I’m not sure why people keep quoting this “every 2 weeks” crap…

We have had 6 LS updates since January… and this was probably the last one for the year…

That is one update every 2 months… the same as WoW… GW2 does not have some special super fast update schedule that people seem to think it has…

Well to be fair, you had 39 update since october 2012. This mean about one update each 22 days. If you start to count in april 2013 when they start to talk about 1 update each 2 weeks, then its 1 update each 18 days, which is basically 1 update each 2 weeks.

I don’t count anything from season 1 as an “update”

Some of the “updates” back then were literally click F on this sign post! “UPDATE!!!” It got better towards the end, but it was still an entirely different format. Back then they used to tell us about their big plans for the game too, doesn’t make it true for this year though.

Anet never ceases to amaze me with how little content they can put out.

It’s been 2.5 years. Most games would of had a full expansion out plus regular updates. Anet has managed to only release 2 new maps, no classes, no skills, no races, a tiny fraction of a story, and only 2 new features in all that time.

Last update was a glimmer of hope in what a regular release schedule should have been, but Anet just can’t keep up.

What area of the game specifically are you talking about? I really hope you’re not talking about this story patch, because it was hecka easy :P

Speak for yourself. I had to form up with friends to do it with half of my characters. The white knights of ANet pretending that the latest Living Story releases haven’t promoted further marginalization are out of their mind.

The open world content isn’t too bad, it’s just anything solo that sucks pretty hard. Albeit you almost have to do some content solo because nobody wants to help. I smell a hero system being implemented within 3 years at this rate.

You almost have to do it solo because it is so easy that no one needs to ask for help.

This was literally one of the easiest chapters so far. I got all 6 achievements on my first run through as well.

We now get 20 minutes of zerg chest farming if people would stop going underground which costs more money than you make.

I mean whenever you loot a rare item, there is a 95% chance that the next rare item will be the same identical thing. Real “random”…

Anet just either doesn’t care or doesn’t have the resources to revamp the entire RNG system. It is what it is.

Very interesting facts about Ascended gear

ZudetGambeous.9573

Ascended gear is so easy to get now a days I don’t know why you wouldn’t get a set. The last alt I leveled went from lvl 1 to full ascended gear in 2 weeks. Too bad all my characters are light armor so I don’t get the stupid collection achievement.

It is only easy if you are rich and have already gathered the account bound things. Try doing the same on a new account without buying gems to turn into gold or getting stuff handed to you. Then you can say it is ‘so easy’. Take even a month and I’ll eat my imaginary hat.

you can get enough ascended mats for a full set in 5-6 hours in SW thanks to the newly introduced chests.

Gold is easy to get from the TP since I already know how it works so all the buyable mats wouldn’t be an issue either, especially with the recent dip in silk price.

I think the limiting factor would be laurels and karma for the recipes. I’m not sure if those could be had within a month or not.

A month seems about right for a new account, maybe two, but I was mostly talking about alts. They aren’t a whole lot of new accounts 2 years after launch with no expansion. Mostly just vets, who should be able to easily get a set, especially with all the recent farms added to the game. (ToT bags, chest farm)

This is already in the game… it is called the DR system…

I feel like people who post suggestions have never actually played the game. This is like the 3rd “suggestion” this week for a feature already present in the game.

The DR system is already in the game and it limits the amount of loot you get if you loot items too fast over a short period of time. It generally kicks in after 2 hours of solo farming or about 20 minutes of super zerg farming.

The focus is Esports and the Gem store.

They have a very well defined focus that is reinforced by their actions. The problem is, is that 90% of the players don’t like their focus so they just pretend there is no focus.

People keep hoping for some mystical announcement that the game is going to suddenly take off in a new exciting direction after 2.5 years. Get real, the focus is to promote esports and throw stupid amounts of prize money at it to make it look like people are interested. Since almost no one actually plays PvP and even less people actually watch it they are boosting their profits by heavy use of the gem store in recent months.

Err why are people suggesting ideas that already exist in the game?

You already get a 5-15% exp bonus on alts account wide… It’s called achievement bonus.

Between the heaps of exp boosters, the achievement bonus, the lvl 20 scrolls and tomes on knowledge it is already almost impossible for new players to find people leveling up because alts just blow by them. if anything we need LESS boosts for alts.

The only problem with stacking is that 90% of PvE players don’t understand why you stack.

As long as the only role is DPS, everyone can bring utility and dodge is 100% dmg avoidance, then there will be stacking.

Playing smart is not “ez-mode”, it is just playing smart.

Yes I could make the game harder by removing all my armor and never dodging, but that isn’t really the point now is it?

This time for sure.

We did wait for each of those… and each of those games showed a 5-10% drop for GW2. GW2 can only handle so many 5-10% drops before there is no one left to drop…

Maybe Anet should consider making actual content for a change and try to recover some of those players?

