previously there were two ways of getting a precursor:
-get extremely lucky and find one
-work slowly towards one until you finally accumulate enough resources to obtain onenow there’s a third way:
-work slowly towards one until you finally accumulate enough resources to obtain one (at greater expense than than the previous option)
Why don’t you just sell those resources and buy it though. I don’t get why people are saying there’d an option to accumulate mats slowly than farm gold cos you can just craft bolts of damask or whatever and sell them rather than sink them into the precursor mastery and apparently buy the precursor from the tp for cheaper.
I so angry at anet now.. my issue is not that the hero points spawn champions no thats fine, if anything theyre not challenging enough (hear me out).
So i found one and tried to kill it in full dire on necro and got somewhat close but the timer ran out so i thought fair enough im using tanky gear whatever, tried it in full zerker cos thats what I had on me, survived and still didnt kill it.. (did less damage i think due to toughness? but thats not the point). So what it is is that for god knows what reason they do not want these mobs soloable which is ridiculous in itself. But what is worse is that they were too dam lazy to implement real difficulty not to make it soloable, they didnt even take their usual pathetic approach with pve and overload the mob with stats, they took the full cheese approach and included a dps timer.
This crap doesnt even make sense lore-wise. Oh take this egg, oh no a big bug appeared to kill you for taking it but after 4 minutes even though he didnt kill you and stop you from taking the egg he decided he couldnt be bothered anymore and disappears and yet somehow the egg you were fighting to take suddenly disappears even though the bug failed to kill you.
Another sad thing about this whole situation is knowing that considering how much health i managed to take out in dire I wouldve probably completed the challenge on sinsiter engi.
I was actually enjoying exploring the map because the second HoT map seemed like less of a glorified jumping puzzle but then boom i reach this absolute cheese hard cap stopping me from immersing myself in the exploration and tells me i have to beg on map chat for someone to go out of their way to run all the way to me on a dead map.

Oh crap I deleted it too..
Lol of all the pitiful threads I’ve read today, this one just feels outright sad. There’s so many people in this game who are just ready to rise up and complain at the slightest discomfort I can’t believe it lol. I mean really, asking for a refund now? For one they already released a considerable amount of info both in the form of videos and announcements and in the beta tests so I didn’t think most things were to unexpected. Am I particularly happy about some of the changes and having to go hard for specs and masteries? Maybe not but I have other fun things to do while I do them so who cares lol. Even if I did buy the expansion though and hated everything about it I would never ask for a refund however. I made the decision to spend money on it and if the game didn’t meet up with what I wanted it to well that sucks but to bad. I honestly think this expansion is what a lot of players need, people have been complaining about easy content for a while now well guess what, here you go lol you asked for this! Now not everything’s handed to everyone and you have to work a little for it, be happy people asked for this after all. X3 Just wish people could learn to take GW2 for what it is, a game, and stop acting like they’ve been cheated every time the game doesn’t go in the direction they want it to.
/rant off
People aren’t complaining about difficulty they’re complaining about grind to artificially extend what is possibly a very lacking amount of real content. They’re two very different things.
Pooka gives them 14 days.
xD
“No grind” never meant you would never have to do anything to access content. It just meant there would be no gear grind (ie vertical progression), it didnt mean there would never be horizontal progression (ie what we have now). I mean yea, if you want to call it “content stretching” instead of horizontal progression, you arent wrong, but thats how the game was always intended to be.
Sorry you misinterpreted it and wasted your 50 bucks, but have fun in your next game.
No it’s the illusion of horizontal progression. Fundamentally vertical progression is grind this otherwise you cannot beat player x or champion mob x regardless of what you do. Horizontal progression is grind this is you want more ways to defeat player x or champion mob x but if you don’t grind anything it’s still possible even if it’s slightly harder. I can’t continue the living story episodes with sheer willpower and skill or taking a longer route through the jungle to reach the destination of the next episode, I must sit and grind and it must be in the new maps only.
