HoT was never planned to be shipped as one big lot. It is to be supposed to come in several batches. To evaluate whether HoT is a 100% product or not you have to wait until the evening before expansion 2.

Except that the (non-existant) big wvw overhaul has been cancelled for good.

Make character names unique to the server?

It’s really difficult to come up with names for new characters or change the name on an existing one.

I recently changed the name on one of my characters but the name was already taken so I had to settle with an accent on one the letters. Sadly this was a huge mistake as it makes it harder for other people to whisper me and use the squadjoin command. Thankfully I got help from the Anet support to change my name again.

As a lot of names are already taken even with addition of surnames etc. added to the name the chances are that is is already taken and you have to settle with a name you don’t enjoy and hard to remember etc.

My suggestion is to make names unique to each server. But hold it right there, Aren’t the game now using this mega-server system? Yes but what if you whispered, squadjoin or add a friend you will at first add the players on your home server. If you wish to add someone on another server with the same name you have to add the Server name before the character name. Like for example Server Name Character Name. Also if there would be another character with the same name there could be a drop-down list with the server name(s) before the character name.

This way it’s possible to release more names for people without removing names from inactive account even if I would prefer 3+ years inactive account should have their names released for others to use.

The big concern I have hear, really, though, is “Why has it taken 6 months to create a single new legendary weapon?”

Because they havent started yet. Its the same kitten they pulled with the wvw overhaul. Claimed to be working on it for a year and now its cancelled yet they have nothing to show for it, never existed in the first place.

I remember the fanboying and backlash i received when I claimed they hadnt started working on the expansion at all when they announced it, turns out it took ages to finally release despite how early it was announced and only a quarter of it was released, now we see half is cancelled.

Obviously I go into this knowing that some players will be very upset. That’s why it’s such a tough decision.

Ankdarkwolf, Darkmikau, Ballads, Spira, Caerbannog, Cysgod, you each posted a variant of an accusation I’ve seen many times over the past few months on the forums, something along the lines of, “AN shipped half an expansion with HoT.” I take issue with that. We shipped a new region full of content, a new mastery system, gliding, guild halls, a new profession, nine new elite specializations for existing professions, and more. Then we shipped precursor journeys for existing legendaries, and said, “We’ve been working hard on new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates.” While I fully get that you’re disappointed today, this is not about us shipping half an expansion pack.

You’ve got some b*lls cancelling half of this expansion (we haven’t forgotten about the cancellation of the hyped up delayed wvw update which clearly never existed in the first place – but that’s ok because “wvwers are really into pve” right?) while having half your staff working on a second expansion as we speak. Too bad there won’t be anyone around to buy the second one. Half of your forum posters including me are only here to watch the ship as it sinks from greener pastures.

Mike is a visionary who serves his company best at the boardroom policy level. I sincerely hope this dual role as game director is a short-lived interim phase. GW2 needs an operative game director as soon as possible, and it should be someone with a stellar track record in operations management. I also hope the new director is passionate about PvP and WvW and understands their power for the longevity of GW2. If you design PvP & WvW right, this game will sustain itself far into the future on emergent gameplay alone. GW2 has the best combat system of any MMO I have ever played. It’s high time we had the infrastructure to match it.

My dream candidate for the job is circa 2006 Matt Firor before he was snatched by Zenimax. All those hard lessons learned from DAoC still fresh in mind, ready to revamp sPvP and WvW. All we need is a time machine.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Mike is the star of a famous video on youtube where he says “wvwers are really into pve”.

Necros can steal boons..

Boon corruption overbuffing; Well of corruption being 4 or 5x stronger due to heralds spamming boons every 3 seconds

Corruptions arent made stronger by increasing boon spam.. The main advantage of boon corruption is stripping the boon, the conditions in almost all cases are really nothing to get excited about not to mention it doesnt take long for them to be cleared in large scale fighting due to aoe condi clear and reduction.

The interesting corruptions are corrupting stab (into fear) and resistance(into chill which really is only interesting for small scale). The more cover boons someone has, the less likely you are to corrupt stability so spamming boons protects you from corruption of your important boons like stability.

