My first advice would be to consider Sigil of Battle for your weapons. Attunement swap counts as a weapon swap too, and you’ll be swapping a lot. This means that you’ll get at least 6 stacks of might from just your sigil, which is a lot of damage.
fire/air+might/fury dual dagger
I would lose the ‘burning on crits’ trait. You’ve got a few good sources of burning already, and if you’re playing in a group, just your fire field will cause perma burning on most mobs. Otherwise it looks solid to me.air/earth dual dagger
It feels a bit like you’re unsure which skills you want to use. I’d recommend either picking signets or arcane skills, instead of a mix of both. Geomancer’s Freedom feels a bit redundant if you also have Diamond Skin. You could either get Stone Splinters, Rock Solid or Elemental Shield. Also, instead of Soothing Winds, consider Zephyr’s Boon. It would greatly increase your mobility and damage.wvw/pve staff ele
Signet of Air is unneccesary. You have Windvorne Speed and Glyph of Elemental Harmony to get perma swiftness, and they don’t stack with the signet. Given that it’s a WvW/PvE build, I’m assuming you’re not gonna be on the front lines. This means you can swap Renewing Stamina for Elemental Attunement for even more swiftness, and a protection boon. If cast Meteor Shower, swap to earth during the cast to get fury (from Arcane Fury for extra damage) and protection (useful against retaliation damage you’ll likely get in WvW). The signet reduction trait is also a bit overkill in this build, as is Soothing Winds. Healing power becomes useful when you have multiple heals, but you have neither water magic traits nor Evasive Arcana, so it won’t do as much for you. These are just a few things to consider. I hope you find them helpful. As for your condition build, I’m not quite sure what to make of it. It seems a bit…randomly thrown together. Maybe if you explained it a bit more, I could help you with whatever you’re trying to achieve with it.
Thanks for your advice man!
On the fire/air+might/fury dual dagger I changed Burning Precision to Spellslinger.
I revised air/earth DD and switched to signets and lightning flash to land Churning Earth. I kept Soothing Winds cause I just feel I need the healing for that build to keep above 90% health.
For the wvw staff build I dumped the healing stat, changed some of the traits, took up glyphs and sigl of battle.
I can’t wait to try these out! Seems like they’ll deal lots of damage and have somewhat decent survivability.
Don’t you mean Guild Wars 3?
I’ve made a fresh ele for playing wvw/pve. But I’m juggling about what I should do about builds since I’m trying to keep at least two exotic sets I can switch between.
Currently I’m building towards a wvw/pve staff ele with a life on kill sigil for added support.
The other three are a bit harder to figure out…
I have two dagger builds:
fire/air+might/fury dual dagger
air/earth dual dagger
The first DD has more damage factoring crit/100%critdmg but pretty sunk in survivability. The second DD bans conditions and has a little backing from conditdmg. It also gains a little bit more in healing but I could also switch bloodlust sigl for life.
The last build is a scepter/dagger ele. Tbh, I don’t know the state of conditions for ele atm and I don’t even really know if I should use dagger or focus in the offhand.
TL:DR
The first three are for doing so much insane damage that enemies will melt or run away. The last is cause I wanted to try something with “bursty conditions.”
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
Eh, people are focusing on the relationship/orientation part…
There are a lot of things that obviously can’t be determined as this is a limited story with almost no background on the characters ranging from how they lived, where they have lived, how did they environment affect them growing up, etc. etc. and just stuff we won’t ever know.
And FYI it’s inter*species* romance between Rox and Braham (if there even is anything). They aren’t genetically similar if you couldn’t tell.
And about race? Neither Norn, Charr, Sylvari, Asura or any other of the “races” are “human” though they are humanoids.
I can’t believe how entitled people feel…so what if you have to spend money to get it. There are people who will try. This game provides a ridiculous amount of content for free…and you dont have to spend the money to play the game. It’s just an appearance thing.
Really kinda kittenty. I am fine with it like this.
I kind of get the feeling from you that you can only be “entitled” if you have the money to get what you want. All. The. Time.
And not having money garners a response along the lines of “you have no money? you have no right to complain.”
