For PvE yes, my pet feels so near sighted -.-
For PvP no! I agree it’s silly to be able to send your pet to mid while holding home.
Wasn’t there talk about more PvP/PvE splits? Or does this not apply to rangers?
cough Mesmer Illusions split cough
The mechanically moving (animated) blade on the Aetherblade sword is the most ridiculous and ineffective-looking weapon I have ever seen. Thumbs down on design.
Right? WERE! IS! MY! RAPIER?!
(required caps, and I held down the shift as well, so you know I’m vexed)
I’m not a hardcore player (I have ~800 hours played sinced release), I don’t play the TP, I don’t farm CoF : I just play the game normally, doing what I feel like to do whenever I feel like to without considering too much the reward. But, honestly, since release I guess I’ve earned already a couple thousand gold (without even being extremly lucky on drops : no precursor).
900 hours, five alts, four rare sets and one exotic set to my name, fourty gold in the bank.
What am I doing wrong?
I get the point (s)he’s trying to make, gold comes rather easy. But (s)he’s exaggerating, there’s no way to make that gold without either: farming, flipping or being extremely lucky. I note though that it says “no CoF farming”, doesn’t say anything about trading your soul to Zhaitan and living in Orr Or if (s)he only logs on for dungeons, and logs off during down time to save hours :p
@OP You have got to be kidding me? Gold comes easy. I don’t farm or flip and play as I wish. Some days I get 1g, other days I get 10g, depends on how may dungeon runs or lucky drops I get. 20 mins for cof1? Ok I get you wanna play as you wish, that’s cool. But you don’t get to complain about not raking in as much as serious farming runs then!
T3 cultural is supposed to be a “high-end-not-obtained-by-anyone”-skin, and everyone is capable of getting it!
Worth it? What am I going to do with 1 guaranteed crit?
Not a single nerf and some very welcome buffs…someone pinch me.
Would it be inappropriate?
Yes, it ain’t even appropriate in it’s own context
Am I one of only an extremely few that wants this?
Yes…
- Using high ground to get easy attacks on a melee class, letting them get the high ground and shooting them, making them chase me in circles without getting hit.
I like where he complains that rangers just dance around and then proceeds to tell us high level thief play is to…dance around. I don’t even know where to begin.
Fortunately for you, no one even has to read the original post to answer the question.
This isn’t a Quiz, there is no right answer. Rangers I talk to in-game seem really pleased with their performance even tho I’m quietly unimpressed when I watch them face more difficult areas of the game.
Fascinating, but I never mentioned any of this, so I don’t know why you’re telling me.
But I respect them all the same and I don’t tell them they’re “doing it wrong” like you just have
I was talking about your reference to the Extra Credits video…I don’t know how I could’ve made it any clearer. The video makes no sense in the context of the discussion…And that’s the problem, people just link EC to seem smart or whatever, and they always fail to be relevant. I haven’t told a single Ranger or anyone else they’re “doing it wrong”.
And with regards to the title question. No prof is hard to learn…the only ones that think any prof is hard are the ones playing it, I guess they need some reckognition.
I love when people refer to extra credits completly wrong. To date I have yet seen a single reference that made sense.
(Disclaimer: I will use the alternative names for secondary attributes, deal with it, they sound way better)
I don’t play WvW so I may be wrong. But Soldiers with a little Clerics seems bad. In my experience Compassion only works if you stack a great deal of it. Let’s say for power full clerics. In that gear you’ll survive, but won’t hit for much. For rangers Compassion works best together with Malice. I’d say for power you’d might be better of in a berserker+knights setup.
I abondened hope long ago, saves me a lot of anguish.
- you are throwing away a lot of potential damage because you don’t get the boons, buffs from your group, because you’re 1200-1500 units away from them
- you are also throwing away potential damage potential of your group, because they can’t benefit from “spotter”, spirits.
While yes this is true, this isn’t really the fault of players wanting to stay ranged, it’s a design flaw. If party support was actually group support and not just support to whoever happens to stand next to you this wouldn’t be an issue. Also saying range flat sucks because of the lower dps is disregarding other factors.
@OP, if you like traps and condis then go for it. There’s nothing wrong with having 1 condi player in group, the problem is multiple condi players (as they compete for condi cap).
