I’m not asking you to listen to me. I’m asking you to look at the actual math behind it.

Even if it “surprised” someone … they have to stand in Whirling Defense for 5 whole seconds. If they were willing to do that, you’d have done more damage just auto-attacking them.

Similarly, mobs just tank damage … you’re doing less damage using Whirling Defense than you are just auto-attacking.

The numbers are right there.

In my case i see them die faster.
There can be better DPS options, but have in mind that not always the best option is an straight attack. If you play ranger just make a power build and try it out.
1vx this is the way to go.
Always in my experience.

First, someone has to sit in the full duration of both of those … not likely.

Second, there are other abilities that do that amount of damage in that time or less (quite often less time).

You need to take another look at the DPS. Heck, Axe #5 does less DPS than all auto-attack [chains] except MH Axe when it only hits the target once.

Nah, actually it works first time, usually no player expects a LB ranger to do this when you in close. The base that don’t play with ranger thinks we are all bearbows. This saved me a couple of times from perma-stealth thiefs. The pet usually hit when the objetive is crippled so is added damaged.
And also is a mobs clear broom, that can help you to clear quickly map trash.

True WvW players die with a hundred loot bags and chests surrounding them.

That was…. Heroic!

I hate when that happens. Because usually it’s because we are in the middle of an enemy zerg and i can’t get those hundreds of bagssssss…

Autoloot won’t mean you get your loot once you are killed. That hundreds of bags will still be there looking at you with sad eyes…

The expansion will come out whenever it does and additional information will be published once in a while prior to that.

Just enjoy the game and try to prepare for the expansion.

I can’t prepare for the expansion if I don’t know what to prepare for

Prepare in general. For example, save up gold. Collect materials. Upgrade armor or/and get new armor which can change stats when you know what stats will be favourable with the new specialization system and just progressively prepare as more information gets out.

First, There’s a little button on the bottom right of every post. Its a little black arrow, click it to quote. DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING, the forums will do it for you. It quotes properly every time, no need to edit any part of it.

Second, maxed on all the materials I’ll ever need for exotics, since there is no reason to ever go ascended, except for weapons, of which I already have several for each of my armor sets.

3rd, I have the following armor sets ::: (Beserker’s, Assassin’s, Cleric, Magix2, Rabid, and Rampager), all exotic, with the associated weapons I need for each build. I literally have an armor set for every and any situation.

No point in upgrading any to Ascended, maybe with the exception for Trinkets, and I already have several sets of ascended trinkets. (unless Anet wants to stop being lazy and release some ascended Magi trinkets…not likely)

So, there you have it. Can’t progressively prepare because I’m already prepared.

Prepare in general.

do some yoga, start eating healthier, call your parents on the phone, tell your friends you love ‘em even though they’re noobs, find the meaning of life (it might be 43, don’t trust authority). plenty of stuff to do till the expansion comes, just not in the game :P

I already do Yoga, and I run 5k every two days. Talked to my parents on wed. on my birthday, My friends aren’t noobs, I’m actually worse than them, but I still love em. The meaning of life is Ramen Noodles, not the number 42,….if only it weren’t so unhealthy.

Welp. I got nothing to do until the expansion hits, and I still can’t prepare for something I don’t know what to prepare for, still proving my original point. Anything else?

you will be able to get the same or even better stuff once the expansion comes out , anyway we all know that after that we will go back to grinding to max materials, improve armour and stuff.

Also don’t get confused with i got everything this game can provide me with this game has everithing i can hope for .
Truly this game need some work, and an expansion is nice. Let’s just hope is a real expansion and not cashing up living story ep3 + skins because they didn’t sell that much in the gem store.

At this point i vote for I’m an adult pa skill that if you use it your pet flies away looking for a new life. Thus we filled with proud become more efficient in damage and generally in everything to be in the line of the rest of the classes.
It’s not possible that my pet is still a juvenile when we’ve seen so much together. Sure it wants to make a family in its own.

This last weeks, after the initial fuzz for HoT, the game became really quiet, so much some times i don’t think we fill a world boss map.

Is there any event going on? Or did the players left?

Why do I just believe right now, that this here is just a cheap disguised try to want to see Thieves getting nerfed only more and OP is in fact just someone, who gets beaten by this kind of thieves often in PvP/WvW and disguises his inability to beat such thieves there now as an “exploit” in PvE, that is no exploit at all in the hope, that in relation to that bad and wrong comparison ANet does nerf the thief in the end??

Is it just me, who believes this…?

PS: and even if the Op really was serious with all of this, then he posted it in the wrong area… then this should belong to the bug section where it literally wil lget closed only anyways, cause it is no bug/exploit at all

Nope, it has all the looks of someone owned by a thief in PvP/WvW. Not that i play thief and actually i get killed a lot by them.