To make things worse they have taken away the options to ‘level up’. In the base game when levelling to 80 you can grind mobs, or you can explore, craft, gather, do events, do wvw, do PvP all these things and you can technically be in any map you want. It might be harder to stay alive in a high level map but you’re not restricted from being there. If I want to play the story I must sit in the maps and do events, at this point I would try to just explore every inch of the map to get away from the grind but in these maps it’s not exploration it’s much closer to finding how to solve a jumping puzzle which I hate, while also reaching multiple dead ends due to masteries. Also there’s a glaring issue with the map having a lot of verticality while having a 2D minimap.

What a game
Yeah that’s not challenging in my opinion that’s just cheesy gimmicks to give the illusion of difficulty. They should be working to implement more of the existing combat system (give mobs pulsing boons so they encourage stripping/corrupting etc) not less of it.
Do we think that everyone is going to stop complaining and calm down in a weeks time when they fully unlock their elite spec for their chosen mains?
Those Hero Points in Heart of Thorns are utterly bad.
5min for killing a champ solo which not only hit like a truck, also CC and heals up or stealth.
A few months ago: We want harder open world content ArenaNet!
Decently challenging hero point challenges that require you to group in a MMO are implemented.
Forums this week: We want easier open world content!
I haven’t fought one of these champions yet but I’m pretty sure the people asking for this are asking for proper scaling not easier content. As it stands it seems these champions are not soloable (talking pure numbers of damage received and damage dealt) but get roflstomped by a passing zerg.
No no, 3 right now, they have said as time goes on, ( the near future I presume) they will definitely be adding more and more.
Don’t count on it, it took the almost a year to come up with three and they still missed the deadline.
Of those, only Flame Burst actually does everything at the beginning. Lava Font, Burning Retreat, and Meteor Shower all function as pulsing effects like wells; yes you might get hit by the first tick but you can move out. You can’t move out of marks once they hit.
Thing is, im thinking couldnt you say its still balanced because one meteor from meteor shower does about the same damage as a mark?
Not denying that it is bad, but it is a PvE only trait regardless. If it needs to be replaced that’s a side issue.
Really strange that you see a condition trait as a PvE trait. If anything parasitic contagion is a WvW trait but not a PvE trait.
Well not really because you have group condi clear flying everywhere.
Parasitic contagion works best when there are a large number of targets who dont fight back much or cleanse themselves, it isnt effective in current pve encounters because condi dmg is lower than power and current pve doesnt really require you to have sustain.
Which does not change the fact that it’s not a trait that is more usefull for PvE than it is for PvP. My point was more that you’ll have more material to use it in WvW than in any other game mode and it’s mainly due to the fact that player vs player encounter a favourable to condition and almost passive healing while PvE is more like swim or sink but don’t take any hit.
Beside, nothing showed in the last BWE give more importance for this trait in PvE. So current or not the value for PvE is the same as the value for PvP : 0. Don’t mind me but it’s kinda boring to see people saying : Wait, soon they will design PvE to make the necromancer’s trait awesome. They simply won’t, they will keep their game balanced for the majority of the professions with a PvP priority in their mind.
The issue with parasitic contagion is that we primarily see it as a sustain healing trait while it’s strenght lie in it’s ability to burst heal ourselves via boon corruption or epidemic.
Yeah I don’t expect them to deliver pve that is any different from now myself either.
I understand what you’re saying, I just had a completely different point/topic running in my head at the time related to developing traits with the intention of being used in a well rounded encounter and not developing traits only to benefit the dps or go home situation because the pve raid designers can’t create proper encounters.
Sorry isn’t really anything to do with this topic I think.

Yeah i dont see the difference at all with fast-cast aoe and this, but also surely the lack of damage on staff brings it in line with lightning strike on ele and electric discharge being insta-cast.
If raids and new legendary weapons are the solo reason for you to buy HoT, I hope you can get the refund.
