I wish I had a six week christmas break. Sounds awesome!
Congrats on all people working at ANet, enjoy your 1 1/2 monthes off!
I really hope you are kidding….. So many unrealistic expectations on these forums. If you really think they are not working for 6 weeks you are delusional. No company on Earth gives that much time off for Christmas. Plus there are 2 patch releases between now and mid January. How much more can they do to make people happy….
I bet German companies do… Those guys only work like 4 weeks a year.
Ascended and legendaries are luxury items.
BiS is not a luxury.
Please point to the content that you can’t complete in exotics… if there is some content that is physically impossible to complete in full exotic gear then ascended is no longer a luxury but is required. Otherwise it is a luxury item.
So to sum up the year:
We had a 6 week break from December 10th to January 21st
Then we had a 4 week break from March until April
Then we had a 12 week break From April to July
Then we had an 8 week break from September til November
And now we are having a 6 week break from December to January
Anet’s total break time for the year = 36 weeks of break out of a 52 week year…
Well I guess it is no wonder why people are complaining about the amount of content… Anet gets more breaks than congress…
(unless devs add 1 new continent twice the size of Tyria,10 more well designed dungeons with all their dungeon sets and weapons,17 more fractals,2 real dragon bosses,at least 2 more playable races,4 more classes,11 new weapon types and 30 more weapon combos,Submarines and ships,Guild Hall instance,GvG Arena with ladders and stuff,Mounts and ability to freely fly around,5 more different in design WvW maps and WvW Events,10 more sPvP maps and PvP modes…and so on)
So your argument is… you won’t be happy with an expansion… unless it is actually an expansion… well that is sort of a given isn’kitten
Your list is essentially a WoW expansion… the fact that you think it is some absurd hyperbole just goes to show how little content we have gotten so far…
There is an additional reason for this long break: China! It is the first Wintersday over there. Everything is new for the majority of the players. With LW on pause they can enjoy Wintersday to its full extent.
In addition the Chinese Qualifiers for the 2nd WTS final in Boston start at Dec 22nd and end at Jan 9th. Chinese players are simply to busy to play LW.
This is the first logical response to this thread that I have seen. I could actually see this as a valid reason for not wanting to release the LS at the same time.
It seems to me that a lot of the players here have never actually held a job in America. They seem to have this grand fantasy that Anet gives all its employees 4 weeks off for the Holiday’s… I hate to break it to you guys, most people get Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New years Day off, that is it. You go to work on the 23rd, you come back to work on the 26th. Anything other than those 3 days are personal vacation days. Life goes on, you still need a paycheck in the month of December, so you still have to work.
Lets look at some actual numbers instead of made up ones.
6 months ago a full ascended light set of armor cost ~850g, today that same set can be had for ~650g… not exactly inflation.
I think a better way to look at inflation is to look at items that have had a constant demand since launch. T6 mats have been used for the exact same items since launch, not much has changed about them. If you figure the first year of the game the ecnomy was still settling then we can look at everything after that as a good measure of gold in the economy.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24295
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24357
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24300
You’ll notice these items are all very similar, as they react to the economy in the same way, and they have all doubled in price over the last year and a half. I would say from looking at that we can conclude that gold is worth about half of what it was a year ago.
The problem is you need a common material with constant demand, and no major changes to get a good feel of the economy, and there just aren’t that many of those. Most regular materials are either so poorly tuned that they sit at vendor price, or they have had significant changes over the game and don’t represent the economy very well, just those changes (i.e. silk)
Ectos are probably the most in demand and highly traded item:
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19721
they also show a devaluing of gold by half.
I don’t understand… is this 6 weeks a chance for Anet to have time off and relax or time to finish the release? It can’t be both…
If this is a 6 week break then that means the patch is ready and should be released before the Holiday’s… If it is not ready then I have to ask why not? These releases have not been large, there was a 4 month break at the beginning of the season and a 2 month break mid season, how much time is needed for these relatively small releases?
Also the reason I say we are taking a break for PvP is because in the 6 paragraph article about the LS there is 2 sentences about the LS and 5.5 paragraphs about PvP…
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/season-2-returns-on-january-13/
It appears that Anet is taking another 6 week break from their small updates to focus on PvP.
I do not believe that Anet is putting out content at an appropriate pace for a AAA MMO and should push the release forward to coincide with the Wintersday patch since it contains no new content and is just a rehash of last year.
