The only way they could start making toughness/vitality pertinent is adding events where it’s required or your team wipes. IE, if you don’t have xx amount of HPs/Toughness you will die to persistent effects. No way to avoid em.

Nice idea, almost as nice the dps-check gate that was in arah4…oh wait…was

I would’ve liked other stats than zerker to be useful, I really would. But unless you are dedicated “tank” don’t go for it. Maybe a wee bit of toughness, but that’s a bout it.

They may look misplaced for your look, may look just fine with the full set. And that’s kind of the problem with cultural armors, they don’t appear very modular. You can however preview your intended look together before going through with it though, so as to not get these surprises…Think of it as bracelets, I’ve seen some complaints about Norn cultural and they remain the same as ever…

Looks like a pretty standard trapper build…not much to say. Sharpening Stone is crap, take something else. And without that you’re free to take another adept trait in survival (not that there’s much more interresting). Also I’d go with Hide in Plain Sight over Off-hand Training.

Considering some of the kitten I’ve seen in other f2p games this is totally reasonable…As someone else who haven’t spend any real cash in the shop either I accept not getting these minis. I can live without them…It’s not like it gives those people +20% power or anything…If you really really want those minis and didn’t get any freebie, then cough up some cash or gold…Who knows if 10 months down the line they do this again? This is also a very tactful incentive to get players to spend cash

If you’re doing high end dungeons or fotm I’d recommend against running 2 projectile weapons. Or at least carry gs/sword with you, some instances have nasty reflects…

Of the 16 stats only 9 are really to be concidered. And roughly half of them are the other half’s “opposites”. Is this for gear or traitlines? Because when going for traitlines you basically don’t even look at the stats…only the hexagons are interresting.

Collectors edition got other stuff… also its completely worthless minis. They could have given us a single crystaline dust and I’d have been more happy – at least that I could have sold.

Gem buyers also got other stuff. You know like the gems and they stuff they did buy with the gems.

And you might not want them but I would like them.

Started with 1.5M Karma, put all karma I got back into boxes untill I couldn’t any more (ofc had all boosts up). Trash from boxes npc’d for a lil’ more than 20 gold. Got a decent amount of lodestones that sold for around 40 gold. Prepare for a lot of clicking though…

Almost always carry 1 melee weapon and 1 ranged weapon.
I’d think greatsword is definetly the easier weapon to handle. But it’s dps is in line with the bows, sword is very much ahead. Since you’re going BM sbow > lbow, though I haven’t used axe much so can’t say anything on that, but it does have less range.

Anyone who cares how they look do this I assume. First part is making sure the weapons don’t clash with the armor though…And since you actually did ask for it
Norn Ranger: Simple looking weapons, preferably Viking-looking (Eir’s, basic loot skins)
Sylvari Elementalist: Plant looking (cultural t3)
Human Thief: Elegant looking (Glimmerfang,whispers,inquest)
Asuran Mesmer: Technomagical looking (cultural t3)
Charr Engineer: Will be usual 12-year old stuff
I know…but I like race/prof/lore meshes

A lot of maps are empty, and the ones that have a higher that normal amount of players have them concentrated in certain areas. Problem is incentives. At level 80 why would you go back to low level zones to farm T1 mats? Why would do events for low amounts of coin and karma, especially when karma is near useless. Orr is boarderline right now, if they keep nerfing it people will give up…I’m not saying I have a solution…but that is it! And if killing mobs and doing events was as rewarding as Orr no one would be in Orr…see the predicament?

Focus. ArenaNet are trying to work on three game modes at a time, which means each game mode gets some indifferent changes. They should work on one game mode at a time, for a few months, and then bring some content that has a bigger permanent impact on the game.

Oh…I see a lot of problem with this suggestion…
After launch they invested much resources in PvE and boy where the PvPers unhappy about that!

The title leads one to believe this is a campaign to put pets on permanent passive to show ANet that we do not tolerate…this. And instead I find an ex-ranger turned other profession come to complain about rangers…

Good to know where you stand

-After playing as Guardian/Messmer for fractals, DPSing in melee range is the key for harpy part. BUT most rangers just shoot from range and sometimes they get into invulnerability and pretend they are attacking.
-Slacking attitude: spamming auto attack agroing every harpy by changing targets within the range which causes crazy knock back festival.

