I think some people seem to believe Guild Wars 2 has been out a lot longer than it has. Considering the time it has been out we have had alot of small updates and some big patch’s. Yes we need a big expansion, but as I posted above 2 years is pretty normal for these games.
Except we are at 2.5 years, and there hasn’t even been an announcement yet. Usually the announcement is 6 months before launch. At this point we are looking at slightly over 3 years before the first expansion. But there is the possibility that Anet is going to launch it very soon after an announcement in which case it might be sooner.
Wierd how this didnt make it over here yet.. but the plot thickens
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2s9jp8/ncsoft_registers_trademarks_for_guild_wars_2/
Wow, that could be pretty cool.
I’m convinced, expansion it is! Looks like we will be getting all of magnum jungle.
The hype train just got rocket boosters! All Aboard! Next stop, Expansion station!!!
The problem is that they will split their community in 2 segments, those who have the expansion and those who don’t. Not sure how that can work in competitive settings. They can certainly lock explorable zones, new classes, but can they lock new pvp maps and new items?
Traditionally in other MMO’s if you don’t purchase the expansion you are level locked and can’t access the new zones (and thus can’t get the new gear), however all other aspects are usually available to existing players, including new classes and races in some cases (not not always). I’ve never heard of not being able to access PvP due to an expansion.
Lets say they confirmed that they’re currently working on an expansion and nothing else.
I’m not into the whole lore or living story stuff, but, what are the odds of us going to Cantha?
If I had to guess from the last trailer, we might be getting Elona (Crystal Desert -> Desolation -> Vabbi) before Cantha.
Then again, there’s that Jade Sea block too, so who knows, maybe the Dragon will awake and fly away to Cantha.
Cantha is pretty much 0% chance. They had to remove the Cantha district in DR before china would negotiate allowing them to release there. Chances that they allow the entire Asian continent to be added to their game is <0%. Chances that anet spends a crap ton of money developing an expansion that can’t launch in China is also 0%. They already had to modify a bunch of content to remove skulls and death references since those were forbidden in china as well.
If we do see an expansion, I bet it will be for the jungle if it launches this year, or for Elona if it launches next year.
They are unlikely to stop you. But if you get scammed, cheated, or screwed over, they will not replace your item, or help you in any way.
This thread should be renamed as it’s misleading. Everyone is posting expansion and/or 2015 predictions rather than predictions specific to tomorrow’s update.
The thread title is about as clear as can be. I think people are posting 2015 predictions because the OP’s expectations for the patch are so absurd that people just figured he meant his expectations for all of 2015… which in and of itself is a sad commentary on the state of the game…
The only thing I’m hoping for is that we get to SEE mordy for the finale. It was really lame that we only saw zhatian for 30 seconds before we killed him.
Oh you forgot about the huge outcry when they showed zhaitan in the release trailer?
To be fair there is a pretty big difference between the release trailer and the last second of the final battle.
Though I don’t actually recall that outcry… why didn’t they want to see him in the trailer? You should know what you are fighting, and it fits the story since he came and destroyed a whole bunch of stuff years earlier and everyone saw him then.
You guys have gotten way off track. No one is denying that condi specs are useful in PvP, this thread was solely about PvE. They have no correlation at all. The devs are perfectly capable of splitting the way conditions behave in PvE vs PvP vs WvW since they have already done it with confusion.
The only thing I’m hoping for is that we get to SEE mordy for the finale. It was really lame that we only saw zhatian for 30 seconds before we killed him.
If you want to make money then convert your gems back into gold. it will take you ~4000 watchwork sprockets just to break even on the pick. at ~15% chance that is ~26,000 swings or 8600 nodes. Just get the one that you like the best, you will never make money from either one, it is solely for cosmetics.
You people keep using this nonsense excuse when the reality is that it is a poor move resulted from poor planning. We just had 5 weeks of nothing and will probably have 2-3 months of nothing after this. Yet people will keep claiming an imaginary 2 week content release schedule regardless.
I had loads of stuff to do during that time.
With Wintersday and quite a bit of new rewards and so on. Claiming there was nothing is false.I also question if you would actually prefer to have to potentially wait weeks for potential game-breaking bugs being fixed due to people not being at work, if they released it before the christmas break?
