originally, combos are meant to be affected by more than 5 people. and they make it 5. but do you see in sPvP combos being used in its full potential?

its comparable to teeth being fashioned to chew meat but all that is available are protein shake.

and why is 5v5 being prioritized in a massively online played game? 5++v5++ should be the logical result.

GvG was only introduced 1 year after GW1 launched and that was only with 1 map, Warriors Isle.

WAT? LOL!

THERE WERE ALREADY GVGS and LADDER IN THE BETA WEEKENDS.

GW1 was launched April, 2005 and we were already rank #35 in Guild Ladder GvG on about December 2005 playing IWAY. BS Post. GG.

I can see it happening…

Match ends after the first team fight when there is team wipe. Next game will commence, which most likely will be cap points gain.

that is if TDM is mixed with conquest.

you should have a 20v20 mode to cater to what’s popular in the community – the deathmatch GvGs. you can easily expand on this and use the popularity of this to promote the game itself, which will in turn affect your baby 5v5 sPvP.

The community pushed for massive buffs to warrior sustain and burning for necros.

The sPvP community, which is a tiny fraction of GW2 community coz almost no one plays sPvP.

There is a community in your midst called the WvWvW Death match GvG community, which existed because of community support even without the support of the devs.

Conquest promotes builds that are conducive to win the mode.

And you know what’s that

3 capture points mean that hypothetically you just need 3 players on each point that can withstand assault from other players and let the 2 be the backup roamers if your enemy overnumbers someone from your point.

You can argue strategies can be made from this but the objective is set in stone. Capture points. Not dying. Aka Bunker builds.

With the limited skills to choose from the skill pool, you can just make limited number of bunkery builds that can kill.

Which will lead to mirror matches, long 1v1 fights and less build diversity.

I’m not saying that conquest is bad itself. But what’s bad is putting all the effort on Conquest and praising it as if it is the pinnacle of PvP mode.

We need more game modes that doesn’t promote bunkers.

You know why GW2 is selling? Not because of sPvP and E-sports. Look at the hotjoin servers and how many people are playing it.

Now, look at the PvE/RP/WvWvW population.

Why balance the game around sPvP? how about separating sPvP skills from PvE/WvWvW and balance them accordingly? Coz they are making it apprear like sPvP is the cashcow of GW2 and the priority of skill balance is from sPvP. Remember that you don’t capture 3 points in PvE and WvWvW.

The setup of skill balance in Game is crap.

Devs believe in Conquest so much that it’s almost like fanaticism. To many, it doesn’t work. People have left the game already. And I’m becoming a convert too. Now, everytime i zone solo queue now, all i see are bunker kitten builds that is meant to hold a point, op warrior and thief and kitten. And I get kitten ed. I ask myself if this is PvP. A voice in my head tells me that you need to imagine what my GW1 experience is.

The direction of build making is to make virtually all classes bunkery. Build diversity is sacrificed because of that. Killing or subverting a team is not that vital anymore.

sPvP is being pushed by the 2 Jons. It has its own community but its community is getting stale. WvWvW GvG, while not being supported officially, is very active and is being supported by the community massively. So which is meant to succeed using logic? I agree with Sacrx that people are deliberately siphoning people to play sPvP by implementing WvWvW changes that will not make GvG viable.

I’ve seen that before in GW1. Devs are putting more value in GvG than Tombs while Tombs has more players than GvG. They nerfed every popular FoTMs in Tombs to lessen Tombs population and promote GvG while doing it. It didn’t work. What happened was build diversity got hit and all you see was mirror fight GvGs and Tombs was dead.

I just wanted to get champion hunter. I got it and the momentum was on. But when I watched Sacrx video, it all made sense. All the GW1 hardcores saying that Conquest is not PvP made sense to me.

Scarx - GW2 Truth

He’s basically saying that sPvP/Esports is kitten since the beginning, WvWvW had potential to be great but certain people prioritized sPvP, skill balance is through sPvP and TPTB are deliberate in destroying WvWvW by adding Conquest-like Cap points in WvWvW map and adding Orbs which will imbalance potential GvGs.

He’s in line with the GW1 hardcores that PvP is not cap points but unlike the GW1 hardcores, he’s in the position that GvG can be 20v20.

He even gloated about TP were the sPvP golden boys of Alpha who promoted their game in the beginning, but were disgraced and disqualified in the recent events.

He’s the first guy who capped the max kills in WvWvW and A.NET even reactivate the Red Guard potion (Ascalonian Potion) in his honor.

My suggestion: Upon picking up the orb, replace everyone’s HP and toughness with a flat value, remove all traits, and replace all their skills with something like an attack, a short leap, an evade, and a heal. IE: normalize the orb carrier’s ability, so that some classes (ranger and warrior) aren’t blatantly better at it.

But yeah i agree that all the Pet Skills should be available to players. Say a separate minibar that can be hotkeyed above the utility bar. coz it appears that Pet AI uses the other skills just after cooldown.

GW1 Monk players watched bars. That’s their job.

GW2 showcases 1v1 or smaller team fights that requires micro to be successful. The only 1v1 that happened in GW1 is cripshot ranger 1v1 flagstand fight which was hot in 2005. It’s mostly 8v8 who had people redbarring and 321 spiking or sometimes split which will most of the time coalesce to 8v8 again.

i clearly remember that Tombs can go 50+ American districts when IWAY was hot. You nerf IWAY, no one plays American districts anymore and ID districts can just go on about 6 tops.

and other people are saying, “back to traps”, those bunker heal sig/lb/hammer warriors with high damage will just eat you alive.

i just tested 1v1ing a bunker engi and i got pwned hard, which was not the case during the prenerfed spirit ranger.

