The 5% damage boost works in wvw, but it’s against “monsters” only.
PS. WvW is not competitive. It’s an unfair mode mostly about player numbers.
Basically the game is biased against condition builds.
There’s no Cond-Tough-Vit gear.
The Cond-Tough-Precision gear has no jewelry.
There’s no Cond-Vit-Precision gear.
Unless you consider Healing Power equal to the other stats (I sure don’t) you’re bound to get some power.
Mesmer is getting nerfed next patch.
Desolation EU is an excellent choice for US guilds.
They have to sacrifice their Sleeping Time to do that.
That doesn’t make any sense. Sacrificing sleep time is an onerous feature tolerable only in hardcore games, the ones that come with features as “full loot on death” (and of course no Alt-F4-ing out of death) that have nothing to do with GW2.
Stuck in GW2’s casual WvW, sleep sacrifice is wholly out of place. Here’s your reason why people have been criticizing it since day one. It feels wrong as a tumor would.
putting together dedicated off-peak teams, definitely are “skill” in my book, much more so than individual combat skill and geared up-ness by the players.
Doesn’t take skill to PvDoor. It’s grind.
From there we should launch an operation called “Expose the Elephant”
And Zid: it’s the best WvW we have seen in a while, so I don’t see any reason to call out their designer skills. The biggest issue is only about massive transfers, there is way to fix that, and they are not impossible.
Eh…the last competitor in this exact segment was WAR…so the bar was set pretty low. Mind you, I recognized the option of them being good, but holding strong views in favor of the present scoring system. In fact, this scenario makes fixing nightcapping less likely because they already know your arguments and have deemed them lacking.
Titles in sPvP are so much easier to get it’s not even funny.
3) They are aware and work on fixing it but don’t communicate enough about what they are doing scared that speaking about it too soon ’cause worst troubles than there already is.
Nope.
This doesn’t explain why they created it that way.
It’s really simple. They either understood the synergy and consequences of the scoring mechanic (and were fine with it), or they didn’t.
If they were fine with it despite the downsides they understood, it will probably have to do with entrenched views in ANet’s design team…good luck changing that.
If they didn’t, shellshocked silence is to be expected. However, there’s no reason to conclude that now the design team is experienced enough in WvW…after all I said this is “basic” level of competence in the field for a reason. I haven’t noticed ANet shopping for an experienced mass PvP designer either…so, there isn’t really anyone to “somehow silently develop sweeping awesome changes”.
Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if the largest number of Spanish-speaking GW2 customers is located in the USA (and it’s certainly not in Brazil).
No one knew at the beginning how the wvsw would evolve. Nobody could know that big american guilds would move to europe and destroy the balancing, because….well they have 24 own servers.
Wrong.
While game design is not an exact science or mathematics, it is a study of predictable human behavior similar to the study of economics or politics.
Today we have nearly 20 years of online PvP gaming history: from wotmud to Ultima to DAOC to WAR to EVE to Darkfall to GW2, to mention just a few. Time and again it’s been proven that given certain incentives players will behave in certain ways.
There’s absolutely nothing surprising in the power of nightcapping in this game, it is a natural result of ANet’s scoring design interposed on the human day/night cycle.
Then there’s nothing surprising in certain groups of players moving to exploit the above relation in the most favorable way (and to the detriment of other groups of players).
There are only two possible explanations to ANet’s decision on nightcapping:
1) They are aware of the consequences and are fine with them
2) They are unaware of the consequences because they lack basic competence in this field
In the first case, they won’t change anything unless pressured extensively by public opinion, and maybe not even then, depending on ANet’s middle management policies.
In the second case anything can happen, but chances are on the side of nothing happening. Even if change occurs, it’s a 50-50 tossup of things getting better against things getting even worse.
Commander should have required 10,000 wvw emblems with the option to have up to nine sponsors each offering 1,000 emblems.
1) through 9) – not any earlier than the next paid expansion of GW2.
ANet has inexplicably decided to not monetize WvW, despite the huge number of players. No gems = no support.
WIWith the dominance of range, i’m surprised many people suggest warrior.