But the problem point here is not the class, the class in this case is perfect, is the enemy AI. They should improve the enemy AI so when you use AoE they try to avoid it.
That could be annoying at first but the play would get much better after that.

I agree. I actually would prefer they did away with chests entirely. There should be more gold for events like you said. Plus they should bring back drops to mobs. This way people will play what they want rather than getting on boss chest trains.

Does it sound nuts that I am bored running the same handful of events for chests? I rarely get anything beside salvage fodder from them anyway. Let’s be honest, the MF salvage grind is ridiculous. I’ll never get to 300 MF anyway. Its just another useless grind.

Even if I do manage to get to 300, I doubt anything useful will drop anway.

Not it will not. One i had like 300 something (with buffs) and i didn’t see anything particulary good. Maybe a but better materials, but nothing of mention.

Class balance and Rapid Fire

RF it’s easily avoidable. So much i can’t land more than 2 arrows in an objetive in WvW. the rest go to waste. Even with RtW trait.
I think before talking about nerfing this skill, the class need a deep overhaul to balance the skills.

This class has suffer so much hate like any other archer class in any other MMORPG, but Anet instead doing the things right chose to follow the ranting from the other classes and nerf the skills. Maybe because they didn’t have clear what ranger should be, because this didn’t happened to other classes.

So now, we ended up with a broken class, unplayable other plan exploration and even in that case the other classes outperform this one pretty easily.

Now if they do a revamp on this class and fix all the issues, then yes i could agree to look into RF (not that actually is OP but well…) . But with the class how it is now there is no point to waste resources in this.

Ranger Pets

More like anet don’t want to put the effort in to fixing…wait this isn’t a problem…it’s an unfinished mechanic!!!

Ok rephrase….more like anet don’t want to finish off the ranger class mechanic. In gw1 rangers had evolutions(stages) for their pets. Anet could take it a step further and allow pet customizability and put more effort into pet control by allowing us to utilize the whole pet bar without any automation (as one example).

Bear in mind the whole pet “evolution/breeding” (w/e you want to call it) idea can be easily expanded upon. But that’s if anet would care about doing it.

After some years playing first necro and then ranger i became to realize that the problem can’t be only the pet’s AI.
I think the real problem Anet has with the mobs in general is the algoritm they use for the pathing.
They should first fix that and then they will be able to actually make the enemies smarter, and with that our pets and necro’s minions.
But if the pet can’t calculate the way to attack an enemy it reverts to its prior state, same if you call it back (that assuming, i’m not involved in any case with Anet) .
Then it shouldn’t be really difficult to improve the pet to became smarter than a rock

So, that being said, PVE mob AI could be better. They’ve already said that they use the same code so they general mobs are NOT going to get any better (like Orr was 2+ years ago). They’ve all but flat out refused to do any major changes to mob AI, up until HoT, revamp mob AI that is…

Yes i remember.
We don’t want to pay more devs, we already have ONE! We don’t need anyone else he will have to suffice and the AI engine is not even ours so we don’t know where to begin with. Also isn’t great the dumb punching bags experience the NPCs deliver?

Pet’s are cool .Although i like them to use what i thought them to do: when to use an skill, dodge when AoE or roll on the ground when i say so.

I use to be a play tester a few years ago. Quite fun, I live in the UK and worked for a company based in NYC. amazing what you can do with the internet.

They need to test the game in their offices i guess. Probably the development servers aren’t deployed to the internet, like it should be.

Marksmanship Minor Traits

RF’s already crazy strong. It’s not being dodged because it’s the only worthwhile thing worth dodging but it’s being dodged because it will outright kill people if it isn’t. That also just breaks thieves/over-emphasizes the utility on Sic ‘Em. My RF would deal a bare minimum of 21k damage with this. That’s just totally absurd, sorry.

Are we speaking of WvW perspective?
Because if we are – I do agree. But once taken cPvP into account, you’ll see that you won’t 100-0 not even a full glass mesmer with a mere Rapid Fire. Not even under effects of Signet of the Wild.

Also… Which build using LB does include Sic’Em, again?

Anyway, my whole idea about rapid fire was to reduce all it’s cast times, cool down and damage by 30% some time ago. The biggest danger of Rapid Fire is the sigil of Air + Fire application. Not really the damage itself.

I don’t see where the danger with the sigils are. Air and Fire do the damage of a basic attack (no crit) around 1k i my build i don’t remember wrong.
This said you would get like two impacts that hit for double damage (again no crit) so for example: 1.8K impact + 900 fire + 900 air. And that is all for rest of RF because those sigils has 3-5 secs cool down.

I think RF is fine like it is now. Although i agree the minor traits are trash, i think this happens in any other class, that at least have one trait line with useless minor traits.

1] Option out of pets. Mob AI means our pets will never be good enough for some of us, mainly myself. Personally, I see this coming through a future Specialization that gives 100% DPS to the Ranger.

