More Modern Pistol Skins!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zorby.8236

Zorby.8236

The majority has a cowboy style cylinder to hold ammo, if anything at all.

What? There are like 3 revolvers in game…Aether, Ascended and Chaos. And no, I do not count each ascended revolver as it’s own, they’re recolorations (some have minor tweaks, so generously 5-6). That does not constitute a majority.

So the only modern looking pistols are the Pact handgun (chaos gun shares same skin), Guild quick shot, Glyphic/Dark asuran pistol(but they are huge) and perhaps fractal pistol. A pretty small choice, compared to the options of old fashioned pistols.

+ Legionnaire, Vigil, Inquest/Mystic (it does indeed have a hammer in the side like a flintlock, but looks very modern), SAB supers, Lovestruck, Pact Fleet, Peacemaker, and maybe Krytan.

Thats why I would like to see a bigger choice!

Although I am not disagreeing to this! Always support more options.

In my opinion GS outdamages LB as burst-starting-weapon because:
- Longbow Rapid Fire has a cast time of 2,5s. In this time you can throw out a Maul (With guaranteed crit if Opening Strike), and Slash+Kick from sword AA. This in combination results in a higher dps.

To be fair, they’re pretty equivalent. If we go after the numbers on wiki, and coefficients per seconds. I get the following numbers:
GS:
Throw(can be done on approach at no loss)→swoop→maul~=1.08-1.47 depending on how swoop behaves.
Only Maul=2

LB:
Barrage→RF=1.8
Only Barrage=2.13

So pretty much a toss-up

- It is multiple targeted. This lets you hit multiple enemies with your maul. Rapid Fire is only 1 target.

Irrelevant on bosses.

@OP, so it went from

Also, no. The meta build does not do more damage on it’s own. With support from the rest of the group it does, on it’s own it does not.

Yes, the meta is meta for a reason. It does it’s job. But it’s boring and I thought I’d share a different way to play my favorite profession that I’ve logged so much time in to.

Lol, alright well you guys have fun then I guess. I like to put some thought in to my builds, experiment with them a bit and see how things go, instead of just picking up the same build everyone uses and turning my brain off.

I pity the people who are too afraid, or perhaps too stupid, to explore other possibilities..

By all means, but as I said, you’ll have to back it up, then maybe it would be easier to swallow.

I was hoping this could turn in to something other than me raging at people but since the very first reply was the same meta crap that you can find on a dozen different sites with only organized groups in mind I got a little upset…

LOL. Awww, did we not praise you for your ingenuity and so? Barring untraited frost spirit your build is ok for pugging, does that make you feel better?

cornering alpha makes it not do several attacks like the teeth of primordus. It does have a use.

No, that’s if everyone stands on him (stacking if you will), But there’s no need for a corner…Cornering pretty much only matters if:
a) You can take advantage of the wall somehow
b) To LoS large amounts of mobs

There are now very few bosses in the game that are worth cornering/walling, and in most cases just stacking on top of the boss is faster. But I guess it takes some time for that to catch up among pugs.

I also try to convince that GS is better than LB.

That actually depends on some factors. If you run an easy dungeon with a competent team the Longbow is the better option as it’s burst is stronger and it stacks initial cripple for your predator’s onslaught. For less than fortunate teams or harder content the utility that Greatsword provides can outshine the Longbow. There could also be other consideration to be made of course such as:
sword/torch + sword/warhorn (might and fury without sacrificing sword auto or a utility)
sword/axe + sword/dagger (more dodges, ie more defensive, without sacrificing the sword auto)
And well, you get the picture.

[SUGGESTION] Clothing Tonics into Outfits?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zorby.8236

Zorby.8236

The main issue with this suggestion is that some clothing items were individual pieces and not entire outfit sets.

This part of the argument falls flat when you realize that each individual piece that was converted to a tonic was paired with some “standard” items and that in their current tonic form is no different from an outfit except for the fact that they are tonics. There is no reason why they can’t take the current tonics and straight up convert them to outfits (barring any technical issues).

[…]people will have only criticisms to make.

Criticism isn’t necessarily bad.

Your build has trap traits, why? That flame trap isn’t going to do a whole lot of damage…

Next, use “Barrage”. Swap to Sword/Warhorn to gain might via battle sigil.

No Rapid fire? Apart from not being known to stack might pugs aren’t known to stack vulnerability (vuln). With 10 stacks of vuln the entire party dps goes up 10%, that’s pretty significant.

You have successfully built nearly 25stacks of might without the help of others.

On yourself, your group will have gotten 3-6, much useful.

You have also provided the group with additional damage via Frost Spirit[…]

Which would be more useful if spirit had the full 7%, I know you suggest to take it instead, but it should really be mandatory.

Flame Trap is extremely useful for might[…]

yes

[…]and burning.

no

Strength runes may be a better choice than Ranger runes.