Just off the top of my head, you missed:
Guild Missions
New Jumping Puzzles
New Minigames
New Minidungeons
New Worldbosses
Edge of the Mists
MegaserverIm not saying the game has been as expansive or aggressive in releases as a game like WoW (in its first 2 years), but I think you are deliberately putting on blinders because the content weve received isnt necessarily the content you wanted.
There is a valid topic worthy of discussion here regarding the pace of content delivery vs player expectations (I was a little disappointed in the news about the next LS step myself), but the hyperbole and exaggerations from some are making it harder – not easier – to actually have that conversation.
I don’t count server mergers as a positive, or content, WoW has done some Server mergers as well.
I certainly did leave off Guild missions, completely slipped my mind. I’ll have to check when WoW added in their guild updates, might be l\missing from their list too.
JP’s are really just part of the maps, but I can certainly add them to the list.
World Bosses were left off both lists, WoW added 8 World bosses that I can find, and GW2 added a similar number, forgot about those as well.
Which mini games? There were some as part of festivals, which it seems I also left off the GW2 list, I will add that too.
I did forget about the mini dungeons, they were added so soon after launch that I thought they were there at launch.
Also forgot edge of the mists and WvW ranks, both of which should be added.
I’ll post an updated list shortly. Unfortunately none of this changes the reality… a dozen new dungeons, each with 90+ minutes of play, plus hard modes for each, raids with 10+ bosses, 5x more zones, each significantly larger than the GW2 zones each which contain a self contained zone story, new crafting professions, new classes, new races. GW2 just hasn’t delivered anything of that caliber yet.
Read my posts. I stated that there was perement content and temporary content. Both are considered content.
If I get it right, you’ve got temporary money on your bank account, but if it reaches 0, you still have it since it’s money (even if it’s temporary).
So temporary is permanent because even if it’s invisible it still exists. Therefore permanent is permanent and temporary is temporary.
Makes total sense.
Wow lol
Nah seriously, your logic is hard to get.
They did some job BUT removed it, and we should still consider they made it and that is it part of the final product we have, and we should understand that after two years they did twice more than what we see.
So, as a translator, I erased a third of the chapters I already translated (the first ones!), and I release a book, everyone must understand that I did my job yet removed content, but you can’t say I didn’t do what I had to do since I did it for the lucky ones that could witness my translating process.
Just because content is temporary, does not mean that it is not content.
Actually that is exactly what it means…. It is no longer content, hence “temporary”
Not that it matters, I put it in the list anyway, but you are still upset since the WoW list dwarfs the GW2 one. It’s ok, i’m just as upset as you are that Anet has been so terrible at delivering content. I keep hoping that if the players draw attention to it they will improve their game, but it seems to be a losing battle.
Woudl the contents of the feature packs be considered ‘content’? if so then they seem to be missing from your list.
Those are feature packs, which contain features. I left features off of both lists except for LFG and cross server stuff since that revolutionized the MMO genre starting with WoW.
I also did both lists in compact form. I used the same form for WoW and GW2, GW2 just didn’t add nearly as much content as WoW did in the same time frame. You are welcome to type out an expanded list, just make sure you use the same format when you type up the comparison list for WoW. I don’t have enough time to type out the pages and pages it would take. I mean each zone in WoW contains a full LS worth of story and content through their quests, with special instances, voice over etc, just as GW2 LS does. The difference of course being that WoW released 10 seasons worth of that in 2 years as opposed to 2.
Of course looking back I left a couple of things off the WoW list. They also added in a new crafting profession and expanded all existing crafting professions (as opposed to just 3/4 of them like GW2)
They seem to follow a six month time frame. So next one would be in March. Why would you think there’d be one between now and the start of the next Living story episode?
Especially since the only reason for the break is so that the people at anet can spend the holidays with their friends and family.
Man I wish I got 6 weeks of vacation…
I do not understand why ArenaNet are deliberately trying to kill this game!
Almost ZERO content has been added since release, and any content that is added is either finished within an hour or removed.I do not understand why you feel the need to deliberately post false statements!
If he’s going to argue that there’s no content, the least you could do is back up your response. Cause’ right now you’re going to lose this battle my friend.
Technically it’s up to the one stating there’s a lack of content to post their evidence as they’re the one who made the argument first.
My friend, you are not diving deep enough into this argument. Look forward not back.
Yeah… Still doesn’t change the fact that it’s not on him to provide the evidence. Arnath stated that almost zero content was added without provide any proof and mtpelion challenged it.
