I know, my point is why the hell isn’t this posted in game or at least on the official forums? If the point of the new system is to more or less stop “using” tiers and start thinking of rating then why not show it in game? If we are facing off against a much more heavily populated server and definitely losing on the PPT but keeping it close our rating gain might actually be much higher then said opponent. Well it should kitten well be somewhere for all to see….“Hey guys I know it’s been a tough matchup this week vs the enemy hordes but we actually are doing very well….check out our rating gain!”.
The question is is the leaderboard good enough or are you actually wanting it in game in game.
If it is a close matchup you want you could always transfer servers to one of the middle of the range servers. Rank 11-17 will likely get you in a good matchup. Just delete all your characters and come on over if you don’t want to pay. Those in the higher ranks are only going to get more and more blowouts as this continues. Until the rankings level out as players stop playing or transfer around.

You talking about the tag SBI or [SBI PUGs] Because there is no tag SBI PuGs my comment was to say that he won’t find what he is looking for. In SBI most guilds are PvX so we all play a bit of everything so there is no one Guild he can go GvG to test Open Field battles.
I’m pretty sure the TAG I saw this morning said simply [PuG]. I remember thinking, “How appropriate”.
Ya PuG is a actual guild It is a PvX guild. Not a WvW guild.
Guild Tag is SBI PuGs. So you won’t get what you are looking for. There is no WvW guild besides SBI on SBI. The SBI guild worries more about managing the WvW effort and managing the WvW PuGs.
I saw that Tag run over my solo Ranger this morning with about 10 folks when you jammed me right after I killed a thief right outside your Garrison. You’re right though, it did happen in open field.

At the end of the day however, you can’t come close to touching SBI in open field fights.
Guild tag? We’d love to test that theory.

Thanks to everyone so much for their responses! I am so surprised and encouraged at how on-topic this thread has remained. There have only been a few GW1 vs. GW2/Easy vs. Hard scuffles! If this were the WoW forums this would have derailed into a 25 page sniping match without any regard for the original intent by now. I truly appreciate all of your time and advice. Obviously there is overwhelming support and I believe this game is one I need to invest some time in, but I’d still like to hear from anyone who is willing and I do have another question to add.
In regards to builds, is this a similar system to WoW’s (old) talent system? In other words, is it a cookie cutter system where if I want to complete content then I HAVE to use certain builds/weapons, or is it really up to me and the builds are there for current optimal results but ultimately won’t make a difference in the long run, so long as I play the profession well?
Thanks again!
Yes and No. Also depends on what you play.
Playing the profession well means understanding builds and what goes good with that profession and your playstyle. However in the long run does it matter too much. No not to an extreme degree. I played without the highest rank of trait points for quite a while.
That said tPVP and sPvP do require builds to complement other builds on the team.
I was doing a search on Guardian Charr and for some reason it found no matches. I know there are some threads out there that contain this.
I still stand by this because SBI doesn’t have enough wvw guilds to keep up with us and IoJ doesn’t have a wvw guild big enough.
SBI doesn’t have any hardcore wvw guild, actually we are formation of pugs. We take SM by pugs, We wiped out your zerg by pugs, We take everything from you by pugs.
We actually have one in the process of forming Champions of StormBluff. Tag SBI.
ArenaNet has said early on that they wanted ectos to be a highly valued item. They were turning out not to be thanks to some changes made API,Guaranteed Exotic, etc… Also T6 dust had a overvalued price due to what happened to Orr. People do not like orr for other reasons.
So to fix both issues they made this patch change. It was not knee jerk. As for them doing the patch. Those paying attention to the “news” and rumors and the way that the population felt could have seen something like this coming. So they should have played the buy and sell orders before the patch to account for that.
Stuff like this happens in real life. Read the signs and read the rumors and react to them before the patch.
Well I think this has been a great match. Good fights, good defenses, good attacks, good comebacks, good frustrations
I don’t think we’ve (SBI) ever been in a match this close. It’s Wednesday and we don’t know who’s going to win! Amazing.