How about staff/scepter+shield guradians? rifle warriors? This isn’t a ranger specific problem…

-Stupid melee pets standing doing nothing

And ranged pets would do ranged damaged and…what was it you wrote just above?
Also melee pets follow into melee if the ranger does.

-When moving batteries before “Old Tom” rangers forget to put pets away and agro Old tom

Do you not follow the patch notes?

-Stair with electronic waves coming down: Please put your pet away. PLEASE. Pets also gets exploded when it touches it

How does the pet getting blown up cause any trouble for the rest of the team?

-When trying to break the two arm chains, most people use tunnel or corridor strategies (whatever its called). One of the most important thing is to NEVER KILL the two on the left side (the first two chanters). But sadly.. yes rangers with their pets “not in passive” and forget about the pet will eventually kill it and make it spawn more chanters on the other side, and sometimes (I don’t truly understand why this is happening) the chanters on pets seems to follow the pet to the other side forcing us to kill chanters from the right side.
Please put your pets into Passive

I’ve seen/heard about stupid players killing all regardless of profession…However, this is the only somewhat valid point in your rant, pet does need to be on passive here.

When I’m not doing fractals I always play with my ranger(getting better now:))
so don’t think me as a ranger hater.

Take your ranger to fotm…Not doing so will just propage the vision that rangers have no place in fotm…if ranger is your favourite profession bring it to anything!

If you want to play with ranger in a dungeon please try to understand your role
(Guess this applies for all classes… )

This is not on you…ANet made and advertised ranger as a jack-of-all-trades profession, which is basically fancy talk for we have no role and can do a little of everything…but not excell at it.

Ah, yes. now I see it. Hidden behind all that word pooping is a request to look over the fine materials promotion recipe…It took you that much text to say so little?
And your idea of simplification is to write a slightly longer but equally poorly presented text?
Also:
1. Supply of t6 mats dimishes increasing it’s price
2. At a break point farming t6/t5 mats actually becomes profitable
3. Increase in supply reduces prices
4. Farming mats becomes unprofitable and people stop
This goes on until an equilibrium is reached. I find it hard to believe this will be at 1g…

I also acknowledge that it could potentially conflict with other race’s starting town clothing unless you made it so that the starting clothing was only transferable between races.

Actually I don’t think this is a problem. When I linked my Sylvari clothes to a Human to preview she saw it like her own Human clothes. This and the fact that they all have the same icon and name and everything leads me to believe it is the same! It only uses different models depending on race. I’ve played with the idea of transmuting the looks onto the stats of for example Mad King outfit to make acc bound town clothes and test it…though I don’t want to loose anything that isn’t aquireable any longer…

The problem with your suggestion is, that it will only deal with the symptonsn not with the actual cause.
Many mechanics, like regeneration or protection are not useful in PvE, often times mobs will severely outdamage these mechanics and the scaling with healing power or boon duration is not nearly good enough to compensate for that.
If you happen to remove berserker/pure damage gear, most people still wont go for these “alternative” builds (e.g. support) they will just take whatever itemcombination will come closest to the original stats.
By doing so you wont force people to consider other builds, you will just kitten off a lot of them, since their dungeon runs will take longer.
Changing something with the current meta would require a lot of steps, completely splitting up PvE from PvP mechanics would be a good start tough.
The only way to make alternative builds viable is by buffing them and/or making group support almost mandatory.
One downside of course would be, that the slogan “bring the player, not the class” would probably no longer apply.
But to be fair, it was a nice idea on how to change the way the game currently goes, but well… not the right way, sorry.

Pretty much this…as I read the suggestion the only thing I could think of was:
“So would have to run some combo of knights and cavaliers…”

Change the downed system

The thing that frustrates me the most about this games pvp is the downed system, it rewards bad players and punishes skilled players. Like let’s say there was a group of 10 people, and I was skilled enough to take down 3 without dying.