Actually they should improve the mobs AI because it’s almost not existent. Lately I’ve seen some nice improvements in the AI section, like the Taida’s pirates trying to get out from AoE and Son of Svanir dodging (although i could be wrong and confuse a player with an NPC ).
Improve the AI within the pets shouldn’t be too difficult.
case Fern Hound.

  • If the foe uses a channelling skill try to use brutal charge. That could be nice to see and would be amazing if your pet could avoid an stomp because it can use the skill. Remember it has 40 seconds cool down so impossible to do it twice in a row.
  • If the foe keeps running try to use Crippling Leap so won’t.
  • If in AOE dodge. Give 2 dodge with cool down and should be fine.

Otherwise use bite. There is no point to waste a brutal charge at the beginning of the attack if the enemy is not using anything we need to interrupt.
Some indicators to know what attacks are available, and which are on CD, with the boons/conditions on our pets would be wonderful also.

Will this make the pets stronger? Yes it will. But is that bad? The enemy players will have to be aware of the pet whereabouts and stop just ignoring them.

Also some kind of rudimentary skill/stats system for more variety (nothing fancy is needed) within an established parameters (bears are tanky, cats are all about damage ) would be great. Maybe i like cats, and i wouldn’t mind sacrificing some DPS for more armour or HP.

And? Taking longer to do something isn’t all that bad, its a trade-off.

So what’s the trade off? I haven’t noticed condi builds to be superior to power or crit builds as a trade off for being completely ineffective against objects.

What are the condi builds getting in return?

And taking longer to destroy an object that sits there and does nothing in return, yes, that’s bad. I can’t think of an upside there. PvInertObject is about the dullest form of gameplay possible.

Come on, the Virtue of Justice only burns bad folk, we all know that. And poison/bleeding/freeze won’t affect a barrel.
So i think is right you need like an hour to kill a barrel.

Using the game the OP did as an example, does the league of legends AI for minions/creeps in the jungle change each game? Sorry I haven’t played league for a LONG time (Think diana release).

I don’t play LoL so i can’t say. I’m just sharing what i know it’s possible to do and what would make this game less farming and grinding and more RPG. The premise of this game os a living world and i’m giving up the steps to make it so.

is it just me or is this already in game? there are already towns and waypoints captured by enemies if none defend them as a part of meta events… also be realistic, RTS AI in a MMO RPG moving NPCs to dynamically change the map? I think you should get back to Earth…

How i see it, it is really easy to do and apply even to the actual instances system. I don’t really know why it hasn’t been done yet in this game or other actual MMORPG that are now in the market, my only guess is that is cheaper to use what is done already, and all engines/systems tend to use the spawn system because is easier, much easier.

The events you are pointing to are from SW aren’t quite what I’m describing. SW and Tequal use a flag system to determine the status of the area: if you win everything is nice and clear, if you loose everything is nasty. This can be done only to events based in a location.
What i’m sharing is a system where the non pure environmental stuff (trees, rocks and such ) can be changed.

For that PvE should work similar to WvW about cities where you destroy a wall and the wall stays that way. Right now we have something like PvP where the maps and NPCs are always the same (not talking about scripted changes like lion arch, or flag system). Not because you rally the castle all the castle will look like if Jormag itself would have stepped on it.

There could keep some spawning monsters like now, everything this dynamic could be too much. However just the smart factions, the ones with hierarchy command (sons of svanir and jormag for example) could benefit greatly of this new mechanic to make it work. Also the actual scripted events could take place in the real PvE using this mechanics, resulting in a better and more intense experience for the casual and hardcore player. It’s not the same to be in a history mode just yourself than being with an army of players while siege the Evil Capitol Itchy with Taherane commanding the assault.

Also this kind of events, that are not tied to a location would stop the actual behaviour of so many players, just staying where the boss will be while AFK and when the punch bag.. i mean the world boss appear just hit 1111111111.

But as i pointed in last line: Anet should do a mayor investment in the development team to apply this instead the scripted events they are doing now, and it doesn’t seems very likely they will do it so.

In my case my money is in a game that can bring that to a game, so never is reduced to grinding for gold because of reasons .

While having some variety is good having too much soils the game. For example, boss spawn times. If you changed them every day you would never get a bunch of people there for them. Even if there was a system wide “hey everyone, teq will start in an hour” message you have people who are not logged on that would have otherwise gone. Knowing dailies is good too: if I know that one of them is to complete 4 sparkfly fen achievements I will want to get to there before teq starts so I can actually get on the map (plus get all 4 events in a short period of time).