It wasn’t but the content we’re actually recieving on HoT launch compared to how much we would have received with the previous model of regular updates (and have been missing out on since HoT announcement) is beginning to become negligible.
This post shows that OP never play an expansion in mmo game before.
There was only dungeons, wvw and pvp in gw2 at launch. No fractal, living story, eotm, ect. Did you say GW2 was unfinished product? Nope, I don’t think so.
My point is that on the date I bought Gw2’s core game it wasn’t on the premise that I would receive the living story and eotm on the date I bought the game. I had the game the first winter after launch so I don’t know what happened at launch but like I said, I would be equally annoyed if just weeks before the release they turned around and said that wvw and dungeons weren’t playable until a month after launch despite giving a release date and people buying the game based on being given that release date.
So OP you’re complaining about pre purchasing because raids and legendaries wont be out at launch when we’ve know for sometime that raids and to a lesser extant legendaries would be after launch? If that’s the case I feel no pity for you. It was in your power as a consumer to make an informed decision before buying a product, not Anets.
We were told atleast three new legendaries and one raid would be there on launch.
No we didn’t. What was said at the Raid reveal (think it was at PAX?) was that the first wing of the first Raid would be released a short time period after the release of the expansion to give people time to play some content and get their masteries levelled up a bit.
I believe this video will clarify a little for you
The live stream that announced raids said the first wing would be out a week or so after release and the other wings would be released after that.
https://youtu.be/tM8cgQ42bMQ?t=958
—>before christmas.
Hmm, my bad didnt see this. Lol it turns out this came out a week after i pre-purchased sigh i shouldve waiting longer. Well doesnt change my opinion about how this is a completely unfinished product and plain wrong but it was my bad for not waiting longer.

Hate to be the pessimist here, but I personally don’t really foresee a surge of players unfamiliar with PvP or WvW going into those modes. Reason being? The mats needed for the new legendaries from both modes will be tradeable.
I’m sure there will some, but doubt it will be overly noticeable.
Thats a good thing in my opinion because it hopefully addresses how wvw players have been the poorest of the three game modes for the longest time.
nice dungeon thread brah
’Fractals, Dungeons & Raids ’ :P
@ Zetsumei It’s pretty common knowledge in this day/age that you don’t pre-order, let alone fully pre-purchase a game anymore unless you’re entirely sure you’re going to be playing it, regardless what happens or is offered.
Yeah I feel like an idiot, was amongst the latest of my friends to buy the expansion (just before the last beta weekend) being cynical the whole way through as my reason and now I feel like I’ve been swindled on the last minute. Sigh and I was sitting there thinking the time window between then and the expansion was too short to get mugged off.
You guys realise that probably the biggest reason specialisations haven’t been talked about or put in the beta is because the content isn’t anywhere near being completed right lol? That goes for most of the content in HoT. What people are failing to realize is that the majority of the content wasn’t being completed in secret all this time in some good-willed plan by anet but being created from scratch as we speak. People should weigh up whether the missing content from the usual updates is significantly less than what this expansion will give us.
Where did they say that they just started work on this expansion? If I remember correctly they said they’ve been working on the features for a while and they waited until they were content with what they were going to add in the expansion before talking about all of it.
Also with closed beta starting soon (and there being no NDA for the closed beta) means that HoT is feature complete already and just a lot of iterations/balances/fixes are left to do.
I’m surprised when people think news shared with the community is when the devs started the whole process. They are always working on future content, always. Just like with the story reveal for the Sylvari, it was something planned from the beginning of gw2. Yes they will iterate along the way, sometimes greatly sometimes less so, but the future is always being planned.
Arena Net definitely knows how to keep the hype train going, even when some of us feel like it’s been agonizing to wait. They’ve released a blog post every week since the expansion announcement so while it may not be news some of us are interested in, there is always news being shared.
I’ve said more than I needed but basically all of this has already been planned way in advance. Even their weekly blog releases. It would be naive of someone to think otherwise.
Remember when I said this?