If you want, I can state that the state the Earth is flat, have you challenge this, and then say that you must prove me wrong.
You can’t prove that something doesn’t exist, how would you do that exactly? It is up to you to prove that there has been a substantial amount of content added.
Like this:
In the first 2 years of WoW Blizzard released:
8 new dungeons
5 new raids
10 new zones
1 new race
500+ quests
6 PvP maps
2 PvP modes
10 new levels
20+ new skills
50+ new talents
LFg system
Cross server system (first of its kind ever)
4 FestivalsWoW is considered the golden standard of MMO’s, your job would be to show that GW2 does indeed release a similar amount of content. (Hint: it doesn’t).
Ahh yes the old use a logical fallacy to end the argument when you lose….
Here I’ll start for you:
Number of zones added: 3*
New zones are 1/3 the size or smaller than original game zones
Number of new races: 0
Number of new classes: 0
Number of new legendary’s: 0
Number of new dungeons: 1
1 dungeon also removed
Number of new raids: 0
Number of new quests(DE’s): ~50
LFG Added
Fractals Added
New PvP modes: 1
Removed from rotation
New PvP maps: 3
One removed, one removed from rotation
Number of LS episodes: 29*
**22 removedNote: This was over 2.5 years as opposed to WoW’s Two years
Would you say that GW2 released a reasonable amount of content in those 2 years as compared to WoW?
Sorry but those items are not the definitive list of what counts as content. Those of us playing since release have experienced a wealth of content rather than the argued “almost zero”.
Wait.. hold up My friend. I’d like an explanation of what you define as “content”. I’ve been playing since release my friend, and I do not feel that there has been a wealth of content. Prove me wrong.
You know all of that which we did during season one? That was content. Content is more than just that list you posted. Whether permanent or temporary, content is still content. The Nightmare Tower, Scarlet’s Playhouse, Queen’s Pavillion, Assault on LA, and so on were all content. The story instances of season two were all content as well. The statement that there has been “almost zero” content is false.
I included all of those in the list under LS episodes.. Unless you are arguing that they weren’t removed… if so please point out where I can play them?

Umm that is literally ALL the content added to this game since launch… Did you want me to include bug fixes and balance? I’m not sure what else you would count as content?
I suppose I could add in armor and weapons… but 80% of those have been gem store exclusive and since WoW adds new armor for each individual class for every raid and multiple dungeon sets, and open world sets… well lets just say it wouldn’t help the comparison…

Interested to see how this plays out in the new general discussion as opposed to BLTC… it’s like two experiments in one.
Let’s say there are some fields that kids like to play on, and Marty wants to play Soccer (football for those of you outside the US). The sign outside the fields says that you can play whatever you want, and so Marty goes over to the kids playing baseball and says that they should all play soccer. The kids tell him that they don’t want to play soccer, they want to play baseball. There are some kids a few fields over playing soccer, but instead of going and playing with them, or finding some other kids to play soccer with, he keeps arguing with the kids who want to play baseball. “The sign says I can play what I want, and I want to play soccer!” He tells the other children, and so the other children ignore him and go back to their game of baseball. Marty tries to play soccer on the same field as the children playing baseball and runs into another child. The children kick him off of the field they’re playing on, and go back to their game. Instead of going and playing soccer with the children who are still playing soccer, he goes to the parents, and tells them how the other children are bullying him and excluding him. The parents scold their children for excluding poor Marty. Marty still isn’t satisfied, and demands that the parents make their children play soccer with him. What do you think the parents are going to do?

Save up the breach parts, and don’t open them until the patch finally comes. You should be able to save up 100+ of each of the 4 breach parts in that time and get the armor completed on patch day.
Guys it’s christmas, what is going on. Everybody will be on vacation, including the dev. Did you really expect them to make a update on december 30? Really????
No we expected it December 16th… when it should have been.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/season-2-returns-on-january-13/
confirmed… they can’t even keep up with 2 week releases for more than 3 in a row now. So much for releasing more content than the competition.
Underwater content is being removed, there is no way they would add more…
PvP… removed 100%
WvW… removed 90%
PvE… removed from starting areas and somewhat through LS
Weapon skins… removed from all new weapon skins
I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
The past 7 trailers were all posted by this time… no trailer this week = no patch next week?
I know people had been speculating that wintersday might replace the final LS patch… is it official now or is Anet just asleep on the job?