Also.. sigh wells necros are used for their raw damage not corruption. The stability corrupting to fear is the cherry on the top.

Finally, you do realise that well of corruption corrupts one boon per pulse per player. Adding more boons ontop of that does not increase the amount of boons corrupted unless youre unaware of the amount of boon spam in large scale combat.

Please learn how to play the game before commenting on balance in the future..

Why are the elites so bad

I mean they are very bad in some way that make them undesirable to use.
first I would like to ask anet if possible to be able to select also a normal skill in the elite slot that could be a blast and make my life easier because we don’t have a signet and a trap, then I could equip something useful for my build instead something completely unrelevant.

Now let’s review the downside of every single elite:

  • spirit of nature: nice concept. Unfortunately the lack of mobility, together with the lack of range in the active with the absurd long cd make this skill a little bit more than an occasional aoe heal in 3 mins cool down.
  • strength of the pack: I use it only for the stab, because I have better means to get fury or might than a 60 second coll down skill for 9 seconds fury. Still not really worth it compared to the new shouts
  • entangle : the roots mechanics is a disgrace. You may trap some noobs but will not work with anybody with more than a 100 hour of gameplay.
  • glyph of equality : I use this one for the cleanse with verdant etching. The mechanic is very original and promising unfortunately the actual lack of range and any means of damage mitigation unless you waist another skill make you a little bit less than a suicide squad. You drop yourself in the middle of the zerg and hope for get downed 3 guys with the cost of your life.

So yeah, I could give some directions like the spirits to have the choice to be mobile and cast the active always when dying or the roots become unavoidable so you have to actually deal with the elite mechanic, but what do you think?

Although it only truly shines for one specific build/style if you think strength of the pack is bad you just haven’t figured out the true way to use it, and it is extremely strong for the way it is supposed to be used.

Too late I’m afraid, anet lost, the moment has passed. People have been asking this for years and finally moved on leaving wvw in its current pathetic state.

Also – the guild hall arena is a joke, there is so much unused area in guild halls that they fill up with water yet they couldn’t make the arena big enough for an actual gvg it speaks greatly for their attitude towards gvg.

Man, I didn’t know necros had only access to chill.

Necros do not stack well, but since there’s no cap on conditions anymore, the amount of bleed they were doing must have been insane.

If you have 25 bleeds on you youre dead anyway, its meaningless to say that because it goes above it makes the situation catastrophically worse.

I didn’t say it made the situation catastrophically worse, lol. I said three reapers can continue stacking bleed over 25 stacks so the dmg they did was insane. What is your problem?

Thats my point, once you have somehow gotten 25 bleeds on you, youre going down within the next second or so anyway – in a practical situation youre not going to see a team comp full of necros loading someone with 60 bleeds or so because the target will go down long before then.

My problem is this is a very old misconception that was brought up when the change happened regarding epidemic (“oh no new meta! epidemicing 100 bleed stacks”). People think it makes a difference – once you somehow manage to get 25 bleeds on yourself youre going down way before anything else interesting will happen.

I don’t think you’re getting the point at all.

I’m not talking about dying/survivng. I’m talking about the raw damage.

Youre not seeing what im saying. Youre talking about the raw damage from higher than 25 stacks of bleeds – the target will go down before the necros can ramp up higher than 25 stacks on him. Applying bleeds takes time, during that time the target will be taking a lot of damage from the current amount of stacks. Having close to 25 stacks of bleeds as well as anything other stray cover conditions and physical damage from the application will bring him down too quickly for that to happen.

Therefore the amount of bleeds on a target being focused by multiple necros before he goes down will not be far off the amount you would see before bleed stacks could go higher than 25.

Apparently an extra 300 damage output per second (a pretty dam long time in this game) is over the top nowadays.

It’s actually 600~800 in most cases (the 800 is due might and vuln stacks from), still my scepter 3 skill does more damage/second most of the cases and requires less trait investment.

Yep but I was talking in a sense of comparing the buffed version to the non-buffed version (when target is above 50%), in which case of course you wouldn’t count any might or vuln.