“Collections for the existing legendary weapons will be available on launch day, while the first three new legendaries will become available shortly after launch, alongside raids.”
^ taken from the blog about the new legendaries.
Unfinished product. Pathetic.
Nothing to be in a fuss about IMO, it’s not like they were late donating organs to a patient or something causing his death. It’s just a game, if they’re releasing it late it means it probably still needs some polishing and stuff. Better than being sold a broken product.
Again, that’s just making excuses for them. As customers we should not have to choose between buggy or finished. An expansion is different from free updates, they are being paid to deliver a finished, non-buggy product. This is real money.
Anyway ugh no point ranting too much just need to hurry and find another game to move on to.
Thankfully the simultaneous Halloween release will occupy our minds elsewhere.
Wait, I thought we learnt to completely expect recycled content once again, have they said otherwise anywhere? Personally I’m expecting the opposite, they released HoT at that time so that we would be occupied enough to not complain about yet again recycled content for haloween.
“Collections for the existing legendary weapons will be available on launch day, while the first three new legendaries will become available shortly after launch, alongside raids.”
So looks like there won’t be any raids or new legendaries at launch… What did I pay for in the end.
This sounds barely legal to be honest, its as if a game was launching and two weeks before release they said oh we haven’t finished making dungeons.. or world vs world we ‘promise’ we’ll release it a month after launch but it’s ok cos you won’t have levelled up enough for the content anyway, and meh we already have your money.

Completely regret buying the expansion.. this is pathetic. It would be fine to make do with the situation if this was the free bi-weekly updates. This is a product we’ve paid for, its not ok for them to not deliver. This is ridiculous think about what you’ve paid for now, what is there on launch left that we have paid for.
People need to stop making excuses for them.. whether or not we’ll be able to finish the content required to start this stuff is irrelevant, it doesn’t justify having them not have to meet deadlines we have paid for.

That was taken from the blog about the legendaries. I was already disgusted that they made it out like they were time-gating content for us when really it’s because they couldn’t finish making the content for their given deadline but if I’m reading this correctly, none of the new legendaries or raids will be ready for launch?
But if that burn guard played a dps guard and you are out of dodges or blocks, it’s the same thing…you have damage coming your way and you have little defense for it.
People just have a prejudice against bursty condis.
Things that stop melee physical damage.
Cripple/Chill
Blind
Weakness
Slow
Confusion
Invulnerability
Dodge
Leaps
CC
Toughness
Things that stop ranged physical damage.
All of the above besides Cripple/Chill unless you are running
Reflect
Line of Sight
Things that stop condition damage.
Lucky dodges or blinds
Condition removal
Resistance
Most condition causing skills aren’t even projectiles but reflect or dodges for the few that are.You realize everything on that list apart from weakness and swapping toughness for vitality stops condition damage right..
Nope because big condition causing skills don’t have obvious animations so you have to luck dodge/blind them. Again vitality doesn’t do kitten to mitigate conditions, it’s just extra burst health protection once a fight that does the exact same for physical, toughness reduces damage done, increasing healing effectiveness. Also I forgot to add Protection to that list at that.
Grasping dead and enfeebling blood don’t have obvious animations? Are you sure? Just because you don’t see big numbers when hit by condition skills doesn’t mean you shouldnt learn to dodge them, too many people behave this way. Play those classes with condi weapon sets and learn the animations, same as any other build.
Fair point on healing effectiveness with toughness vs vitality but condition removal is the mirror of protection, except it trades passive play for the potential to cut off more or less of the potential damage (about 33%) from conditions placed on you depending on your judgement and reflexes.

Could you not argue that rather than being a new class of original design its a class that imitates other classes or rather acts in a way that would be sufficient for a new elite spec of an existing class?
corruptions – necro, shiro – thief etc
Well, WvW has long been grumbling about lack of an income compared to PvE…this is one way to make up for it.
Wvw players won’t be receiving this reward cos it’s only part of the spvp reward track unless I’m mistaken.