Really? 5 – 10% drop? I’d love to see the numbers that show this amount of loss that directly correlated to the release time period of these other games. I haven’t been able to find any substantial concurrency (or any other kind of) numbers about Guild Wars 2’s playerbase. Could you please post the link? Thanks in advance! =)

PSA: How Farming Works

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZudetGambeous.9573

1. creates a split community. The people who participate in the farm quickly gain wealth, while those who don’t are left behind. This leads to a rich get richer, poor get poorer scenario where the community is fractured.

2. Mats become too common, continually falling in price until they eventually hit vendor price. This may seem like a good thing until you realize that the only thing that keeps most people playing the game is having long term goals. If they can suddenly buy every awesome skin they want in one day the game quickly becomes stale and boring and many players leave. This was a major problem in the beginning of the game and is why ascended gear was introduced. Devaluing ascended gear like this farm did is going to end up with a lot of players quitting and they may need to add in a new gear tier to bring them back.

There is no split. Stop looking at gold. Gold is absolutely and completely irrelevant. Gold isn’t the end, it is a MEAN to buy stuff. What you should be looking at is how easy it is to buy things and with farms, it becomes super easy. When mat prices hit vendor price, it means that it’s super easy to buy them. So everybody wins and the poor aren’t actually poorer, because their purchase power increases too, due to the lower prices.

If you only look at the very specific items supplied by the farm sure… if you look at the economy as a whole then what happens is exactly what I said would happen.

Certain mats get cheaper, everyone can buy those now. The people farming collect large quantities of gold, the people who don’t farm do not have this gold. The people who farm now have much greater purchasing power. All items not related to the farm increase sharply in price as the wealthy compete for these items and drive the price up. People who did not participate in the farm are completely priced out of the market and are much worse off than before.

You might as well be saying “people who aren’t playing are being left behind by the ones that are playing”.

It’s common sense that if you want to earn rewards in a game you have to play it. If you want your rewards fast – you have to play it effectively.

Look at it this way – if farmers are farming and selling something they’re making money but the person buying it also achieves his goal of using said material to craft whatever they were going for.
Ultimately he’s completing a goal he set for himself.

The bottom line is this : if you want to be ahead in this game or any other you have to actively participate in it, inform yourself and use your knowledge and time in order to actually get ahead.

If you don’t do these things you will be left behind and that’s pretty much the way it is. It’s the same everywhere else in the world.

I completely agree with you, however if you look around at these forums you will find that it is not a popular opinion. People are constantly asking for precursors to be artificially reduced in price, farmers to be banned, even straight up saying that gold should be taken from players and given to poorer players.

Unfortunately the number of poor people who want stuff for free greatly outnumber the people willing to work and earn the items, and it seems people willing to work for their stuff are fighting a losing battle.

Crests are pathetically easy to get.

5-8 crests per event… you can easily complete 3 events every 5 minutes at a single camp, up to 5 events in 5 minutes if you rotate between camps. (defend, rubble, ox). That is 15-24 crests every 5 minutes. Plus you get 25-50 crests for each boss you kill. You can easily tag 3 bosses in the 5 minute fight, so that is another 75-150 crests.

So you get easily get (at minimum) 250 crests an hour…

that means you will have to “grind” and “farm” a maximum of 4 hours for this so called “legendary” armor…

*edit: Just realized I forgot to mention that when all 4 forts are held at level 3+ you get 25 crests for a defend completion, making it even easier than stated for most maps.

I think the reason those paths seem linear is because the 3 paths into the zone with the large flowery Mordrem plant that we see in ’Caithe’s Reconnaissance Squad’ are linear, and that is where it looked like we where going, either that or through the little mini-canyon at the top of Dry Top that is currently blocked by the vines(but that you can get through with a little effort, to get a chest in the back). The size of Magus Falls(the next zone looks like it will be released in 2 or 3, maybe even 4 episodes, before we get to Mordremoth, if we even get to it in this season.

There is only 3 episodes left. Based on the current schedule we will finish up December 16th and get the next LS in April. I wouldn’t expect any more zones until then.

People still did them and made gold. It’ just that people have recently gravitated to broken farms that gave out twice the awards.

The only thing really ‘broken’ is that the majority of chests are at Amber. If they put more chests at the other locations people would spread out more. That’s essentially the biggest gripe I’m seeing here, is that in farming maps, everyone clusters at Amber instead of spreading across the map to defend all 4 points (and the escorts).

Nerfing the rewards into oblivion so no one gives a rats kitten about the map is not the way to fix it. Especially considering mobs don’t really drop loot (read: rarely, not never), and champs not at all. The chests balance that factor.