At first the bosses events were random and there was no problem with that.
But you are right, so to solve this issue the events could be extended in time, not like now just 12 minutes should be any problem with that.
For example:

  • The MegaBoss The Itch is moving towards some location (a city or POI) to destroy it. The Itch comes out from the Main Evil Capitol Itchy and has to get to the objetive, on the way it may stop in any town or city that crosses its path to do something nasty, the path doesn’t need to be even straigth one. The RTS AI could handle this sending a massive monster or an army. Let’s says sites aren’t destroys as fast as in SW, they need time, like hours or days, to get defences down (or not depending on it’s defences and size). Basically to give time to the players to gather and organise an attack.
  • Then after it destroys the first outpost (that none realize, maybe) the players could get an alert, using the actual system we have in place to notify the new quest with an email calling in arms to defeat that evil. It could says where was spotted and the direction is going, like the guild bounties. So the guilds could organise a massive party to get there.
    And then again, for the rest there could be organized parties by the AI to hunt it down, so there could be some NPCs helping the players is needed.

Thus the events would be more meaningful because not only would be overcoming a world-boss, but also defeating him would have direct impact in the actual environment (saving towns, cities or POIs from becoming enemies). The rewards would be more fulfilling this way.

I think what the OP is asking for is for avoid the game to became tedious once you done the maps one.
Spawning events at scheduled times is an improvement over all this MMO and a source of fun, but is not enough ultimately becomes a source of grind and farm.

To allow the game to be “different” i been saying the best way is to make the game more “dynamic” . For that thinks has to change in the general environment of the game. Apply what’s is already in WvW/SW in more extensive way.

  • First, improve AI in enemies. They should fix first the pathing logaritm that looks broken, but then should be easy enough. That could make the game more fun and stop the enemies with higher life/better armor race we are in as now.
  • Make some factions that uses some kind of global AI, like in a RTS. That should include some kind of internal resources and objectives system for the factions to fight for. So we could say the AI for the humans tray to invade some territory from the char because the have a resource the AI estimate valuable. There could be the actual spawn system for the wild life and other NPC’s but this shifting environment could make the game feel different over the time, without the need to create complicate histories scripts.
  • Then the sites (cities, towns, post) could be build, grow, destroyed and rebuilt. Doesn’t need a complicated economy scripting, would be enough with simple things like while the site is there periodically grow in size and habitants up to a max. Once the reach different sizes de can get different structures like temples, shops and such.
  • Events could be truly dynamic based in movements of the AI’s troops, moving a general that could be an alternative to the actual punching bags that world bosses are now, to attack some other place with troops or alone (a dragon lieutenant for example). The players could then get the news of the attack and go to meet this foe.
  • Having all this there could be even a place where a player or guild could align for a enemy (like Mordred or whatever) faction in game making them enemies from the rest of the other factions, giving a possibilities of WvW inside the actual game.

But i realize that all this are massive changes in the game and most probably it can’t be done in GW2.

That thread got locked due to the last post (off topic lecture/name calling) I think.

The post i guess was from our white knight Sebrent i guess, ‘cos i didn’t understand.

It will get fixed when it gets fixed. A rushed fix will likely break the next time they change anything close to it. A well-done fix is less likely to break again. Learn patience.

Ok i see you keep talking trash. I am a professional programmer (i get paid for it) and for how you talk you have not clue what you are saying, so please think before you share this diamonds with us.

Now, actually the problem could be a nightmare to fix, but that depends how the libraries and routines were defined at first. If the did a mess that’s not our fault.
This behaviour should be as easy to fix as before the attack to check if the flag that control the pet status is active. That should be stored somewhere. Even if the routine is shared in some way with the other objects in game that flag should be unique and should be accessible from the routine that control the actions of the object.

There is not excuse not to have given any news or fixed this already, we are not talking about a week, we are talking now about a month. And the lead programmer/team leader should know and care enough to keep us posted or at least to inform the PR what to say.

Same with many other bugs that looks simply easy enough to have them fixed already. They don’t have people to check it out because they have their resources in HoT and only have one guy to do it all, again is not our fault. That’s not a really good way of exercising PR.

As i pointed in the other thread, while in PvE does not bother much, the strong point of this game is PvP and WvW that a pet that does not obey really breaks this class.
So you should stop insulting people and begin to listen. There is always a reason for the people complaining if there is so many (even if Anet wouldn’t acknowledge this bug)

I’ve said this in the other thread but i think here is worth saying it as well.
An optional sub that give you a discounted ammount of gems in exchange would be a solution.
You could keep playing like now, F2P and buying gems with gold or cash.
Or you could pay a 10$ sub (for example) that every month gives you 10$ worth in gems, and every 4th month a bonus of 20$ worth in gems (same as giving you 15$ worth in gems every month, but this way they avoid ppl paying the sub just once to get the discounted price)
So actually you don’t pay for just play you get something in exchange. An a bonus if you keep it.

