Considering they said t hey are looking for stress testers for core parts of the expansion I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high… most early stress tests have you standing in a small area with a crap ton of other people not doing a whole lot. You probably won’t have access to masteries, or specializations, or revanent, or the story, or guild halls, or much of anything except the new zone that you are standing in.

Why is silk going up in price?

Man if you guys spent as much time playing the game as you did telling people silk is too expensive you could have finished getting all the silk you needed weeks ago.

It reminds me of those wall street protesters. If they spent as much time studying as they did sitting in tents protesting then they would have all the money they need from their high paying job.

There are plenty of ways to get cloth, and plenty of ways to earn gold. Combine the two and you’ll be able to easily get a damask a day. This thread will last longer than the amount of time it takes you to finish your ascended armor.

Solutions to silk prices.

ZudetGambeous.9573

I don’t get it… silk is only like 50% the cost of damask. Why is everyone so hung up on silk? The other mats are even more expensive, much harder to get, and have a much more limited supply. Do people just freak about because they see such a large number next to silk?

Silk is the only T5 common mat that seems to have a reasonable price. Leather is utterly useless, and mithril is pretty good in large quantities, but it isn’t making anyones main income source.

Silk needs no solution, and the only decent argument I’ve seen against the price of damask is that light needs more days to complete their armor set than medium and heavy. Up medium and heavies requirements so heavy needs 36 ore and medium needs 36 leather and then I don’t see a problem anymore.

Will streaming be more consistent?

I like the idea of the streaming client, but will it be more consistent than the current downloader? Without fail I have to restart the GW2 client 2-3 times per major patch to get the download to finish. I never lose progress or have to redownload, but it just stops downloading at random times making me restart the client.

What will happen if this happens to the streaming client? Will my game just crash since it doesn’t have the files? Is this problem fixed in the streaming client?

Complete write-up of demo masteries

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

ZudetGambeous.9573

Interesting, seems like Masteries are mostly just a disguised “attunment” system.

Raid attunements were always the worst part of raids, sad to see them making a comeback into GW2. Locking content behind attunment walls just leaves people behind, and separates players into two groups.

They will eventually be nerfed because group one will quickly obtain the attunments and think the content is too easy, while group two will be composed of mostly casuals who can not complete the content and complain it must be nerfed.

and suppose certain levels are easy to get? for instance the lost coins/badges achievement was really easy to blast through the first few tiers, and then had a steady pace afterward. i imagine the racial masteries will be similar, with people getting to the middle ground while the more dedicated will actually reach the end. (not necessarily hardcore, casual players can just dedicate to one line for a while if they wanted to.)

Exalted – the artist formerly known as Mursaat. XD (my friends comment btw)

A mastery point is a mastery point. You don’t advance specific lines, you just earn points and then spend them on whatever you want. Dulfy’s write up has the number of points needed for each line.

For example you will need to have 8 mastery points invested in to the Exalted faction in order to be able to damage boss Morden. This means that until you invest those 8 mastery points you absolutely can not progress and kill certain things in the expansion.

For the Itzel faction, you will need to invest an impressive 39 mastery points in order to pull down Wyverns from the sky to fight. This means that at least one person in a group MUST have this if the group wants to fight a Wyvern. What this means is that this will become a requirement to join groups, because if you don’t have it then you will be considered a “noob” not worth carrying.

It could work out to be ok if mastery points are easy to get, or they are only needed for a few open world encounters. But if they are tied to any new dungeons/raids/story content, then I suspect they will become a problem.

Crashes = kicked to overflow map??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZudetGambeous.9573

I get random DC’s in GW2 all the time. Not crashes, it just randomly puts me back on the character select screen for no reason. Doesn’t happen in any other game I play, and no interrupts on my internet, so I know it is a problem on Anets side.

It would be great if they allowed you to rejoin the same map if you get back in within 2 minutes. It is silly to think that someone else is going to take your spot and make a significant contribution in those 2 minutes anyway, so they might as well save your spot.

