I just don’t think turning WvW into attrition war of insomnia will do any good to European players or ANet in the long run.
I’m on Desolation myself, and yes we are getting outdone by night cappers. The biggest solution would be to try and set up Night capping guilds on our server to at least try and counter it.
As far as I know, IRON has declared a PvE week for its members, and there isn’t anyone left after recent transfers to stand up late at night for Desolation.
In reality, it’s impossible to setup nightcapping guilds without significant population of people who can stay late often, and by late I mean like 4-5 a.m. Even one hour weak window before the morning shift is enough to lose all your keeps, orbs, upgrades, and siege.
Some think EU countries hit hard by the recession have more unemployed players, but if there was any truth to that we would have a Spanish server on top, and we don’t, in fact I don’t think there’s a high ranked Spanish server at all.
If you have American players, even a small number, they’ll naturally exploit this weak window with gamechanging effect.
Funny thing is, I first heard of letting the three French servers in the top bracket from IRON guys. Maybe Bloodsteel doesn’t know what’s going on in his own guild.
The healing manta doesn’t result in permanent swiftness with Centaur. Its casting time is too chunky.
An event horizon was passed!
Centaur runes + Mirror heal.
Accept the inevitable.
The only way to fix this is to convince some Canadians to move to Augury Rock too.
Then there will be the French-Canadian bracket of VS, AS, and AR; while Far Shiverpeaks/Riverside/Desolation and all of Europe below them will play in peace

It’s outright worse as Magic Bullet CD can be lowered to 20, affects two more targets in rather debilitating ways, and is insta-cast. Oh, and a finisher.
Looks like it’s going to be all-Canada party in top EU bracket soon.
Also, I’m not sure about choosing Desperate Decoy as it either activates significantly below 25% health, or is unresponsive for some reason (say a global timer like with signet of illusions).
@Embolism: you seem to be right. This different distance/different skill is apparently a weak spot for ANet, as the 1200 Blink is usable underwater.

“A multi-projectile finisher has the same effect as a projectile finisher, but only 20% chance of applying the effect; the exceptions are Vulnerability and Confusion, which are 20% both for single and multiple projectiles.”
I don’t consider myself an expert in condition builds (yet), but since you have pistol/ether field/malice, keep in mind that confusion follows different rules when applied by projectile finisher, which is to say, 100% success chance even if the finisher is normally 20%. So the iDuelist will apply 8 stacks of confusion on top of whatever bleeds it crits.
Tests posted on reddit show many of the “on crit” and “on swap” effects share (hidden) internal cooldowns. Limit those to only one of a kind per weapon set, and do not take Rage.
The sigils that stack up to 25 of power, precision, or condition are very good, but you only get to have one stack. It seems to be best to harvest the stack dual-wielding two weapons with two sigils, and then remove the harvesting weapons altogether.
The sigils for +5% damage and +5 crit chance are quite good as well. The damage one is additive to other damage modifiers, and does not stack with itself when dual-wielding. It is unknown whether two crit chance or one crit/one damage stack.
Sigils “on kill” seem to stack without limitations. For instance, over 50 seconds of swiftness have been achieved.
The sigil of strength may or may not be overpriced depending on how many crits you can achieve. As a very rough guide a dps build benefits about 1% from 1 stack of might. A non-dps build benefits more from might stacks, relatively speaking.
The sigil of frailty is an excellent choice for sustained damage when in group with no other way to stack 25 vulnerability (presumably on a boss as everything else will vaporize anyway).
The sigil of air shouldn’t be underestimated and is probably a bargain for crit builds. That said, only ANet knows if an item in the game is underpriced because players have not realized the potential of the item, or because of oversupply due to drops/crafting.
The current system has no mechanics to help a losing team get back in the game. In fact, it has mechanics that favor the leader.
Not having such mechanics is considered poor design even in 30 mins long moba games, let alone in week long matches.
The only explanation (besides ANet devs being very inexperienced which I doubt) is that ANet expected the two losing servers to gank up on the leader.
This rarely happens however as the current ELO system doesn’t take much away for being second (maybe even rewards some?). If we want to see this sort of allying happen, the ELO loss for being second/third has to be the same.
If you’re a 5 man group up against 40 then your AoE hitting only 5 people is the least of your worries.
This is just a simple way of putting a damage cap on AoE which is perfectly reasonable. WoW did the same thing albeit with a different mechanism and no-one felt the need to complain about that.
what happened to you man…
RAISE THE LIMIT I SAY! 50 people stupid enough to group up under my lavafont should die, instantly, also remove the downed state its annoying when trying to take on larger numbers….I CANT FINISH THEM ALL THAT FAST!
BTW, no sarcasm, i hate zergs, they should die by my AOE as they’re inferior life forms, i shouldn’t have to waste as much time as i do in dealing with them.
This reminds me http://www.thenoobcomic.com/index.php?pos=300
how can you stop it? lockouts won’t stop a sffincintly determined player, and that doesn’t even take into account trolls on your own server. how do keep them from sabatoging your suply without limiting ordinary players?
You don’t.
Better get used to spais and saboteurs.
ANet will be smart to limit them ASAP, but there’ll always be determined ones or random griefers.
Basically, a mechanic like this is very interesting, but when a public one, it only works in self-policing communities.
Yeah, but who judges the “effectiveness in the whole contest of every skills’ effectiveness”?
Anet devs? They did their best. They’ll continue to.
Popular QQs on the forums? If the average forum QQ has the skills of the average WvW QQ, I sincerely hope they never get to decide anything concerning the combat system.
Me? Even if I knew everything about the mesmer, and I don’t, I won’t bother leveling all the classes to 80 and equiping them in orange for a balanced WvW comparison.
The only people who might have the right context, and not yet, are the top spvp teams in the world. So when those get proven and have the time to consider countering the seemingly overpowered in the system as is, only then there will be a well judged “effectiveness in the whole contest of every skills’ effectiveness”.
I prefer to be in a competition where everyone is lagging to a competition where some are hacking.