I don’t think they need the income from subs, but in case they do i see easy enough to do an optional subs of 10$ that gives you the amount of 15$ in gems every month that is around 150 gems if i’m not wrong.
Wouldn’t need to change the prices in the gem store because it wouldn’t change much. And if you buy a lot of skins from TP maybe you would be willing to for the discounts.

hi all thank you for your answers. Actually i followed your advise and change to a power build medi guardian.
I found condi/hibrid guard seems good on paper but then again it does not work so good in real play. In PvE solo it works ok, but we know PvE is not very demanding.
Reasons i’m going for a power build and i think is better:

  • Fire condition is an particular condition. Only 9 stacks can be applied. That makes the guard in any team with an ele completely redundant. So because of that most damage is lost.
  • Damage looks good on paper (6.5K on purging flames for example) but then when you split the damage between the duration (10 secs) it’s down to around 700 dps, because how works fire condi that’s all the burning DPS you’ll do (it does not accumulate). That’s not that much having in mind that you have to sacrifice a lot.
  • The guard with almost any skill does fire damage, so you can keep the perma-burning going for the 10% extra damage with the trait. Also if you get like 1.5 secs with virtue of justice every 3 attacks you can achieve keep the burning going all the time.

So now. With a tanky-power build i can do a decent amount of direct damage and have more mobility because the runes of the traveller. I found for Zergs, WvW and dungeons (i don’t play PvP) that’s is much more effective than focus on the burning condition.
It’s a shame because i really wanted to use the burning but because how that condition works it doesn’t seems really effective.
I don’t complain how burning works, i think is fine like it is, just it is not really usefull for my play style right now.

Pet passive mode

Thank you all for being patient with this. Something we introduced on 3/16 broke passive mode. We believe we now have a fix for this and it is in testing. As soon as we confirm this fix has solved this issue we will push it to the live game at the first possible time.

Personally i don’t find it much anoying but that’s because i play mostly PvE and there it doesn’t matter what your pet does. But i have to agree that in WvW and PvP really break the class. So, could you share if it’s going to be patched soon?

Spirit Longevity

They’d have to rework spirits to make them permanent, since spirits don’t have a “self destruct” feature that would allow you to kill them off once you wanted to move them to a different location. Which would kind of be a problem, having a permanent spirit in a location you’ve since moved on from (or just the need to reposition them in general) without any way to blow them up and start over.

Engineers use their toolbelt skills to destroy them. Rangers don’t really have that option. So the only way to do it would be to make the Spirit’s active effect kill the spirit on use, which… might actually be a nerf in some cases, though I suppose they could make the active effects stronger to make up for it perhaps?

They only need to kill them as soon as you get out from their range of 1200 units (let put like 2000 units just is case). Thus they wouldn’t need to change the skill too much.

I think the spirits should be permanent as well.

Brown Bear condition cleanse
If you have the pet on passive it must not go first to attack the tagged. This is happening before the passive bug and i think is a feature of that skill. Fern hound do not do that neither the moas. Why does the brown bear do it?

The only options for support …
Ok so even you are contradicting my at the end you appear be agreeing with me. Spirits are too nerfed and you have to waste a full trait line to make them work a bit.
Pet support skills aren’t good enough, too long CD and the effects are too short. Again, you can trait that but you are trading beastmatery for other traits that could help you better. It’s a help, but none can think those a support team skills

Healing Skills
Now with the last changes healing spring got better. I think now even the wolfs howls can trigger the water field, but before that the only way to get a reliable healing was with troll unguent. Usually you can’t stay immobile in une place when you need the healing.

Signet of the Wild
Signet activated is nice i think i said that. The healing is just a joke with healing power or 800 you only get 100 heal. And then you have the hp of a fly and hit like a wet noodle.

Regen
That’s the thing, you have always to trade something that unbalance your build. Our condition damage does not do that much to trade it for power, and you miss also hit points. You could use shaman accessories however our condition damage is not as good as other classes and you are loosing too much stats in other areas because of this.

Signet of Renewal
We agree in this.

Before Longbow
Oh no, rangers has different states. First was the SB OP.. Then the nerf to the spirits. Now at least they gave back some DPS in power builds (LB).

Math
Actually it should be like that. Guard has it’s own mechanics but having the rest of the classes overcome the ranger in everything shouldn’t be possible. We learn to play better but doesn’t mean the class is not broken. Anet said multiple times that you shouldn’t know the end of a match just seeing the teams, right now you know ranger is a no go.

Sword AA
Not it not literally one But in practice it is.

Pet intercept projectiles
Yes in the strange case you can stay put in one place pewpewing. I can’t, can you?

Your Guardian
You misunderstood me, i meant guardian class (that class, not this one) is boring as hell. Yes a lot of support and damage but is for the ppl that only need to go hulking (smash) things. Only thing i have to do is keep close and smash all the buttons in my mouse.

Druid is broken unless overhaul
We know enough.

