost. Probably good for speedruns or when you desperately need the range, so not really for what I play.
- Scepter: by itself this weapon does very little damage, but it is still an option because it allows you to use the focus. I love the focus.
- Off-hand Daggers: bad. The extra heal is weak, the control is weak, the mobility is weak, the damage is weak, might stacking possibilities are not as great as with the focus. Only ring of flames attacks me, but I can easily do without.
- Focus: O amore mio It is the best weapon for might stacking (so fury sharing with persisting flames), it has many crucial defensive abilities for yourself (better avoid damage than healing it) or for the group which makes it staple for advanced PvE. This is my value added.
- Main-hand daggers: much better sustained damage than scepter and allows you to use the focus.
My set up may not be the best for speed runs, scepter burst may be more efficient, but with wall-burningspeed and FGS this is not an issue for me.
Also D/F is fun to play.
That being said this is really a matter of personal choice, and it depends on your play style. I still use all weapons and I expect that after 10/12 patch my build will be even better suited to switch between weapons.
@allire.3984
You are welcome It is hard to say what utilities you should use because it depends on what kind of PvE you do and with who. For most world-PvE content I use a good amount of glyphs (harmony + power or storm), signet of fire and usually lightning flash or arcane shield. Try them all!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
You guys are using the skill wrong … zomg … isn’t it obvious they have extensively tested this skill before changing it? They thoroughly considered balance, ease of use, fluidity etc. So of course they thought about underwater combat! I mean they have focused on this side of the game so much since the start, they know what they are doing!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Give elemental attunement boons on swap to self naturally, make the trait give these boons to nearby allies. Tadam!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Good question indeed! There is no short answer to this. I am on a trip at the moment so I will explain my choices only a bit later.
Anyway thank you for asking. Before rewriting my thread I asked the community if there were aspects of my take of this class I should develop. This is because the picture is so clear in my mind that I may neglect to explain the reasoning behind my choices. Discussions are a good way to expose the thought processes involved. So if there is anything you would like clarified or if you disagree with something please do not hesitate to participate.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
You mean that he is now a malicious sith lord?
Good
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Atse do you even fotm?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Just don’t use staff
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
This is something I don’t understand.
Why did Anet intentionally make it so she only uses her ranged attack when there’s someone in range?
If you look at mobs that have, and only attack with, a bow. They don’t start meleeing you when you’re up in their face. They continue to shoot arrows or bullets at you.
Why? Because that’s how they’re programmed. If Anet wanted the Spider Queen Boss to use her ranged attack on people who are in melee range, then they would have coded her that way.
Taking that into consideration. It’s not an exploit, but a mechanic of the boss, and it’s intended.
/thread
That’s logic.
BURN THE WITCH!
Not trying to defend the counterpoint, but with this kind of logic we can conclude that the myriad of exploits in arah are intended, that the door exploit in CE is intended, etc.
There is a difference between avoiding an attack and preventing an attack.
My decision rule is role-play plausibility: is it plausible that a creature would decide not to use one if its ability based on enemy range? My answer is yes. Is it plausible that enemies would decide to pack-up and follow their foes into corridors not large enough for their bodies? Nope.
Then comes the issue of feasibility, but that is an other problem.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
@Keys
That’s the problem actually: it is not easy to make a simple model that allows for attunement swapping mid-cast. I think the best I can do is to enable the user to manually adjust the attunement in which the spells are cast, in addition to an underlying automatic system.
@Haviz
The trait points allocation won’t change (30/30/10/0/0 for max damage, 30/30/0/10/0 for LH ability like Keys does, 30/30/0/0/10 for Renewing stamina like you and I use) but we will change a few trait choices:
- pyromancer’s alacrity will become desirable due to the changes to arcana and the importance of burning speed. The idea is to reduce the complete optimal rotation cycle time. I will expand on this later.
- the fire adept choice will be freed for adaptability: +25% burn duration, conjurer, internal fire or burning precision. Adaptability is something I really appreciate.
