You think it is easy like that?
How you would determinate who is a very experienced player, and how you would make those types of players test before releasing the update? For example, lets balance the power of a class, that “4” spot would be PvP, PvE or WvW, if PvE it would be open world or dungeon, if PvP it would be sPvP or tPvP, if WvW it would be roaming, zerg?
The theory of balance is much easier than actually balance something, it is a matter of trial and error most of times.
That’s why you make SPvP skills specific to PvP and less PvEish. WvW is just a roaming zerg hell, no point in balancing that to the extent of what SPvP needs.
As long as there is a limit to how a class can perform and all the 8 classes has the same limit. It is balanced. If all classes can perform a maximum of 4, then it’s all good. Of course it’s not easy to get to that spot, but it is possible.
Warrior: Absorb 50% of incoming damage up to XXXX damage. Release the absorbed damage in an AoE.
Elementalist: Lay down a large field of magma and steam. Causes each enemy within the field to take XXXX burning damage each second and give allies 2 might each second. Last for XX seconds.
Mesmer: Link a bond between three enemies. Any damage taken by the three enemies is split between them. Last for XX seconds.
At the moment ArenaNet are balancing very random, they don’t really know where they want their classes to be. They don’t have a “spot” where they feel it’s just right, where they want all classes to be.
When ArenaNet find that spot, they can balance all classes to that spot and it will all be good.
Here’s an example of how it can look. I will measure balance in power and skill.
I———1———2———3———4I
So if you look at this. You want all classes to be able to perform up to 4, if a class can’t perform up to that skill-level, then that class will need a buff. If it’s under 4 in skill-level that is. If a class is above 4 in skill-level, that class will need a nerf.
The final goal is to get the skill-level of all classes to 4. You can’t perform better than 4 even how much you try.
A less experienced player would perform 1.
A medium experienced player would perform 2.
A highly experienced player would perform 3.
A very experienced player would perform 4.
I’d say the population in GW2 is about 250 000-350 000.
20% crit chance and 60% crit damage is not good.
You need at least 60% crit chance if you want to play a crit build.
However if you want to play a hybrid build, i think 40% crit chance is enough. With Fury you get 60%.
Hahaha seriously. You would reskin ugly T1 armor with some sun-glitter?
Warrior: I can do everything!
Elementalist: Make me swap attunements one more time..
It’s the new meta. You may want to change healing skill though, and you might want to have one more stunbreaker.
Ok let’s put it like this.
If a Ranger can be this good by maxing his skills:
———-
A Warrior can be this good by maxing his skills:
———————
And a Mesmer can be this godlike by maxing his skills:
——————————-
It’s not balanced and Mesmer need a nerf or a rework.
All classes should be able to be this good:
————————I
If you cross that line you are OP and need a nerf.
Also, if you are way below that line, you need a buff.
Haha yeah give Mesmers fear and make them even more OP.. Yeah sure.
Nerf Mesmer. Why? They have too many options available to them without sacrificing anything. Other classes will have to sacrifice survival for damage or sacrifice damage for survival. Mesmer don’t have to. They can survive while doing damage.
OP class is OP. Nerf.
This is a dumb idea. Zerkers will be even more glasscannon and not worth playing at all.
It’s not the stats that is the problem, it’s the AI and how the monsters move and use their skills.
Doing something like that with stats would make it unplayable. Zerker is not so good in PvP unless you are very skilled. Why? because players can think unlike monsters in PvE.
I will take the Warrior as an example
I think a bundle of Stances, Shouts and Banners should replace a missing weapon in either the main-hand or off-hand.
So if you’re using Axe in main-hand and you have a bundle of Shouts, then there would be two new weapon skills in your off-hand, those two new skills would be Shouts. So while playing around with a bundle of Shouts in Utility slots you are awarded with Two more Shouts in your off-hand by not equipping a weapon there.
As there is a support shout build, which isn’t that good this could really improve those builds for those players that want a stronger support build.
Pet being bad in large scale is not hard to fix. So how to fix it?
- Pets take XX% less damage from AoEs. I would say something like 75%, because 50% is still too little. Even 80% would be a good percentage.
A lot of mmorpgs has this, why not GW2?