Regarding AR taking the whole map, what time was that? I’m just interested because we do have some good OCN – it must’ve been right before their primetime? Cause, now we have have it all back. Guess we’ll need to recruit some people in Hawaii and the South Pacific
It was at 4AM at whatever time MOP time is. You can tell by looking at the income evolution.
http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/31/
IOJ believe it or not you may be the determining factor on who the winner is. Currently AR is in the lead. But depending on your targets that may change. Don’t let our current ranking fool you. I think AR and SBI are a good match our playstyles are just a bit different due to the players that we have. AR smaller numbers but more organization. SBI larger numbers but mostly shepherds herding sheep PUGs. That is not meant to be a derogatory comment against our PUGs either. They are great at what they do without them well…. You saw what happened when the patch came.
(edited by anzenketh.3759)
Cute, AR and IoJ teaming up against us. One the one hand I’m flattered that we’re posing that much of a threat again, but on the other hand….really?
Oh no the 2 weaker servers ganging up on the winning one, call the Wambulance
Even though IoJ didnt help, you guys got stomped by AR alone
2v1 doesn’t matter. Don’t be a kitten bout that. AR stomped doors, its pretty impressive. Maybe you can ask AR who got stomped last night, when for the first time in days SBI had numbers on, besides that freaking EB mess. Stay classy IOJ
.
It seems that AR has taken the lead and last time i checked WvW was 24/7 and every timezone gets their chance to contribute
Has SBI turned into another DR?!
Last week our oceanics managed 680ppt.
Good on AR for taking the lead! Be proud of it guys and dont let the “PvDoor” sooks get to ya! IoJ has copped that for as long as i can remember!
No we are not becoming DR not that I know how DR reacts or really care for that matter. I am sure they do their best with what they have to work with. I refuse to judge another server. We are also not complaining. We know that the majority of the reasons why you are currently in the lead is our own fault. We were just making a comment that you likely did not meet much resistance. While when we took your borderlands we likely did.
Congrats on the lead. I wonder for how long you will hold it.
(edited by anzenketh.3759)
To AR the core WvW SPI players just thought you had your own keeps for long enough so we decided to turn them to paper. That is all.
So you decide to take our stuff at 6AM on a night after a patch with likely paper borderlands with no siege protection none the less. Meh… PvDoor must have been fun for you.
Please excuse our server while we enjoy our fun with the Dragon Bash. The WvW party should resume shortly.
Thank you AR and IOJ for showing what it is like to have a even fight that is not ruled by the night. We have not had that in a while. It is building character on our server.
What is the radius of the AC mastery 4? I think the basic radius is 320 I’m not even sure…
You know I really wish Anet would put these kinds of things in there BEFORE we bought them so we knew what we were getting into, and whether the massive point investment was worth our it for our style of play or not.
And that is exactly why they are working on re-setting our traits.
If your game is WvW Blackgate is extremely stacked sure you will win more often but your opponents from time to time will be non existent. The new rating system will not guarantee a good matchup.
Anvil Rock is not a bad server when compared to other servers it is around. It has some rather [insert some choice words as a compliment] WvW guilds in it. My server SBI which is mostly a bunch of PUGS few WvW Guilds to speak of is having a hard time keeping our rating with them even though we have superior numbers.
So you might have more fun if WvW is your game having your brother transfer to Anvil Rock. But other factors may apply in your situation. Anvil rock is not a bad starting server. You might actually find it more new player friendly due to it is lower in the ranks.
OP, notice that your problems started not with a shift in design goals or game mechanics, but with a shift in the way the community consumed content. I agree that certain recent additions to the game have felt….well, not quite up to par, but these changes strike me as reactionary.
*People complain about no endgame progression: add Fractals.
*People complain about no reason to go back to old areas: Add rewards for dailies in those areas.
*People complain about missing out on the big one time events: change to month long mini-events.
*People complain about there not being enough armor and weapon sets, and seeing them all all the time because they are so easy to get: add new weapon skins with each update that are temporary and hard to get, keeping them rare.I agree with you that Arena Net has strayed from the path we all hoped it would follow, but I disagree that it was due to greed. No; I think it was due to necessity. A necessity that we created.
