Incredible patch timing

There is a major world boss every hour. No matter what hour they chose you would still be here complaining.

They push out the updates as soon as they are available. There is no downtime and the fixes benefit people immediately.

So many markets all over the place in this patch. I’m just staying away for now. Hopefully things settle back down soon.

I do think that the drop rates for the champ bag exotics were increased significantly. I’d only gotten 1 exotic from those bags in the past 3 months, but since the patch i’ve gotten 4. I suspect those weapons will fall back down to their original price.

The other collections are just too tedious for me. Making every grawl weapon and your only reward is a recipe that is worse in every possible way to existing items. I guess it is fun if you are a skin collector.

“Is there anything good about GW2?”

Not any more.

Then ciao. And don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Ahh yes… the attitude that SWTOR players took…

3 months later there was no one left to tell that to and all the devs were fired and the game went P2W.

Here’s a bit of advice for you. If you find yourself telling multiple people to do this… then the problem may not be with the people…

I am not calling it quite quite yet. I enjoyed the first half of S2, but the game has plummeted downhill fast since then. I will stick around to see the winter conclusion of S2, but there will be no more financial support from me until there is a public apology and course correction released by Anet. If nothing changes by the end of S2 then I too will be calling it quits.

I just feel that Anet has taken a completely different direction and that direction is not appealing to me.

John, can you explain the economic thinking behind the new leveling items and new utility potions?

50 ectos for a level 68 item with a standard skin in the case of “handcrafted” weapons

and for the case of things like “Orge Sharpening Stone” it costs 50s in mats (vs 15s), last for 45 minutes (vs 60 minutes) and is account bound (vs sellable)

I can not see the value behind the implementation of these items from either a gameplay or an economic standpoint.

Personal Story Mob Drops

ZudetGambeous.9573

Personally I was always excited for the large loot mobs in the personal story steps, there was often a chance of finding some level appropriate gear or some crafting materials that might not otherwise easily drop due to scaling. I can see this being a problem if they ever make the personal story replayable, but for now I’d really like the loot drops to return.

There was a story instance with a large number of mobs that you could use to farm linen. Anet does not allow farming so they used their sledgehammer approach to fix it. Loot drops will not return.

Does it REALLY matter how ANet sells the stuff from cash shop?

Golem banker – already in shop
Black Lion traders – already in shop
Additional bags
Ressurection
…….
Almost everything IS already in shop.

So whats the big deal in putting it in one 30 days bundle and calling it “VIP status”

Please elaborate (for those who go even so far as “leaving the game” if this makes it in)

So will you still be playing if the VIP comes in?

I dont really care. Its standard practice to bundle items and sell them. Its not like gem shop doesnt have bundled items from launch.

Is it name that offends people “VIP status”?

What if they call it “monthly convenience bundle”? MCBundle ;P

The VIP system in china includes things such as:

Free precursors
The ability to trade more than 5 items a day (everyone else gets restricted)
A temporary 50% dmg booster
The ability to instantly port around the map (meaning if you don’t pay for that you will never get to an event in time again, no karma or gold for you)
40-50% discounts on gem store items which have increased prices

If you don’t pay for VIP the game is gutted and unplayable. They offer convenience for the VIP players by removing it from all the other players.

And if you don’t think they’d do that, just look at SAB. you used to be able to easily get continue coins by a dozen different methods… one day the infinite continue coin gets put in the gem store and 99% of those methods are nerfed out of the game. Buy it or suffer was the message.

Well, that would include enforcing these restrictions first. Anything is possible, but hey a buttrfly can also cause a tornado.

These isnt about Chinese VIP (and general Chinese handling of the game as NCSoft doesnt do that in China fyi) but a general “VIP program” (custom tailored for western market just as KZ tailored theirs for eastern one)

The leveling system was also custom tailored for china… that worked out well for us…

Hey everyone,

While this is currently working as intended, it’s definitely something that we’ll be working on and tweaking in the future. We want you to be able to enjoy your minis so hang in there!

The issue is less with the feature and more with the feature not working correctly.

People are having their minis hidden in maps that are closing to not enough players or maps that have no players even visible in the area.

It seems to be functioning incorrectly atm.

As for working as intended I would say that other peoples minis should be hidden but never your own as my feedback.

Guys, this is a bug and we’re working on fixing it right now. I want to take a second to remind you of two things that we’ve mentioned before: First, if you see something that you think isn’t working properly, please use /bug in game so the right people can be notified immediately. (Talking it over on the forum is fine too–sharing the details with us and other players can be enormously helpful)

Second, datamined content is unfinished and subject to an enormous amount of change, so it’s always a bad idea to make assumptions about a situation based on it.

5 months ago it was: The VIP system and items will NEVER be coming to US/EU

Now it is in the game files and it is “unfinished and subject to change”

I’ll remain skeptical… If VIP comes to US/EU I will be gone and I will do my best to take everyone I know with me.

Insider trading is kind of unfair....