GW1 players aren’t the important demographic anymore. It’s GW2 players that consist mostly of new players from various mmorpg games.
We’ve become expendable and exploitable.
I absolutely bet that GW2 can afford to lose 95% (arbitrary) of their GW1 players. The other 5% would be those “diehards…:” Can’t make then understand… They’ll come to see one of these days…
You may call it recycling, but I would say it’s catering to nostalgia.
Can’t they do both? This is, AFAIK, the 2nd time they have revived old skins. That’s certainly not a lot. You have a whole bunch of newer GW2-specific skins.
I know that these weapons are “for GW1 players,” but then again they aren’t “just for GW1 players.” It’s definitely a “win” for anet though there’s likely a divide on how GW1 players feel about tormented weapons being tossed in BLTC vs having challenging content to obtain them with (as it was in GW1).
so what kind of fallacy is it exactly? ad hominem? strawman argument? reductio ad absurdum?
“No true Scotsman” is one of my favorites, so maybe we could find a way to work it in?
Yeah OP… It’s not good to start your argument off with a fallacy…
I do understand where you’re coming from though.
so what kind of fallacy is it exactly? ad hominem? strawman argument? reductio ad absurdum?
It’s also possible to have a more than a few fallacies smashed together in one sentence, even in the OP’s first sentence…
Ambiguity, black/white, false cause…etc.
Also I would like to suggest that you, ANET, be better about advertising your content. It would have been nice to know back in December that no new pve zones, game play mechanics, or player generated content would be coming out until April.
Why would they do that? That would only encourage less people to play.
Transparency?
Taking a skin from a previous game, that was slowly earned by playing the hardest end game content in said previous game, polishing it, and putting it in the gem store.
You could not have disgraced these skins any more.
From
- Elite end game skin earned from hardest end game zone
To
- Cash shop skinWhen is there going to be any hard content in the game, which also rewards progress towards unique skins? (and no, not public pug infested raids)
I’ll be buying them out of the TP that’s for sure, still doesn’t solve the fact there’s no hard end game dungeon/zone to earn things like this.
Oh, and the tormented hammer and staff look nothing like their GW1 counterpart. Two of best skins (after shield) have been butchered…..
I would agree with you if they did this all in GW1. But GW2 and GW1 are separate games, and skins that mirror themselves in both games need not have the same requirements, especially considering a significant chunk of the GW2 playerbase never care for GW1 (which isn’t an MMO)
Even so, I can’t get past the idea that they can’t create something original for solely GW2 and have to recycle skins from another game.
Is it simply cutting down cost for some cheap revenue?
Another poster made note of this in another thread on tormented weapons…
Where’s the inspiration?
I was looking forward to them a lot, but I feel most are a bit of a joke.
- They have odd purple spirals and different effects added
- They sizes are all messed up, hammer/shield used to be a few of the biggest weapons around, now quite tiny, focus/scepter are now (in my opinion) oversized
- They don’t look as much like a set anymore; some are black/purple and others more grey/purple and only a few have the purple swirls. But I am proud they listened to their community and added the weapons. I’m not 100% fond of the Black Lion Ticket system but it seems rather effective, there’s always plenty of supply on the Trading Post at relatively reasonable prices (60g/ticket’ish) We all decided to play an MMO without a subscription, those who expect no money-grabbing moves are really beyond me. Guild Wars 2 is made by a company with the goal to make money, not ‘just’ to please you. They gem-gold/gold-gem conversion is brilliant aswell. Anything I want, I can get with ingame money. Those who rather do it the other way around, can chose to do so aswell. I’m not saying Guild Wars is flawless, but I think it’s system is working fine, even if that means not everything I want is handed to me on a silverplatter.
As for the gw1 vets. We played Guild Wars 1 for our enjoyment, not to get some ‘advantage’ in another game. We got our rewards and we should be happy they give us nostalgic moments like these, but every player in the community should be allowed to enjoy it. We’re not special just because we enjoyed a different game aswell.
They need to make their money. That’s fine. I just want to see the game get to a point where the content being added is permanent and doesn’t take a backseat to the Gem Shop.
It would also be nice to actually make new stuff instead of recycling gear from a completely different game.
