Legendaries aren’t supposed to be farmed for, you slowly accumulate gold and then buy them months later.
Wrong.
Average gold income is below the inflation curve for precursors.
You actually think Abyss supply has anything to do with unidentified dye drop rates? Cute.
In fact, nearly all the Abyss (and other rare grays) is crafted by max lvl Cooks who also camp the TP for cheap Coriander. I used to do it but at the moment the profit margin is too low compared to my current activities.
Um, no…if you take a month you’ll find lodestone price inflated
Try to do it in a week or prepare for 1-2 extra weeks after your month to match inflation
oh look another thread where “elite” players tell everyone game is balanced while the player base continues to dwindle
If the game was balanced to cater to new players to PvP without much awareness or reaction time (like everyone when they first come to the mists at rank 1), elite players wouldn’ t stay.
Nonsense.
There’s no problem balancing the game both for average players and for elite players, case in point: League of Legends, the most popular multuplayer game in the world.
Ok i have 3 lvl 80,s , 100 % map completion , 5 × 400 crafting and nearly 3k achievement points , but it feels like i have done nothing , i dont know why this is . Does anyone else feel the same way ?
Need more cool titles n rewards at least , and being able to see you’re own achievement in game might help
I also play w v w v w and i get the same feeling there too , you cap a tower they cap it back instantly , lack of rewards too
I like the game and want it too succeed
Things I feel good about:
- WvWing with friends
- Cornering a TP niche and making as much gold as I want
Seriously, cut rangers some slack.
Here’s a story: a friend of mine first evening in WvW. I told him “you’ll die a lot to thieves, nothing much you can do about it; just be cool and wait for me to kill the thief and rez you”.
As predicted, he was targeted and insta-burst by thieves all evening long. Every time I rezzed him; overall he had a fun time; but by the end he was like “I already hate thieves”. That’s how a newbie that was babysitted feels about it. Imagine what it feels when you don’t have a friend to warn you about thieves and take care of them. It must be a terrible ordeal and I’m not surprised at all so many people have quit in disgust over thieves.
The moment an alt of mine hits lvl 14 I buy all the best green gear/runes/sigils. Price doesn’t matter.
Since always and it’s very easy to test it yourself.
ANet’s statements about mechanics are general guidelines at best and useless at worst. Everything in this game must be tested to actually find out how it works.
ANet has long balanced ranged for PvP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdevV3itRpY
The day spvp offers PvE rewards is the day botters will infest it in some lame AFK way that ANet didn’t think of countering. Stay away from PvE. Spvp is failing because of lack of esport features like real ladder&spectator and because the one mode available (capture the point) is not appealing to many people
It’s only a matter of time before Legendaries get better stats than other weapons. It will happen with the first paid expansion when the item level of all gear will rise along with maximum character level (confirmed by devs).
They said legendaries would automatically upgrade to the next tier – ascended – and adding a new tier is supposed to be a one time thing, if everything goes smoothly. They never said anything about legendaries scaling in level.
Sure they could end up scaling, but probably not. They’re way too cheap for a permanently “the best” item and they’ll only get easier to make in expansions, assuming the current material trend is kept.
I don’t think you get it.
What ANet has long confirmed is the increase of level cap for characters in expansions.
Higher level cap = higher item level cap. Your lvl 80 exotics and ascended will pale in comparison to the lvl 100 exotics/ascended. Now, I doubt ANet will create entirely another item level of Legendaries fully obsoleting the current one (although they’ve done stanger things), but a process of a kind for upgrading them at enormous cost is guaranteed. Mind you, your weapon has stats equal to about three pieces of armor or trinkets, and on top of that your weapon is an independent multiplier of all your direct damage. It’s only a matter of time before it becomes “pay to win”.
I also go with pure force sigils so that my condition damage gets a boost as well.
Sigil of Force doesn’t affect condition damage. Nor does +3% damage per clone. Nor Vulnerability.
Regardless of whether or not it’s horizontal progression or vertical progression, buying legendaries off the TP is Pay2Win.
What do you win? A costume contest?