If it’s 80%, that would require 4 AoE attacks to do the same damage as normal.
Let’s say your skill does 5k AoE. 80% of 5k is 4k, so the rest 20% is the damage, so 1k.
So, it would require four attacks of the same AoE to deal the 100% damage. If there are 12 AoEs coming at the pet, that would result in 3 full AoEs.
Pets will still take 100% from single target attacks.

Anyone else had the same issue?
Instead of nerfing they should find a spot where one class feels like it’s good and then they should buff all other classes to be on par with that one class in that spot which feels good. Warrior to me feels good as it is, so they should get other classes on par with the Warrior.
So pretty much what you want with this build is.
- 100% crit chance.
- Stack might.
- Stack fury.
- Stack Vulnerability.
- Stack bleeding.
- Use Eviscerate to nuke.
- Use Final Thrust under 50% hp to finish.
- You have two blocks.
- One ranged which add some torment.
- Movement skills removes immobilize.
- You can cripple.
- Stun with Shield Bash.
- Savage Leap and Shield Bash to leap away or at your target.
- One Stunbreaker which gives stability and also swiftness.
First screen is the name of the shield and the second screen is 888 shards of zhaitan.
Haha nice! never seen that stranded whale before
There’s something under LA or she wants something in LA. This thing she needs is to awake whatever monster she saw within the Omadd’s stuff thing.
Getting stuck in the statuary when it gets destroyed, when up on the cannons. Why? this was in beta testing, some people should have reported this glitch.
21k for a pair of boots? Wow ArenaNet.
I placed an order for a weapon skin for 30g on the TP. I noticed i only got 111g in my wallet and i had about 142g before. So does the TP take my gold i bid? and can i take back my bid and get my gold back?
Edit: Ah nvm, i found it! it was under My Transactions and Items I’m Buying. There it can be removed.

If someone skips an event or boss in a dungeon those people should be killed by something natural. Like in AC, if you skip troll, the roof will crumble and fall on everyone and punish you. In Arah, if you skip a boss or event, a Dragon Champ will come down and eat you. Etc.
The finest weapon skins ArenaNet have released. I bought the shield right away. Had a ticket in my bank.
I love these new weapon skins. One of the finest skins ArenaNet have ever added. Have one ticket, so bought the shield for my Male Sylvari Warrior. I look fabolous!
They used Tier 3 armor and added some magma on them. Not ok.
Should at least had used Tier 5 or 6 armor sets.
Get a lot of MF and run champtrains and run dungeons.
Doesn’t help!!!! RNG is broken! It favours some and completely ignores others.
Well, yes. Precursor has a very small chance to drop. MF does increase the chances though. Yes, some are very lucky. They should make some kind of long quest-chain or missions.
Get a lot of MF and run champtrains and run dungeons.
Well, it is as you have said. The helmet fits with some armour sets/pieces, but it doesn’t really fit with the shoulders or gauntlets. The gauntlets and shoulders are much bigger in comparison to the very slim helmet. If you look at the other set, molten, all the pieces look similar to each other.
The point of this thread is. If you’re going to release a set of items, you should make them look like they fit each other.
This is how my Warrior in SPvP looks.

Dhuumfire change is the worst change ever. They only look at one build and change a Grandmaster trait for just that one build. Some choices the people at ArenaNet does, you may think they want us to use 1-2 builds for each profession. Engineer got a lot of good builds though and are mostly OP in PvP.
I know it’s tough to balance both PvP and PvE, but still, if they want us to play different and use all classes in both PvE and PvP they will have to stop nerfing too hard, and instead opening up new ways to customize your build.
The current Trait System is limiting enough. The best way to really make the Trait System worth gold is to add another Trait Panel with Weapon Traits only to let us customize how our weapon skills work.
- Class Traits
Customize your class. (Utilities, Elite,Healing skills, Passive effects etc)
- Weapon Traits
Customize your weapon. (Change effects of a skill to another effect etc)
An example would be the Necromancer staff skills. You want more CC, so you add Chill and Fear to most of your weapon skills, BUT, those skills that didn’t have any effect will get reduced damage, or if that skill had poison before it might do a bit more damage or get reduced/increased cd.
Play the way you want.