Even when they are at work we get stuck waiting weeks for game breaking bugs. Your point is invalid. And no, wintersday was a repeat of last year. There was nothing to do, please don’t make kitten up.
This is clearly a personal issue. I had stuff to do during that 5 weeks. Therefore, my experience invalidates yours. Unless you would like to retort with your experience invalidating mine?
There was NOTHING NEW to do. full stop, end of discussion. That is just a fact, there is no invalidating or experience or anything else. It is an indisputable fact that there has been nothing new to do for 5 full weeks.
And so what if people were busy for the holiday? the releases are permanent, you could have come back from holiday and then still played it.
I think you’re spinning pretty hard…
you completely missed the expansions that WoW launches every 18 months or so, and you clock in GW2’s releases as every 2 weeks, even though we only had 7 LS story episodes and 2 feature patches over the entire year…
So really it is closer to 3 to 1, not 6 to 1, and then you have to add in expansions where the bulk of the content comes from.
When you add it all together GW2 comes up short. In a typical expansion WoW adds 10-12 zones, with each zone containing an entire self enclosed story arc, with an additional continental story arc. The zone arch is equivalent to what we have gotten as LS seasons(10-12 hours of story missions/quests), except WoW launches them 12 at a time. So at the current pace it will take GW2 12 years to launch the same amount of content as 1 WoW expansion, excluding total zones, dungeons, raids, additional classes, additional races, additional weapon skills, additional traits, and additional PvP content.
So no… I don’t think it is the pace, I think it is the amount.
People really should keep in mind that ArenaNet have said a grand total of nothing about this as far as I am aware.
The only reason this thread exists is due to the fact that someone saw that they had a scheduled appearance on the PAX homepage. ArenaNet themselves have however not even mentioned it.
They reserved the largest room for the longest amount of time of anyone at the conference… if that isn’t hype then what is?

A stopped clock is at least right twice a day.
They just use logic, data, and market trends to make their forecasts…
Anet I’m pretty sure just relies on a broken magic 8 ball to tell them what to do.
Wildstar gets what it deserves for the dated solutions and most of all horrible fps issues in a game in which gameplay is very dependant on smooth framerate. Lesson to be learned for future mmo releases.
one thing that I fear is that there will never be a game like it. Finally there was a difficult MMO on the market aaaaand it died. Yeah… So much for variety.
It just proved once more that not a lot people really want to have overly hard content
and that raiders and elitists are simply a minority even if they don’t want to believe
it because they are overly represented at most forums. Also @ANet .. take that at a hint that EQ-Style Raids is the last thing we need to “save” the game.
I loved the difficulty of that game… it was the FPS, crafting, and super overtuned unnecessary grind that drove me away from it.
If they had made it convenient yet difficult then I would probably still be playing it.
On Topic: These are just baseless predictions, It would be the same as if I said the same thing. If they do have knowledge that we don’t then they will be in jail very shortly.
Creating a condition damage offensive set? You mean sinister? Done.
Who would have guessed that a high ramp-up time damage tool would get shifted out of a speedclear meta.
Except that sinister increases condition damage just as much as rabid gear does. The primary problem is that conditions only scale with 1 stat, while zerkers scale with 4 stats.
The only thing that increases condition damage is condition damage.
Condition duration: capped at 100%, achievable solely through food traits and runes, no gear needed. Additionally not useful anyway due to condition cap.
Precision: conditions don’t crit so no effect. Most classes have an apply condition on crit trait, but again due to condition caps has no practical effect except in solo play.
Weapon damage: No effect on conditions
Power: No effect on conditions
Ferocity: No effect on conditions
This leads to zerker scaling VERY strongly with stat increases, while conditions don’t scale at all. Remember unlike power based builds, condition damage only adds 1 dps for each 20 condition damage stat you get. If you increase your condition damage by 19 you do NO extra damage.
Hybrid builds do benefit from the other stats, but pure condition based builds do <300 dps from direct damage and gain next to no benefit from anything that isn’t condition damage.
Got my bingo card ready!
