What keeps me playing GW2? WvW and maybe a little PvP.

Honestly, don’t wait for the game to give you reasons to play. That’s the reason why a majority of people quit mmos. You have to make up your own reasons to stay whether it’s friends, WvW, fractals or whatever.

The only part of leveling new characters I don’t like is the trait system. I prefer the NPE however. I feel like characters level much faster.

And now, with the tomes I get in both PvP and even PvE, it’s less of a chore, assuming I want to use tomes to level. I hardly PvP at all as a percentage of time played, and I have over 40 level up scrolls.

But the trait system is admittedly frustrating. It means I’ll unlock or buy only what I need and not experiment with anything else.

Sorry to pick on you but I had to bold this part… Seems like Anet did what they wanted to accomplish.
For those that say it’s not bad… Of course it doesn’t feel bad if you’re going to just use tomes to skip all or the majority of the leveling. Actually experience. With a mesmer. All the way to 80.

Man it’s been forever since I’ve posted here…

By know I think folks understand that the current trait systems is in no way a reflection of how “skills and attributes” worked in GW1. IMO, GW1 has superior system where each of the trait lines had inherent powers that grew stronger the more points you put in. In turn you were able to strengthen skills unique to a trait line.

I have no idea why ArenaNet decided to take this away and not even try to expand on it.

There could have been thresholds where if you allocated enough points you’d gain a new inherent power in addition to strengthening the ones you already have. Skills could have been given special effects like inflicting stun or conditions if you maxed out a trait line.

There was so much that could have been done but it was all discarded…

This doesn’t do anything but promote stacking on the server mostly likely to win for the next several weeks.

Transfer to most likely to win > spend 5 mins on achievements per week > non-wvw stuff the rest of the time > MAX TICKETS

Before this update mesmer were able to stealth over revealed status, but our stealth did not stack as of consequence.

Now they made stealth the same across the board…. Likely due to the changes of allowing other classes to pin reveal on players….

Honestly I think warriors are in a pretty bad spot with adrenaline now. A simple reset kills their adrenaline and a lot of their adrenaline dependant traits were rendered ineffective.

Should also know stealth was nerfed or “made consistent” with the other stealth in the game…

Mesmer stealth didn’t stack but you could use over revealed status. Saved me many times but now we have the same stealth as a thief… It stacks but can’t stealth while revealed.

Okay. Mesmer stealth got jacked up…

It was fine that mesmer had their own unique stealth…

Trying to play power PU in spvp and this so-called stealth “fix” is really irritating…

Maybe a 3-5 sec block that grants stability for the duration and 1 sec of aoe protection for a hit on a 1 sec ICD.

And make shield 4 something else.

Honestly, like it or not, conditions are a part of being a Mesmer. It was back in Guild Wars as well, when hexes was our thing, and those being conditions too. Mesmer’s are very much a hybrid profession. We’re likely meant to deal damage through both physical attributes, but also through our conditions. It’s in everything we do, and by balancing between them, you will get stronger for it.

It’s perfectly alright to want to gravitate more towards the physical damage, but you can’t really escape the conditions. They’ll be there in practically everything you do. Trying to avoid them completely is almost like trying to avoid being a Mesmer.

I don’t think it feels any more right to play conditions on a Necromancer. But I wouldn’t focus all my energy on purely conditions as a Mesmer either. Just don’t forget that we were a condition class originally, it’s not like that’s going against our profession.

GW1 definitely implemented it better…. I’d rather have our profession mech be hexes and interrupts over illusions and shatters.

Some of us like using a staff…why is that so wrong? They are pushing this profession into being a condi user…we have to accept and embrace their new vision or find a new profession to play. I don’t enjoy being called a ‘cancer’ or bad for the game because I like my staff, I don’t play with PU and never have. Don’t assume all of us run PU. Sure the new torment is a little excessive, but you can really only manage 5-6 stacks without investing into condi duration (as the scepter over writes existing clones, you have to restart the chain…and you can interrupt the stacking process by creating more). You can play your shatter and still be a mesmer just as someone using a staff/scepter condi focus can still be one too. I wish the mesmer community would stop hating on itself.

We are are supposed to have build diversity…. I don’t like the idea of becoming a necro #2…

Now with everyone running rabid/dire gear, and having 1.6-1.8k toughness, I now feel running full berserker shatter is nowhere near rewarding even with the iLeap fix. Instead of soiling my mesmer with condition damage, or some other overpowered build i’m switching to necromancer where running condition damage feels right. Anyone else hate conditions on their mesmer or am I being over sensitive?

You’re being narrow minded and, unfortunate to say, a scrub. You’ve created a construct in your mind about how Mesmer should be, how it should be played, what’s “good, right, true, best, whatever”. If you’d like to see a shining example of this sort of poor gamesmanship, see Helseth’s rant on his feed pre-patch about the Mesmer readyup.