Plz learn to play, yes some builds counter each other this is how its supposed to be trivalising condi’ would push vs power builds only. If you cant deal with condi’s switch up your build so you can

okay so you play condi I get it… that was one point I had. That conditions are already trivial… what about the other two? I can counter condi fine I just think the payoff to skill required ratio is absurd. I’ve run condi builds and they are soooooo boring and easy. Im not saying make them do nothing…. just balance the payoff somehow.

Also it wouldn’t be power v power if they balance bunker rather than removed it.

you forgot to mention condi builds arent just condi builds thanks to stuff like Viper and Mercenary amulets giving not only almost max condi but almost max direct damage as well so condi builds get the best from both dps worlds while sacrificing nothing while power build relying professions need 3 stats to be effective and sacrifice something either sustain for max dps or dps for some sustain

So first you say mercenary amulet (which gives power only – in terms of direct dmg) gives almost max direct damage giving the best of both dps worlds, then you say power builds need all three stats to be effective, seems legit.

You also say by adding those to the amulets they sacrifice nothing but lets not dwell on that because anyone can see its false.

Finally as someone already said, in response to people QQing that condi builds only need one stat – anet literally added expertise and said do you think this makes things better? As well as better crit chance proccing more traits and sigils etc.

You do realize perma-Chill was possible by at least three builds before HoT released, right? One of which is an Ele build. (the other two being Ranger and Necromancer).

Chill is deadly. It’s supposed to screw you up royally while not actually preventing you from doing anything. And yes, Reaper puts out a lot of it. You do realize the point of Reaper was “if you’re caught, you’re screwed,” right? Reaper chill application at range is pathetic.

So all things considered, yes. Chill is balanced. The ones who put out oppressive amounts are also those that are designed to not be ones you want to brawl against. If you’re having issues with Chill, avoid the application, since large amounts are reliant on short range.

I do feel that Attunement cooldowns shouldn’t be affected by Chill, however.

You’re stupid lol, if you really think chill on reaper or in general is balanced then idk what to say with u. Chill lowers move speed by 66%, which makes it really easy for a reaper to catch up to someone (unless its a dd), and then spam chill. Chill is not balanced, it completely kittens someone up, especially if its from reaper. Just stop, seriously

Movement skills are not affected by chill and most if not all professions received traits which reduce chill duration by 33% or more with HoT.

Except high cooldown boonhate is inferior. Mesmers have had boon strip on sword auto since the beginning. Now that raids and certain fractal instabilities have constant boons you need regular boon hate. Mesmer has been filling that role perfectly while necro has been rather bad at it. Necro is majorly inferior to mesmer currently when it comes to dealing with boons. Corrupt is only slightly better than strip. But frequent is far superior to infrequent.

This was a good change. I was kind of hoping for it on greatsword, dagger or reaper shroud auto though. When Karl said we were going to get more boonhate. My ears perked up with anticipation. And then he announced it on scepter auto and i was a little disappointed.

Yeah ofcourse, I meant that as in coming from a soloroaming/pvp standpoint

Im not too sure im a fan of the corrupt boon change to be honest, it takes away the flavour of corrupt boon for me in corrupting a large amount of boons at once as a sure fire way of removing the boons im targeting even if it seems to be a buff numbers-wise. Also it feels like its just heading towards a more brainless approach of starting to promote spamming the skill when the cd is up.

I actually don’t like this change, not because its strong because its strength we need but because its just falling back to necro’s issue of being too focussed around autoattacking. I already have spite for necros spamming scepter #1, i definitely do not want this to become the optimum style of play.

What I mean is if a group of 50 tags 1 player, the system recognises one death and checks what server tagged it and awards one point for one death. If two groups of 50 from server A and B tag all tag one players from server C, server A and B will be rewarded one point each (not 50 each).

This doesnt create a snowball effects because it only awards one point per death, it will contribute to points in that being outnumbered means you will lose fights yes but it will not accelerate the points gained by the server with the larger population, will just add a constant ontop of the expected point spread we already see through the pure PPT system.

The difference in the behaviour of the point spread will be seen from players who successfully fight outnumbered in a sort of kill/death ratio theme.