Might want to mix those up a bit… there is pretty much 100% chance that vertical rows 2 and 5 will happen in the first 10 minutes of the presentation lol.
Conditions are broken in multiple ways.
1. Less dps than power builds. Even if you have maxed might, maxed condi dmg, and 100% uptime of max stacks of every condition (not even theoretically possible currently), you still do ~30% less dmg than a power build.
The problem is the stacking of conditions because not only that the game is tracking the damage from buff, it also tracking the number of stacks and the duration. By removing the stacking, Anet can tweak the condition damage by adjusting only the damage and duration. Applying the same condition should only extend or refresh the condition. The stacking really needs to go so they can normalize the damage to match the DPS of power builds.
In a boss fights, the similar conditions will stack, only to save space, for each player applying the condition but will not overwrite each other. So a Power Warrior will not overwrite the bleed condition of a condition build since they will have their own icon in the stack.
Allowing multiple stacks from one person will reach that 25 stack limit rather quickly as we see today. If each person can only have one stack, the game will have an easier time managing the conditions during a boss fight.
This is how pretty much every other MMO on the market does it. Not sure why Anet decided to go with a more complicated, less effective, more bandwidth expensive method instead… it is one of the weirdest decisions of the game imo.
You learn something new every day… fascinating…
Hello guys! Here is my contribution to the hype:
I wrote a message to WoodenPotatoes about this earlier and decided to post it here aswell.I have found two things that I noticed in the trailer (point of no return) that is of special interest.
1. In the sequence where they show the basement in the durmand priory, the wooden boxes in there actually have some very interesting new krytan written on them. For example I have begun to translate text on the boxes next to the jade wurm thing as follows on different boxes from top to bottom:04
OCT31ST
LIVE CONTENTS
425(then on a vertical box there are some hard-to-read text, that I am pretty sure has the readable word sequence “…….O..IK” which I thought was supposed to be “KRALKATORRIK” if the left out words got into place. I supposed that was yet another teaser as to the Crystal Desert speculation as seen of in the trailer with the ascension runes and the ghost etc.
Further more about the “OCT31ST” and “LIVE CONTENTS” (yes I promis that is the translation feel free to check for yourselves) that I am certain is written on the boxes, I got like a realizating that, that might actually be the date – October 31st – of a future expansion release, as I could not link it to any actual in-game stuff (is this what Colin will announce next week?)
There is more boxes with new krytan that I did not have time to translate in the sequence with Ogden also.
2. Secondly, I noticed what seemed to be a charr waving his tail atop a pipeline, at 0:28 in the trailer, just to the right of the airship. Might that actually be Rytlock?Looking forward to your thoughts! //Molmir
Elona here we come!!!
Based on last year we will get this episode, then a break until the end of February at which point a feature patch will launch, followed by another WvW season in march, with another feature patch hitting in early may, with S3 starting in late june/early july.
At least that is what happened last year.
Conditions are broken in multiple ways.
1. Less dps than power builds. Even if you have maxed might, maxed condi dmg, and 100% uptime of max stacks of every condition (not even theoretically possible currently), you still do ~30% less dmg than a power build.
That is assuming a necro with terror, 100% fear uptime, 100% 25 stacks of torment (currently 3 is the max), 100% 25 stacks of bleeding, 100% burn and 100% poison. It is closer to 40% less dmg for non necros.
Secondly there is the problem of overwriting conditions. For some reason the devs let power users have conditions as well, and the last applied condition bumps out the previous condition, meaning a warrior with 0 condition damage will quickly overwrite the bleeds of a necro with 2200 condition damage. meaning in any groups more than 2 your dps is reduced even further, to ~90% less than a power build.
Finally there is the problem of gear scaling. Going from full exotic to full ascended zerker gear (armor, weapons, trinkets) gives a zerker ~21% more dps. Going from full exotic to full ascended rabid gear gives a condition build ~5% more dps.
I actually really enjoyed the trading system in SWG. That was the only game I enjoyed something like that though, they did crafting and selling right. Never played another game that even came close to that.
It would certainly not work for GW2 though. The world is too small, the economy is not varied enough, and there is no reason to have a shop since every item is exactly the same.