  • Druid has pet.
  • Druid share same weapons. Probably will loose LB and take staff.
  • Druid has the same trait lines except some new traits/new trait line in exchange of others (probably skirmish) .
  • They say pet will have new mechanics, I will believe it when I see it.

As i said, i like ranger class. Better than the rest and enjoy playing in WvW and PvE. However that doesn’t mean I don’t have to struggle to stay alive because there are a lot of broken things within this class that are contradictory not only against what Anet says this class is for (mobility and stuff) but also against your own skills and traits.

I don’t provide numbers because it takes too much and any player that plays ranger knows what i’m talking about. The ones that not i advise to try, just to see how hard is to play with this class.

Higher Performance with Bows

In my experience:
LB#2: use it as much as possible. it’s practically you main damage source from the bow.
LB#3: do not use with traps, LB#5. Any kind of damage done by you will reveal you. The skill is very unreliable because the arrow slow speed, so use RtW or when enemies are very close.
LB#4: perfect for trolling and keep the distance. However i don’t use it much and every day less and less. EotM is great for learn to use that skill combined with piercing arrows playing pinball with the enemy players (you still get the bags)
LB#5 : kind of very versatile skill. Defense or offense i let you imagine uses.

LB and SB are different kind of weapons, LB is power focused while SB is condi. My advise is for you to choose one. SB + Axe/Torch-dagger is nice combo and is the equivalent in condition damage to LB + Sw/axe
Otherwise your damage will be mild always.

If you like trapper just go for full condi.

Actually i found if you use recall (f3) the pet won’t attack as long as you don’t change target even if it’s on aggressive mode. So there is at leas that, and is easier to push F3 than look for the button on the screen.

I’m sorry, but you’ve stated several things without anything to support them whilst off the top of my head I can provide several counterpoints.

Going point by point in my statement only makes the thread hideous, is enough if you simply answer (at least for me).

Does not provide team support. I reafirm the ranger do not have support for the team. And when i say don’t have i mean is squeamish compared to any other class.
Let’s forget pets, they are just broken. The brown bear first go to the enemy you have tagged and then call the skill. Maybe you are using long bow and you need the pet skill called in the spot, not 1500 units away. Also, who told you pets can stop projectiles? Do you even play ranger?
the only options for support build in ranger are: spirits that are so nerfed that are useless and spotter but then you loose eagle eye or piercing arrows that actually are by far more useful. That’s what i meant with have to trade too much to be a team support

Does not have sustain. Again, you must not play with ranger, all your statements are from reading the stats in paper, where everything looks nice and stuff.
Troll unguent is actually the only healing skill that is being used and that is because it heals against the other heal skills that are very mild. For healing i’m talking now.
And that’s all. Signet of the Wild regen at max 80 hp/sec that actually is completely useless. Any condition ig going to hurt you for more than those 60 -80 hp/sec
The regen from traits are very mild. 600 hp regen for 10 secs is not actually uselful. As i said very mild regen, only one condi clear because SoR has so high CD and you still must have your pet alive. 90 secs for shared anguish. Useless traits made to fill up the screen with something.

Then why are we constantly having people come complain just about Longbow damage?

Because before rangers where free bags. Now the people that complain is because the yet must to L2P and got owned by a much better player than them.

About maths and the 30% discount on our damage . My guardian do 2500 by hit with a GS #1 in SW. I’d like to see that with the ranger. And the guardian has better armour/sustain/support than the ranger by very far. Although if i take the 500 from the pet plus my 1800 from the LB, then yes, i get close to that amount.

Sword #1 AA immobilize you . I don’t care how you call it, you can’t do anything for 1 second every half second, and that’s the duration of our wolf fear, so i think is pretty kitten up. I don’t want to have to smash the buttons with the basic attack actually.

And at last: Ranger class is broken because of the useless pet, useless traits and the ones that work break other skills. Guards, warrior, thiefs, necros, memers you call it, do not have so many thing broken.
Oh yeah the mesmers now complain because the phantasms became a normal skill instead an abusive OP one after the nerf, but that is not a broken skill. A broken skill is to get self-immobilized with the basic attack or because you used one skill for 12 seconds you can’t cast another one. (impossible to cast Lb#3 after you cast Lb#5)

I don’t have any of this problems with the guard. But for me that class is boring as hell.

While the ranger broken core mechanics are there the druid will inheritance the same hellish play. I don’t care if the dumb the pets up leaving them like necro minions, anyone has seen how they perform?
I a class where we need max mobility because we don’t have anything else the other classes outperform the rangers in everything.

So yes, the druid will be deeply broken unless Anet do a deep overhaul on the ranger class

Information, and the lack thereof

I’m just gonna go ahead and say: You are really really really really wrong.

