Seriously, getting an spvp title is a joke. Getting wvw title is insane grind. Is that fair?
I don’t use moa at all anymore. The only two mesmers I encountered using it, I easily defeated too. Seems like a waste of elite.
Use two accuracy sigils on dual wield, kill 13 mobs; switch to weapons with useful sigils.
OP is a communist.
1,000,000 supply ain’t that much. There are still hundreds of thousand very active players in the game.
They aren’t that great for stats either.
AoE = Area Of fivE.
Next question, please.
The notion that only one out of four items disenchanted by mystic will drop ectos is incorrect. The 25% chance refers to something else.
While I do dabble in some arbitrage, I mostly make my money by mass mystic forging for profit. Some of the ectos people buy have been supplied by me.
In the past two weeks, certain very large inventories used in ecto supply have been depleted. These inventories were creating a temporary drag on the price increase of ectos. With them out of the way, we are about to see the true extend of the recent changes to ecto supply and demand. Buckle up!
People still think wvw is about zergs and giant queues in prime time. This is so last September.
One third of the points in wvw (plenty to decide the winner) are distributed during late night/early morning. That is a time when objectives trade based on fights similar to the spvp 5v5 as far as numbers are concerned. The downed state matters far more than at zerg prime time.
Actually, stability is worse than you think as it now doesn’t protect from pull. That was changed with the Oct 22 patch.
It’s more precise to state the mesmer is now boring in sieges. Yes, well-timed golem portals and time warps are as crucial as ever…if they happen at all in a particular siege. The everyday, bread-and-butter siege experience of the mesmer has been reduced to casting chaos storm every 40ish second…and maybe a wall pull only to watch the defender slip in as the only cc you have left is the sword’s #3 (focus is spent and staff hasnt any).
Burning is a very solid chunk of a full condition (read rabid gear) mesmer damage. I know the condition itself is not as imposing as omg-stacks of bleed and that the damage number gets lost in the flurry of bleed numbers, but don’t be confused.
Here’s a pro tip – price of ori won’t go down.
WvW is not spvp.
If anyone is too concerned about confusion in wvw (laughable but lets play pretend) → buy a minus 40% duration on conditions food unavailable for spvpers → profit.
There’s only one exception, but it is too niche to matter. There used to be another but ANet stealth-nerfed it.
In wvw, there are foods that double downed hps. I’ve fought with guilds running tank builds with this food. Boy, were they annoying!
I wouldn’t call a linear inevitability a “shift”.
PS. About champs: killed dozens in the last days, different zones, land/aquatic; got one rare, no exotic. However, I can confirm players in wvw do drop better now, got one exotic and a couple of expensive cores (just to be clear, that’s out of say a thousand kills).

