New Server Matchups Was Worst Idea Ever

The only real match that should not have happened is DB/Mag/SBI. I am not saying this due to the fact I am on SBI I am saying this based upon the evolution. DB is going to be Top Tier 2 and the rating differance is too large I honestly think that DB has a shot at T1. Luckely Their increased rating will make this less likely to happen in the future. It will take some time for the rating to become what they should be. I think I will give it a few months. Really I should give it 30 weeks.

As for getting steamrolled. Prime time when I play we have put up some vary good fights against Dragonband. Our Evolution score agrees with that. The fact that the matchup thread has pepole saying that also agrees. I am actually having fun with it. Fighting SOS was just annoying and getting old fast. Mostly because that fight was lost due to population as diffrent times. If SOS was mosly NA preseance who knows what the outcome could have been. The map got wiped at night and then both SBI and CD came over and took back our lands durring the day with CD and SBI fighting after that was done. With this we get wiped at night and have to fight to keep it durring the day.

For those on SBI and CD that hated the fact that SOS would win every week due to oceanic presence, I understand that and don’t begrudge them wanting something to change. But, at least they didn’t get constantly steamrolled during the time they actual play.

I prefer a quick painless loss with no hope rather then slow loss due to never meeting the majority of you. I am sure many would agree with me on this.

2 but decrease the standard deviation of the randomization rolls. And this is coming from someone on a server that had a bad luck(SBI). It felt so good when we took back our entire borderlands from Dragonband. I knew we were going to loose but that alone made it a success in my eyes. Also I think we are doing a lot better then a lot of people think we would.

But then it is also too early to say if they need to change things a bit more.

I do agree the range does need to be narrowed a tiny bit. I also realize that there may come a time that SBI will be the dominant server and The other servers will not so much be.

However at the same time I think that for a while a large range is needed to get a more accurate picture of where everyone should be. Then they can narrow it down to where the most you will get a random draw on is up one tier or down one Tier.

Anyone have a translator for this guy? I think he is saying something intresting.

Wording arrangement was horrible. I fixed it. It is also important to keep in mind. Unlike NA EU has some lower overall population servers.

anzenketh.3759

I’m thinking the matchups that took place (albeit short) actually counted towards the servers ratings leading to some servers rating going up or down on drastic levels that should not have happened.

That makes a lot of sense. Because the matchups did change from the original. This also likely answers the question will we know beforehand the answer is no but we will have a good guess.

Yeah. Keep loving the guy, it’ll bite you eventually.

How is that post condescending and unhelpful?

Because he comes in and basically says, I see what you are doing here. I have the information you seek but will not give it to you, and let me remind you that what you are trying to do is stupid.

He is stating a fact. The rhetorical question was lets see what the response will be. The answer is statistically inaccurate. He is simply saying that the forums are not a good place to get the information you are looking for. Not that the information can not be found.

Drop rate research is done all the time by the community see:

If you survey the forums you are likely to get bias responses. Interesting thing though. The survey in this thread response bias but yet somehow it overcame some of it.

RNG survey

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Due to the nature of the questions, the responses you get will be completely meaningless. It’s because you don’t have enough options to make this survey have meaning.

For example, you ask how I feel about RNG. I don’t mind RNG is drops in the game, but I do mind RNG in the cash shop. I’ve yet to see any MMORPG that doesn’t have RNG drops anyway.

This sort of leading type poll accomplishes nothing in my opinion.

This is definitely true. Questions should have been more around the area of.

1. What is your definition of RNG?
2. Do you feel there is too much RNG is in the game?
3. Do you feel a need for loot to be somewhat random?
4. Do you feel that there is a way for you to get good looking valued armor without pure luck but instead work?
5. What items do you feel is too much based upon luck?

I think that you will find that there is a lot less RNG in the game then you think. Take a look at the wiki. You will find that centaurs for example will drop bags and leather scraps. But not a Brackish Skale

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rawhide_Leather_Scrap

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tamini_Archer
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Brackish_Skale

I also know exactly what I might get out of a Tiny Supply Bag vs a Regular Supply bag.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tiny_Supply_Bag
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Supply_Bag

Drop rate research even shows it sends to favor one mat over another:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Supply_Bag/Drop_rate

I think the complaint for most people is that nice armor does not drop in the game vary frequently. Armor is not designed to be dropped and used in the game but salvaged and crafted for the armor you want with the stats you want with the looks you want.

Drop rates hurt who?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Just wanted to get others feedback on this. I keep seeing drop rates getting nerfed and I’m sure its to save the economy from gold sellers and botters etc but what about the gamers doing it for fun? I keep feeling like every time Anet hurts a gold seller they hurt 50 legit players in the process? Is it just me or are we as players like casualty’s of Anets war on gold sellers/botters?

I highly doubt any drop rates were nerfed. If there was you would see it in the volume of trade in the economy. In all the mats that I have looked at I have not seen any. The only thing recently that did have a change in drop rate is rare materials from salvage equipment and that was a bug. If anything I would say drop rates have increased and the economy has stabilized.

As for who they hurt. They hurt the players and the economy. When Drop rates do get nerfed it is also usually due to the fact that the rate is higher then expected. Anyone got some butter.

Butter at one time had a high drop rate. Extremely high. Sell orders shot up dramatically. Prices dropped drastically. Then they introduced a temporary Mystic Forge Item to fix the abundance of supply after fixing the drop rate bug. Sell volumes sank. Prices skyrocketed.