If you want people to take you seriously, play necro long enough to understand how ignorant it is to say ‘they have two lives’ or don’t comment on it at all..
Yeah would be very cool if we got a witchdoctor spec that had an f2 that reversed death shroud’s attacks into their equal and opposite ally helping boons or something.
Shroud #3 giving an ally stab, traited #2 converted two condis into boons on an ally you blink to, #1 dhuumfire giving aegis to an ally – balancing everything with the durations. Could even bring back renewing blast cos itd be locked into life blast’s cast times
Well, that kind of went away with the Daredevil, didn’kitten
Oh I forgot to check out daredevil actually x)
Edit: oh lol is their new profession mechanic flavour just the dodge stuff, well yeah lol guess it did go out the window with them.
(edited by Zetsumei.4975)
Sooo.. what happened to how elite specs with a new offhand weapon gets an upgrade to their class mechanic (e.g. chrono gets f5) while professions getting a 2handed weapon get a replaced profession mechanic (e.g. reaper loses death shroud for reaper’s shroud).
Wait does that mean opening them on a low level character deletes your chances of getting a precursor from the bags? And are you absolutely sure?
Since you cant see the damage ticks from transfered condis, do you still not see anything if you epidemic purely transfered condis on a target to others?
Well not really, lol almost all classes are represented in zergbusting/gvg’s. The gwen only is an old concept id say although obviously youre probably talking about a pug group asking you this. Thief has a role, most of that is being on the gank squad to take out backline (ele + necro). If it is a pug commander being toxic about this lol i dunno what to say, you should probably inform him hes plain wrong.
Maybe they should make Vital Persistance baseline and replace it with Renewing Blast… Which should be renamed to Renewing Shroud #1
Replace vital persistance with Dhumnfire and add Renewing Blast to grandmaster. That way you can go something crazy like Apothecary and be very succesful.
Would be a nice pick for team fights that’s right. But I wonder if the same would happen here what happened to med kit rework: complain about Renewing Blast, which doesn’t heal the reaper himself.
But maybe it could be way to OP. Imagine: you use Rise! on your enemies, then cleave the enemies in reapers shroud while healing your shambling horrors permanently.
Dam that’s a cool idea !
Pretty sure the devs already said eotm doesn’t count towards the wvw activity count.
Do you just need the research tiers done or individual upgrades like guild bank or whatever?
“If your guild had obtained the necessary research level and prerequisites to have consumables like banners or Vault Transport unlocked under the current system, you will have them unlocked to craft in the new system.” ~ Rethinking Guilds
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh time to get farming again T__T
Many solo roamers like myself, group roamers and duelists are for the fights only as well ^^.
yes, but you’re not a guild group
you’re straying away from our little off-topic segue :p
Well I was referring to your comment on wvw not only being about zerg fights and my point on how much of the wvw population is made up of for the fights only players, that roamers make up a significant portion of.
I want to ask, what is the server instability you’re talking of if there are no queues? If you mean the glicko rating of the server being rocked by large amounts from gvg guilds leaving that only means that they did passively largely contribute to the ppt and so they will be missed. Gvg guilds leaving will not be magically replaced by ppters, you cant make the argument that if they didn’t exist people could ppt more efficiently because there are no queues in this situation. If you’re angry that they do not care enough to respond to defense calls, again if there are no queues and the gvgers didn’t exist there would still be no one to respond to defense calls. You also need to remember how much of pug blobs are made up of gvg guildies and guild raiders outside of raid times and how much their size would dwindle if they left.
Or are you saying if they were gone you could better cull the mentality of wanting to be just for fights.
(edited by Zetsumei.4975)
No – i hate the fact that fights guild just focus on fights and nothing else. I’ve had a share of people in guilds obsessing about builds and winning fights and getting everyone an earful every time their driver could not defeat a 1v5 odds.
I like fighting for defense and pushing enemies out as much as the next guy, but being GvG focused only is something i really dont like, as they dont contribute to overall server stability and no loyalty at all. I’ve seen these types of guilds come and go as word reaches their ears of better fights in a certain server. Just done with them.