GW1 was the worst game i ever played. Bought it just to get HoM achis and i was prepared for crappy graphics, but was definatelly not prepared for a game wholly designed to be a major pain in the backside.
-Having to switch builds with nearly every map, why on earth would i want to do it all the time? I find good build i want to play it end of story.
-Extremely small inventory. With all the trash that drops that suddenly turns out to be usefull when you find some npc vendor who trades for it. Seems you need to carry everything you loot with you for such npc vendors yet there is no room for it.
-Grouping… major pain in the backside. Use fast travel and group is gone.
-Exploring, yeah forget it, millions of enemies everywhere that cant be skiped, succesfully kill any will to do that.
-Lvl cap of 20 yet you end up fighting lvl 30 npcs all the time.
-escort missions with 0 control over npcs you escort.
-Lack of trading post, as new player buying anything or finding out if the offer is right and not overpriced is impossible.
-No alt-tabing support. Well you can alt tab if you like to watch npcs teleport all over the map.
-Always stuck in party, can never do anything on your own, you will always have a group which you will always have to micromanage to get anything done.
-micromanaging, micromanaging, micromanaging, micromanaging, all the time, everything.I’m glad i did not play GW1 before playing GW2, would definatelly not give GW2 a chance if i did.
From this post, you can tell that GW1 was a niche game that only appealed to a minority of the mmo gamers. It was not a simple “jump in and start thwacking monsters” game.
GW1 came about six months (Apr 2005) after WoW came out (Nov 2004) and people were still warming up to the game. WoW eventually took off setting up standards for future mmogs. GW1 remained fairly niche but gained a little buzzed compared to WoW. GW2 is just Anet “catching up with the times” of mmo gaming…
We won’t see a return to GW1 mainly because the the mmo gamer pop of today consists of players with experience in WoW or the plethora of similar F2P games (Chinese/Korean/Japanese).
Gamers of today have been nurtured/cultured to learn and understand certain mechanics, that you now see in GW2.
The fact of the matter is…GW1 wouldn’t succeed/survive in today’s environment.
Also GW2 is not a genuine successor to GW1. Only in name and lore.
Tormented weapons should have been exclusive to players with accounts in GW1, and who had Tormented weapons in their HoM. I don’t agree with them being shared with everyone.
Why should they have been exclusive to guild wars 1 players? The existence of tormented weapons doesn’t affect the weapons you currently have in gw1. Also where was this argument with respect to destroyer weapon?
Honestly, I hope anet adds more gw1 weapons and armor, especially the Obsidian armor.
Because maybe Anet should do something new instead taking things from a game they’ve been trying forever to cut themselves from.
Zodiac, aetherblade, and some of the weapons sets (except sclerite) were welcome additions.
But now we have this unwonted pandering to GW1 players?
Doesn’t make any sense, unless um Anet is doing this solely for the purpose of stripping the bills from our wallets.
There’s not even any lore or explanation for their sudden appearance. There’s not even Elona (or will there ever be). They just appear!
STOP HOPING, it won’t happen now and sadly it might never happen, no elona, cantha or anything related to GW1.
They made it quite clear they’re trying to get away from it. I hate them for it, but there’s not much I can do.
GW1 will hold that special place in my heart forever. BEST LORE I’VE EVER SEEN
With the release of tormented weapons, they aren’t trying hard enough to cut themselves from GW1….
As the link indicated, you can choose to have a guaranteed way to purchase tormented skins. Wait a day and the prices will fall down to 60g across the board.
If you choose to gamble and lose, don’t blame anyone else.
Alright that’s reasonable.
It feels like a process with those able to wait out, come out the winners.
Tormented weapons should have been exclusive to players with accounts in GW1, and who had Tormented weapons in their HoM. I don’t agree with them being shared with everyone.
With how this was implemented, it feels like it alienates GW1 players…
Anet should just…sever connection with GW1…
It would be better to have more “GW2 things” like the zodiac armor, aetherblade set, etc.
HoM was great but that should have been the only “tangible” homage to GW1.
Lore is fine I guess as long as it makes sense between the settings of GW1 and GW2…
(edited by blakdoxa.7520)
Whoa.
This necro man.