It should be noted that all the above information is for 100% power builds.
Condition builds are multiple tiers lower DPS and are not viable at all in PvE in any situation. Condition builds are fairly useful in PvP, but much less so than they were a year ago.
The problem is mostly that condition DPS is capped at 60% of top tier DPS with it being physically impossible to improve. It also suffers from poor gear scaling, and conditions being overwritten by power builds.
For example, upgrading from full exotic gear to full ascended gear for a zerker player offers a ~21% dmg increase. Doing the same for a rabid geared player offers a 5% dmg increase.
“We’ll expand all crafting professions to allow them to reach a new milestone: 500 points!” – NOPE
Yep
- Armor-smith, Leather-worker and tailor increased to 500 on December 10 2013
- Weapon-smith, Artificer and Hunts man increased to 500 on September 3 2013.I hope you’re not suggesting that because there are still 2 professions pending the other 6 they did do not count.
Its worth noting that, “ALL,” is not synonymous with, “some,” or even, “most.” In fact it is completely contradictory. Not, “all,” crafting professions have been expanded, which was the claim, even if some or most have been.
To be honest I am not quite sure it would be a good idea to increase those two anyway. Does anyone actually like the idea of ascended food / ascended jewels (that you plug exclusively in exotic items…. hmm)
So now not giving us content is a feature that is actually better… Do you even hear yourself? I think you should take a step back and seriously consider why you think you need to go to such great lengths to defend Anet.
They failed to deliver. Not by a small margin, it has been more than a year since those things were promised. A year in MMO time is a HUGE amount of time. Most MMO’s only live 4-5 years before going into maintenance mode.
People have different definitions of “leaving” a game. Rarely does someone who takes enough time to post their opinions on the game quit 100%. They are posting because they want to make the game better. They “leave” in the sense that this may no longer be their primary game, or they may only play 1/10th of what they used to. It rarely means that they don’t ever log in at all.
I asked that before the holidays but nobody gave me an answer. Where did Anet announced that episode 8 would be the end of season 2???? That the last update where we gonna have luminescent armor, but that’s it no? I don’t know, maybe there is something that I miss.
For me, its only gonna be the last update in silverwaste. My guess is that on january 20, we will have a new map, farther in Magguma waste.
It was announced today with the teaser trailer:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/trailer-point-of-no-return-begins-january-13/
“The time for truth has come: the “Point of No Return” release brings Season 2 of the Living World to a finale on Tuesday, January 13.”
You have to understand that people in the working world are not robots, though it does feel that way sometimes..
I was under the impression that Anet was staffed entirely by various “-O-Trons” who worked on whatever task was given as their first name.
So we are just finishing up the 4 week Holiday break, next week is the end of Season 2… will season 3 start up 2 weeks later or are we going to have one single patch and then an 8 week break again?
I sure hope we don’t have another long break. There have been plenty of breaks, and plenty of time to develop content.
The poison bubbles do heal it. It’s a very noticeable heal when you only have a few players doing it.
Are you sure this is not 1 or 2 players coming/leaving causing the event to rescale and his health change? This is a common problem with group events when people bounce around.
Here’s my theory:
Rytlock completes the rite of ascension, with the help of Turai Ossa, in order to speak to the human gods. They grant him the status of Envoy so that he can lead the souls of the Ascalonians to the underworld, but this comes at a great cost. Seeing the human gods causes Rytlock to go blind, and his new position as Envoy means that he can never fully return to Tyria.
Interesting theory… but I can’t imagine a single Ascalonian allowing their soul to be brought to the underworld by a Charr… Like ever…
SO basically everything they did before launch… your list has not a single thing that came after launch… sounds about right
I agree with your list. I would also add that the CONCEPT of a story driven living world is something they got right.
The first year of festivals were also fun, the second year was decent as well. The third year got the rewards better, but the content is now stale.
The idea of fractals was also something they did well, but they killed them with their “revamp” and stopped adding new ones on a regular basis making them become stale as well.
Anet has very good ideas, they execution seems to fall flat sometimes though.
They never said absolutely
13:37 (not leetspeak, a timestamp.)