This is becoming more and more important as the devs keep making more and more map wide events with 2+ hour timers. Nothing makes you quit a game faster than losing 2 hours of progress. Generally if I crash during breach after being on the map for an hour I just log out, sometimes for multiple days.

Will HoT fix the disconnect problem?

It’s no big secret that GW2 has been plagued by disconnects since launch. It only takes 3-4s to get back into the game, but unfortunately due to the way maps are structured this generally means the loss of 30-45 minutes of progress.

Everyone knows the pain of having Teq at 5% just to have them DC and be placed into an empty map. Or being 10s away from beating VW, only to be thrown into a chest farm map. Of course nothing is worse than waiting 2 hours in a WvW queue, just to DC after 10 minutes in the map and end up at the back of the queue again…

Will HoT address this issue in anyway?

Why is silk going up in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

Silk seems to be pretty well balanced. The price has been relatively stable, and provides a consistent income of gold for many people. I’m not sure why it “needs” to be changed at all. It seems to be the best off of the common mats. If anything they need to increase the leather needed from 150 up to 400. Mithril is pretty stable thanks to MFing of rare weapons, but with precursor hunt coming they may need to also increase mithril from 100 up to 200 or even 300.

Going by that logic, then the supply of other materials is too high. Why is silk going for 539% of the cost of mithril and 2633% of the cost of thick leather? If you seriously think it’s well balanced then I suspect you either have no cloth wearing characters or have already crafted all the ascended gear you need. At that point you have every incentive to keep prices high.

It seems silk is in a good place. It is rare enough that people want to farm it, but common enough that people make money off it just by playing the game. I think the other mats are the main problem, they are not worth farming and many times people just sell them to the vendor. This indicates to me that they are the problem, not silk.

As soon as the time comes to craft your revenant’s gear you’re going to be crying. Consider that even for leather a single ascended piece requires 1500 silk scraps. Even if you’ve maxed out your collectible stack size, you’re going to have to fill an entire stack just to get one piece. Is that seriously “in a good place?”

Does anyone have an actual argument as to why silk needs to be changed, other than “I don’t want to work for it, make it easier”?

Sorry, but this is a game. When I go to work I’m working. When I’m doing household chores I’m working. When I’m playing Guild Wars 2 I don’t need to work some more. If this game is going to make me work then I may as well find another diversion. It must be nice to be in a position where your RL obligations are so few and far between that you actually crave work in a virtual world.

The supply of the other materials is too high… I thought I made that pretty clear. Mithril gets produced in the largest quantities, but forging for precursors keeps the amount in check. Once you no longer need to forge precursors its supply will quickly outpace even that of leather. leather is so oversupplied that it has been more profitable to sell it to the vendor for over 2 years now.

I will certainly not be crying. In an average 2-3 hour play session in SW I get 200-300 silk scraps. That is one ascended silk mat every day, sometimes 1 in 2 days. That means in 30 days, or only 1 month of play, I will have enough to craft an entire end game set of armor that is the most powerful gear that will ever be in the game. If anything that is too short a time. I would expect an endgame armor set to take 2-3 months like in most MMO’s. And that is without ever buying any silk, I could do it in 1-2 weeks if I bought silk with the other mats I sold.

Well if you don’t have time to play the game then don’t play the game. Don’t try and ruin the challenge and investment of the game because you don’t have good time management skills.

Lack of PVE content pre expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZudetGambeous.9573

They were bleeding players, so they are frantically trying to get an expansion out now, so it seems we won’t get any more updates until then.

Anet has never really excelled at planning. They just do random things and hope one of them works. Most MMO’s have one team working on expansions, while one team works on normal content. WoW for example has a major patch every 2-3 months, with expansions every 1.5-2 years. Of course their expansions are significantly larger than a GW2 expansion, but they also have more revenue from a monthly fee.

LS failed as everyone but Anet knew it would. Now they are trying an expansion with absolutely no other content in between… which will also fail. Eventually they will end up with the WoW model of major expansion every 2 years with patches every 1-3 months. They players unfortunately had to suffer through 3 years of them figuring this out before they get there.