I don’t exactly have the link, its quite a while ago. But they implied guardian and mesmer has too long vigor so they change vigor on crit trait to half time vigor (doubling the CD or halving the vigor duration, can’t exactly remember which).

Doubled the CD. I know cause my guard was very disappointed.

I use Signet of Illusions in mt PPU build mainly because I’m traited for Illusionary Defense.
BUT I would never ever ever have a reason to use the signet…that passive is just too good.

Just curious and a slightly off-topic. If we want to add damaging RNG into staff auto and DD to replace vulnerability, what would it be? I think DD can have burn (with shorter duration) but how about staff auto?

Anyways I totally agree the defensive PU trait shouldn’t have an offensive boon like might. If they just want to dilute PU effectiveness then put retaliation instead, retaliation is only most useful in zerg situations and PU is not exactly the best in zerg. Vigor may not be an option though since ANet is trying to reduce vigor across many professions (mesmer included).

Critical Infusion + Vigorous Revelation + Runes of Baelfire = decent vigor uptime

I use that setup specifically for my PPU build. That way I can skip out on Energy sigils. I won’t let the vigor nerfs keep me down!!

I bet in the future Energy sigils will only restore 25% endurance…. Who knows… maybe this patch…

Retaliation feels like it would be the better “offensive” boon but it doesn’t negate or reduce incoming damage.
It strange how retal affects both a CPU and PPU mesmer, cause imo they don’t really work effectively.

CPU – low power/high defense, in other words retal will be doing peanuts in outgoing damage to attackers. Still it benefits them better because of their high defense as in being able to take hits big or small.

PPU – high power/variable defense, retal damage will be high but then you have to factor in the crappy 33% reduction in wvw/pvp. Retal loses its sparkle because of the nerf… On top of that, you have your defensive situation depending on how you’re built. PPU typically has low defense so we rely a lot of stealth/vigor/energy/protec/etc. in order to survive. Throwing in retal (or any other non-defensive boon) is really going to cramp our procs of protection and aegis potentially putting PPU in a bad spot if neither procs. Additionally, retal works against PPU because it needs to be hit in order for the attacker to receive damage. There are too many random things that could happen when attack such as a zerk thief cleaving the air, hitting you, procing both fire/air sigils and you go splat… Any class can do that or similar. What good is retal for…

I mentioned fury because it can assist bursting in PPU or at least help to proc on-crit effects from traits/sigils/food.

Hrm…

- I hate when Mesmers approach class changes through a singular, “tunnel-visioned” lens (usually PvP or WvW), and they forget there is a third mode of play (PvE). cough Scepter cough

- I hate when certain Mesmers achieve the rank of arrogance that some display on these forums daily. You may call them “experts.” The real word is “arrogant” or “pompous.”

- I hate when Mesmers act like know-it-alls.

- I hate when Mesmers contradict themselves.

- I hate how much animosity there is between PvP/WvW Mesmers and PvE Mesmers.

- I hate when Mesmers cry for Mesmer nerfs because they want to preempt the other classes crying for Mesmer nerfs.

- I hate when Mesmers are scared of being damage dealers. Any buff that increases damage, they immediately call OP, and say ArenaNet needs to nerf it.

- I hate how PvP/WvW Mesmers look condescendingly on PvE Mesmers. Just because you enjoy one game mode over the other does not make you better than those who enjoy the opposite mode.

- I hate arrogant Mesmers.

I have heard pu condi refered to as “the meta” over and over.. you understand it is just a trash hotjoin build right.. and is really bad in normal games.

it is not even “the most popluar build” it is a gimic spec that only works if you avoid all objectives in game or are carried.

Been saying this the whole kitten time. Yet people are parading around like this is the best mesmer patch ever. Active gameplay! Scepter is now viable! CPU is dead!

Just what in the world….

Maybe I hate seeing mesmers bound to the delusion that any “mesmer fixes” that come rolling through are any good in the long run. Like the mesmer’s past was completely rewritten or “this patch Anet is unveiling a new class named, Mesmer!!”

Yes, ofc, the whole spec is a bit meh because it’s entirely about getting attacked 1v1. But that’s the same right now.

It’s actually getting a lot of help in that last department from both the Scepter changes, and the fact that you’re highly likely to trait IE instead of the usual 4pts in Domination. This way you can top 1800+ Condie damage in sPvP (w/SoD) w/o Might, which gives you 780+ damage burns.

Runners will have it slightly harder with the Torment from Scepter AA & Clones, and overall you’re not as reliant on the clunky/situational Scepter #2 block to get decent damage output. Both the Staff and Scepter will be able to do significant damage on their own, without relying on Clone deaths.

