Archeage has some great ideas, but they bolted them on to a fairly mediocre MMO core. Imagine if GW2 had housing, farms, and other features. It would be an unstoppable behemoth.
I like AA but I’m with you on the mediocre part…. But I don’t think we seriously expect most companies to detract from the things that made mmos successful in the past even if they have been done 1000+ times but only prettier.
I still give props to gw2 for taking a stand but it’s already shown it won’t be the game changer in the industry.
If I could find an MMORPG without requiring it to act like a FULL TIME Job to get anywhere …
Ironically, this is more likely to happen if substantial numbers of MMO customers stop demanding that MMO’s fill their every free moment.
Totally support this. MMO shouldn’t be a second life at all.
I play a few steam games from time to time to take a break from gw2 or minecraft when I feel it’s safe not to die from lava.
And really, the most demanding aspect of gw2 and the most played mode is PvE. It would be nice if PvE’ers could be content with all they have… I mean us PvP’ers/WvW’ers sure are satisfied with the state of our affairs…
My god!
Can we please differentiate between “changing existing features” and “NEW features???”
Rehashing junk and acting like it’s new ‘does not’ make it “new.”
Anet please, just stop trying to buff ai builds no one wants another spirit ranger in any pvp, whether its hotjoin, soloq or teamq. I actually want to fight a player and not lose to ai/passive effects in pvp. After all, it is call player vs player for a reason. If I want to fight ai I go do pve.
it doesn’t have to be viable on sPvP to be viable. they might be making it into a nice build for PvE.
balance =/= PvP balance.
That makes sense to us. But clearly not to anet and unfortunately they are law.
Numbers, numbers, and numbers. Is that all anet is playing?
Seems like it! You can only catch some of the people you want to please with this “whack-a-mole” way upper anet is running this game.
Like Vayne is saying, “where’s the communication?” It’s like anet has built a fortress around themselves, where only a “little mailbox slot of player concerns” filter through.
Seriously all the hype and the feature pack itself is nothing more than a smokescreen to cover the “more unpleasant” parts of GW2. The veterans get up and leave, unable to deal with their pent up frustration of being in the game, as it is, and then having to see these “updates” claiming to “change the game” do nothing of the sort.
Worst thing to me is that as the veterans go new players come in aware of the broken classes, dungeons, game modes, etc. and continue on knowing nothing…
As for me, GW2 is just a hangout for WvW. But since anet is constantly swirling wvw in the toilet, I might not be around long anyways.
Many already know upper management with anet/ncsoft blots out the concerns of customers and even the voices of their own staff, in actual game development…. It’s no wonder to me that only charts and numbers have any value to the corp at this point.
I’m just lovin’ how common it is for players to have 300g. I mean just lyin’ around like junk change.
Really speaks to me that there is some sort of underlying issue with the economy for all of these gold sinks cause they seem to be really kitten necessary, don’t they?
We gotta 1 up WoW guises!
your analysis of spvp doesnt really make sense, the only way to win is to interact. For other sports that work this way see, boxing/ufc/wrestling etc.
As far as strategy and movement, it has that. I perfectly understand not personally liking conquest, or wanting new modes, but there is nothing inherent to capturing points that is not sport worthy
I just explained what isn’t cohesive to healthy strategic play, did you actually read my post? The problem isn’t that neither party is required to interact, it is that only one party is required to act on the other. In a good game, interaction is a constant flow of ‘play’ and ‘counterplay’. But in GW2, because of the win condition, it instead becomes a rigid back and forth of ‘play’ and ‘non-play’, or inertness.
Once a person makes a successful first move or gains any advantage, their optimal strategy (the only strategy) from that point on is not to play against their opponents and best them to gain points, but to prevent their opponents from playing against them at all to garner the highest point gain. Dodge, blocks, armor and health, and healing are all the most important parts of the conquest game mode, there is a reason every tourney has 3+ bunkers per team. The only active play to bunkering is interrupts. All bunkering tactics are things you act upon yourself or use to stop your opponents interaction, and all are up frequently enough that you do them largely regardless of your opponents strategy. All burden of play is on the person who has no ability to gain points or proceed towards a win, without any requirement of interaction or counterplay from the person who is gaining towards a win.
That is unhealthy for any play environment, you should be required to actively play for point gain and to win, not actively play for the opportunity against someone who is not being actively required to take any action against you, but only play on his own behalf in order to ‘not lose’. And then once that opportunity is gained, you as well become rewarded for becoming the immovable object.
Under this game mode, there will never be strategic depth, there will never be build diversity. And without those things, there is never going to be any opportunity for it to become an esport. It’s not even that hard to fix either, there are just certain design objectives Anet refuses to change or even take critique on no matter how obvious it becomes that their objectives were flawed.
Add in more varying methods of point gain. Give each map a mobile objective, give each map kill zones; you now have three objectives based on the meta-condition of map control, but which cater themselves to varying builds, open up team composition, and provide for diverse methods of play. I actually do NOT want more than one mode, that will lead to imbalance and cherrypicking map builds, but I do want one mode that actually works.