Yeah OP… It’s not good to start your argument off with a fallacy…
I do understand where you’re coming from though.
It’s good that they took this into Gw2. But for kittening sake, why are they locking it behind tickets ONCE AGAIN! Are they serious with us! Pomp more money our of us like this. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Get us P2P Instead of this kittening major bullcrap! I will kittening quit this game soon becouse this is inmoral kitten they are doing to their fanbase!
Because ticket sales work? I’m sorry you cannot afford the real $ or the in game gold to afford these weapons. If you want something free, you have you flame sword.
So you’re supposed to be right because you are willing to pay $xxx.xx (yes hundreds) or gold for BLT keys without any guarantee that you are getting what you are paying for?
You and the person you quoted are certainly living under different circumstances, in where you either have the money to blow or have the time to acquire gold in this game and they seem to not have this luxury.
Still doesn’t make it any better to enable or appease pleasures/addictions.
All hail hedonism.
Anet should just stop implanting anything into gw2. Hey, why not just quit making the game any further….I have spend more money on this game than I have on wow for a hole year! Their are litterly idiots right now. Soon they will get protesters outside their main building. They are kittening us over and over again.
Actually it would be better if they didn’t do the GW1 players anymore favors and just had new GW2 stuff instead…
I mean this is just fantastic….
Fissure of Woe or the Underworld? Realm of Torment? They weapons came out anyways… BLTC…pfft…
Maybe we’ll see dwarves and destroyers again.
I’m not sure anything else from GW1 sticks out here. More than likely it well be something new and unrelated to GW1.
Wow… It’s really unbelievable.
…
No I take that back I can believe it.
“It was all for the money.”
GW1 players! Feel free to gamble away your life savings for one tormented skin!
ESO is really a below average game in every way. I’ve detailed a better post on this elsewhere but basically it’s a very lackluster game that doesn’t bring anything new to the table.
Many of the games like ESO, LOTRO, SWTOR, Rift would have been great games had they released instead of WoW. They didn’t though. They each try small tweaks to a gameplay style that is around 10 years old. ESO may get some players to start but I don’t think it has the longevity GW2 has; those players will be back.
The age of sub MMOs is over. Let alone moves like paywalled races at launch.
mmorpgs have gone as high as they can go, really. In the past couple of years there hasn’t been significant innovation in how mmorpgs are developed and played, except GW2’s combat system (at least for me).
The only way companies/developers can go is hybridization, BUT the costs for something that MIGHT fail is too high these days.
I don’t understand why you want to hit the builds when the skills and traits make up the build. If you break those traits and skills you cause the domino effect that topples people not using the “righteous meta” builds.
Then first list the build you hate and you can go ahead and blame the skill for the reason why the build exist.
I don’t want this thread to devolve into healing signet thread.
For me?
Anything that can chain CC such as stun, fear or immobilize.
Players don’t get by with the stun breakers/condition removal we have. We don’t have defiant either and stability doesn’t seem to last long enough effectively combat rampant CC.
Mechanically, I just don’t like how CC is handled in PvP and PvE, but I like daze. Daze is pretty useful and at least you can still move if dazed.
Still like someone mentioned earlier. I don’t necessarily like builds being specifically targeted or singled out. It’s already a hard enough task for the team to balance interactions between the skills, traits and the players without singularly hitting on a build.
I don’t understand why you want to hit the builds when the skills and traits make up the build. If you break those traits and skills you cause the domino effect that topples people not using the “righteous meta” builds.
I guess you guys want to break PvE too.
Yeah go ahead break conditions without realizing how it affects just about everything else about combat.
It’s fine.
Doesn’t seem like folks understand ongoing software development…
Maybe something interesting with races and weapons will happen once GW2 reaches half-life.
That was a BIG problem with having the number of skills GW1 veterans want. There were so many builds that could completely break and trivialize the content, and every time one hole was plugged it simply opened up a different one. I didn’t like it one bit, and I’m glad GW2 hasn’t gone down that rabbit hole.
Having a lot of skills was cool and amazing for build diversity.