It’s only a matter of time before Legendaries get better stats than other weapons. It will happen with the first paid expansion when the item level of all gear will rise along with maximum character level (confirmed by devs). Normal gear will simply be obsolete and we’ll have to grind new exotics/ascended. There’s no info on what will happen to legendaries yet, but I bet it’s going to be infusion process giving them superior stats to all other weapons.
For roaming I suggest finding:
1. A build that can reasonably stand toe to toe v a roaming Thief, you’ll meet many
2. A build that can solo camps
Bonus points if your build is good underwater.
Reads like you did not got the point in German, French and Spanish Servers!
People choose them because of the language spoken in TS and written in chat.
They want to use their own language and not English.
And you think all other 40 nations in Europe don’t? No Russian servers (really, ANet?). No Italian servers. No Polish servers. No dozens of other servers. You guys have your own servers, fail to organize because of “hate”, and then come here raging against Desolation because we build bridges instead of burning them.
Another option is to keep at 3s for the first stealth, but then increase to 6 and 9 for consecutive stealths.
And we cant unite all german servers . Its nearly hate between the Servers, especially Kodash, Riverside, Elona, the top german servers.
Yeah, yeah, OK, I get it. German and French servers have old rivalries and can’t unite.
But you are wrong to think that on EU servers it’s all roses. Have you ever tried to be on a teamspeak where everyone has his own idea of “English” from Scottish English to Italian English to Russian English? Being all German or all French has some significant advantages too, but you don’t see us constatly kittening about them. Deso has been a top server from the very beginning, the core guilds never left only got stronger, and we play honorably, which sadly cannot be said for Arborstone.
The problem with vitality is it can keep up with toughness only until the first heal. After that it is a road down. I cannot speak of all the classes, but as far as the Mesmer is concerned Vitality + Healing together equal a stat worthy of comparison to Toughness. On their own healing is terrible and Vitality is meh. The only non-Rabid piece I’d wear is to not waste stat on Precision that doesn’t add up to a full % of crit, and it’s always just a gem in a trinket.
In spvp you have to play flavor of the month cookie cutter.
WvW has more room for improvisation. The fights are anywhere from 1v1 to zerg v zerg, there are interesting foods, racial skills, and even some odd pve things that still work or Mimic preloads. My craziest build was 2xrunes of grenth, ice, and svanir, major (not superior coz it’s bugged) sigil of chilling, ghost pepper popper food and greatsword at 50+ crit. Throw in blink/portal and at nighttime even d/d eles stay exactly where you want them. However, WvW is not what it was anymore. Thieves are a major threat outside of the zerg and they have too many gap closers and stealth for this to work.
So unless you stay with the zerg all the time, you have to use a build that can counter thieves. Such a build requires two things: enough survival to save you against at least one out-of-stealth macro; and enough damage to down the thief, otherwise he’ll restart the fight again and again until he wins. There are only two builds I know that can do that; a mostly zerker shattercat and rabid condition. In fact only the shatter is clearly superior, the rabid gets thieves because they fail to realize how much damage will proc after they try to restart; don’t expect this to work against experienced thieves in tpvp.
Anyhow, there must be some undiscovered fun combos working in WvW still. Good luck!
I know it, it’s not the first time we play against each other
Your timing is just very bad. Recruit when the week is over or while you are winning a game otherwise it seems like a defiant, childish reaction for people.
Childish reactions look like childish reactions to me.
Remember orb walking?
N/A
No ladder no rating.
No autoface is for games with no lag/culling issues.
I actually did a guild footrace once in SE Iron Marches. I’d tell you who was first out of the ele/thief/warrior, but my purple turtle (aka mesmer) was so far behind I was not able to see the finish.