- People complained about not enough variance on the matches in WvW. ArenaNet Acknowledges that it is a problem and introduce a random roll.
Funny thing is all of these changes are for the better and welcomed by the player base. A lot of them are also really better for the game in it’s longevity. If you were a new player coming into the game you would not have high population numbers in the lower zone areas so you would have missed out on that. However you will find that there is even more content then ever before to play getting not only 3 but 4-5 times your money’s worth. The core problem is still the same. Me Gimie Gimie and straying away from what the game really is. A wonderful land full of adventure and story and wonderful environment. The game has changed a bit. ArenaNet does listen and give players what they want. It is just not always in the way that they want it. I think that is where they have not strayed from their path. They have a vision of how they want the game to be.
I don’t think that it is necessarily the game or ArenaNet that has changed though I think it is the community that has changed. The community seams a bit more demanding and inpatient. Any any Massively Multiplier type game runs into this issue. Guild Wars 1 Ran into that issue it was just not as popular so it had a more tight nit community.
ArenaNet has always known that they can not develop enough content to keep all the player base happy. I would argue they do a good enough job that people who don’t go all crazy are happy. If you look in some areas you will find that the game is actually teaching you how to do WvW and sPvP. The reason why WvW and sPvP exist is so the players can make their own content.
I think this is the easiest way to implement something like that
If you call easy rewriting the entire sPvP codebase to not separate the PvE/WvW codebase which was done by design. With a possibility of the code bleeding into regular sPvP causing exploits. Yes this is the easiest way.
Perhaps they can add things to do more game modes into custom arenas. That include some items like food.
I like this idea. It is similar to one I made in the suggestions forum.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/How-to-reduce-zergs-in-WvW/first
Custom arena’s are coming I wonder if that will work for everyone’s need for GvG.
so which one is it?
Neither it is the players attitude that is ruining it for themselves.
I wonder what would happen to WvW in GvG was implemented.
The matchups are not actually calculated until the reset, so we are currently unable to provide info about them until they start. We’ll definitely look into a way to try and get the information out ahead of time, but it’s complicated.
Thanks a lot of requests were made for that. Is the random number rolled ahead of time or at the calculation of the matchup. If we knew the random number we could calculate the probability ourselves. I don’t think most of us are looking for guaranteed matchup results just probability.
I respect the traders. I know full well that they are one of the reasons a lot of the items in the trading post have a stable predictable pattern. Keep up the good work keeping the economy somewhat stable. Same with the farmers.
I could be a trader if I wished I think I have the basic know how I just don’t want to sit and spend my time trading.
GW 1 was fully instanced with lots of cinematics that is how the immersion was better. In Guild Wars 2 it is less instanced and more open world. The only instanced is a personal story. So less attachment to a character.
Perhaps to fix this they need to add to the personal story what your character is doing after Zytan. Sortof like a second book. However that is not likely to happen until a expansion.
In WoW it is just a pain to level to max level that is why they are attached to characters there.
Perhaps they need to add more personal story.
Hey everyone
I was wondering if the flame and frost dyes are going to get reintroduced at some point, because they are quite pricey at the moment.
Basically; should i buy now or wait for reintroducement if there is any on the way?
There is no guarantee that they will be re-introduced. I could really only see the price going up.
All the cool stuff you keep adding by not announcing it :P
There are about 20 things in game that weren’t in patch notes, that were good improvements. And now you have more specialized forums for different topics that have been asked for forever. Are you being modest? Is it like hide and seek? Do we win something when we find these unmentioned things?! Is this the precursor scavenger hunt?!
I’m watchen you….. You think you are sly.. But I’ll catch your hidden cool updates my pretties, and your little quaggans too!
What are these cool things that were not in the patch notes. The forums don’t count. I found them by watching the dev tracker.
I highly dobut a character slot would generate such a spike.
You underestimate the population of alt-aholics.
But I think there is still the possibility that gems appear out of nowhere when you buy with gold. I think I saw a conspiracy video on youtube about ncsoft or something.
I just wish a dev can actually confirm they all come from players.