The fact you fail to grasp is this is the mesmer public forum, and when people feel they have something to add to a mesmer discussion, they can do so, and you have to respect their right instead of lashing out in verbal attacks.
Again, if you want to lock a discussion to spvp only, there’s a forum for that, it has plenty of thief-only or whatever-only threads already.
So in a Mesmer specific forum I can’t argue about a Mesmer specific skill’s application because of what?
If this topic is in the wrong section, than it would be moved to the right section by a moderator and, since the topic is still here, it is in the right section. What I’m trying to say is that stating that Moa Morph isn’t that strong in WvWvW and PvE, but it is ground breaking in sPvP, isn’t a valid argument and it doesn’t belong to this topic.
You are welcomed to argue, but you don’t get to silence people by lashing out about “spvp”. As I said, if you want a thread locked to spvp discussion, there’s a forum for that.
And since you are still here, you might as well learn something. In WvW, you are free to change weapons, utilities, and elites when out of combat, and that’s plenty. In the off-peak hours, which are just as important to scoring as the primetime, it’s a standard scenario to notice an opponent with plenty of time to change skills before the 1v1. In these hours when small gank pvp decides the color of the map in the morning, possibly wiping all the hardworking upgrades of the primetime, the Moa is a powerful skill.
But as powerful as it is, it has only mattered in a tiny % of the small gank engagements. The vast majority of the engagements I win because people wouldn’t have the first idea how to fight a mesmer.
I’ve never seen nerf QQ for the #1 reason I win 1v1s, but I once saw a “this is too weak” QQ. The Moa won’t cut into the top 10 reasons I win, and that’s before calculating in its high alternative cost.
Now, maybe everyone in spvp has mad skillz and Moa is your only weakness of your otherwise flawless gameplay of burst/block/reflect/dodge, but I doubt it. The Moa is a convenient scapegoat because it is demeaning, but a scapegoat nonetheless.
The rest of the classes are all useful, and viable, but not gamebreaking. Well thief with a shortbow can bypass terrain at certain area’s (like the west keep cliff) and ninja-kill any siege there, but thats about it.
TBH I’m surprised noone has a found a way to use the mesmer’s sword #3 to get in a keep/tower and portal the zerg.
Who knows, maybe Anet devs truly didn’t mess this one up.
You are talking about PvE and WvWvW, this topic isn’t for you. We are talking about sPvP and in particular about Moa Morph.
This is the Mesmer forum, not the spvp forum. If you have a problem with that, feel free to stick to the spvp forum and not post here.
In fact this topic is about Mesmers, not sPvP in general.
We are talking about Moa Morph (which is a Mesmer skill!) when used in sPvP, which is the only game mode when this skill is going to be used.