Amazing post about the poor state of pvp!
As for the rest of the thread…
Haha! I too believe this game will never reach the heights of esports!
Hey guys I think anet just wants to delete mesmer huh.
I mean you’d think the skill would do what it description says it does but nope.
Another one of those “since release” problems.
p2 should just evade backwards like Charr’s Hidden Pistol and boom defense!
Still don’t know why they haven’t done such.
i don’t know, i like being able to immobilize on demand. and it doesn’t solve the autoattack problem (or pistol 5 being far more favorable for melee skirmishes)
Something more like…
Body Shot
Immob 1 sec
evade 1/2 sec
Remove vulnerability because it wasn’t useful anyways. :S
AA? Maybe make it into a 2-chain skill that has some sort of extra effect.
Better roll GS/Ax. Way more reliable than having to use final failure.
p2 should just evade backwards like Charr’s Hidden Pistol and boom defense!
Still don’t know why they haven’t done such.
Anet should add a new stat: critical damage reduction. With a hard cap, of course.
I don’t feel bad about the adrenaline change.
SoR boon duration nerf and the buff to the adrenaline gain… That makes no sense to me as SoR is better off being used.
Rampage is no plague, no tornado, snow leopard or lich. Hell it doesn’t even make use of adrenaline unless you trait for something like berserker’s power or heightened focus. Along with having no warrior exclusive burst skill it weakens adrenal health due to all the hp stacked on…
Axe off still niche…
Aside from that…warrior had some DECENT buffs like finally removing condition damage from the rifle and making the gs burst somewhat remotely interesting…
I think you all are saying we need new goals to strive for… That aren’t time gated and/or require 250 of several types of t6 (or higher) mats.
Of my many issues with GW2, this is not one. One use for alts is to use them for different game modes. I have bunkers and zerkers and would rather have different characters for those types of play than carrying multiple sets of armor.
I get what you’re saying… I have a mesmer for spvp… cause that’s all I can really use it for since I mainly run wvw on my other characters….
It kinda sucks… But it’s definitely cheaper save transmute stones for looking good in matches.
Bunnies?
Who here remember the white god bunny we fought at the very start of this game?
Yeah, this game is very alt-unfriendly despite all the account-bound changes that have been happening.
Some of them are just krytan weapon reskins….
I guess this is the new trend… No more piece sets. No more mixNmatch.
Everyone looks the same, save a few dye swaps.
Go figure.
Holy kitten! People that actually support the new trait system?
Have you seen the traits thread? I mean this kitten Game Update: Traits. That thread right there.
In that thread there is hardly a voice, a single whimper showing their support of this horrible change (save the free respec, of course).
Oh you righteous and pious souls! Where have you been?
lol people are still crying about trait system . my gf was leveling her first char not so long ago and yes new trait system is great , she had motivation to unlock,do,go to places which she would skip for 99% . problem is with all crap chars from eotm but anyway if it is your alt go buy traits from vendor and dont cry . THIS SYSTEM WORKS GREAT FOR FIRST CHAR
Well for someone who is playing after Apr 15th not knowing how the previous was perfectly fine (save the free trait reset), of course.
It’s also funny that you talk about someone else’s experience rather than put out your own.
If you want to pro pvf
come here~ http://www.gw2wvw.net/
Here’s your own thread here too!
http://www.gw2wvw.net/topic/sor-dh-nsp-25-july-2014-01-august-2014
I think this thread purely for pvf.
They are separate games. With the only real bothersome thing being that the successor of Guild Wars is named Guild Wars 2 and not Dragon Wars or some other wackadoodle name. Being name GW2 does Guild Wars a great disservice to it’s legacy.
Maybe they will announce gw3!
It’s not about min-maxing so much as that people run bearbow and either:
- have no sort of support for their team
- don’t do a lot (or any damage)
- sit on lb and the bear (they don’t weapon or pet switch)
- play at max range from the boss to aa
- get downed at max range away from other team members
- die (pet usually dead too, so no pet rez)
Yeah… I wouldn’t ever use a bear with my ranger but maybe murellow or polar bear (after patch).
They are likely phasing out the “underwater world.”
It was a good concept but probably ran into “issues” and was dumped altogether.
Heck even some of the newer skins don’t have underwater versions.
Also the majority of content is on the surface including all of the current LS (last few releases as well)
At the least we can say underwater will be limited to exploration or just taken out (with an convoluted explanation).
Oh kitten I logged in just for this….
Do you see that those back skins each correspond to a crafting profession?
I making an guess here but I bet those exclusive “China-only” back pieces allow them to craft anywhere in the world.
Only thing I want is the player2player trading. The rest can hightail it outta here.
I mean I’d love to give things or trade with my friends. People spending all day selling stuff are invited to my block list.
Scamming? It’s more a trust thing, kinda like how I only expect tp prices to continue sailing upward till the bubble bursts. I’m definitely more open to various trading options cause tp warring just doesn’t cut it.

You know what isn’t mentioned, but needs to be really be changed?