Buy now or regret later.
Same goes for ectos and gems.
@OP
If you truly felt silver to gems was expensive, you’d be getting gems with RMT and selling for silver.
Moa is useless now.
There’s something more to be considered when choosing to level for WvW. By the time you do, full Exotic sets will be the norm. One exotic set is 6 armor pieces + 5 accessory pieces (not counting back piece) + several exotic weapons. Spice up with 6 exotic jewels for the accessories, 7 possibly expensive runes for the armor+breather, and as many sigils as weapons. This is one set. However, many classes are best served by having 2-3 sets for different setups. I personally have 3 sets + additional harvesting weapons with 25 stack type sigils on my main alone and compared to many wvw players on my server I’m casual (especially the guys with double legendaries).
Gear makes a difference in WvW. Don’t expect to run underleveled and in greens and somehow get the maximum out of your class. Even if you are an excellent player you be doing below the maximum. And if you are about average, like most ppl here statistically speaking (no offense), you’re going to end insta-gibbed many times, and not only by thieves. Some classes are very sensitive to this “maxing out” and don’t really shine before it.
Now, I won’t even go into the can of worms with the gear threadmill we might see implemented which will mean even more grind for wvw. The point is, having an adequate wvw character is a serious investment for casual players. You don’t want to get stuck in a class you don’t enjoy playing.
Hey, look it on the bright side. GW2’s keeps are 1000 times harder to get into than AoC’s ones at launch.
The information in the wiki is wrong. Fractional duration increases the chance for extra ticks. This can be observed on any condition, but is most obvious on a single 1 sec base burning. However, various condition duration enhancers may not stack together as they should, or outright not work due to bugs.
I won’t take a stand on the HB (and if I did it would be slightly out of the warrior’s reach). I do take notice how both sides belittle each other as newbies.
It’s about time we get proper ladders. While not everyone on top would be articulate, there’s bound to be some people who’ll be able to talk and explain nuances in GW2 the way say scarra can do it for LoL.
@naphack: I literally told the same about Ele to a friend who wanted “to play a caster class”. Yet he is not happy now and is about to reroll. Reason: doesn’t match his personal style.
By extension, playing a thief just because of the “faceroll” factor won’t work for people who at heart are something else.
Indeed. Unfortunately, I don’t think Jeff Strain works for Anet in any capacity anymore. That said, the speech he gave is a must-read for mmo devs everywhere.
In WvW, the simple test whether you play well is how you do against your own class.
The advanced test is realizing a 1v1 heavy setup is overkill in all but the most dead hours of the night.
If I had to be fair…then…
…all classes in GW2 are decent to play in WvW. Yes, even Rangers. Thieves, well, you could play them as one trick pony or you could be a lot more. The important thing is to find a class whose style and role fits you.
There are now Rabid trinkets. Rares can be bought at reasonable prices.
Exotic rings and amulet can be bought for highly unreasonable prices.
Exotic soulbound amulet drops in FotM.
Whatever. Just install a Mystic Forge next to the bank and TP in DR.
“And will people please just shut the kitten up about vocal minoritys this and majoritys that. You dont have the numbers Anet has so you aint got a clue. Ur guessing and hoping your right.”
Xfire has successfully trailed numbers for all “western” mmos to date.
Are you familiar with the descriptive term “failcascade”?
1. Skinner box is successful on all mammals, including humans
2. WoW does it way better
3. See what Jeff Strain, ANet cofounder, had to say on this matter http://www.guildwars.com/events/tradeshows/gc2007/gcspeech.php

Meh, even faceroll is too complex for thief. It’s mostly pressing one key.
Osicat, have you tried CoF retaliation trait?
Mimic + Mirror + Focus Reflection + Feedback + Distortion Reflection = best ranged people troll in the game.

There’s no MMO with 100% inflation per month. Yes, people have more gold now. No, this is not the only reason gem price is going up. Prices did not inflate across the board as much as for gems. The gem supply must be very limited, hence ANet’s RMT gains are below expectations at a time when NCsoft and Nexon are looking for results.
While I understand the need for cap, five is an odd number to set. For one, it’s below the spvp max of 8v8. As for wvw, it’s really low.
Working as intended. Nothing to see here, move along.
Revive orbs are not bugs. They are part of the PvE game at the moment. I am glad they don’t work in WvW.
The present ratio reveals that a lot of people grind for gold, while very few buy gems for real money. It’s another sign for Anet’s financial troubles.
If you fail the bombs wow-type dungeons are not for you.
Didn’t read OP too busy stomping 1v2s with my full exotics.
Does phantasm health scale with your own VIT stat? It might make them more worthwhile if you run a high vit tanky build.
No. They are affected by Toughness though.
Some situational awareness is required when full glass.
With Toughness thieves are irrelevant as any other class. Mind you, having the best gear possible makes a difference in WvW.
What can you do? Well, one option is to learn WvW with tanky set – say WvW rares. More tank – more time to get what the heck is going on.
As for countering surprise cc in general you might try the VII talent in the Toughness tree.
Signet is bugged anyway. Trait may be as well.
Increasing chance to hit will help.
It then comes down to a war of attrition and who has the most elementalists on hand who are willing to sit and defend an area for long periods of time.
Everything in WvW is a war of attrition. Everyone hates it too, but those are the rules we have to play by.
Learn from GW1?
Judging by their many inexperience mistakes so far, the devs have not learned from any mmo.
Fix it how? If the champion loot is abnormally high it will be botted. If it is regular champion loot classes who can bypass it and mine the ori will do so as it’s not worth the effort to fight.