But the real problem was the “dual profession” system implemented…
Yeah it was completely and totally unprecedented that took Anet by surprise. Don’t ever underestimate your playerbase. There are people that aren’t as smart as the devs and there are definitely people that can outsmart the devs.
Underwater? Not many people like to hang out in Orr, which comprises most of the underwater content in the open world…
Underwater gameplay was an interesting concept at the start but it apparently feel flat, with very little gain in the underwater fractal…
The issues with Guild Wars 1:
Shadow Form
Ether Renewal working with Protective Bond
Signet of Spirits not being tied to Spawning Power
Obsidian Flesh
Hundred Blades
Vow of Strength (post Dervish change)
Save Yourselves
Pain Inverter
Everyone thinking Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support was a high DPS ability
Assassin’s Promise working with non Assassin skills
People using skills that are 100% from the secondary profession (I’m looking at you ?/Rt people)
Destructive Was Glaive dealing the damage it did, yet not causing Exhaustion (Overcast now, I guess), when comparing to elementalist skills that did LESS damage and still caused it.
Unyielding Aura and/ Healer’s Boon, or kick (Glimmer of Light is best elite <3)Probably more, but those are what stand out the most. And no, I didn’t use any of the aforementioned skills, I liked using my brain to make creative skill sets and use sets that actually required more skill than pressing “1” and win game. I mean really, if you died with Shadow Form you were pretty bad :p
I also didn’t care for the boring fighting mechanics:
1) Stack here using choke point
2) Wait for tank to ball em up and snare
3) Spike em downI can go on and on, but this game is a lot more challenging, and I love it for that =)
Someone had to create those combinations in the first place. Thousands of players didn’t just start using them all at once (i.e. became OP overnight). It took effort for people to take the time to create amazing builds. they took off after gaining “exposure.”
Also what’s wrong with using the most effective means to take down an enemy? Also know that you are fighting an AI which are definitely more predictable that humans given their technical limitations.
Anet can not fully comprehend some of the minds behind the characters. Apparently, defiance and one-shot skills say something quite clearly in GW2…
Just how long will it be before we see agony in PvE and WvW…
I wonder….
To date there is only one known enemy that uses Agony. It is the Mursaat and if they appear than in PVE and WvW (if they exist in WvW) there would be agony (caused by Spectral Agony).
As per GW1 lore, there’s only one murasaat left in the world of Tyria. Unless they come from some other dimension or realm it’s unlikely they will come to GW2. I mean just think of the plot holes!!
Potentially a disaster would unfold if agony came out. It would increase the need for ascended gear putting off players without the gear and restricting access to content requiring agony resistance. That would be a “fine” way to shoehorn VP in the game.
Pick one that will allow to get your ascended sets for all your alts faster…
hahahahahaha
Just how long will it be before we see agony in PvE and WvW…
I wonder….
We’ve had a lot of these threads since launch.
But they didn’t really go anywhere.
If you really want to see you idea come to fruition, instead of spitting ideas out here: put in an online application to work for Anet.
Devs have to consider time, development costs, scheduling, technical limitations, balance and all sorts of mess that could stretch over a year because of the idea droughts and other hiccups as well as “issues already in the game” they have to deal with. Not to be faced with the fact that the new ideas will have to mesh with everything that’s currently in the game now.
Anet probably has nowhere near the amount of resources to do this lol.
GW1 was uniquely developed and could only really appeal to a niche base of online gamers. It was amazing and I loved it but I know many people that have played games similar to WoW (the industry standard) and are stubbornly resist to adapt to games like GW1 (mechanically). GW1 was an exception and now in order to gain a wider player base GW2 was created. GW2 is not a successor to GW1 at all. Just in name and lore only.
GW2 is a completely different game mechanically from GW1 and definitely more similar to WoW. Why? Many, many people played WoW or similar games (korean/chinese/japanese F2P mmorpgs), thus being the dominant type of player developers/companies need to appeal to. So it makes perfect sense that Anet decide to shift their focus from a niche group of players to “mainstream” players that would definitely provide them with more revenue.
Like I saw in another thread. Games today are definitely about the money and marketing. They definitely aren’t made for the player anymore.
Either way mmogs will die out once everything switches to mobile gaming….
ha, it was intended.
May as well go delete all your alts!!