I watched one of the videos and thought to myself, I better buy some of those items for my collections before they skyrocket in price after the patch hits. So I bought a couple of the exotics, Eternal Ice & Breath of Kralkatorrik specifically, and they’re now all much cheaper than when I bought them pre-patch. Like… less than half what I payed for them. I lost probably 50 gold total so far, and each time i check the price, they keep going down. If ANET came out and said this was against the terms of service, I’d never do it again because the gains aren’t worth risking your account over… and probably be much happier in the long run anyway because I wouldn’t be regretting my decision.

Insider trading is illegal in the stock market because you know what will happen ahead of time. Watching a video and guessing what will happen is a risk. There’s a big difference.

They literally told you what items you need… there is no risk in that.

Eternal Ice was 1g before the patch, it is currently 5g… the only way you lost money was if you bought after everyone already bought them up…
Your inability to distinguish when prices have peaked is not really an argument.

I’m a pretty diehard fangirl. I’ll stick around if they introduce this, because it would probably save me money <3

I don’t really understand why people care about it. If you don’t want the perks …. don’t pay for it? I don’t know. If there’s something on the store I don’t care for, I don’t buy it. I don’t complain and say “I’m leaving the game because you introduced optional items that I don’t want!”

I’m not trying to be a jerk or anything. I just really want to know how this affects people so much.

It’s a matter of how you want to support the game. If they would ask me for money to create new content, I would atleast dumb 10€ per month into the game, only asking for them to keep their promises. If they want me to buy something from the gemstore,or even ay for VIP status, then no, I’ll never gonna do that. I’m not supporting such bold strategy to fund their game.

Okay but how does having a VIP status that you don’t want affect you in any way?

Well you’ll do 50% more damage than me… be able to run to and complete events faster than I can even get there, you’ll get free precursors making you rich and driving up the prices for everything else until I can’t afford anything, you’ll be able to trade more items more frequently than me locking me out of mats and crafting…. Should I go on?

VIP in this game means I am not.

Can you prove that this isn’t just a bunch of speculators?

There is probably legitimate concern due to the previews that have been posted on youtube over the last couple of days. WoodenPotatoes has done 2. Someone else has done 1 that I’ve seen, and there’s a 3 part preview in German. Some of which cover the various collections, their requirements, and their rewards in some detail.

Edit: I’m curious about the guides though. I haven’t seen those.

I’m not familiar with the workings of a market, but when it’s posted freely online, that doesn’t really require you to be an “insider”.

I guess “friend of an insider” would be more accurate. You need to follow the people who have “special preacess” to the patches if you want to make any money.

Dulfy has a guide up now if you are looking for one. It is too late though.

The worst offender is probably the home instance chest… 3 days ago it would have cost you about 50g to get it…

It is about 2000g to get it now…

And oh the buyers remorse when they open it daily to get …..

2 blues and a green

The 1 or 2 people who bought up 100 of them at 3g and are selling them for 50g a pop are unlikely to have much remorse…

If Anet is going to let this kind of insider trading continue then they should consider locking all sales on the TP until patches go live.

I shouldn’t need to “know someone” in order to get collections done.

Insider traders: get karma converter for ~300g

Not insider traders: now costs >1000g

For those who don’t know, guides to all collections and what you need were posted last night by people who had “special access” to the patch. All the items used for collections have since been bought out and relisted for 100x the price.

Just a quick clarification about the initial video: this is a preview of the September 2014 Feature Pack collection and it shows rewards that are unique to the collection feature, but they’re not precursors. These rewards are the named exotics that drop from Champion loot bags.

So the reward for collecting 1200g of skins… is a skin that you can buy off the tp for at most 8g….

And you wonder why people say Anet can’t figure out rewards…

I keep seeing people post about how endgame dungeons in other games are just a gear grind where you just run the dungeon over and over and it isn’t any fun.

I have to wonder if those people have ever actually played an MMO before, including GW2.

In WoW, the most called upon offender of this stereotype you generally have 2-3 pieces of gear per dungeon that your class/build can use. This means you may need to run the dungeon 10-12 times if you are really unlucky. The token system prevents needing any more runs than this.

Now lets compare that “terrible rng grind” to what is offered in GW2… in order to get a full set of dungeon armor, you need ~1300 dungeon tokens… you get 60 tokens per run of the dungeon… This means you need to grind out 22 dungeon runs in order to get the full set of armor. This is almost DOUBLE the WORST case scenario in WoW.

And of course that only gets you exotic armor. In order to get ascended armor you need 800+ gold. Trust me, you don’t want me to compare the number of raids in WoW you need to complete to the amount of grinding you need to do for ascended armor… it is quite embarrassing to GW2, the “no grind” game.

An endgame like WoW is much more casual and less grindy than the current endgame in GW2.

On top of all that, WoW offers different difficulty modes for different skill level players, while GW2 only offers super easy mode.

And you HAVE TO HAVE full set of dungeon/ascended armor in GW2 because?