With this new map, and with the GvG function coming up, i hope i never see a group of people who call themselves “fights guild” and pretend they give two sharts about WvW at all.Meh, most of the EU for the fights people (I hear there’s a lot of map chat drama back and forth between the two communities in NA) share a general mentality of promoting the idea of doing what you enjoy regardless of what that is and not doing what is boring out of some meaningless duty. I don’t really care what you think of us to be honest, as long as you don’t try to interrupt other people’s fun such as scrims on the island north of south camp being a vulnerable position when they don’t effect your fun in any negative way (no queues).
I do find it funny that the hate on fights guild that is becoming popular again which used to be a thing a while back before dying out (whether that’s because many people warmed up to the meaninglessness of ppt at once or because they realized they needed people to wipe enemy blobs I can only imagine) you cry when they leave and blame them for the servers population dying out despite wanting them gone. In a game mode where the population is already struggling I don’t think the new fights guild haters understand how badly it would dwindle if you deleted all the for the fights players. In other words I’m not sure you fully grasp the size of the percentage of wvw players who don’t care much for ppt. Just food for thought
.
Exactly why i said the fight guilds cause server instability, is because of this. WvW isnt GvG. Thanks to the ANET people for coming up with GvG portion so we can be rid of people who think they are the lifeblood of WvW but does very little WvW-ing themselves. (read: wvw isnt just fighting blob vs blob)
After that, GvG arena is out, we can build a stable and proper WvW community that cares about something else apart from getting fights. :p
Many solo roamers like myself, group roamers and duelists are for the fights only as well ^^.
If there was a trait tier beyond Grandmaster, that would fit in there
I think that they don’t want to make another Steal out of Shroud #1, though. It can already apply vuln, might, burning. Add healing and transfer and we will be even greater masters of auto-attack then we are now.
True, I have to admit I’ve never been a fan of our dependence on autoattack :P
Does anyone ever wonder what could’ve been with this trait on reaper if it hadn’t been deleted. Similar to the new dhuumfire, reapers shroud eliminates the issues that came with the trait (too slow a projectile and cast time) but more significantly in how hard it was to land in death shroud. ~800 heal per slash with healing power cleave? Would’ve been glorious in my opinion xD.
Coupled with the new blood magic hmm.

Do you just need the research tiers done or individual upgrades like guild bank or whatever?
If, as some people like to argue, all enemies but the Reaper is a bunker, then chances are you should probably just… Leave that fight and go be useful somewhere else? That’d be my best advice.
well this is dumb, if you get something like ele ele guard reaper thief you can’t focus anyone. you pressure ele they get out of the fight and reset. you pressure thief you cant really pressure a thief if the thief is good. you pressure guard someone on your team will die to pressure before the guard does. you can only resort to good old focus the necro exept this time it will take 3x the time it usually takes to kill it.
Soo.. why are people only complaining about reaper and not the rest?
LOL @ WvW Community.
You’re more likely a GvG focused community, do not mix one with the other…
That said, i have to say, i hate GvG guilds with a passion.
If you want fights, go to HoTM or wait for the new GvG thing that will come out. If you’re really itching for it, abuse Obsidian Sanctum as much as you want.
WvW isnt GvG …blobbing each other, killing each other, trying to make it look like that winning a GvG is actually worth something. LOLFights guilds, whats the point? Nothing in the end really. Win a GvG, then what’s next? You dont get a medal for it, so stop your whining.
I don’t really care if people don’t like gvgs or gvgers for whatever reason but what I was interested about in your comment is it does sound like you don’t like fighting of any sort? Are you suggesting you like the idea of wvw not having to require you to fight other players at all?
Btw disclaimer – I’m not saying I think the wvw map should be reduced in size and although I haven’t played on it yet, despite being a for the fights player I think it’s a good idea that it’s big as this would reduce theeffectiveness of the mother blob tactic in the long run.