But yeah briggah there is the issue that 1 person from server C can cast a meteor shower into a 50v50 fight of server A and B and run away getting free points regardless of the winner, although i cant remember the full notes so maybe thats also covered.

They also mentioned something like if multiple players from different servers attack the same players and those players die, both servers get a point. So basically I see PPK not making much of a difference. Just think, instead of watching 2 zergs fight it out because you don’t have the numbers to join in, all you need to do is tag a bunch of the players from both sides so when the other zergs kill each other, you’ll be making points for your server as well.

No it’s one point for one kill, well not necessarily kill – it’s linked to the death. The rules were posted back when the event was up and does a good job of preventing the side with larger numbers mechanically having the advantage. Its not necessarily a system that takes care of population imbalance etc it simply favours people who successfully fight outnumbered.

In the grand scheme of things concerning people who hide in large groups and towers the points development won’t show any big difference (it won’t cause a snowball but simply continue the non-PPK expected point spread assuming both sides don’t have enough players who successfully fight outnumbered).

They don’t seem to have much luck with that either.

I hope they will fail hard, to open there eyes.

They already did, they spent $200k on a (two) tournament(s) where the balance was so bad that one of the teams rage quit when the score was 72-0 and barely anyone watched it. Of those that did watch it they were mostly there for the twitch chat banter.

Possibly they have told us the truth all along:

They HAD been working on the overhaul for an entire year, and planned to release it just after HOT. BUT…. the changes they showcased with the expansion were so poorly received that they’ve ditched their plans and are going back to redesign yet again. (That may not be the worst outcome.)

So, maybe they are overhauling the overhaul, and that could be a direct result of listening to our feedback.

Problem is, they have difficulty telling us that since the ‘powers that be’ were previously sure in their (his) conviction that all of us who love WvW equally love PvE.

To announce that they are overhauling the unreleased, yet likely PvE-based WvW, would be to admit how fundamentally wrong they were to think we would whole-heartedly embrace it in the first place.

Nah, if they were to listen to the wvw community that would mean getting rid of almost all guild hall upgrades available in wvw. Guild hall upgrades are OP in wvw specifically to make more HoT sales, and it is such a grind to get those upgrades to sell gems. Its working exactly as they want right now.

Its the same reason they are going to just switch on gliding in core tyria without actually revamping maps with at least accurate invisible walls, no work went into making that a reality, they simply are going to recklessly turn it on and deal with the consequences of breaking jumping puzzles or players glitching through maps later. The sole reason for such a reckless move is make more free to play players buy HoT upon seeing everyone glide around.

Honestly they seem to be pulling a trion move right now. Taking a potentially great game (archeage) with a promising future and sacrifice its years by turning it into a cash cow to make short term money.

You guys want to hear about what going to happen but when your faces with the really of what your asking for and the time to make it work this is how you guys react i can see why they give no info most of the time. Read just read how you guys react to any new things and ask your self why dont they add new things in.

Theres always one that still defends them.. even when its already over. Anet lost, wvw is already dead – look around you and compare it to videos from two years ago.

Best WvW Server for Soloroaming?

Guys im pretty sure that by solo roaming, hes looking for a server that actually has something to fight 1vx’s. Solo roaming doesnt necessarily mean pvd..

Pretty sure that if he wanted to pvd and cowardly avoid fights on an empty border he’d know to go to the bottom server.

As for the OP’s post, go to t1.

1vX is on any server though, you can get fights on T8 (Erebon Terrace) if you roam around looking for that from the other two T8 servers in EB when its not that servers’ prime time. Same for T2 servers…

On T2 servers, you’ll find a few Sea of Sorrows roaming around ganking others or even roaming around solo or with others in small groups trying to pick off various blobs of FA or TC people.

Im on ros atm, I can go 2 hours of solo roaming on the borders without meeting a soul. After 4 hours you might find one nike warrior who’s there specifically to avoid fights. I was once on Gandara for a short while and it reminded me of what roaming used to be. You could get a 1v1 or 1vx atleast every few minutes.

Saying that if you roam on the bottom tier server for an indefinite time you can technically eventually get a 1vx is misleading, it will take hours.
