I think people are underestimating blobs. The aoe limit is FIVE people afterall. The backline will just get larger and consist of more eles all dropping static and unsteady ground. With one ele you remove at least 2 with static and at least one with UG. Get at least 5 eles in your zerg and thats 15 stacks of stab gone, just like that. Realistically, there will be way more eles than that so GG. Oh kitten! I forgot necros! If you aren’t stacking boons your stab will get ripped and even fear you!

You are making some solidly blind speculation here, well everyone is really. Everything else may change completely once we have professional specializations, and the changes they bring.

Most people are looking to the precedents anet has set when it comes to balancing… The concerns are very real. I’m playing a guard and I definitely don’t want to camp hammer/staff for the next 6 months once the change occurs. I do understand your point though. With the new specializations maybe guardian can get a bow! I mean… I don’t want wvw to turn into a completely ranged fight…

Anywho, this circus will keep rollin’ till anet unseals their gums for Pete’s sake…

Yeah the stab change will hurt badly… Really guards will only be useful for stab boosting other classes and the hammer/staff combo. Immob MIGHT (resistance boon) still be useful, the wards will definitely be valuable and nothing beats that enpower.

More people will take up eles, necros and warriors for sure though.

What’s missing from the discussion is the “new to gw2” player and the “don’t read a wiki/research” player. Theses players go from 1 to 80 without knowing much about the trait system at all (something anet tried to fix..). I wonder how this new_erer_ trait system will affect them. Us seasoned players that read up, research and test the traits won’t be impacted as much as them that probably only looked up one build and use it for pve, wvw and pvp. I feel bad for them…

Oh yeah, stacked class teams. Played with triple mesmers and triple engys (myself as engy) just wrecked face. Also faced against a triple mesmer team and got my face eaten.

Doom is good in almost any build. Poison is so effective in wearing down all these kitten sustain builds. Some classes have no access to poison at all. Without screwing a bunkers heal up they would be simply unkillable.

With the frequency of balance patches, gutting the doom sigil would put pvp in an even darker age of condition dominance. Classes with no access to poison or kitten poor condi clear would get axed. For 6 whole months.

I just threw this thread out there cause I didn’t see anyone playing around with the idea that engy might become a viable frontliner in wvw with a hammer build.

What do you guys think?

What can we do to help you with the engineer as a whole my friend? Because if you think the engineer isn’t very front line capable now, then you must not know much about the profession at all.

WHen they design a GvG game mode, I might care.

Engy is sub-par as a frontliner, it lacks stability (and toss elixir B is the worst stability skill in the game), it offers less support than an AH guard or shout warrior, damage is either too slow like bombs or too susceptible to retal against competent guilds/groups.

Why would I need stability of my own when I am commander? I have 2 guardians in group for that.

Well stab will be getting changed (stackable like defiance) along with engy getting the hammer. Means Guardians will be less useful with aoe stab and you’ll likely be better off carrying your own stab/invul. I think if engy does go frontline, engaging will require Elixir S and the potnet elixir (20% incr duration) trait.

Bag farming in wvw. That’s what I use VoJ for. I can literally slot any “on kill” sigil there and reap the benefits. Might and blindness spam as long as bodies hit the floor. It’s kind cheap but I run it for the lulz in pug zergs.

Thieves are pretty predictable with stealth.

Stealth usually last around 4-6 seconds so count a few seconds and then block/evade/etc. Thieves usually try to attack before their stealth runs out.

The only problem to me is SR. When you see SR you should start nuking the area but with 12 secs+ of stealth it’s harder to predict whether the thief will attack or run away.

That’s about it for thieves’ stealth, from my perspective.

Been thinking about the possibility of frontline bunker hammer engy and spent some time in the builder throwing ideas out there. Course this build is incomplete (in more ways than one) without hammer.

BUT COME ON!!! Engy might actually be useful beyond roaming or ret-ing yourself to death!

There is nothing wrong with zerker gears.
As long as they remove the whole stacking thing , this game is fine as it is.

PS: you have no idea how hard mai trin gets when zerker players insist on wearing zerker but can’t dodge any single skill shots.

Had a Nomad Warrior face tank Mai Trinn on FOTM 50 the other day while the rest of the party stood at the edge of melee range and zerked. It was the fastest pug run I’ve ever done. Every lightning hit in full, Mai didn’t teleport, no one went down. Is this the ideal comp for speed runners? No, of course not. But for a pug group I was crying with happiness. I actually thanked the guy for bringing a Nomad set because he saved the rest of us from even having to dodge.

I think we need to highlight this post…

In regards to AI… Well the proof is in the pudding… Having that one guy set his build up to basically generate “threat” by having high passive defense and heal over any damage taken allowed his group to breeze through dungeon. Fractals 50 at that.

Most zerk specs are zerk AND support. You know.

Banners
Traits
Might stacking
Utilities
etc…

There’s more to the zerk spec than just damage. It requires setting up the best conditions to output as much damage as possible. Which actually includes support, if you didn’t see it the first time.

Yeah you want changes but have no idea what actually is taking place behind the scenes.

PvE isn’t just some module you can pull out tweak and/or swap out. They’d have to do a complete overhaul which could take up to 1-2 1/2 years. Having all those resources (money, time, people) is going so suck the marrow out of the rest of the game.
It’s likely they won’t do something major like that until maybe 2 more years or maybe even GW3.

It…… really would not take that long. It’s not as kittenome of the feature updates they’ve already made.

We are talking about all of PvE and even condition damage. I’d rather not have the game plagued with runtime errors or crashes…

It’s huge and you’re telling me anet should knead it, flip it, fold it, bake it and expect it to come out fine.

It’s good that you have your proposal but as GW2 is now, it’s not really feasible. Undertaking such a project could spend quite a large portion of their budget that they could have used for an “expansion.”