Range is not that dominant. Generally, melee does more damage, against more_targets, and doesn’t suffer as much from the horrible GW2 targeting mechanics. Classes like warrior, with their excellent mobility and tank can successfully charge enemy lines.
Besides, warrior is pretty decent at range too.

The way to reduce zerging is to organize. Zergs are moving loot bag trains for organized attackers, doubly so with portal bombing at present rendering issues.
Arrow carts are fine.
IMO even arrow carts above the lord in stonemist weren’t a problem for decent attackers back in the day.
Immobilize outshines stun. Knockdown is entirely another level.
Chaos Storm is a joke for wall supress (as awesome as it is in other situations).
The no-LoS iZerker is all we have.
LOL
Actually, the people against nightcapping want equality, but don’t see it. Why? Well, a player on a low-activity hour is far more valuable than a player on a peak hour. You know it’s true.
It’s the anti-nightcappers who actually defend equality of all players; and it’s Arenanet designers who stand for inequality. Not only that, but ANet is wrongly blaming anti-nightcappers to be in favor of inequality.
Greatsword needs an ethereal field, or at least some field.
They also sent spies to waste supply.
A contested supply camp? Whoa! That’s some serious business!
That should have never been left for a fix.
Europeans…always surprised when the Brits drag the Americans into the war
The #1 server should have the self-respect to not be anyone’s lapdog. Arborstone failed.
I don’t think an English server will make it to #1. The French fight like lions, no way to beat them. It’s no wonder the white lion on white field is the French battle flag.
“So it was nerfed… for the very specific chance you might fight a world boss… that seems… a little ridiculous. Why not just nerf the damage per cond? Or… cap it… or something?”
Capping a damage modifier is a move too arcane for ANet’s designers. It’s so much easier to stick to Design 101 intro handbook and ruin the warlock.
There’s a skill that blocks trebs…FOFY
Desperate Decoy is a well-known bug.
One theory holds it activates at 10%…considering a hit for 11% kills you outright you’d better be pretty tanky.
The other theory holds it activates at 25% but is somehow subject to a hidden internal activation timer, or in other words, bugged the way Signet of Illusions is and therefore borderline useless.
The duelist is bugged, and applies confusion at 100% chance.
How valuable toughness is depends on how much you get hit. In WvW, I don’t see a reason to trade damage for armor or health.
Seriously? Blaming Deso for nightcapping after days of your own nightcapping?
In forum theory.
In practice, they are not a problem. I die less to backstabs than I die to 100b when all my cds are down, and I barely ever die to 100b.
Maybe Im luckier at the pairings than most, but I think it has to do with better positioning. A lot of people really drop the ball at positioning and then blame backstab or moa or whatever, but the fact of matter is they should not have been there at the first place.
I don’t use it in spvp either…I don’t like leaving things to chance, even bad players dodge/interrupt moa accidentally.
staff = spvp
gs = wvw
Mindstab has some uses, but overall in the worst filler in the GS lineup.
Well, I guess I’m the only one who has no problem with thieves backstab despite playing glass.
The Twitch fall makes me sad.
LoL (moba) gameplay is hard to recreate without a top-down camera. The skillrange/hitbox/movement ratio is nothing like GW2’s (or any classic camera mmo). The teamfights require a “at a glance” visibility of your team and the enemy team, which, again, is impossible in GW2.
This is not a secret, any remotely competent esport game designer knows it.
tbh I get bored by 90%+ kill rate even on my mesmer
Having played both GW1 and WoW, I find GW2 to be far more like WoW arena.
Thieves
The rendering issue is insane
You and all the other forum warriors sure will.
Whatever happened to elite skills being the most awesome? So some elites suck. Why not ask for buffs to Basilisk or whatever, instead of asking for Moa nerf?
As for those who think mesmers don’t understand moa; newsflash: mesmers fight mesmers all the time. Moa doesn’t impress me at all when used against me.
LOL
no one would use moa if stunbreaks countered it
I replicated this effect with the human elite Melandru’s Avatar. The clone spawned as a Melandru Avatar, but did nothing.
Don’t rely on phantasms early on.
Don’t forget to get a green sigil of 25 stacks of power or precision.
Is the moa spell a reflectable projectile?