No, Strength runes matter only to classes that stack might(on others), PS warrior, ele, or (and not recommended) Engineer.

In Crucible Of Eternity for stacking Alpha in the corner on his first encounter is probably one of the only times it may be necessary.

Why would it be necessary to corner him? You can’t FGS anymore…this pug mentality…

The rest, while I may not agree on all points, isn’t exactly wrong.

I guess I should have mentioned then that this is with PUG’s in mind not “experienced” groups.

Fair enough, but yeah, that should have been said from the start.

Also, no. The meta build does not do more damage on it’s own. With support from the rest of the group it does, on it’s own it does not.

Prove it. I’m not saying it’s wrong or right, but prove it. With numbers, with video evidence etc. If you wan’t to convince people you’ll have to go there.

How it happened for me and a guildie today. He was solo queue-ing, I joined his party and he left queue. We reentered queue, and the game gave me some “can’t join queue” message (I don’t remember the exact words). Then he got a pop up and joined a match, solo, with me still in party. After that match queue-ing worked perfectly fine.

being top pts on ur team, helps you on rank?

in PvP

Posted by: Zorby.8236

Zorby.8236

I mostly run around back capping unguarded points because everyone else is playing TDM on mid, so my score is usually low.

And on your question, from the wiki:

Rank points are earned at the end of a match and are based on whether your team won or lost. Matches that last shorter than average will yield proportionally less points. The number of points earned further depends on the type of match played. Additionally, being auto-balanced provides you with an additional 25 rank points, and each top-stat you earn gives you another 5.

If we’re talking about unranked Arena (which I think we are) losses award something like 300 (wins 1k) rank points, so you do get more, but not much. (provided it uses old solo queue values, which I think it does or closely does.)

Wait? Or do you mean ladder position? Well I don’t know about that…but I think only match won/lossed (and hidden values and stuff, point is, no top scoring) matters there. I may be wrong on that one though, but even if I am I would assume it would have as negligible impact as on rank points.

Also…

[…]I’m stuck getting worst, and worst team partners[…]

[…]but due to some unexperienced partner[…]

[…]keep putting me against premade teams

So, isn’t exaclty “My fault” that I have more losses than wins[…]

That’s a lot of excuses…

As long as I remember to keep ’em stocked yeah, always embarrassing not having them.

SE : Potion of Dredge slaying and Potion of inquest slaying will work here. Its a bit trickier here since enemies alternate between the two. Path 1 will be Inquest all the way, while Path 3 will be mostly dredge, except of the final boss which will need a potion of destroyer slaying. I don’t use the destroyer potion since its only for 1 fight. Path 2 I think its mostly dredge, but I don’t do this path often so I’m not sure.

It’s Dredge up until the last boss (duo golems) which are inquest, the most mileage you’ll get out of potions in SE is doing paths 3-2-1.

This "Meta" has to end

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zorby.8236

Zorby.8236

Zerker meta is caused by one and only thing, absence of essential “roles” in PvE, aka trinity or similar system.
So until the game gets total overhaul, there will be zerker meta. Anet is clearly ok with that, so there’s no way to change that.

tl,dr: take it or leave it.

Why do you bring a Guardian in a dungeon? Because you need him to protect your team with blind, aegis, reflection, protection so the team will be able to stay alive longer.

Why do you bring a Warrior in a dungeon? So he can provide offensive buff to the whole team and boost their dmg with banner, empower allies, vulnerability, might, etc.

Why do you bring a Elementalist? For its dps, Ice Bow, Might Stacking, Vulnerability.

Why do you bring a Thief? So he can use its stealth for runs, for the blinds, for the single target dps.

Why do you bring a Mesmer? So he can use its utility like portal to move the team faster or reach certain spot, or use its reflection.

Why do you bring Engineer? Because he can give crazy vulnerability and a bit of everything, making the perfect swiss knife.

Why do you bring Necromancer? Well tbh, you don’t bring a Necromancer

Maybe these are not role you would like, but these are role. As a guardian in my party, I know what my job is and people expect that I do my job.

And we’re not even going to mention Rangers.

I will agree with one statement the OP made in his analysis.

“That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and enjoyed it.”

I have always wondered about why people want to turn a game they are currently playing into one they left behind. If you left a game behind then it obviously lacked something that your new game has and whatever game element you left and now want in the new game was not a strong enough game element to keep you there.

So, the previous MMO I played had some things (for want of better word) I really did enjoy. Do I think I can get some of those ideas into GW2? No, they’re fundamentally too different. Would I try if I think it would mesh? Hell yes! I didn’t leave my previous game because the positives were too weak compared to other games. I left because the negatives were starting to really overshadow the positives. That’s just my reason though, I’m sure other people have their various reasons for leaving their previous game/MMO.