As to the update, as mentioned in my previous post I am glad that the system has been delayed (hopefully to get it right).
seem to me like absolutely in this case was referring to having support for precursor crafting not that they’re release it absolutely in 2013.
Transcript:
“the other thing you will see this year is the ability to build precursors. It’s not going to be next week, it will probably be you know as we get closer to the end of the year but we’re absolutely going to have that support so that you can make your own precursor and feel like you’re making progress putting one of those together. Very likely its going to be through crafting we haven’t completely finalized that but I think that’s more then likely where that’s going to drop in. "
still kudos for tracking down that interview its something very hard to do ! I am impressed.
I dunno it’s been 18 months since they said it was coming in 2013, and 9 months since they last gave us an update…
I mean the entire game was built in 5 years… they have added staff since then, and it has been 26 months since they first said they were looking into solutions for precursors… They could be in beta of Precursor wars 3 by now if they made an entire new game of it…
To be fair people have been speculating about a marionette style boss in SW since the map was released and we could see the three lanes. So I wouldn’t really say it is impossible or even unlikely that something like that might happen.
I heard about the speculation but I find it a weird time to put it in the game now when people have been requesting it for a long time. Don’t get me wrong imo the marrionette would be a perfect example of a ’’harder’’ worldboss that requires people to split up and not just to zerk stuff down by standing at some dragons feet or that takes ages because you need to blow up an ice wall with +30 pact zookas.
Nothing was “hard” about the marionette fight… I don’t think anyone ever failed the lane part… the hard part was you had to rely on noobs in blues and greens to do the platforms and they died 90% of the time.
Looks like we will finally get that lane fight that has been set up since episode 1. And maybe a new world boss!?!?
I’m excited to see what’s behind that magic door…
I seem to recall the precursor thing as being, “absolutely,” in 2013, not last year. Even so I think the given reason for putting it on hold is perfectly valid. The reward system in GW2 is sufficiently poor as to make me want the company to be very careful when implementing any changes. I would much rather they got it right than see another trait change situation, “you guys asked for changes so here is something worse than you had before.”
I wouldn’t mind some updates in the precursor thing though. Its been over a year now.
They never said absolutely to anything infact quite the opposite both of those posts include a little disclaimer:
" As always, the content above is subject to change as we test and iterate on these systems."actually last update on precusors was 9 months ago as far as I know:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/crafting/gw2-precursor-recipe-scavanger-hunt-news/first by Mark Katzback“We want to let you know that the ability to build your precursor will not be in our upcoming Feature Pack. The way progression and rewards work in Guild Wars 2 have changed quite a bit since we initially talked about that feature, and our main horizontal progression systems are about to get some additional updates in the upcoming feature pack. Because of that, we are looking into several ways to integrate building your precursor into our new updated reward and progression systems we’re working on, which is requiring additional development time and iteration. As always, we’ll share details on this system once it’s far enough along in production we’re ready to discuss it.”
Wow that’s some pretty hard spin you got going on there…
Just to fill in the things you missed (probably too dizzy from all that spinning):
“We’ll begin regularly adding new skills and traits to the game for each profession to expand your characters and builds” -NOPE
“We’ll expand all crafting professions to allow them to reach a new milestone: 500 points!” – NOPE
" I can say is you will see a specific way to build precursor items on your way to a legendary." – NOPE
“On top of this, you will also see new legendary weapons and new types of legendary gear in 2013” – NOPE
“As these additional skills and traits are added, they’ll be automatically unlocked and available for competitive PvP just like all existing skills/traits work today.” – NOPE, gotta pay for them.
“we’re building a new comprehensive “level zero” optional tutorial that teaches the core basics of the game” -NOPE… forced, and tedious…
So yeah… a few more than 2 things… and the ones that veteran players most wanted were pretty much all trashed along the way…
ouch… that’s why I only use clicking and the scroll wheel to list.
We’ll i’ve now completed ~80 breaches since the last patch. The breakdown of what i’ve seen so far is:
Blue Legendary: 8 times
Indigo Legendary: 6 times
Amber Legendary: 6 times
Red Legendary: 0 times
Not sure if he is completely bugged or just much much rarer, but either way it seems the Red legendary does not spawn at the same rate as the other 3.