One thing I’ve noticed in WvW: 90% of the people approach a 1v1 against a mesmer in a very careless way…of course they end up defeated…and then QQ. They wouldn’t know the first thing about a mesmer, which is the initiation range, but they focus their rage on moa because it adds insult to injury.
I admit I’ve moa’d sure kills just for the humiliation effect; but in a wargame of respawning immortals demoralization is a key to victory.
Anet devs: if you leave too much client side, you’re gonna have a bad time!
And I have to agree that the targeting of GW2 is atrocious.
Well, it all started long ago, when a dude going by Samuel founded a city named Quebec…
I find GW2 spvp too WoW-arena-fied. I don’t mean this in a bad way, WoW arenas are fine, but GW1 was the best spvp ever.
Why am I still here then? I guess I got dragged into WvW.
TBH the stickied list on top of this forum is the answer to your question.
Best night crew in US is HoD. Best night crew in EU is Vizunah Square.
As shocking as it may come, AoE is overrated in WvW. The reason for this is that falling back from combat is fast and easy, and the moment it occurs health restores to full in a couple of seconds.
Classes that have deep strike capability, that is, the capacity to single out a wounded target, down it, kill it, and get away with it, are crucial.
On another note, Shadow Refuge belongs up there with Portal and Time Warp as awesome team skill.
(edited by Zid.4196)
Dixa, you need a new watch
It doesn’t shatter, but it does apply the effects of clone death traits.
LOL
If you only knew.
sword+focus is all about massive close range AoE; staff is nowhere near
The fastest build vs regular mobs is sword+pistol+focus, going max power/crit in everything but 20 points of traits for phantasmal haste.
It’s an excellent skill but it requires pro reactions and knowledge of the other classes.
Mind you, any pro mesmer in wvw/spvp will be using Mirror anyway.
I’d really appreciate if green and red for servers are changed to any other colors.
It’s annoying to see your teammates as green names yet have red doors, and the enemy as red names that have green doors.
The greatest secret of the Mesmer is
that phantasms are DoTs masquerading as summons
sword/GS/focus/pistol are all awesome
You can test distance in the Mists.
Don’t forget to trait for Protection when you have Regeneration.
One of the phantasms procs Regeneration twice as often according to the wiki. Forgot which one.
It’s the server side / 32 bit code that cant utilize your RAM.
I get hit hard from ballistas too but I think it’s fair for 0 extra toughness and cloth armor.
Huh? You’re a Mesmer, learn not to get downed in WvW!
Here’s how I WvW at the moment: all zerk gear; sword/pistol with precision stacking runes, this way each kill nets 2 stacks. When I enter a map I quickly fill it up on mobs. Greatsword with might on crit rune. Finally, the secret ingredient: ghost pepper popper: during the day that’s some extra might; during the night however it’s 50-ish % uptime chill on 1200, can’t be cleansed as it constantly reapplies, can’t run away from it, can’t use skills.
This is how it is:
the damage of the focus will affect the warden; not the sword skills
the damage of the sword will affect 1&2, not the warden
other stats, i.e. power, will affect both
The easiest alleviation is to weigh the scoring by the number of active players (all three servers combined). Can be implemented by Monday.
Your question is too general.
There’s a difference between PvE open world and PvE dungeons. WvW is another thing alltogether.
Deso queues are much shorter than they used to be.
Pls disable the Mesmer skill "Portal" untill you fix the server lode issus
in WvW

and again a game developer proves to little forethought on scaling. by creating a 32 bit game they limited themselves to a very finite and small amount of memory and had to ‘optimize’ model loading. had they just made it 64 bit from the start, they could use as much memory as is needed
A great point.
The first thing about EVE is they have that little mechanic known as Reinforcing, which is in place exactly to counter the likes of nightzerging. Yeah, despite EVE being a global server.