And i’m a nice guy so i’m gonna tell you why too: ArenaNet wanted to try something different, a different aproach for mmo’s, and while i appreciate them for that, and it is one of the reasons why i love GW2 so much…it failed, first they tried the Season 1 of LS, every 2 weeks new content, but it meant that the old content was taken out. THIS WAS A LIVING WORLD, things change, they never remain for late comers…

But that was also the problem, imagine everyone that had an GW2 account when they started with the episodes, started doing them, every 2 weeks…every single player(imagine they were all 80 with at least 1 character) and it could’ve worked quite well(again ignoring personal problems, holidays, school, work…people just found time to play the episodes before being taken out)

The problem consisted in people that were coming in, just like myself at say…idk episode 3?episode 5? 7? They already missed the few episodes, and by the time they learn what’s up with the game and reach 80 they loose 1-2 more episodes.

In a MMO this aproach doesn’t work.

So we got Season 2, ofc it was kinda better, but the world wasn’t so…living anymore, and people complained about the 200 gems, in case they didn’t log in for a whole 2 weeks.

And in this end this plan failed too…but allowed them to test some things, SilverWaste/Dry Top maps…and Luminecent collection…also maybe a new curency? geodes/crests.

The main reason they switched to an expansion like content is this: There is no subscription to the game, besides the few million copies sold, and some players buying some gems…there was no income for ANET….and a MMO of this complexity doesn’t just…make it somehow…it either makes money or fails.

ANET noticed that players feel entitled to everything for free…(OMG HOW DARE THEY ASK ME FOR 200 GEMS TO PAY FOR ONE EPISODES….THIS IS STEALING…OMG) this meant they couldn’t introduce new features for a price…cause they would have a mob with fire and forks and pointy stuff ready to take ANET down…

But you know what people are used to pay for? EXPANSIONS….ignoring the few people that live in a far far fantasy world and they think that Expansion should be free…ingoring them…. most of us are used to paying for expansion…

So it’s like this: 200gems for one episodes? GREEDY CORPORATE kittenS
60$ for an expansion? cool…when can i preorder?

ANET did try to do something different, it didn’t work…i appreciate the effort put into the game…

But one thing is clear, THEY HAD NO INTENTION of making an expansion, they avoided it at all costs, and in lack of any other way they had to go back to the old ways.

This is why i said MAYBE they decided to go with an expansion after the China Release, or during Mid Seasons 2 LS….

You can ignore the facts as long as you can, and close the eyes as hard as you can…but this is the truth…and i’m not saying it’s something bad…but those are the facts…

I think you are on the money (pun intended). also i agree with you in that they failed to deliver their idea of living word.
Although as i stated some time ago i think this was because they didn’t go for a real living world and they instead tried to do some semi scripted episodes like a if this would be a Tv show.

I said before, if they designed the game as a real living world this could have been much more fun. If the play would have been similar to WvW in Pve but against the AI instead other players (or having like two game factions so even could have other players as enemies) we wouldn’t seen this kind of moves.
It wouldn’t required so much maintenance in terms of scripting once it’s set up, and the team could have been more focused in bugs fixing and art for the gem store.

Other paths could have been used to monetize like no-fixed skills (weapon and utilities) that you could learn the same as traits (defined by the class indeed) , and some skill skins (same as with the weapons) that could give more colour and variety to the game.
Armour and weapons skins are ok but grow old fast, and the lack of skills variety “you are a warrior and you are doomed to use a bunch of skills we all know and see before and won’t change” put together with the grind&respawn standard mechanics makes the game become repetitive really fast.

Becouse rangers right now get stomped by every decent player.
And i underline that your kills vs nab mesmers or warriors or engi doesn t count.
Play against a decent mesmer or engi in pvp and you ll get stomped no matter what.

Rangers are out of the meta because they lack mobility and boon strip on their power builds, and their support build is not as strong as shoutbow or cele.

The meta will get a big shakeup with hot so there really is no point speculating yet.

  • Ranger do not have a support build. Yes, you could spend some grandmaster traits to turn it up in a kind of but still, spirits after nerf are not useful any more.

  • Ranger don’t have same DPS o even closer to other classes. 30% of our DPS go to the pet, and the pet is useless other than killing braindead PvE.
  • Pets are useless most of the time. The only use i could find right now is the healing from the sylvan hound, and that is in a very limited way. The other pets (included the wolf) i find mostly useless except for trolling around.

Conditions: Bleeding around 100/sec.

Only SB#2 & Torch can make out for the DPS you lost going for condi. Although it has a high CD.

So like a kitten potato. That’s why you only see PewPew PoweRangers in wvw/spvp.
Just i like to keep in mind that in Pve any build will be worderful.

Except fireball can be easily strafed, isn’t 1.5k+ range when traited, and lava font doesn’t track through stealths / teleports.

LB is a much better single target long range weapon. Old mate above me seems to forget that we have the ability to swap weapons, whereas eles don’t.

lol longbow shots are stupidly easy to strafe, especially at 1500 range. The mere fact you even mentioned 1500 range signals to me the usual culprit of sour hotjoin/wvw grapes, people who die to a ranger from 1500 range deserve what they get, it couldn’t get possibly any easier to dodge longbow attacks from 1500 range.