[…]and phrases like Zorby’s “this is such a 1st world problem” come across as very demeaning to the person who has to live with it.
I feel I should clear something up. It’s not the phobia I’m calling a 1st world problem, I know what a phobia is. I was referring to this suggestion of making the game “phobia friendly”. Seriously, in the end it’s only a game, it’s not something he has to live with. There are also other phobias. Bees, Snakes, Water, etc. Quickly gets out of hand…
I want to sympathize, I once unintentionally sent an arachnophob into a panic attack talking about spider. But really this is such a 1st world problem…
I agree with above speaker, let him use the game to gradually overcome his fear, support him/her!
A solid NO! from me. Apart from WvW matchup servers or shards or whatever is stupid, an outdated setup from the time when it actually meant you played on a specific server.
I farmed the **** out of MF, and even though I was tired of it after 40+ runs I still like it. Now that it’s been a while and there’s no farming it it’s going to be a nice addition. Same goes with AR. I only hope they keep the interresting parts and skip all the trash mobs :p
So 2 Medium sets (Stalwart, Commando) and 2 Light sets (Rubric, Masquerade) in PvP are missing from PvE. Which are the 2 Heavy Armors? (curious as I don’t have any heavy char). Also PvE Masquerade is missing in PvP no? Head’s a bit still but does that mean 1 Medium and 1 Heavy PvE sets are missing from PvP as well?
But to the point, all sets should be available in every mode!
Note that there are 2 Masquerade sets, 1 in PvP and 1 in PvE.
How many times do we have to answer this? Yes, in a sense yes it’s working as intended. Sword auto chain includes 2 short leaps, all leap skills lock you in animation. Can you dodge in Swoop? RTL? Is it bad design? Possibly, but then what isn’t to Rangers.
3/10
Trolls have already done this topic, step up your game son!
Unless you’re wearing a full MF set and farming Orr (in which case you’d pick magic infusion) your best bet is gilded.
[…]with a new exp we would get a new race, new class, new gameplay mechanics, and probably Cantha or Elona to explore[…]
Any source on that? Did they say anything like:
In an expansion we would’ve added races, professions and new areas, but we did this instead.
Nope, don’t think so. It’s all player speculations. Can you be sure that in an expansion we wouldn’t have gotten exactly this, just clumped into 1 day?
Why discuss one or a few traits when our entire tree needs a good overhaul anyway?
[…]so if you wanted it to be a question and add a question mark to the end, then it might end up ending in both period and a question mark.
Well, even if the character is wondering the chat will state what (s)he does. A statement never ends with a question mark.
On Topic, yes to more emotes! Some of the ones I most miss are:
/kiss
/hug
/boast
/lick
Non yet. But both gw2skills and intothemists keep fairly up to date, so give it some time and maybe.
I’ve done like no WvW and I now have well enough for the gift. While I won’t say no to free badges I too was pretty amazed at this decision. Now I definetly have no reason to go WvW, and they’re trying to get people out there…But then I thought, if you hand out some freebies some people will buy some stuff, wet their apetite. They’ll run out of badges and need more…Admittedly, it’s a silly reasoning but it’s the only plausible :p
No channeled kill shot, not impressed.
Petrify is like the only effect I try to get from those boxes
(I can’t recall, you can get big as well right? That’s the other I hunt.)
So how does one build a support ranger?
Equip Healing Spring, congratulations, you’re now support ranger.
No but seriously, all power to you if you want to try support ranger, but there are other profs suited far better for support.
It’s practically same thing as nothing. They hype all these awesome rewards when in fact it’s nothing.
The rewards are awesome lol…Dunno what you play. So many WvW Badges, Mystic Forge Stone to make Mystic Slavage Kits, Boosters that may be Karma ones, Random CS convenience items (canisters, bank access), 1 gold in each chest, Reusable skin of your choice, and the acc bonuses (gold and karma are the ones of interrest, mf’s been useless anyway). That isn’t nothing…
5/8 so far.
- Ranger was super easy, nothing much to say
- On Elementalist I shafted myself and played with staff, so that one was on me.
- Thief was medium, some things where more difficult.
- Mesmer, as said before, it’s hard up until 40. After that it does a 180 and is medium to easy.