That burning damage will be nerfed though. The build looks really good actually, but if you compare it to a Warrior or Guardian dps, it’s not very good, PvE wise. As your build is about doing damage while staying alive it works well in PvP situations.
Do you mean what they are making for China launch? optional VIP membership that unlocks stuff from the gem store. As long as it’s optional it will work. No one want to be forced to pay a sub. WoW are losing a lot of subscribers since a few years back and they keep losing them, plus they are adding a in-game cash shop.
I’m pretty sure all mmorpgs will have optional subscription in the future.
On Topic: Yes i would pay a sub, as long as they make it worth it.
I’d like some armors from Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, but of course better and more professionally handcrafted.
A quest through Tyria sounds way better than crafting. Crafting in GW2 is not fun. Crafting in GW2 is a grind.
Elementalist is not the strongest but it’s still strong. Elementalist got the most combo fields and is why every speedrun party want one in their team. Warrior, Guardian, Elementalist. All you need to speedclear dungeons. Sometimes Mesmer is good.
Dhuumfire change is the worst change ever.
It would be nice with different skins for pet that are rare, exotic, legendary. For both Ranger, Necromancer and Guardian.
Why would it get removed?
This helmet looks really bad. The shoulders and vambraces looks really good, but god, the helmet looks like i don’t know. Make something more fitting please. It would be nice to have more radiance on my body. Currently i use other helmets, but sadly they don’t radiate glow.
I bet the feature update is freaking huge and i think some of the teams are working on the first expansion.
Dhuumfire is getting a HUGE nerf. Not worth playing a hybrid Necromancer build anymore…
…that is limiting it to certain builds.Oh no! Now necros have to sit in DS for a couple of seconds to proc dhuumfire! Life blast does terrible damage and never crits!
Seriously though, its not as bad as you think. The change actually favors hybrid builds. You will not be forced to play a DS build, instead life blast a couple of times and there you go.
Adapt or die.
No it does not favor hybrid builds. The change makes build diversity extinct.
I don’t use Death Shroud (Life Blast) to do damage in my build, so no i can’t adapt to it, i have to scrap my build and make a new one.
It’s wrong to change a Trait from being a passive activation on all skills to only being for Death Shroud (Life Blast). Imagine how many builds with Dhuumfire who got screwed over and kittened in the kitten .
Simply put, if you have a handful of skills, and you want to balance them, you have two choices:
1) Buff up EVERY OTHER skill… oh, and re-balance everything else in the game so that it remains at the level of “difficulty” you want.
OR
2) Nerf the handful of skills you have deemed out of balance.
100% of game developers will (and should) use option #2. Deal with it.
All they have to do is reduce time/damage of Dhuumfire and don’t move it over to Death Shroud. Still not OP with the damage it has now, but nerfing it like that(moving it to Death Shroud) and making it useless to a lot of builds is not the right way to do it.
Pretty sure his response was addressing the “OMG STOP NERFING ANYTHING EVER” argument, and not the validity of the dhuum nerf specifics.
Yes i know. But if they are going to nerf Skills/Traits that are assumed to be OP or that are OP, they will have to Nerf the Stats, Not the Effect of it. Some builds will be pretty much ruined and some builds will be affected very little.
Like with this change. Death Shroud builds will be very effective while other builds with Dhuumfire that don’t depend as much on Death shroud will be worse and not as useful. Which is a very dumb change if you want more than 1-2 useful builds for a class.
Simply put, if you have a handful of skills, and you want to balance them, you have two choices:
1) Buff up EVERY OTHER skill… oh, and re-balance everything else in the game so that it remains at the level of “difficulty” you want.

The best teamwork you will get in GW2 is: “Hug wall and AoE. Only Warriors, Guardian and Elementalist”
I remember a time when Necros didn’t even have that trait and got by just fine and dandy. The change makes using DS more important as a condition necro, which has always been underwhelming on a condition build. At least they didn’t remove it completely.
All builds don’t use Death Shroud in the same way. Different builds use Death Shroud for different purposes. Changing the Grandmaster trait like this is the worst change ArenaNet have ever done to a class.
It was: Choose how you want to play.
Now it is: Play like this or suck it.
Made this build for PvE Necromancer. Might work in PvP also.
Good anime but the song sucks.