I suspect in another month or so they will realize they are losing all their players and will announce that a major patch is coming to hold people over until the expansion.

Lets talk about the new boon: Resistance

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

It will depend on what the duration and CD is for this boon.

boon removal is completely useless 90% of the time because enemies spam 20s boons every 5s while the boon removals have 40-60s CD’s. This is worse in PvE, but also happens with certain builds in PvP.

Please stop spreading this false information. Only one boon removal in the entire game has a cooldown of higher than 40 seconds (save Lich Form 5’s practical cooldown), and that is Arcane Thievery. Corrupt Boon, Null Field, and Well of Corruption are all at 40 second cooldowns and are mass boon strip skills, each stripping 5+ boons (Lich Form 5 removes all boons from anyone hit). Literally every other boon strip in the game is 20 seconds or less on cooldown. Rune, sigil, skill, or trait, doesn’t matter.

EDIT: I forgot Bountiful Theft, which is a minimum of 29.5 seconds. Still much shorter than the claimed “40-60 seconds”

Claims I am spreading false information… proceeds to list 90% of the boons removals in the game and says they have a 40s CD, and names one with a longer CD…. doesn’t list a single one with shorter than 40s CD…

The only short CD boon removal I know of is thief sword, but that uses ini and can only strip 3-4 boons before the thief is then completely useless.

Of course you didn’t bother to comment at all on how boons can re reapplied repeatedly on much shorter CD’s than the removals… or how enemies in PvE apply 20+s boons with little to no CD (dredge in particular are bad like this).

I suppose there are some sigils that can remove boons more reliably, but the loss in damage is never worth it in PvE, since the enemies can still reapply the boons faster than the sigil CD.

So yeah i’m sure that i’m the problem and not the game… That’s why everyone runs boon removal in PvE all the time…

This change will wreck PvE in multiple ways. Unless you plan on completely overhauling PvE from the ground upm this change makes no sense.

Most enemies stun multiple times in short durations, or have a very short CD on their stun attacks. They were designed around the previous version of stability, it makes no sense to have it this new way

Mats are easier than ever to get. When I made my first legendary the idea of farming all the T6 mats you needed was patently absurd. There was absolutely no way you could do it in a reasonable time without using the TP…

Fast forward almost 3 years later and T6 are quite abundant and easy to get. I’m 2 months in on my farming and I have 1028 of the 2000 T6 I need for my legendary. Ectos and karma drop in droves now. I can get 40-50 ectos in a single play session if i’m lucky, and I have 4 stacks of obby shard just cluttering up my bank.

Everything is super easy to get these days, gold isn’t needed nearly as much as it was near launch.

Will conditions finally be fixed in PvE?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

The mechanics do have issues. A low condi user overwrites a high condi users conditions, completely negating their damage output.

Oh, yes that’s a problem, I thought it overwrote weaker condis with stronger ones.

Unfortunately it works in a first in first out way instead. If a necro with 2000 condition damage applies 20 stacks of bleed then a warrior with 0 condition damage applies 10 stacks of bleed, 5 of the necros stacks will be removed and replaced with the warriors.

As you can see, it is a problem even with 2 players… it becomes a nightmare in groups of 5 (dungeons/fractals) and 100x worse than that in open world content…

Plus there is the other problem that condition dps is inherently lower than direct dps. I’m not really sure why this is the case in PvE. In PvP it is because even if you escape you are still taking damage unless you can cleanse it (not really a valid argument imo, but that’s the reason apparently). However in PvE they are kitten with dps, and have a slow build up, making them fairly useless since most fights are short.

There is the other issue with gear scaling too. Direct damage scales with 4 different stats, so upgrading from full zerker exotic to full zerker ascended gives a nice 20% dmg increase. However conditions with their cap really only scale with 1 stat, meaning you only get a 5% dmg increase for the same gear upgrade.

So yeah… conditions need work… but so far they have gotten nothing.

Living world?

ZudetGambeous.9573

Living World Season 1 isn’t replayable like Living Story Season 2. The content was only available during the few weeks that it was “happening.” The idea behind the Living World was that if you weren’t online in Tyria while it was happening, then you just weren’t a part of it.