LOL @ thief qqing on the forum because once he got burst down the way thieves burst glass cannons 24/7
LOL @ people who say the Mesmer used macro…you confused a pebble for a mountain. The best I’ve played against (top 20 LOL EU West) are WAYYY faster than that – yet they are not nearly as quick as actual esport champions like Taipei Assassins are. If you guys want to play competitively you’d better man up
In regard to precursors, the vast majority of the playerbase doesn’t think it’s fine. It’s one thing to have a high but stable price, its another to see continued inflation vastly outpacing individual income. This is what is happening now. Precursors are an unreachable goal for the vast, vast majority because ANet has failed to tune the drop rates properly.
Again, it’s not the inflation. Precursors, lodestones, etc: all the hard drops for legendaries and elite skins will continue to rise in price faster than inflation. They are a fast moving goal post because the richest players have no problem paying that much for them. The root of the issue is the Trading Post which is a tool for creating vast wealth inequalities similar to those in the real world. While that is not a problem per se, people playing fantasy MMOs do expect legendary weapons to be awarded for more than playing the TP better than 99% of the population. At the moment the best way to get a legendary is to park your toon in the TP at lvl 2 and alt-tab to gw2spidy.
As I’ve pointed out before, GW2 design unwisely chose to defy both the soulbind on acquire legendary components of casual MMOs that don’t allow for legendary purchasing on the open market; and the harsh penalties on death that the hardcore MMOs with detailed economy have. As a result, one doesn’t need to play GW2 to get a legendary and in fact one is wasting time when not playing the TP.
For example, a person with legendary (yep, the orange ones) in WoW is a person who raided a lot and his entire guild decided he is worthy of the single legendary that can reasonably be assembled. A person with the legendary “equivalent” in EVE, the supercapital ship, certainly has the skill and knowledge to play the game well enough to protect his ship, and trust me there isn’t anything that gets pilots scrambling as the yell “supercapital tackled at X”. Whereas owning legendary in GW2 means…what? That the owner applied math and tracking software to win the TP mostly at the expense of the other players? Not very legendary, especially in the setting of GW2, supposedly a game of heroes like the Destiny’s Edge and not Monopoly gentlemen.
Best in slot: the best gear that can be equipped in a given slot
Scholar runes are for high skill cap players. Some classes can prevent all damage for long periods if played well.
The earliest Ive gotten a 1v1 kill on an 80 is lvl 5 blue gear thief.
So..your advice was to change to a shatter spec… Lol
That’s how ANet wants us and that’s why they nerfed phantasms despite them being weak to begin with.
Dec 14th patch – Superior Rune of Lyssa: This item now applies 5 seconds of Protection and Retaliation while on a competitive PvP map. The item’s internal cooldown has been fixed to allow rune effects to occur every 10 seconds.
Yes, I’m sure, test it yourself but be mindful of all effects that will increase your condition damage (might, corruption, different weapon stats, etc). For instance, sword clones can stack 10+ vulnerability but that won’t have any effect on bleed, or scepter clones with or without the +3% trait per clone will do the same bleed damage. Switching from +5% sword to sigil of earth sword has no effect on bleed damage too.
The other common myth about condition damage is that only full seconds matter; that’s not true fractional increases (that actually work as opposed to bugged) add extra chance for damage ticks.
Edit: a couple more points about duration. Firstly, that makes rare veggie pizza a potential game-breaker for certain condition builds; not mesmer ones as it won’t affect our clones’ condition duration, but classes that do all by themselves. There’s no way to balance conditions for spvp, and then have them balanced still with 40% extra. Of course, the pace of WvW is different so that may not matter above 1v1.
On a more arcane technological note, conditions probably tick once per server second, but our attacks are time-stamped inbetween full server seconds. That makes both the statement “once per second” and the fact that fractional duration increases matter correct.

@Delusion – there’s no guarantee you can defeat a shattercat in spvp even with condition build done right; shatters are very strong atm. To do conditions right use Rabid amulet, trash all your torches and never ever use them again, use pistol instead and learn to combo iduelist’s finishers.
@Osicat – % damage increases and vulnerability won’t increase condition damage regardless of what some articles say…IMO the people who wrote them had might stacks from staff bounces and didn’t realize it; also Lyssa was nerfed for spvp.
1. WvW is unfair
2. Full Exotics are a must
Excellent decision if you’re sitting on a capital hungry ROI.