It’s not really a secret that it’s set up like this because ANet wants you to buy more from the gemstore…That said they’ve been much cooler about this than they get credit for. What with all/most gemstore items being account wide (gathering tools used to be soulbound), the wallet (freeing up much space in bank and making karma/gold management way easier), wardrobe so you don’t have to hold on to excessive amounts of gemstore skins (again saving space), minis and dyes made account wide so you don’t have to buy duplicates, ascended/legendary gear being account bound rather than soulbound, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, I would like to see more stuff become account wide (I’m looking at you bag slots), but there’s just so much ANet can cut into their profit. And $ rules, so I doubt it’ll happen until the amount of unsatisfied customers starts to threaten sales too much, or the change is projected to increase profits.

Spotter is about the last thing I’d drop for more condi removal. You already have Survival of the Fittest with 2 Survival skills and Healing Spring, how much more could you need? You have points into Nature Magic but no traited Frost Spirit…let alone any Frost Spirit. Keen Edge sucks. And what the H is Signet of the Hunt doing on your bar? I’ve seen worse builds though and my recommendation:

  • Drop Signet of the Hunt and replace with Frost Spirit
  • Replace either Strength of Spirit or Two-Handed Training with Vigorous Spirits
  • Replace Keen Edge with Steady Focus

Those are the most glaring issues, otherwise it’ll do.

Nope, evade on auto attack in one of the least important things about gs. Control over your character, skill 4, Burst with Maul, 3 for moving about, all trumps it.

I switch to SB for single targets

Fair enough, though you could just stay on GS since it’s roughly the same dps.

My build focuses more on survival while still maintaining a shred of offensive power.

There is not a shred of offensive power here, don’t fool yourself.

I’ve solo’d many dungeon bosses/mobs after the rest of my party wipes.

So?

I’ve tried ranger sword a few times and died constantly even with this build so needless to say i hate sword.

Try a more zerker-y build with GS instead then? It’s “only” around 15% dps loss (comparing full zerk). My personal minimum requirements when pugging Rangers is:

  • Has traited Frost Spirit
  • Has Spotter
  • Primarily a mix of Zerker/Knights
  • Uses primarily a melee weapon (Sword or GS)
  • Does not use Bear

That’s a possibility but for me, with an excellent internet connection on both my EU and NA accounts the time between the point and the shot is literally 2 seconds.

You count fast, unfortunately seconds are a universal standard so even if you count really fast instant (for the sake of practicality) is still instant and not 2 seconds.

With that said, they might as well remove agony as a mechanic because having a mechanic like AR is pointless when the bosses are so OP all of her attacks are one shots. No class has that many dodges and blocks and invulnerability.

scratches head

My ele has that many. Warriors and Guardians too. Mesmers have multiple, more than I can count. Engis and thieves might have a rough time but rangers and necro are the only class I can see that doesn’t have as much access as the rest and I could be wrong about ranger… I don’t really play mine.

I’m sure you have the best intentions and all but I can tell you my information is completely accurate. I’m not a scrub and I’m not exactly a fractal casual, I pretty much live there nowadays.

Ranger does have a block on his greatsword. Necromancer gets shafted as usual.

Might be a bit late for this, but additionally you can use axe off-hand and easily trait for signet cd and signet of the beastmaster and slot signet of stone. You can take all of them, forsake any ranged option and easily take 7 shots in a row, gs→axe→gs→sig→gs→axe→gs.

1) Ranger is not much of a might-stacking class so Strength runes aren’t terribly helpful for them.

And? Can still use Scholar/Ranger…

So basically what I’m saying is that the 10-12% party DPS boost that a FS/Spotter ranger gives isn’t worth suffering the personal DPS loss. Just to keep things really simple, a 4war/1ele group would output 53k sustained DPS (15k + 9.5k x 4) versus a 4war/1ran group outputting 50.5k (10.5k x 4 + 8.5k). And that’s assuming 100% uptime on the Frost Spirit and the ranger’s pet.

3War/1Ran/1Ele beats 4War/1Ele though. Sure, Rangers aren’t in the most optimal comps, but there are worse comps not including Ranger as well.

i rarely even see those two classes using these abilities and i rarely see ranger running dagger.

Speaking from a PvE perspective. Dancing Dagger has it’s uses when you are forced out of melee, and especially in high level Fractals. The cripple is also very useful on Mossman and Archedeviner. Ranger PvE does not have much use for dagger, mostly there are more attractive options (warhorn/axe) whilst Thief D/D is one of their main sets.

Gathering from what I’ve heard/read about PvP D/D Thief is very risky so not run that much. However Dagger on Ranger is more useful, both for the cripple and evade (it’s a long evade).

i just dont see why there is this kind of skill difference to basically the exact same ability. sure make them different but this is weird…

Well ye :p They’re not the same, just similar.