And of course by a few weeks you mean over a year.

Pretty sure none of the episodes were available for more than a few weeks, so yep he got it right the first time.

To OP: I would recommend reading up on season 1 on the wiki and then unlocking S2 once you hit level 80. The episodes cost 200 gems each (there are 8 of them), and remember there is also a gold to gem conversion so you can use gold to unlock them if you don’t have the money to pay (though it will take a while to get enough gold)

Will Bolts of Damask ever drop in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

Personally I think Damask is the only ascended crafting mat that is currently where it should be. Anet’s original goals were for ascended mats to be time gated high level crafting items that could be used to generate money for high level crafters.

Damask is currently the only ascended item that is fulfilling that original goal. The leather you actually lose money making, and the metal is essentially break even. Damask is the only one that can be crafted for a profit and has a high value associated with its high level.

Hopefully they fix leather one of these days. T5 leather has been severely oversupplied since launch, to the point that people mostly just sell stacks of it to the vendor.

It honestly appears they’re going this way, but it would be nice to get some clarity on this.

I’m also curious if resistance will replace blanket immunities like berserker stance. Will berserker stance simply be changed to now grant 4 seconds of resistance for example.

And then if they’re going to do this for the condition side of things, does that mean they’ll also do it for the physical side of things and make things like Endure Pain a proper boon? And if so, what would its logical opposite be?

I think the logical opposite of endure pain would be 25 stacks of vuln.

Slow: or how Anet screws over PvE

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

ZudetGambeous.9573

How will resistance and taunt do anything but help pve?

Resistance:

Oh you mean I will actually have to pull out my boon strip skill and use it intelligently? Oh noes!

Except a few classes will become the designated boon removers while nothing changes for the rest. Yay for roles and success-critical classes. Not.

Wouldn’t be critical to have one, just optimal. Funnily enough, the best boonstrip classes are the two almost nobody uses in PvE. It’s almost like ANet was trying to give Necros and Mesmers more of a role in HoT PvE.

No one uses boon strippers in PvE because they are worthless. You can strip a boon(s) every 50s (except thief who can do it based on their energy)… too bad PvE enemies have 5s CD’s on their boons… this means you just wasted a utility slot and gained no advantage.

Slow essentially gives you more time to dodge, move, or interrupt a skill. Of course good players can already do this with the current amount of time given, which is why all good players run zerker. They don’t take damage, so they can focus everything on dps. By increasing the margin for error with slow, zerker will be usable by even more people, making it less useful to use other builds.

My point here is not to nerf zerker, or have them not include slow. I think both of these things are fine in principal. My point is that Anet needs to overhaul PvE completely and make enemies attack faster with weaker attacks. This makes more builds viable and gives slow a better place in the game.

Lets talk about the new boon: Resistance

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

Slow is a wonderful condition that will be spectacular for pushing Anet’s esports agenda, however it is doomed to be a disaster in PvE unless all over PvE is getting an overhaul.

The problem since launch with PvE is that enemies have big, strong, slow attacks. This means active defenses reign supreme, zerker dominates builds, only DPS matters, and confusion is useless in PvE. You just burst down the enemies and dodge the occasional attack they dish out (if they live long enough to actually attack)

So Anet’s solution to this is to AMPLIFY the problem with a new condition… what is the reasoning here outside of esports?

Please either announce that all of PvE is getting an overhaul or that this is an early april’s fool joke…

You use the mastery “points” to unlock a tier, i.e. Hang Gliding.

You then gain mastery by doing anything that currently gives you XP. you will no longer gain XP, you will instead gain mastery to spend on the thing you unlocked. There won’t be any gating, or running out of points, because you can just do events to earn more points.

The downed skill, rezzes you (heals for 11k), allows you to move, then hits you for 11k to put you back down. Your health is still ticking down and you still take fall damage, so it is possible to be down, use the downed skill, and insta die when it ends.

Well I find it highly unlikely that you’ve done “dozens” of VW events. I know it can feel that way, but you’ve probably only done 8-10.