I am and I like them.
Let’s make WvW its own thing and leave spvp and pve be.
It’s a consequence of the naturally uneven wealth distribution in human communities (yes, even online ones), as I once wrote https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Charged-lodestone-drop-rates-solution/first#post946317
Does this mean that if you have e.g. 1300 in condition damage you get:
Burn damage = (8+(4*328)+(0.25*1300)) = 1645 per second
Poison damage = (4+84+(0.1*1300)) = 218 per second
Bleed damage = (2.5+(0.5*43)+(0.05*1300)) = 89 per second per stack
You get 328+(.25*1300) = 653, 84+(0.1*1300) = 214, and 42.5+(0.05*1300) = 107.5.
I don’t understand the sign and numbering of the icons.
Best disregard the tooltips. In theory, they try to calculate stacks*duration*damage in one fat number.
The wiki say that the duration can be extended only if you get whole seconds.
Eg. If you have 3 seconds of bleed and u get 30% duration you get: (3*30) /1003 = 3.9 sec. But in reality you end up with the same 3 seconds and not more?!!?
But if the bleed was 4 seconds and u got +30% duration, you got 5.2 seconds. In reality you would gain 1 extra second; total 5 seconds. Is that correct?
No.
Extensive testing reveals fractional duration increases result in a proportionate chance for extra damage tick. This is very easily confirmed with 1 sec burn and a veggie pizza. However, many duration increasing effects don’t stack or don’t work at all.
Regarding superior rune of the mad king:
It says +10% condition duration and +15% bleed duration.
Does this mean that you get a total of +25% bleed duration? Since bleed is condition? And does this ad to the +30% condition duration from trait tree? A total +40% condition duration and a +55% bleed duration?
Again, nobody knows what was ANet’s intent; the reality must be tested because so many duration increasing effects won’t stack/work as advertised.
Classes are not supposed to have even or even comparable speed, tbh.
We are supposed to be the second fastest class after thief in ANet’s own words. Presently, we are seventh or eighth.
In what game can $15 buy you full end-game gear?
And you think gold will increase sevenfold? It’ll go up but.. you need to get real.
Read what I said. A full exotics set in GW2 is not in any way equivalent to full BiS end-game HM raid gear in WoW if that’s what you had in mind.
As for the seven-fold increase, I’ll revisit your quote a year from now and we’ll see who was more real.
Jeez…it’s not like they are paid tournaments or something…
OK, on a more serious note, hit GS sword in PvE sometimes and then immediately (while the blade still flies) active an instant racial elite transform like Melandru’s; then observe how the atypical clone behaves…familiar?
(edited by Zid.4196)
The key to understanding gem price is to understand real money price in MMOs. It’s also vital to stop thinking in “September” terms, the launch month was what was, but over the next year gems will reach the equilibrium of what money can buy you in MMOs via legal transactions.
In short, 15 euros or so can buy you the equivalent of a full exotics set in other RMT MMOs; runes, sigils, etc included. Presently, GW2 gem-gold ratio is not nearly high enough to accomplish that. I predict a seven-fold increase in gem price next year to close the gap of what real money can buy you in other MMOs.
Exchanging gold for gems is freaking insane now. Over 2 gold for 100 gems. What happened? This seems pretty unbalanced to me, especially since I hear the gem to gold conversion is also terrible.
Is it? So you are buying gems with real money, aren’t you?
to Purple Turtle.
We all know why.
I’m curious to find out what sigil will increase our damage potential by 30 percent as well.
By 43%, actually. Math takes no prisoners.
So people shouldn’t try to kill thiefs. Unless maybe warriors and mesmers. Thanks for the tips.
Which, incidently, have no AoEs to speak of. Tells you a lot about how successful is ANet with balancing thieves atm.
Dye packs are one of the most lucrative gem items. Forget about it.
Any but you have to follow your markets. So you may as well trade too.
Your timing is just very bad. Recruit when the week is over or while you are winning a game otherwise it seems like a defiant, childish reaction for people.