Edit: Confirmed, delayed for PvP:

This seems like a good idea. I’m going to try for 10 of each part before the next release. I already have 10 troll bags and 8 tormenter bags, i’m still opening teragriff bags since I need one more bladder piece still.
Luckily the gland and the heart are not specific to the kill, they are just generic, so at worst we will just need one of each.
Well Anet should end it with the dragons awakening. We should see him, he should unleash massive destruction across all of Tyria, and launch an all out assault. That is what happened with all the other dragons that awoke before the game launched.
What will actually happen is that we will find the egg and then CLIFFHANGER@!!!!!!
In the end someone will have to do the defenses to move the meta event forward anyway. You can’t just jump from maps to maps to get breaches. At some point you’ll run out the map readied.
People taxiing are just leeching other’s work to finish some useless collection faster. Why can’t some enjoy doing a defense for the sake of doing it, instead of doing it to be the first to obtain some ugly shiny pants ?
Because we’ve been doing the same exact defense events for 6 weeks straight and ANeet just keeps heaping on more and more RNG?
Unfortunately in a few hours your post is going to be deleted in the reorganization. Will you repost in general?
Well we lost, getting merged today it seems…
Just run it with a friend. let them kill the boss while you hide in a corner if it is giving you that much trouble.
I bet you invested in Candy Corn
Considering the devs said that there was over 4 BILLION candy corn in circulation, there will be no effect on the market. That is enough candy corn for every account ever made to get the maximum number of 20 slot bags.
Man they must be in pretty deep financial trouble if someone going on vacation can delay something for 2 years.
Colin’s reply to you from a year ago -
Is there any sort of timeline on this? It was first stated over 6 months ago I believe. Is this something that is going to happen in the next few months? 6 more months? A year? 10 years? Obviously you can’t give us an exact date, but some sort of rough timeline would be nice.
We’ve learned we really can’t give timelines, since if we’re ever wrong a mob comes after us with torches and pitchforks
I can say we started designing this, and realized the proper (not hacked in quick) solution needs to be a part of bigger systems that more clearly directs players as well as ties in comprehensive rewards for playing across our game world, which we’re currently working on right now.
Some small parts of that comprehensive plan for game reward systems are already rolling out this month with the updates to WvW rank rewards.
For more details of our high-level strategy, feel free to check out:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-on-guild-wars-2-in-the-months-ahead/
So many great ideas…I wish I knew what happened to that Anet…
I invested heavy in mini’s when they announced the changes to them. I was up nearly 500g then I got over confident and lost it all.
I also sold my 20 stacks of ancient bones for 1.5s which I bought at vendor price after launch. I figured that was certainly the highest they would ever go…
I bought a lot of candy corn this Halloween since there were so many good sinks I thought for sure it would rise… but nope… still hanging onto that though.
I invested in thick leather and lots and lots of jewels since the devs promised that 500 crafting and precursor crafting would 100% be in 2013… still have all that stuff… still waiting…
I decided to mix things up and do some PvP this weekend. I’m tired of grinding crests for boot boxes. I figured i’d do the SW reward track and pick up a boot box at the end of that. It takes a little longer than grinding out 1000 crests, but at least it is something different.
However when I hovered over the end reward it says it gives a glove box?!?!? Why would I want a glove box? Gloves are the easiest piece to get, I literally have 9-10 of them already. Why does the reward track only reward a single piece instead of my choice of a piece? Is this a bug?
As Colin said a year ago -
You will absolutely see a way to create a precursor available in the future. As detailed in our plans for the second half of the year here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/
As mentioned at the end of the blog, as always things are subject to change as test and prepare various systems. Most of the stuff covered in the blog you’ve already seen implemented, or steps towards being implemented, however the precursor building (and corresponding additional legendary items) is the one highest at risk to not make it this year.
It is still something we absolutely plan to do!
and from 3 months ago -
- These lists would have no definitive time frame when they would be updated. Iterative development can be fast, it can be slow (hi precursors!) and sometimes priority’s can change over night based on player feedback, company needs, or even things that occur due to staffing changes from illness, vacation, etc.
Man they must be in pretty deep financial trouble if someone going on vacation can delay something for 2 years.
I know they said the next feature pack was supposed to be very veteran focused. I would think it will probably come with the next feature pack if it is coming. I also suspect that the main draw of jewelcrafting will be appearance modifying jewelry instead of stats, since most people have the stats already.