Going 1v10 isn’t skillful, it’s stupid…

And regardless of my skill downing those 3 players, I get no credit for a kill.

Why would you? As you said yourself you only downed them, that’s not a kill…

It only rewards groups that have the most players.

Err…Both teams can have equally many members…why did you split from your team?
Also, that kind of zerging only happens in hotjoin…as if anyone cares how hotjoin works.

Yeah, usually the one with back-up tends to win, funny huh?

And my suggestion to you is bring back-up, don’t go 1v10 (even if 1v8 is max), and stop thinking about downed as killed, it’s more akin to critically wounded…

I agree on nocking the arrow. Quivers are in game. 1 level 80 crafted and 1 CS (can’t buy that any more though), so they are in game…

I doubt anything will get buffed to compensate. Jon said “they are more sustainable now, they can actually stay in fights longer, the damage will be coming down.” So i guess the reason the damage is getting nerfed is because they got a few extra k hp last update.

So…before we were told that our dps was balanced around 100% uptime on the pet. And now that we’re getting close to achieveing that it turns out it’s not balanced? Who balances this game?

I’ve tried all targeting modes and they all suck tbh…

Auto target
Random, but pretty much the most reliable for me…

Target next
Will just cycle through anything that is even remotely targetable…including objects and yellow mobs.

Target closest
Yet again will target yellow over red if it is closer, also targets behind you…eh really?

Mouse targeting
In a larger group pretty much impossible to pick a target, also includes allies which would be super useful if you could actually “attack” allies.

Take target
Pretty much the only really reliable one…provided there is a good target.

I do away with Take target on tab and then Auto target plus Mouse target.

How about some more stylish option. Like a fedora or an akubra? There’s only one headband in the game…maybe more of that? The above mentioned blindfold…ye sure! Bandanas? More goggle options that isn’t steampunk? Brain standing still on more option at the moment…
One thing that I think they might have to fix first…shaving of the head while wearing certain headgears…fedora won’t work at all if I’m going to be bald underneath…

How hard is it to focus fire a Drake pet and force the ranger to swap in PvP…. If you’re letting a pet run around the field in Structured…that’s your own fault..

Pretty much this. It’s not rocket science spotting the difference between BM and trapper. If it’s BM you’re not going to even hit the ranger itself…and while you’re busy trying the pet does it’s thing.

I just got to 80 with my asura, so I don’t have it yet. But I will! Although…I made my asura bald anyway :p I think the hair option for asura are laughable…even the notion of hair at all…So for me it’s definetly worth it

Typically movement increasments do not stack and the more powerful ones override the weaker ones. At least that’s the case on my ranger. Swiftness overrides the Signet (and Trait for pet 30% overrides swiftness). As for the health I can not say…

Some clarification…

  • This is against 2600 armor, that is, rather sturdy.
  • This is dps – damage per second using only what is in the bullet point
  • This is average weapon performance and criticals
  • This is mainly to compare the auto attacks.
  • Of course traits changes these numbers
  • The numbers themselves aren’t that important, it’s the ratio between them that is, I just used some to be able to include bleed…
  • It’s all theoretical, a lot of practicalities change the outcome

I admit though that I’ve overlooked some details…so removing useless facts…

Regarding weapons!
The following assumptions are made (full gc)
power = 2400
expertise = 30% (from marksman)
precision = 2028 (57%)
prowess = 111%
but no traits are included…ye I know, not the best…

enemy armor = 2600

And now for som dps (calculations do include cast/animation times, cooldowns, uptimes etc)~

Longbow

  • Long Range Shot: 989 (max range)
  • Hunter’s Shot -> LRS: 1120 (max range)

Short Bow

  • Crossfire: 1276 (always flanking, includes bleed)

Greatsword

  • Slash-Slice-Stab: 1007

Sword

  • Slash-Kick-Pounce: 1657

Some conclusions. sbow auto beats lbow auto under optimal conditions (has been said before), Just hacking with sword auto is true profit (also known).

Clearly 4,8s is grossly overpowered. I’d like some more blast finishers as well…but Rangers aren’t the only profession lacking in that department, so doesn’t seem unintentional.