My guess is, despite the nerfs, it will still be stronger 1v1 then the current PU, and most likely also a tad stronger still in 1v2 or even 1v3. Although, survivability will suffer quite a bit, so 1v3 is a bit harder to judge until we play the changes.

While that was a good assessment you forgot to take into consideration all the confusion, bleeding etc… that they will also be able to put up.

Really though its not the amount of condition damage a mesmer can put up its the fact they will be able to stack it so fast & reapply it quickly in the event you manage to cleanse it.

That combined with the fact a mesmer can stealth and hide makes them a real pain to deal with.

Really instead of letting clones apply torment with scepter AA #1 they should have just let the #2 & #3 AA apply it for longer duration then what it will after patch.

This would allow you to build up as much or possibly more torment then what you could with clones applying a short duration one.
But it would take slightly longer to build up meaning that cleanses wouldn’t be useless.

Problem is with Perplexity runes and condition extension – having torment on scepter skill 2 and 3 would be so OP.

This is just a way to make the scepter another viable weapon for mesmers. So many use GS and swords only.

Torment is already on scepter 2 and confusion is on scepter 3.
So……. Now torment on scepter AA…..
You see why this is cancer?
Slot Earth Sigil with either Torment or Doom Sigil and that person’s dead no matter what. Especially with poison…

That’s only for roaming as far as WvW is concerned.

GS and sword? Those are power mesmers.

I hate the class divide among Mesmers. I do have a GW1 Mesmer and have been playing long enough to have about 9k achievement. I also play on an old laptop with often crumby net.

Then I go out and do something that is regarded as dumb and get told something like, “You ain’t no Mez,” (sic)

There are no schools. It’s rare to to find someone willing to teach.

A new Mesmer has zero chance of getting on the high and mighty tier and is mostly on their own.

Thus ANET needs to make a faceroll Mesmer build available. That’s partially the fault of all you “experts” out there.

Yeah basically lockdown/shatter builds are what to look for when you want skilled play and yes it takes effort to master them. I’ve looked at some of the videos of people playing and they are incredible compared to CPU.

I don’t understand what you get out of wanting a build that going to get melted as bad as our confusion build was back in the day….

My only gripe is that AnSoft has all this money but I look towards WvW/PvP and see a wasteland. Sure you see some shrubbery planted every now and then but I desire and new landscape to transverse… Where’s the oasis..?

So your complaint is that even paint ball ranges change up there layout time to time. And that after two years of essentially the same set of goals, it’s now uneventful.

I had to change my view of Guild Wars 2. After trying out AA I took another look at gw2 and said “it’s not so bad….” I used to hate it too. How nothing seemed to change for these modes and it somehow was related to the gem store (as in these modes not drawing in profit?)
Though if I took that sort of view I would have gave up gw2 like the rest of my friends did… about 1 year and half ago…

Here’s my take.
In regards to Guild Wars 2… It feels inconsistent… Sometimes they get it right and sometimes they get it wrong. I usually purchase finishers or “piece” skins cause I believe they get those right. The Black Lion Keys and the new fangled Silver Fed Salvage o’ Matic… Clear misses imo.
Overall, I don’t think Guild Wars 2 is doing too bad with the gem store. The only way to really win at this game is by being a TP baron afterall. Even if you converted $1000 worth of gems to gold, it’s still fairly useless if you don’t know what to do with it beyond sinking it for pretty skins.
If you want to look at a real broken cash shop look to AA…. Smh… That’s a real cash grab mmog catering to whales and only whales.

Still we’re pretty starved here in WvW/PvP… That’s been my main gripe since I only PvE to grind my head into bits and pieces of flesh and bone and level.

On a more serious note,am i the only one seeing swiftness on pu as buff?And scepter AA change is just awesome.I even think that scepter clones doing torment beside usuall on crit bleed sounds bit too strong.

On other side,it would be pleasant if mesmer would be looked at his ability to play in organized melee train.The whole shatter/clone “phantasm/clone deal dmg” mechanic is kinda group unfriendly,maybe some trait to give dmg imunity to clones for few sec,or something.We cant really choose to ignore our clones/phantasms as other classes their npc followers.Or some more direct aoe dmg posibilities,or at least buff to signet for clones hp so we can MW inside aoe circles if we are fast enough.

Swiftness for 3 seconds. In stealth. It may help speed up repositioning but that’s about it and it wasn’t like you couldn’t do that without swiftness before but as someone else mentioned… in combat speed reduction…

Promoting passive gameplay is not good. :<

It’s going to be the confusion nerf all over again…

Confusion = punish people for attacking/not attacking
Torment = punish people for moving/not moving

On auto attack.

Honestly, if we had a faster scepter scepter animation MtD might actually be able to push out decent stacks of torment. Maybe a little bit slower than guard’s scepter but faster than necro scepter.