They already have. You just need to search.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Who-sets-Gem-prices/page/6#post705345
I would read up on the following:
You really just got to watch them play. And you can normally tell by how they talk on if they understand the game.
I would recommend reading this end game guide.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/So-You-Hit-80-A-Quick-Endgame-Handbook/first
Healix, I want that interface. how? I don’t so much care for listing 1611 things at once, but to have it show the actual profit and ‘view market data’, and I can only guess what “Ignore errors” does.
I sure hope that is not some addon he installed if it is he can get banned for that. Hopefully they are making changes to the trading post and it will look like that in the future but they are just rolling it out to a few.
Remember this is a game wide economy. Not a server per server. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of buy orders.
Starting out at the peak the average was at ~766k buy orders with a sell order averaging ~2727k sell orders. Sell orders stopped at the high volume they were at about the 14-16th of May due to southsun and increased rewards over there. It took about 5-6 days before the gap between buy and sell orders started to significantly spread. To make matters worse the number of buy orders increased as those that would have normally farmed for the mats themselves decided it was more worth it to concentrate on southsun. Taking buy orders average to 1000k+ from there price started to really spike when the supply ran out and was signifficently less then demand.
It did not go fast. This started as soon as southsun was released. 05/14/2013 prices really did not start to skyrocket until about the 24th of May. When there was a higher incentive to farm elsewhere. (Hum… I wonder if this will tell you how valuable farming is to the economy. ) There was more incentive elsewhere. There were magic finds and gold buffs in southsun. Levels 1-80 could participate due to upleveling. So it is not just level 80 areas that are taking a hit but all areas of the game.
Also not all mats were effected Tier 5 mats did not take as big of a hit.
Mithrill Ore —- Supply well exceeds demand. Price is steady overall on the long term. But on the rise on the one month term. —- Interesting with supply exceeding demand so much.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19700
Large Scale —- Supply exceeds demand. But not by much. — This seams to be on a larger roller coster then most. I am not a economist so I don’t know the exact term.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24288
Vial[s] of Potent Blood —Supply exceeds demand. But not by much. --- Price is stable.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24294
Some Tier 6 mats that are found in Southsun are also stable.
Vial[s] of Powerful Blood
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24295
Vicious Claw
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24351
While some are on a steady incline like Tier 6 dust
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24277
And some are on a steady decline trying to stable out. Like Tier 6 Scale.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24289
If you take a look at what mobs drop what and where you will begin to see why some mats price are skyrocking while others lower are declining. Also take a look at where the majority of players are.
If you look at all the graphs you will notice that SouthSun affected the economy greatly. I can say this due to they all pivot at about the 14th.
Platinum is actually Tier 4. The stock of mats have been vanishing because less and less people go in the 60-70 level areas. Starter zones are still covered because of the dailies.
If you look at the all time view you will find that they are actually rather steady.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19697
Most characters are level 80 and have very little reason to return to the 60-70 level areas.
And yes I do believe that Southsun dragged such a high percentage of players out of the other areas. I have frequently been put in overflow in Southsun and that has not happened to me since release.
A spike like that means that now is a good time to dump your stock of platinum. The demand is still high but not a lot of people selling for one reason or another.
What specific mats do you feel our out of whack. How did you come to this conclusion?
As for T6 Wood. It is fine. As a matter of fact right now supply exceeds demand.
Supply: 179997
Demand: 48518
That entirely depends on what you want to give feedback on.
For suggestions they read the following but rarely reply. Just because they don’t reply do not mean they don’t read it. I am sure they have their own Internal System for tracking suggestions.

If you think it is a bug you can post in the bug section:

Also each type of content has it’s own discussion section to where you can discuss the content type.
TL;DR they read all the sections.
Southsun cove is designed to be a difficult area.
I play this area as a level 80 thief. I agree it is hard however it is just about the level of difficulty it should be. A skilled player that is not a utter glass cannon should be able to take out a few regular mobs solo. Try not using full Berserk Gear and go Dagger Dagger. In addition to that the large Karka they are all veterans to the best of my knowledge. I would avoid them unless you are with someone. They hard vets due to the eggs they spawn. They are designed to be hard to fight.