The thing I see broken is that you can easily replenish all the crests you used for keys from crests in chests and by doing a few events.

I don’t see anything wrong with that myself honestly, but that’s just my view on it.

It’s because you’re getting a ton of loot and not thinking about its impact.

People are happy, mat prices go down, maps are populated, lots of people playing the game.

Yep this farm is terrible! How will we say that the game is dying if the economy improves and people start playing again!?!?!

As soon as glorious PvP armor is available in PvE then sure.

As soon as PvPers can grind the Carapace armor set by afking in a PvE Hotjoin then sure.

I don’t understand your statement. PvE hotjoin? I’m unsure what this is, as far as i’m aware the only way to get glorious armor is to do PvP of some form.

I’m suggesting that if you want PvE exclusive armor you should have to PvE, just like the PvP exclusive armor requires you to engage in PvP.

And he’s saying PvEers don’t really have to PvP to get rewards when they can just afk in Hotjoin matches. Hot join is considered hardly PvP by those who take PvPing seriously. He’s suggesting he should have a similar form of ‘hotjoin pve’ where he can go afk and get those precious rewards by the same means.

He can… just stand in front of amber and tag a single mob every 5 minutes. You’ll have enough crests to buy the armor in like 3 hours. Much faster than you can afk the PvP armor.

He’d still have to do the PvE part, the shoulder box doesn’t show up on the vendor until you’ve finished the living story release.

And I still have to PvP to get the glorious armor. I don’t see a problem.

Carapeice: easy to get PvE only armor
Glorious: easy to get PvP only armor

Lumi: harder to get PvE only armor
Glorious Hero: harder to get PvP only armor

This is the set introduced in direct competition with the new PvP only set. It should remain PvE only until the PvP only armor is also introduced to both game modes.

Or maybe I’m putting too much faith in the GW2 community in that belief.

Yeah it pretty clearly needs to be nerfed. The problem I have is that people are trying to get it nerfed for reasons that they are just making up. No one is forcing people out of maps or preventing completion of events. No one is being mean in map chat like in previous farming incidents. The only issue here is that the loot is wayyyyyy over the top.

Aside from the exo jewelry issue, I’d say that everything here is a good thing.

I’d agree. Not sure what the long term effects will be. I’m assuming it will be nerfed today in some total nuked approach that Anet likes. It will be interesting to see if things bounce right back or are slow to recover.

Soft wood is up in price due to people crafting Bandit Weapons.

People actually buy them? when you can get the entire set for 5000 karma that seems kind of silly…

Besides that the events can be a bit repetitive has the new map great potential.
But those trains… It’s sad that the maps get abused by those chestfarming which makes the gameplay incredible boring (even worse than the champtrains). I hope you’ll fix this

If you don’t like it then don’t do it?

There are plenty of organized maps in lfg if that’s what you want to do. You don’t see me complaining that organized maps are ruining my fun from farming…

So i’ve noticed that the SW shovel farm has had a pretty significant effect on the economy. I was hoping to compile a list of markets this is improving and destroying.

The biggest effect so far has been:

1.The exotic jewelery market (totally destroyed)
2. Silk market: https://www.gw2tp.com/item/19748-silk-scrap
3. Lodestones are all down
4. T6 mats are tumbling

Things get more interesting when looking at the markets that are going up. I’m not sure what the reasons are though:

I have no idea why soft wood logs are skyrocketing in price, but it seems to be connected to this farm.

Anyone seen any other markets effected by the farm? anyone know what is up with soft wood?

So… I played SW all weekend, with my husband and one other guildie, and we honestly didn’t see any of the drama that this thread (and a few others) have been complaining about.

We were in one semi-organized map that did really well at holding the forts, but didn’t succeed in the breach event. Which no one had issues with, it was an ‘ok, we can try again next time.’

Got into one completely pug map, no commanders, that did really well – calling out who needed help and were and did succeed in killing all 5 champs during the breach event (the first and only time we’ve succeeded thus far). I managed to kill 3 of the 4 legendaries in that map too.

We were in several other just pug maps that went back and forth on holding, retaking, etc.

In these all of these instances, people went hunting for chests between siege events or as they went along the escort events, but no drama, no issues.

The end of the day yesterday we got into a pure farming map, but that’s what everyone was there for. They did the amber defense events, and the rebuilding events (all successfully) and they killed the amber breach champ (troll i think that one is), and did chest farming between events. No drama, though plenty of hilarious map chat.

Maybe we’re just really super lucky with our maps?

Nope you aren’t lucky. There isn’t any actual drama that I can see after visiting over a dozen maps. I suspect the people complaining couldn’t play this weekend and are upset that they are missing out on this farm. They are trying to make up fake drama to get it nerfed since they are missing out.

LFG provides everyone with a map they want with little need for drama.