They are also currently bugged and can be killed in 3 hits if the oil pots are used on them, so there is clearly a problem somewhere.
So your argument is that WoW released…
player housing
new raids
20 new dungeons
an entire CONTINENT of content
new abilities
new gear
new mechanics
new PvP stuff
and wow players are complaining that this isn’t enough content so they will come to GW2 instead… is this really your argument???
I don’t think this is a big concern… we will almost certainly face Jormag, Crystal dragon, and primodious before we face the water dragon. Those 3 pose a much bigger threat since they actually live on land. Who cares if the water dragon takes over the oceans… no one lives there anyway.
Also based on current pace, we wouldn’t face the water dragon until 2027… By then you will have virtual reality water combat with real dragons.
They spend way too much on PvP. If they used all the money they have given away in PvP they could have hired another 3-4 devs to actually make some content for PvE. Instead we get constant Esports shoved down our throats, with the same 3-4 teams from each region being the only ones actually competitive.
They should really scrap PvP completely and give us some actual content for a change.
My dream feature patch:
1. Undo all previous feature patches (except wardrobe)
2. Split PvE/PvP/WvW so they can actually be balanced
3. Introduce raiding
4. Announce expansion
It is hard to say for sure. Their original stance was that there would be no more gear tiers for the forseeable future… but at that time they also said things like:
You will absolutely see new legendaries this year! (2013)
You will see new skills for every class this year (2013)
You will see new weapon combos for each class (no time frame given)
You will see other exciting methods of horizontal progression (no time frame given)
So basically nothing they have said has actually happened… so everyone is basically just guessing and hoping for what they want.
Got a vision crystal out of mine last night so can’t complain. Not that I actually have any need for a vision crystal, but hey there may be precursor crafting some day…
I log on, do my daily, check the TP and log out. I’m just in a holding patten until the LS starts again. After that I will increase my playtime again. There is really no reason to need to play right now since we are on holiday break. Once the story starts again then hopefully there will be more reasons to log on.
That said It only takes me about 2 days to do the very small LS updates then I go back into my 10 minute routine. Hopefully they add something more substantial soon.
I find it funny that you make this post when you don’t actually understand the mechanics yourself… Maybe head over to the LS forum and read about the actual mechanics instead of calling people trolls… You are failing the event BECAUSE you are using single target condition damage and there isn’t enough dps… It never used to fail before you trolls started telling people to stop doing dmg…
Here we see a troll in its natural habitat, seemingly unaware of the fact that conditions will kill the boss faster than Berserkers will.
X amount of auto attacking Scepter Necromancers, full condi will kill Copper faster than the same amount of any other combination of stat make up, with Poison and Bleeding alone. I was in an “organized” map that had almost and exactly this, with like 3-5 other professions not apart of the organization, and Copper died in about 90 seconds.
Not sure if serious… or just completely unaware of how the game mechanics work… You do realize that a single condi necro can max out bleed, and poison right? And that every other condi necro after the first is doing 20-30 dps and needlessly scaling the fight right? You need 1 condi necro (or 1 of any condi specced class) and then any after that offer ZERO benefit and should be replaced by zerker characters.
But i’m sure you knew that…
If you have 900+ SP’s to convert then you should consider the opportunity cost of actually forging them. T1→T2 fine mats can get you 60-70s per SP, but can take hours and hours to forge. T1 common mats can take hours and hours to refine if you are dealing with large quantities. Remember you can make ~12g/hr actually playing the game, so if you are spending an hour forging you should consider that a loss of 12g to factor into your profits.
If you convert 10-20 SP’s daily then the time penalty is pretty smaller, but it builds up over time. Lately I have been choosing 50s per SP with 1 minute of forging, instead of 1g per SP at 1 hour of refining/forging. Gives me more time to get out and earn money other ways and earn more SP’s faster.
Almost none of the gem store sets have legs and chests. Those take more work and can’t just be copied and pasted onto the different races by varying the sizes. The time/profit ratio is not favorable enough for them to do this.
Gloves, shoulders, head and boots are ~80% of the stuff they’ve added.