Edit: on a side note, if burning speed could trade a bit of its range for an evade factor I would be so happy

How about the only build that is both potent and truly feels like playing an elementalist: D/F ?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
The real question is: can a dolyak solo GL further than p2 ?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I am experimenting with how the changes expected for the 10th of December will affect us. I seems the buffs to the fire trait line will be quite noticeable for us. I will develop on this when we have more information
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Best strat to run as an elem: stay 2 feet behind the first warrior, use your second hand to pat yourself on the head for being so clever
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Also Zephyr was one of my favorite releases. From what I understand Zephyr and Nightmare were both designed by the same team. Congratulation and many thanks to them!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I am usually quite critical about LS releases, but this one blew my mind.
I really enjoyed playing solo in most of the tower, and teaming up was also appreciated against harder bosses.
The instances were a blast.
I loved all of the art work.
The mob skills were very well designed ! It was really interesting to learn to fight each type of enemy and train to “perfect” them in solo.
Thanks!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
The group challenge has been stuck for a while now. I think it is time to refresh it a little bit.
I would like the community to give me suggestions of fun, engaging and creative challenges to replace the current challenge. I will then choose one of them for a new group challenge start.
Emanuel.9781 remains the challenge master. His challenge, “Embracing the cold” will come back at a later date.
Thanks
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Or you could just join one of the free runs provided by Dub
I can’t believe the community says people like him are elitists, he is mother Theresa!

Fire aura suggestion:
Same, but with an additional effect.
Effect: for the duration of the aura, 20% of all direct damage received is “stored” and at the end of the duration the aura explodes, dealing this damage in an AoE around the player.

For the past week I have experienced this bug in PvE again:
- If I go down while mashing my Swirling Winds key, the spell will trigger when I get back up.
- Same thing for Burning Retreat
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Thanks for answering.
I still can not understand why someone would want to pick an alacrity trait, unless by default, since it buffs 25% of our skills at best (no conjures).
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Is anyone really using alacrity traits?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Good guide!
Can we use just “A” for flame axe? We have only one axe and FA is usually used for fresh air.
How about taking persisting flames to be able to combo might with A2 (axe skill 2) on cooldown? Without it you will have times when there won’t be a fire field available while A2 will be available. Also fury for the group is more valuable than 10 might for one player. Then you can take piercing shards in water and camp in that attunement to deal more damage.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Best tool for mobility: Lightning Hammer
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
And of course, embrace the casualness.
I agree, this is what is killing my game.
It is catering to the average-ists. I see this on the forums (collaborative development), I see this in the content released (LS) and in the devs comments (apart from Tyler Chapman who can win 1v1 versus anyone of us folks).
What gives me the spleen is that there is no culture of excellence here.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
“What they lack in physical toughness, they make up in versatility and the ability to inflict massive damage in a single attack.”
We couldn’t get any closer to that.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Haha thank you all for your comments!
I am not going to let you down. You guys put some warmth in my stone-cold asuran heart. I am going to be less active for a while and I will try to get out of my accepted routine like you suggested. I will be around
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
also it is telegraphed as much as a marvel movie trailers tells you that the good guy wins in the end.
Also after the dodge you can proceed to rip that ele apart with the sheer power of your auto attacks: it’s not like he can do anything for the next 16 seconds.
30% boost is nothing.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
See elem swap from fire to water to air? one dodge. K thx bye.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Zely , you could try to roll another profession to see what’s with dem . Warrior is alot of fun . Adrenaline Surging !
But I don’t have the motivation to level-up anything …
It takes like half an hour to learn how to play warrior in PvE, yet I would have to play through 60 levels of content I have already done.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Oh man I am so kittening tired of seeing people say Ele is bad. The class is not bad, you’re bad.
Yes I know I am so terrible
After 14 months of playing almost everyday and theorycrafting I still don’t understand my class, it is such a hard life!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
All my close friends have left the game after one month of playing. I was the most hopeful so I stayed, I had fun for a while, but now it’s getting really difficult.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I was going to make a big message explaining how I am disappointed and loosing interest in this game, but I don’t even have the motivation for this.