Fortifying Bond.
Why does this give Vigor when pets do not dodge. Why does it not give stability?
It’s so backwards…
Illusions need to spawn at the target and not freakin run up to it…
If they can’t do that I’d at least like the range on iLeap to be bumped to 900 instead of 600.
Thanks for the input, I’ll consider making changes if this doesn’t work out as planned and yes I wish it did work like thief’s steal, where the porcine would forage and immediately deliver the item to you.
Don’t discount that the warrior can also break flurry with weapon switching to stack immobilize with pin down. Just need at least 50% condi duration so you can switch back to sword for more bleeds.
Earlier today I was looking over the pets on the wiki, mainly because I was interested in the Porcine family (pig) abilities, in particular forage-siamoth. There is a 2/3 chance you will receive a stealth item, which can be used to refresh opening strike as well as providing self-defense.
So far I have this incomplete build that I don’t know what I should put in to finish atm. But I’ll give a simple breakdown of how it should play out:
Weapons – Longbow is pretty easy to explain. Skill 3 will put you into stealth and skill 4 to knockback an enemy, preferably against a wall or an obstacle. From there you ckittene jaguar’s ability and signet of the hunt to blow them up.
Sword/Warhorn – This is combo has both offense and defense. AA is straight up dps. Skill 2 for evading or escaping. Skill 3 is more important due to the poison it applies. It always feels good to screw someone’s heal up. Skill 4 is straight up dps and skill 5 for emergency water blasting.
The alternate set (and probably worth considering) is Sword/Axe. With axe you chain skill 4 on the longbow with path of scars and whirling defense for a heavy cc combo.
Pets – _Siamoth_’s forage ability has a 2/3 chance to drop a stealth item, which will be used for refreshing opening strike. It also has a knockdown and enough tankiness to make “Protect Me” useful.
Jaguar is the perfect dps pet for this build. It gains opening strike on stealth in which it receives a crit dmg boost. Pet’s Prowess further increases it damage and toss in Signet of the Hunt for another 50% damage boost.
Gear – Cavalier or maybe Valkyrie amulet. Runes I don’t know. For sigils, I was thinking and energy sigil on both sets for dodging and the 10% damage boost. For the other sigil not sure what I should use.
As for the empty slots in the utilities and traits… I don’t know what to really put in. My thoughts for what the last utility and the elite should be were Quickening Zephyr and Rampage as One. If I ever rolled Consume Plasma I’d pop RaO and QZ and go on an all out attack. Traits? I don’t know at all.
There are issues though:
- low hp (can be somewhat mitigated by steath and cc)
- reliance on siamoth rng (consume plasma)
- healing spring is the only condition removal (conditions suck as usual)
- potential boon corruption/epidemic bomb…
I’ll say now this is all mostly theoretical and I need some help filling in the gaps. I’m also hoping that this can spark some ideas and fan the flames of creativity, as well as be a light in the darkness to all the rangers out there. Not setting my expectations to high am I?
No one remembers this ghost?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Veteran_Bria
She overcame the curse.
They have been doing this for the longest time already to the point that gw2 lore very loosely based on gw1…
Real assassins looked like everyday people. What you have is outfit for a Japanese theatre, troped as something assassins would wear to kill people.
Lol
The assassin set is probably as far as they will go since they don’t want to trip any land mines in China.
I need to see this vid!!! You’ve got me interested!
Times were better when mobs had the same skills as players.
Now they are just generic mmo monsters.
This is the Sylvari’s story.
Gw1 was about the humans and Gw2 is all about the Sylvari with extra bits about other races.
I’ve been saying this for the longest time…
It’s sad that they gave up on underwater crap you can’t do or doesn’t work, maybe it’s for the best.
It will probably be for exploration only with a huge decrease or complete removal of underwater enemies.
Then you have underwater fractal!!! That feedback is gonna be great once that gets taken out…
Ice bow eles and cleasing wave eles, as in recover 50% of their hp in a splash while dishing out ridiculous damage.
I encounter an ele and end up fighting them for like 3-4 mins if I’m timing out defenses (as a mesmer). Even when a 2v1 an ele it’s like “wtf is this recovery??”
I think some of us came to this thread expecting a trollfest.
Hahahahaha
I see a lot of mesmers in hot join. But there’s really no variety among the mesmer builds. Same ole shatter/condition spam.
Even for my mes I have to use a PU variant spec and a disabling spec in pvp.
Selfish gear? What the hell are you guys on.
I understand wearing the zerk gear and that the combo gives significantly more damage than pvt, but I don’t get labeling pvt selfish gear.
It helps you survive plain and simple.
Just tried this and unfortunately you either pull them to your original location/go out of range/ or awkwardly damage them without them being pulled. Would be a pretty sick combo though!
Aw shot, it seems like something that could work with proper timing. :s
Seems the skills has a limit on them to prevent combos like that.
Too bad…a 2400 range pull… xD
I know someone has have to tried using scorpion wire and shadowstep together. Does it work?
Not as something actually useful in wvw but you know….for fun…