Tracking through stealth and teleports? Sure, if your thief is kittened and not double dodging your rapid fire channels, as that’s virtually the only thing you have on a longbow. It doesn’t even track through teleports if the opponent ports across you.

These people singing the praises of longbow are probably farming upscales in WvW or hotjoin. When you see rangers showing up in spvp at the same rate as eles, or rangers making the same representation in guild vs guild as eles, we can talk.

It’s a better weapon than it was before, but for the content that matters such as group pvp and pve, the ele staff is a far superior weapon.

Good for you, you can swap to another garbage weapon unlike eles, too bad none of those weapons you can swap to put down water fields and clear conditions, don’t put fire fields for might stacking, do less dps, do less aoe, don’t lay down aoe chill fields or give you mobile reflection unlike that garbage whirling defenses, won’t give you a line of warding and it won’t root people.

But hey, you might be able to win a duel against some people, how useful in a team objective game!

Sadly you are saying the truth. I like playing ranger unfortunately it has all the drawbacks you point out and more.
As i’m tired to say: this class is so kitten broken is almost unplayable

People will try to stomp on me before try to push my pet away. Lick wounds is not that great as some people say/think, that downed skill is helpful against PvE, not so much in WvW (the real uses i guess). Would be helpful if when the pet is channelling you couldn’t be stomped, forcing the other players to attack the pet/push it away.

But in our current circumstances I have yet to see any real use of this skill instead a waste of a trait slot.

I hate fractals. I hate the point I must look for a party to do them, same a most dungeons, because reasons, so then I have to get exposed to the toxic community that lives within the fractals.

I mean “Pets gain stability when disabled.” When the pet is dead, Why would you care if is feared or inmobilized? also can they even be feared when dead?

I’m not able to see the utility of this master trait, did the devs run out of ideas?

LB needs a base projectile boost

Wholeheartedly agree. RtW should never have existed. I never understood all the happiness that exploded on the forums when it was introduced; if anything I was angry devs decided we needed a grandmaster trait for a weapon to hit its target. Rifle, pistol, scepter, mes gs, etc etc can all hit the target reliably in its range; why does longbow need a grandmaster to do it?

The number one complaint about longbows before RtW was that it could be very easily side-stepped past a certain range. (1000+ ish?) If I trait a weapon so it can hit at 1500 range, then it should reliably hit up to 1500 range. Past that, I don’t care if enemies can side-step it or not.

100% increased velocity should be removed from RtW, and the default projectile speed on both bows should be increased by…I don’t know, 30%? Whichever percentage so that targets cannot simply sidestep as long as they’re in range.

As a replacement RtW can have something like “Long-ranged shot now hits for maximum ranged damage at all ranges” or such so that it is still a great trait for longbows, but not essential.

I agree completely with this statement. I still don’t understand why should i waste a grandmaster to make a weapon reliable when we just have a few utilities/traits that actually works.
Base projectile speed should be revised to make it at least 50% faster. For example it’s not understandable why is enough to sidestep to avoid rapid fire (LB#2). Other classes skills require you to dodge with LB you only need to keep running.

Class balance and Rapid Fire

No MMO will ever be 100% balanced. Whenever one ability is “balanced” another is discovered to be made overpowered by the balancing of the previous ability. And so this dance continues.

But, there are always some abilities that are so blatantly overpowered that they need to be addressed lest the PvP landscape be reduced to an ocean of nothing but one class.

A-net is, for the most part, very mindful of how to balance, and generally does a very good job.

A warrior’s “hundred blades” would be stupidly overpowered if they could use it while moving, right? Of course, that’s why that restriction was put in place early on, and it’s one that I agree with.
But, why then can my Engineer be dropped from full health to zero while stealthed and blocking by a ranger’s “Rapid Fire?” It can be dodged you might say, and that would be true if not for the ranger’s immobilize, which can’t be broken by any means other than damage, which takes too much time and stops you from damaging the ranger for the duration.
“Rapid fire” is an ability with damage that is comparable to a warrior’s “hundred blades,” except it can be channeled while moving, has a range of 1200 (further if you arc it right), continues to hit a target if they stealth and move around, can be unblock-able, and like hundred blades it has a cooldown much shorter than any damage mitigating ability. How can it possibly be justified that this ability does not require restrictions to it like a warrior’s “hundred blades?”

I realize that I probably won’t get much support here on the Ranger sub-forum, but this thread would probably have been moved here if I posted it elsewhere.

in the time i’ve been playing i became to realize that when you have such problems against other class is because your build is broken for your play style.
Other class could be difficult to beat but can’t be OP. Except the turret engies, that are the exception.