You will need to view the graph in all time to see it.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/12138
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/zwgun/new_temporary_mystic_forge_recipes/

If you need a more recent example on a shorter time-frame. Take Glob of Ectoplasm. This one is harder to see though. But you will notice the increase and the drop.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Loot Scaling is also in effect. A lower level is not going to be able to get that level 80 Exotic. In addition to that any exotic dropping is a rare event. Unless you participate in a world event that drops a world chest.

A lot of MMO’s are barren at the lower level areas. If you want hard difficult content you will be rewarded for the play of hard difficult content in the higher level areas. However rewards may vary.

Lower level areas you get rewarded for helping out the lower new players and keep decent rewards.

I would agree however there are some areas that could use a better loot. More variety in the story dungeons would be a good example.

given the time the designer had to work on the instance, I think he did a great job.

Hm, all you’re currently releasing is living world content as far as I’m aware of, and most of it doesn’t seem to require a lot of work except the Molten Weapons Facility. How can he not have had enough time to work on this, and why did he have to do it alone? Makes you wonder how many designers there are to begin with.

There are a lot of Bug Fixes and other enhancements to the game that they are working on like a proper LFG tool. The living world content is mostly something to keep us busy and entertained while they work on polishing the core game. Once that is mostly done they will likely shift a lot of members on over to the Expansion team.

TL;DR multiple teams working on multiple things. More is released in a patch then just new content.

I think the boss was designed to test out new boss mechanics that they wants to introduce. See how the players like it. Ignore the fact that it is a ridiculously short dungeon and that all you fight is the boss.

What do you think of the mechanics? Some like it some hate it. That means that the May have close to the right amount of puzzle elements to it. (I would not know I did not run it). Also did you look up how to run it before you ran it or did you just run it?

How to reduce zergs in WvW

in Suggestions

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

And as for commanders not being visible on the map:
“/m(/t) where are the commanders?” – followed up by a map location ping.

Zergs and Blobs are as much part of this game as the players in it. That said I’m not a big fan of them, and tend to roam with a smaller group.

As for the map chat asking where the commanders are at. It is true that some may still follow and Zergs/Blobs will still exist. However they will not be created as easily as well as they will be reduced in numbers.

Frost with there being multiple commanders on the map they will most of the time likely try to take multiple objectives. Thus splitting up the zerg. Most objectives can be easily taken with 15-20 people.

Notice the title never said how to eliminate zergs in WvW. I know that is not possible.

How to reduce zergs in WvW

in Suggestions

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

Yes commanders may run together from time to time. At times they may need too. But it also allows for more strategic play with two squads in the same map attacking different areas. Allowing for more coordination less zerg zombie runs. But they should not be able to form parties. The idea is to slim the “fat” not remove the heart.

The key here is that the commander tag needs to be not so viewable on the map so that random people that join WvW do not swarm to it like bees to honey.

The trick is how to make it so that random people that join know to talk to the NPC or know that the way commanders work has changed.

anzenketh.3759

After thinking on this topic for a while I think I have found a way to reduce Zergs from WvW.

Instead of having a commander viewable on the map at all times have it be hidden at first. In order to view where a commander is at you will need to be in the commanders squad. Limit those said squads to 15-20 people or so. To join a commanders squad you will need to speak to a NPC that gives the list of commanders running on the map and their current location.

Currently people just run to the nearest commander and follow brainlessly. This would also ensure that people join the commanders squad. Solving the rate limit on map chat problem.

The API dev cycle is different thing and I’d say much easier as you just need to pull the data from the database and don’t need to worry about graphics, testing etc.

If they have the data. I am ok with them making it available in the API after and only after it is made available in the UI. Many have requested for it to be made available in the UI many have spoken out against it.

What I would like to see is the ability for the system to report a player current status Representing/Online etc… Then if some programer wants to make a program to report the last online information from that so be it.

A lot of people do not like this mostly a lot of GW1 players did not like to see it re-appear in GW2 and there is little need as there is a high guild cap. But then again perhaps the high Guild Cap will make it so that less guilds have a activity requirement. Completing some specific dynamic events(in the higher level areas) to get some of the parts of the precursor would probably be a good fit for this. And with the Wiki having the ability to check what events are running and where.(Thanks to the API) it would be a bit of luck but also at the same time not. This would also make the Dynamic Events more rewarding which a lot of people have been asking for. Hearts don’t need to be as they are done for map completion but Dynamic events don’t really have the incentive to be done like they used too so they a lot of times are not done (unless they are world events).

I don’t think with the information out there now compromises tactics too much. Perhaps a delay would be in order on the query of the data. Reason being It only displays what we have captured after we have captured it. Any active WvW player can get the same amount of data. Planners are contently looking at the maps. Reporting what is/is not taken so we already have this information.

On the other hand what is captured and what is not is extremely useful for Map completer and frees up slots in WvW for people just watching the map waiting for areas to be taken small vary true but there are some.

I do not think they should release any more data in WvW however. For exactly the reasons you stated. This includes what is/is not under attack.

You will need to understand how to program and parse API queries in a programming language to develop a application. This is a much more complex topic then can be covered in a single post. May I recommend finding a good programming language like Ruby,Python,Perl or PHP then study up on how to parse the text and create the application you desire.

I enjoyed Cantha. My first experience of Guild Wars was Cantha. I enjoyed the story-line. I enjoyed the culture of the area. I’m eager to know how 250 years changed that place (or didn’t change).

If it was for cultural sensitivity not to include it that is a shame. I personally find it more culturally insensitive to exclude it. In addition I don’t find Guild Wars 1 being culturally insensitive.