I do not have the will to connect for more than an hour anymore. I want to play ele, but the class is not delivering, and dev comments on its future frighten me. I want to play fractals but it is very hard to find a group with like-minded individuals. I want to do the Ascension Challenges but it is even harder to find people interested. I want to do dungeon runs, but I hate playing just for the rewards, so the amount of mechanics abuse disgust me. I used to want to train to get better, but now I am wondering what for? The top players I yearned to join seem to have all lost interest in the game. And no, destroying the same spore thing 25 times to get a text line telling me I am good does not amuse me.
I am posting in this sub-forum because this is where I can meet people sharing my mentality. This game could be so great, and waiting for it do achieve what it could be is a bitter hope. How are you coping with your frustration?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
snip
This is definitely the direction in which I would like the devs to make the ele evolve.
Fresh air was a very good move. It allowed eles to be able to use their class mechanics in PvE instead of a heretic LH build.
I think there is something to be done with alacrity traits: these traits could reduce the attunement recharge by 25% (13->10) or more, and arcana points could reduce our spells’cooldowns globally. This is just an idea
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Pardon my fervor again Tyler, but I highly doubt you have people in your team doing PvE outside of world bosses.
This is a feeling that have grown in me for quite some time now. I have seen PvE dev streams and dev comments, it simply does not click.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Yes I am being emotional and I apologize for this. This is all because I play mostly PvE and I can see quite clearly the state of the ele at the moment: it is not really bright. We have some builds that are incredibly boring, bypassing our class mechanics, and other builds that are interesting but they hardly deliver.
I have trust in your ability to balance classes. I can understand how difficult this is.
My mood only comes from the fact that I love this class. I am fascinated by its potential. Therefore I can easily commit crimes of passion
You really need to look at our most lacking traits:
- all alacrity traits – please give me the metrics: is anyone really using those?
- arcane precision
- Vigorous Scepter/Blasting Staff/Windborne Dagger should be combined as one, and include something for focus. Then you can introduce two new traits
- sunspot makes no sense since all fire attunement spells are at range on all weapons. It needs a bit more range or something like: your next attack inflicts additional fire damage
- conjurer is boring and it does not promote the use of our class mechanics (conjures need more attention, much more, despite your last awesome patch – no sarcasm)
- one with fire, flame barrier …
-zephyr’s speed
-zephyr’s focus, obsidian focus – we have like two channeling spells per weapon …
- arcane energy – metrics again please: has anyone ever slotted this trait for more than 2 minutes since release?
As for lingering elements I can understand your concerns about making this trait as awesome as we describe in this thread. But you should really consider this kind of changes: they make sense, they are fun, and they bring diversity.
Finally, I sincerely thank the Anet team for being so open and responsive. What you are dong as a company is ground-breaking. I highly respect you for this.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Evasive arcana on fire-air-earth adept and attunement
Cd range 11-8 on attun swap
elemental attunement on 5 of arcana
renewed stamina on adeptMake those change and u will unlock every kind of builds, sadly to say but imo every one wanna those traits at any cost… it s a must have for any ele build… otherwise this topic is only gossip… u wanna make more viable build just do this modify
I’ve always personally felt as well that Elemental Attunement is a class defining trait. I’ve been arguing to make it baseline or to bring it back down to tier one but the decision we’ve made instead is to bring Renewing Stamina back down to adept instead. This will prevent the dps ele nerf and even though we might all perceive that EA is a “staple” trait we do luckily have options to trait up instead to make up for the loss if you wish to spend points elsewhere. [Elemental Shielding, Zephyr’s Boon, Soothing Mist, etc. etc.] and yes… I know its more than one trait to make up for one but at least they are there and accessible low in other trait lines.
Our hope is not to destroy builds but to make more. Right now the way it looks for Elementalists in PvP is that most builds will still be the same, maybe with a little less AOE condition removal, but there will be more accessible options when going higher in the Fire, Air, and Earth trees.
I personally can’t wait for the Soothing Mist + Cleansing Water synergy. I think I will be enough for me to opt out of taking Cleansing Wave.
Sorry but it is not really like you had a choice: moving renewing stamina to master would simply destroy the ele both in PvP and PvE.
And it is not like we are shining at the moment.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I had a warrior alt ready just in case they moved renewing stamina to master tier.
They have averted a catastrophe.
Well that’s one catastrophe averted.