As for fast spawns. You need to give the locations. Use the wiki and the map to help you. They are also likely on a fast re-spawn then they will be normally due to the number of players in the area. Orr is not currently like this.
As for the number of mobs close to one another. Try kiting in smaller circles.
I personally like it being character bound. I also like it that it takes a long time. Gives me the sense of progression on my alts.
The Traits do help but honestly I don’t think by that much that I must play XYZ character. The classes will effect the tide of battle more then the WvW traits will.
Mag Next time you get though outer might not be the best idea to leave otherwise you will just have the door slammed in your face.
Oh and DB thanks for leaving the door open for us to ninja our hills from you and take it back from Mag you make great meat shields.
I am also wondering about the lyrics, I can’t seem to get some parts:
“This world has lived in shadow from/for …?
but ?? fear the future or the darkness that it brings.
The monster puts a fire show expecting us to yield
But there’s just one course of action
when we take up sword and shield.
Bash the dragon, smash the dragon, drive it right back into it’s den
Bash the dragon, smash the dragon, may it never rise up again. x3

There you go. I would love for this to be on soundcloud. Working on further completing my Guild Wars 2 Soundtrack.
…..
Nightmares come when shadows grow
Eyes close (maybe “Eyes closed”. In the Malukah, Taylor, and Lara version, they choose “Eyes closed”, but the original sounds present tense both make sense)
and heartbeats slow

Have a look in the following thread.
I honestly feel silly for ever complaining about thieves. They are an annoyance at best for experiences players and really only kill people learning to get around WvW. So if you keep getting killed by thieves play one at level 80 for a few hours in WvW and see how hard it really is.
I think this is the biggest grudge that players have with thieves is that they are really annoying. Not OP. Annoying there is a difference. If they are OP at anything it is escaping a fight. In order for a thief to have a really high chance on a 1v1 he basically needs to be a glass cannon. Otherwise he needs to be able to evade and reset the fight. Hoping that the player he is going against wasted his heals so he can finish it.
I don’t think anyone gets banned for saying kitten. There’s a difference between saying kitten when you’re falling off a jumping puzzle and saying kitten you, which is more of a direct attack.
The filter allows me to see profanity which doesn’t offend me. But people can still use those words offensively and that shouldn’t be allowed.
I do understand reports for direct attacks. I don’t understand reports for swearing though. I’ve heard from people that were just joking around with their friends on /say and got reported by other people just because they found swearing offensive, however in order to see that they needed to have their filter off. That’s what I don’t get.
In those cases it is possible that they were suspended due to the swear words they were using were considered hate speech. Even if they were not rules are rules and are there for a reason. The filter does not provide a free ticket to saying what you want. Because filters are not perfect.
As a general rule. It is best not swear in public. In game or out. Doing so can get you in trouble in some cases.
I don’t think it makes much of a difference due to the fact that they can easily swap maps.
I honestly think all they need to do is tweak it. I would be in favor of a hard cap put in place so you could not face a server X amount of rating points ahead or behind you.
And I’m on SBI. Sure we are getting crushed in score. And I feel for our non-NA primetime players. But the NA primetime has been awesome. There’s actual strategy going on. I can’t wait to get home tonight to log in.
SBI (rank 13) is doing spectacularly well. They’re only 6.5K points behind #7 Maguuma, despite Mag being rated almost 300 points higher. at this rate, SBI will easily be back in the #12 spot in the rankings next week.
SBI may not be in the same class as DB, but so far they’re showing that they can be competitive vs. Mag. If Maguuma wants to stop bleeding so many rating points, they are going to have to devote more attention to keeping SBI down (although I’m sure DB is going to make that hard for them to do).
-ken
At the moment I think SBI and Mag are more worried about bleeding points from DB. They have plenty to share with us. If Mag fights SBI and ignores DB then they will not get the same amount of points then if they take all the points from DB.
I think however that the fact that SBI vs Mag vs DB is the only match that is completely out of whack just shows you that the new system is working,.
What server are you on I don’t remember a D or a DE on my guild roster.