They disbanded the dungeon team and flat out said they had no plans to work on dungeons… I don’t know how much clearer than that they can make it…
I don’t know why people bother to jump from breach to breach… you still have to do 100000 defense events because you need 4000 crests for boot boxes and the amulet. You will have 50 bladders by the time you manage to get that many crests.
no, this is wrong on both counts. #1 you make more than enough badges from the few T3 defense events just before a breach, breaching/selling body parts, and the labyrinth. I have thousands saved up right now for next episode and I only have 1 spleen, and I’m missing 1 bladder. so that’s 4 parts still.
Secondly, you can get leg boxes by repeating the story on alts, and you can get boots by having high magic find and bandit chest farming during time out. I found all 3 of my boot boxes in about an hour and even got a few more boot boxes just to salvage for ecto.
A t3 defence event nets me 3-8 crests… the body parts give me 15 crests, but cost 12 crests to get… so a net of 3…. i’ve opened ~100 bandit chests, which since the nerf only give back 1-2 crests, but cost 5, so i’ve lost ~300 crests from that and not a single box.
So not really sure what you are talking about…
you can always get at least 25 for body parts.
if youre giving them away for only 15, the cryptobotanist is stealing from you and you need to wait until he has a better offer for the specific part you have.dont let that rat get away with theft.
Does his position effect what he gives? or is there some other variable? I did notice that sometimes he would give 25, but it is usually only 15.
I think teragriffs are punishment for ele’s doing that to NPC’s for 2 years…
on a more serious note, yes they shouldn’t stack, and they also should either have their damage range reduced or the animation increased, because you currently take damage from huge distances outside the animation.
I don’t know why people bother to jump from breach to breach… you still have to do 100000 defense events because you need 4000 crests for boot boxes and the amulet. You will have 50 bladders by the time you manage to get that many crests.

Courtyard is the only map worth playing right now, I hope we see more maps like this in the future.
To be far all teaser images have the name of what I would guess is a ls chapter that we haven’t been given yet.
“Point of no return” is the name of the season.
I don’t know why people bother to jump from breach to breach… you still have to do 100000 defense events because you need 4000 crests for boot boxes and the amulet. You will have 50 bladders by the time you manage to get that many crests.
The only statement this item brings is a glimmer of hope that we are not getting the VIP system here.
With how broken LFG currently is they are most likely not doing it on purpose. I joined 10 groups last night that i had no intention of joining and immediately left.
Looks like another new armor set?
and new hair style?
the fact that to is underlined is also probably important, but I have no idea why.
I like that creature whatever it is.
edit: also that looks like a new zone, it is much denser jungle than either Dry top or SW.
The inquest isn’t a rouge group of evil doers… They are an official part of Asuran society, many of their experiments are sanctioned (though many are not). Also in the flashback it was not an inquest base but one of the schools research labs. There isn’t anything to reveal to anyone, they were legal experiments.
I personally think the slyvari should go to war against the asura and wipe them out
Glad to see someone likes the glowing effect. I find it particularly annoying and wish there was an option to turn it off. Why l find it so annoying is that there are SO many more important UI changes that need to be made, just to bring Gw2 up to Gw1 standards such as a return of the fully customisable UI of Gw1 such as the ability to separate tabs such as the inability to separate chat tab and combat log. For Wvw tyhis is particularly annoying. Sigh for the days when one could resize every element of the UI. at will.
There is… click the little wheel in the top right of your inventory and click “hide new item flash”
The thing that ended up helping me the most was turning my graphic downs to the lowest setting possible. All the annoying flare and shimmers and crap that Anet puts on the screen dissapears on those settings. The sandstorms are REALLY easy to see with low graphics settings, which makes them much easier to avoid.
ANet can barely get a 15 minutes LS chapter out in two weeks and some people still expect an expansion at this point. That said, there is tons of work which goes into that 15 minutes of content….
But up until now, EoTM is still the best piece of content we got since the game was launched 2 years ago which they said it took 1 year of development. The living story drives the gem store business model and that will not change….
Edit: I honestly don’t understand why ANet doesn’t just come forward and announce that there will not be an expansion and put an end to all these discussions…
Not sure where you get the “barely” and the 15 minutes figure from… other than to be trollish.
The barely probably comes from the fact that they can only keep that pace for 4 releases before they need a 16 week break.
The 15 minutes comes from the total instance time if you exclude the dialog and only include the parts where you are actually playing the game.
I personally think the dialog and lore are pretty good, but many people just want to play, not listen.