- Engineer I thought was easy, got a lot of nifty tools at your disposal.
Currently leveling Guardian, but at level 10 only, so can’t say. It’s supposed to be easy anyway :p
I don’t know whether to laugh or feel sad about this thread.
As a PvE player:
The lack of a “safety net” is not what’s putting me off. It’s more a combination of different things.
Repair cost:
Fine, it’s not much. But In WvW I’m expected (and expect to) die a lot of times.
Keeping up with the zerg:
Even if you’re with the zerg, if you’re at the end you could loose out on a lot action.
Roaming:
Suddenly finding yourself in the middle of an enemy zerg isn’t fun. This was a problem with culling, it is fixed now but the memories persist :p
Movement:
If you die you have to run from home base every time, so much wasted time traveling, and boring to boot.
Builds:
Builds for PvE and WvW are not the same, and it’s terribly annoying to respec all the time. I urge ANet to look at Rift. Their “roles” and “wardrobe” system is nice.
Personal reward:
PvE does this way better.
Team rewards:
What does taking a tower mean? That you can pump out your guild buffs from it? How exciting.
What does capping an entire boarder lands / battlegrounds mean? Nothing. Maybe if a full cap meant 30 min lock or something, something that was tangible.
The minor buffs to PvE play is so insignificant, it’s not like I look at the tower symbol and go “holy smokes, +10% for additional harvest, time to chopping!”
BUT! Maybe most of these that are issues for me is what makes it fun for other people? And neither of us would be wrong. But WvW is fun for them and PvE is fun for me, so I’ll just stay in PvE.
Thing is, one dye section on the piece could cover both metal and cloth etc. Also, 2 leather pieces can be dyed very differently. For your particular problem, I’d suggest finding a darker dye for the metal part. Use all available tools. TP, google etc. Here’s a dye chart (uncomplete, missing some rare dyes I think).
I’m all up for ANet giving more rewards to 50/50 Hom…in GW1, because that’s where you earned it.
Also, claiming to deserve more when no one else thinks you do and you see no problem with it, is like the very definition of entitlement -.-
(edited by Zorby.8236)
Takes me back to a time when I actually had hopes. I’ve just accepted we’re staying as is.
Ranged can be kind of risky in this game as well with reflect and bosses targetting far of players etc, but whatever.
I agree, generally you’d like to run 1 ranged and 1 melee. As for choice of melee it’s up to you. Sword does more damage, but can be difficult to control and a terrible on retaliation. GS is a “safe bet”, you maintain control and have evasion on auto which makes encounters way more forgiving.
Jokes on you, 4 kills would’ve been super easy and require no effort or time at all. One might wonder why you just didn’t do it in the alloted time…
In any case, have you checked the Not so Secret jumping puzzle?
Honestly…at this stage I don’t feel we need even more particle effects.
Clenching your hand over your chest is more symbolic than covering your eyes from the sun in my opinion :p
I don’t think Ranger is all doom and gloom as some poeple like to herrald. If you play good you can contribute, likewise any other profession played badly doesn’t contribute
That is not to say we don’t have some glaring issues, and ANet seems to like handing us the short stick. Having played Ranger, Elementalist, Thief and Mesmer; Ranger is still the profession I feel most comfortable in.
I don’t know about full localization, but at least most major scripts should be supported.
Some servers seem to keep the temples open, I guess for shards and karma gear. Other than that I see no reason to visit Orr. It’s unrewarding, a nightmare to traverse, and so bland on enemies…
Order of Whispers base of operations in DR is likely Maiden’s Whisper
It’s a crying shame really, next set of armor will be in gamble boxes I guess
Judging by the fact that a new thread for this topic is created every day…yes, you’re alone.
Oh…We’re taking this discussion out of ranger boards (yet again)?
Supporting this 100%!
Could’ve used this a while ago, bought Krytan set and only saved the top, threw the rest away as I can’t be bothered with skulls :p
Can confirm it very much still works, Priory character rocking Vigil boots. Costs 2 crystals though (Also possible with starting gear). I don’t have a source, but I recall seeing ANet having no problem with the possibility…
Ah, fair enough. As a light cultural I’ve not noticed that issue, does seem odd.