Secondly, i’d try to get your MF up higher for a better chance. 300% with 5 stacks of perseverance is actually pretty low. Shoot for 500-600% for a decent chance.

Also, if you aren’t already, make sure to use the lfg tool to hop between maps. Generally you can easily get into maps that are between 50-70% completed. You can also look for VW posts, there are generally ~5 extra spaces after breach for people, due to people logging or DC’ing.

Finally, keep at it. Remember, SW is one of the best gold farms in the game right now. Think of it as getting lots of mats for ascended armor, or legendary weapons, or just plain gold for skins. The coat boxes will come eventually.

I’m hoping they tone down the SP’s in all areas of the game…. SP’s used to be actually worth something… these days I can barely get 1g/sp, I used to be able to get 2-3g/sp.

Which Mastery will u master first?

Looks like combat and exploration will be required just to beat the zone stories. So probably those first…

Lore and Legends seem like they will be the fun ones, so those next.

How to farm Tomes of Knowledge?

Step 1: Log in
Step 2: Profit

Anet made it pretty easy now… I think you get 11-18 a month. If you want to level an alt, pop a celatration booster, and an xp booster, and a streak booster, and a birthday booster and head to EotM. You can hit 80 in 2-3 days, much faster then you could farm tomes.

If they want me to pay expansion prices then I expect an expansion worth of zones. That would be 8-12 WoW sized zones. That is the amount of content I expect. They can divide it up into how ever many “zones” they want, but that is the equivalent I am looking for.

This of course is assuming they are also including 8-10 new dungeons. For every dungeon they don’t include then I expect an equal amount of open world content to compensate.

Legendary Weapons - an appeal to ArenaNet

Honestly as long as the new legendary weapons are NOT tradable on the TP, then I will take whatever they look like.

Armor repair has no purpose anymore

Interesting thoughts here. I always think of it as a gentle reminder of my need to use care in what I do. Especially that #%@$ jumping puzzle amongst the trees… at which I died multiple times. You know, “Play more wisely.” I don’t love the runs to the repair NPC, but I don’t resent them.

It’s good to see other players’ thoughts on the matter.

Anyone else find it slightly disturbing that devs don’t know that falling deaths don’t damage armor?

The only time I ever need to repair my armor is in SW… stupid terragriffs and their nonsensical AOE, damage invulnerability, and stacking dmg kill me at least 3 times a play session.

I don’t get it… how are people saying this isn’t a lot of loot? The value of what he got is roughly ~3000g. He can buy 3 full sets of ascended armor, or a legendary weapon after just 6 weeks…

That seems quite reasonable to me….

Personal Trading.

I would support P2P trading under 2 conditions:

1. 50 gem per transaction fee to pay for the extra support staff
2. Perma ban for spamming trades in map chat

The Second Sylvari Tree ?

Don’t forget that during the expansion announcement Colin said that many Sylvari heard the call of the dragon and answered. Key word being many, not all. I suspect some were able to resist. Pretty much any Sylvari with a name was probably able to resist the call.

I hope the new legendary weapons will be account bound. If so they will actually have some meaning, instead of just being an indication that you can play the TP.

Retroactive Mastery Points?

If they are done through collections then there is a good chance it will be retroactive, most if not all collection related things were retroactive when they were added.

Anything that wasn’t a collection however has not been retroactive… so not sure.

Yes but you like many others don’t realize how the math works. I have 5% more heath your trying to get through. I have 5% more mitigation on top of that 5% more health and I’m hitting you 5% harder base plus 5% more crit etc. 5% in gaming stats is HUGE. 5% more healing anything it all compounds. In EVE people will let their characters train for months just to get another 3% on one particular skill. Because it is worth it.

Except those numbers are much lower in reality. Only 5% more damage is a correct value.

I’m not sure where you are getting your numbers, but the damage increase from exotic to ascended zerker/assassin gear is a 20% overall increase. (in lvl 80 content)

The only two sets that have a 5% dmg increase are soldiers and rabid gear, since they rely on a single main dmg stat.