Ranger:

All spirits can now be launched, knocked down, and knocked back.
Storm Spirit, Frost Spirit, Sun Spirit, Stone Spirit, and Spirit of Nature will now begin their recharge when the spirit dies instead of when the spirit is summoned.
Storm Spirit, Frost Spirit, Sun Spirit, and Stone Spirit: Recharge has been reduced from 60 seconds to 25 seconds.
Spirit of Nature: Recharge has been reduced from 240 seconds to 180 seconds.
Solar Flare: Fixed a bug so this skill no longer applies a duplicate infinite duration blind.

I could certainly relate to this issue. About 7 3/4 years ago, our guild in GW1 played a sorta the petting zoo build. Easy to run, effective, can get you fame and ladder rank as well. The scenario now and before is not that different. You see people losing to the petting zoo build complaining in the forums, asking for nerfs, just how the balanced runners in tombs in the past complained about iway and asking for it to be nerfed.

So it feels like deja vu for me since i got to rank 300ish in the ladder only running my slightly modified petting zoo according to my liking.

Just like IWAY can be defeated using the appropriate build by skilled people, the petting zoo build can be beat too. I’ve been beaten by multiple classes because i was outplayed. prolly im not pro in petting zooing but you get the point. We’ve seen how CC beat the team with the most petting Zoos SYNC. if petting zoo is OP, then CC should’ve lost guys right?

But there is an issue that may arise. Should we always play the hard counter classes such as warriors? Well, traditionally warriors don’t belong in tPvP. but thanks to petting zoo, they are getting their time again. So this is the dream that most of the warrior runners are longing for. For if warriors will always defeat spirit rangers, they will be superseded. and warriors will reign supreme, until the arrival of a hard counter class vs warriors.

What’s my point? It’s just a phase. Knee jerk reaction nerfs should not happen and let the meta evolve by itself. Prolly someone is concocting their next cheesy build. I’ve seen weird builds already in Soloqueue like a ranger with an Axe offhand whirling my spirits away and bunkering the point at the same time. I even died to it twice i think. I expect more experimental stuffs from people too and hoping to see them in soloqueue.

That’s all. I’m a witness to the destruction of build variety in GW1 because of nerfing. I hope it wont happen in this game. lol.

GvG has to level up from the outdated and ancient gvg that is of gw1. WvWvW GvG 20-20 could work if they get their own instance and side objectives.

How is going from a complicated arena 8v8 system with multiple objectives (borrowing elements from deathmatch, ctf, base defense, conquest, etc) on large maps to a 20v20 deathmatch in a circle “leveling up”?

You can call it what you want but Gw1 GvG and the zergmatchs in WvW are two completely beasts that do not share any elements in common. Comparing the two modes is absolutely ridiculous (which is why it’s ridiculous to name the format in GW2 “GvG”)

its not complicated. what made it complicated is thakittens clunky, not user friendly though there were easy to run fotm gimmick builds such as iway. not fluid. you can’t even dodge. it’s based on the olden concept of trinity. you have to spike to kill. it’s formulaic. you have to perform a certain way to win. usually those who master this becomes the top team. if you look gw1 now, it’s filled with players who have played from when the top koreans and americans left. the skill ceiling aka “wasted time to master” is that high because it is not casual friendly.

wvwvw GvG is promising because it won’t be only death match if they are given their exclusive arena with secondary objectives. it could be zerg fest. but with secondary objectives, it will be played with splits or with tactics.

They can’t even get enough people to participate in a 5v5 tournament arena to have a healthy community, what makes you think they can get 40 people at any point in time to justify a zerg vs zerg arena? That arena sounds destined to die an early death. Players had trouble acquiring 8 people to put together a GvG team, I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to put together a 20 man team, let alone how unlikely it is that you would have an opponent. An arena like that would essentially be dead for half of the day the moment it launched because outside of NA or EU prime time the numbers drop off dramatically. There is already an arena in the game that allows zergs to fight each other, it’s called WvW.

The only way I can see GvG returning in GW2 is if it’s done in the spirit of GW1’ GvG – smaller teams (5-10) with an invade/defend objective. The Legacy of the Foefire map just doesn’t go far enough. Real GvG has nothing to do with zerging. Best case scenario for Zerg Vs Zerg support coming to GW2 is some kind of in-game leaderboards, an actual arena (designed for 20 man teams) sounds like a disaster.

Let’s not forget, the devs aren’t able to balance the game for sPvP, WvW and PvE even with skill splits. There’s no way they could do it with a 20vs20 arena as well.

WvWvW GvG is an active subculture of the game and there is a third party that tracks the matches among guilds.

the current problem of this GvG is that they can only face their current WvWvW matchups. but with a global dedicated instance, these GvG guilds could coalesce and have it in a solid competitive ground. the drama involved in this too is very interesting. Who’s the best GvG guild there is and what not. The more massive, the more fun. A.NET can maintain their E-Sport ambitions on conquest. But this WvWvW GvG is player based, community driven area of the game. A.NET should consider this, have their own instance and a separate guild ladder, since community driven activities are the most likely to become more popular and successful.

Food/Consumable Suggestion (Discussion)

What do you think if they change the food/consumable to per click only. Say when you double click a food, it won’t perish until the time that it exist expire and you can pause and remove the boon time if you want it. Say if you are doing WvWvW, you double click a food then it activates and when you decide to zone out of WvWvW and go to LA, you double click the food again and it will pause/remove its effect and still you still have the item, with the remaining time on the food. if the food duration expires, the item vanishes.

Prolly ascended food is good to have this feature. So yes to ascended food. yes to food treadmill!