Oh man! I’ve missed this kind of threads!!
What would life be like if we didn’t have theses coming up ALL THE TIME!!!
Imagine the possibilities!!!
Nah man!! DUAL professions have to come 1st.
OH YEAH THEY’LL INCREASE THE LEVEL CAP ALONG SIDE RELEASING
DUAL PROFESSIONS AGAIN!!!!!111oneone
That will be the day.
Moar powah to the casuals!!!
My god. This is so much like reading the daily politics comments on CNN. Uncanny.
Very unlikely. Due to their stance on expansions. Don’t even expect this years down the road maybe after GW2 10th anniversary.
Dueling? Ha, I’m not sure the devs want to spend several weeks trying to put that in and deal with all the future complaints it WILL bring.
So few know what power creep is… Saddening.
Hilarious.
I remember when this skill was very underused, mainly for niche “super duper signets” warriors…
It gets buffed and now players want to destroy the skill…
Oh the irony.
I don’t get why people say they are “helping” each other. It’s pretty mindless. You might have 30-40 people involved in the circuit but you don’t see any communication other than “troll up” or “oak up.” Is this the way communities are built now? That if there is any sort of break in the routine people go off on a tirade?
Really it’s like the daily life of your average joe cubicle worker. Get up, change, eat, work, home, sleep, again and again. No break, no sort of deviation. Just a dull and sordid existence.
Break them and liven things up.~
I don’t like her.
That self-righteousness will lead her astray. Soon she’ll be using her own warped sense of justice to persecute, imprison and execute her enemies. All for what is “right” and “justice” in her eyes.
I’m sure you’ve all seen this plot device before…
You will all see her fall into madness just like Abbadon when he believed it was a good idea to give humans magic in the first place.
I believe it can be done! I haven’t tested it yet but I just cooked up the possibility with this
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIMQNAR3ejcOJvNPWPMxBEkiroKOKAQmI9YMQj0A-jEzAoLioZCSgIRwJwhsmGjYFMsV3gUejmeBTdKkqUjsLpIa1CBgcMA-w
Basically punishes people for killing you. I’m not too sure how Furious Reaction will play out though. You will (should) have permanent fury. (gs burst+shout+signet)
0/20/20/30/0
20/Furious Reaction+Forceful Greatsword
20/Shield Master+Cleansing Ire
30/ Desperate Power+Lung Capacity+Vigorous Shouts
Gs+A/Sh
Healing Surge+FGJ+Shake It Off+Fear Me+SoR
The play would be pretty simple. Make sure you keep up with enemies with cripples/swiftness/movement skills. You can pretty much beat things to death and do so even more if you’re dying as well.
@blakdoxa.7520 is a duel, if you agree to have it it is because you want it.
Is not like WvW where you can get pwnd just because the other wants.
For real, sometimes it feels playing PVE is the same as playing The Sims.
It is all about skins and archivement that gives you more skins.
I dont see how this improvement will serious affect any your current gaming.
I won’t duel, unless I go to the pvp lobby.
The main issue is when people start complaining about balance because they are getting melted going 1v1 in the open world.
Those people complaining will take to the forums, tickets, reports, etc. and the first wave of “dueling” nerfs happens.
This will be a wholly different game then.
You don’t want the game to be rebalanced because of pve dueling. I’m telling you for real. The ability to pve will disappear from some classes. This will affect pvp too since Anet seems to not like splitting pvp/pve. Between pvp and pve there are different stats and different builds solely built for a singular purpose. (point defense, roaming, conditionmancers, zerk/dungeon crushers, etc)
PvE dueling will likely displace many builds in the short run that were essentially long term, reliable builds for whatever purpose.
It’s already enough to deal with the class balancing around pvp now and really pve dueling doesn’t need to be involved.
There’s no dueling in the open world because it would be horribly imbalanced.
There are the food buffs, nourishments, and BLC boosters that are some of the issues with dueling in the open (pve) world.
Are all of you prepared to face the horrible pve/class nerfs due to people complaining about “op classes” from imbalanced dueling?
I’m not and I’m sure as hell MANY people don’t want to face that either, ESPECIALLY “pet” classes.