How do you progress in WoW without grinding same dungeons/raids over and over again? How do you get that gear that you HAVE TO HAVE if you dont run dungeons/raids at all?

I don’t HAVE to even play the game… so I fail to see what that has to do with anything?

How do you progress in GW2 without getting exotic or ascended armor?

You also don’t HAVE to do that in WoW. You can do regular mode and do lfr with basic gear is you just want to see the story… just like gw2…

does this mean even though I spent nearly 2000g on ascended armor I won’t be able to get this achievement? That would be game breaking for me…

The line will just continue to move and the sheeple will continue to defend the line as they run after it.

Perhaps you can explain this to me, then.

How is awarding Achievement Points for Black Lion weapon skins any different than awarding Achievement Points for collecting Miniatures? When the game launched, the Miniature Collection achievements and resulting Miniature Collector title existed.

If the Black Lion skins weren’t tradable, then yeah, that would be a moving line. They weren’t tradable at first. Now they are. So where’s the moving line? What if Mjolnir is part of a collection, does that make it worse because it’s more expensive than any Black Lion skin?

First it was just AP for mini’s, which I denounced as a slippery slope back in beta, in multiple threads. People said I was ridiculous, and that was the slippery slope fallacy and I should crawl back into my hole….

Now it is mini’s AND weapons, and people will undoubtedly say the exact same thing to me now. Next year it will be mini’s and weapons AND armor… and so on and so forth. Each step just far enough apart that people who complain are shouted down by the reasoning, “we already have this, so what’s wrong with that?”

I’m not going to argue any further after this. I’ve pointed it out, denounced it, and will never buy another Black Lion chest again, just like I never bought a mini pack. I hope other people will do the same, and stop this progression at this point instead of allowing it to go further.

If you are gonig to comment on this thread then I suggest you actually take a look at the financial report. Look at the 5 page pdf summary that’s all you really need.

Highlights:
1. The figures include china’s launch, it is stated on the first slide.
2. Revenue is down from last quarter even with the launch included <—- VERY bad sign
3. Wildstar did not sell a lot of boxes, it has a much much smaller player base
4. China only sold 1 million boxes (see reddit link above), far less than the 3.5 million in the US/EU

There isn’t much to discuss, the game is in trouble, I suspect we will see something similar to SWTOR happening soon. A period of odd quiet followed by the leak of major restructuring at Anet, followed by an announcement that the game is taking a “new direction” (P2W mode activated, or expansion announced). This will take 3-4 months and will probably be announced around the next feature patch after S2 ends.

Anet forgotten there's underwater gameplay?

Underwater content is probably the thing the devs regret most in the making of GW2. It is unbalanced, unworkable, difficult to design and frustrates players.

Anet is systematically removing all underwater content from the game, and I am 100% certain they will not bring the LS underwater.

WvW underwater fighting: REMOVED
sPvP underwater map: REMOVED
LS S1: tower of nightmares: water REMOVED

The dehydration of tyria is underway and the devs will not stop until it is wiped clean of water.

Additional note: The last 3-4 BL weapon sets have not included underwater weapons. They are even phasing out the weapons.

I don’t think there is very much inflation in the economic sense of the word, but in another sense it doesn’t matter all that much.

You play the game for a few months and you hit level 80. In another month of very casual play you have a full set of exotic armor. Now there are really only two things left to do, either you make ascended armor and weapons, you make a legendary weapon or both. None of the other materials in the game really matter to a level 80 player who has exotic armor. Their primary interest in those items is to sell it to other players or speculators.

So I can see where many players are coming from. Who cares if there is inflation on the economy as a whole, players could care less about the economy as a whole. The only thing most players care about is the economy of legendaries and the economy of ascended armor. If an item isn’t involved in one of those two processes then it isn’t part of the economy that they see. If you were to separate out every item associated with legendary weapons and analyze the inflation based on that, I bet it would be absurdly high. Because most players don’t trade or deal with any of the “indicator” items that people are using to measure inflation, they only trade in items that matter to them.

As the game matures, prices associated with legendary weapons will continue to spiral out of control because it is the only endgame available to players to work towards. Sure the price of T3 wood is very stable and not inflating, but only the constant cycle of new players harvest and use it and keep it at the same price. Meanwhile the huge pile of level 80 players are all desperately competing over dwindling supplies of legendary mats because it is the only thing in the game to actually work towards.

As more and more players make legendaries prices will continue to rise since the demand is rising and the constant nerfs keep lowering supply. The only limit to the price is how much people are willing to work. What ends up keeping the prices in check is players quitting because they don’t think it is worth it anymore, thus lowering the demand… this may mean the economy is functioning “as intended” but the game as whole is suffering instead. Which is more important in the long run?

in 2015 , without any changes for Gw2. the profits will decline further.

you cannot expect people to stay interested when Change is not occurring at a certain level of interest to players time invested in the game.

Anet really need to think about Expansions and Real NEW content that holds up.

MAYBE… Public BETA tests could better help this game improve and thus improve Profits.

They had a public test of EoTM and look where that got them.