So they started with a “no grind” philosophy and but then added grind and (disingenuously?) said it was optional.

Honestly, I see only ascended being only relevant to PvE, but specifically fractals. That’s why there’s only agony in fractals and not anywhere else in the game.
For me, exotic is BiS simply because affordable and can easily be switched out for different playstyles or meta changes.
You can’t do that easily with ascended gear. Having one set of full ascended must have been a pain in the kitten to get, but whoops a significant change happens in the game and your set is nothing more than a wet blanket.

I can definitely see people making a “grind problem” for themselves if they want to use ascended gear outside of fractals or across alts. Seems like they want ascended gear to be as easily obtainable as exotics. What’s next? Legendaries? Well what do ya know, precursor hunt is just around the corner…
Where did that “I wanna grind!” or “I wanna be hardcore!” minority go to? Seems they shriveled up and left the rest of us to deal with this ascended contradiction.

My friend recently started playing GW2 again because he wanted to try out the living story. He’s been gone about a year or so. When he goes into the story journal and tells me he can’t play any of the previous episodes expect “Point of No Return” I’m actually surprised!
So are the living story episodes not free? or does he need to do something in order to unlock them for free?

Think of asura like little monkeys. Monkeys breast feed their young, so should asura. Charr are feline, and if you ever had a cat, you’d see that they have more than one pair of nipples to feed their kittens. Dogs too.

They were originally a subterranean race after all, similar to but not quite like the Dredge (molemen).

That being said I’m glad clothing for both races are unisex. I mean there are are hardly any defining physical features between the sexes, besides the obvious that needs no mentioning.

I don’t get how you guys are having problems with retal…
When I had my nade engy, I’d always make sure to find an advantageous position to drop healing turret. That allowed me to deal with retal and easily drop nades on a zerg. If I used any other healing skills, I’d just have to be smart and know when to stop spamming.

If you know the mechanics and attempt to go against them anyways, aren’t you just being stubborn?

However if you want to make a stronger case, talk about chaos armor and the nerf that it went through. Also, GS mesmer and DS necro too.

There’s probably less than 10 people that are as knowledgeable about the GW universe as him. I even understand where he’s coming from. The reveal was really overly dramatic. It’s similar to the feeling of watching a Transformers movie. It’s just flat out disappointing the direction the story is going for that Hollywood appeal.

Being proven wrong is nothing more than peanuts compared to seeing the GW universe becoming predictable or uninspiring (Kormir becomes god! Ta-Da!; Sylvari are actually dragon minions! Ta-Da!).

This argument is done… They didn’t go in that direction, they already committed to it ages ago. Angel McCoy said it was in the first concepts for the Sylvari, to Arena Net, they have always been dragon minions, Arena Net didn’t take the “popular route”, they already wrote that to be the case, multiple years ago. Konig might be disappointed, but that’s coming straight from Arena Net, it was intended the entire time. She even congratulates those that figured it out before today

And this is just to be believe as the writers now are likely not the same writers that making up the story about the Sylvari after they were solidified as one of the new races in Tyria.
Might I add that within the game itself Anet has not held to some of their design decisions from the start and flipped them or changed in some sort of way. The story is not safe either as shown through the obvious continuity issues or retcons.
To believe that this reveal was intended from the beginning is simply ridiculous.

So inconsistent…

That’s part of my complaint. The other is: “So how exactly does doing this relate to the Trait Mastery getting unlocked?”

At least with Elite Skills your target would use it. (This was a considerable problem with some of them.) After they changed the capture system, it was not too bad but the initial one was even more BS than Traits are now.

How?

You had to have the Signet of Capture ready, and you needed to hit it while targeting the user, while they were using it. For some of the Elites I just can’t see how that worked at all.

I’m not sure when you stopped playing GW1… But all you had to do was have the Signet of Capture, kill the boss and use the signet on their corpse. A menu would pop up that would allow you to select the skill you want to take, which would usually be an elite skill. It’s way easier to capture skills in GW1 than it is to obtain traits in GW2.

Not sure why you mention this. Look at the other professions… All of them have their own quirky weapon sets, that vary widely in their usefulness. From being overused to rarely used or niche.

yes every profession has weapon options for ranged/mid/upclose. What kind of content is designed for warriors to be ranged, certain situations sure its important to carry a ranged weapon. But who would ever think of warriors as anything but frontline

Well that’s what this game tried to change. It just wasn’t very well executed or thought out. So rifle is pretty much outshone by the rest of the warrior’s weapon sets with the longbow just being the better option, all around.

You see. Anet dug themselves a hole when they decided to throw in all of the differences. GW1 would have been pretty streamlined if you could forget their were dual classes but we don’t have that here so things should be easier right…? Nope. The vast HP differences, stat amulets (and stats in general) and the trait system made pvp in GW2 exceedingly difficult to handle… I don’t know how they are ever going to get to the point were they feel it’s “safe” to add new things to pvp, honestly.

Wow so there are still people that remember what the game was like around launch time. BWE and like the first couple of months after launch were the best times. Then came the living story (good-bye DE and PS), and the April update (good-bye trait system). After that the game just kind of wandered off somewhere…

Absolutely nothing makes me playing this game anymore.
I tried talking in forums i tired talking to A-Net communications….
but it only made it worse.

I am one of these hard core 10 years GW1 vets.
When i figured out how they pulled us over the table i got really disappointed.
it’s like they took everything out what made GW1 so great.
Basically they made a new game and put a GW label on to trick us in.

I also am one of the persons who is attached to GW and i don’t wanna play something else.
So in the end i made a happy cut and focused more on real live hobbys.

If someone asks me the A-Net head should be ashamed for everything they have done to us.
I hope you are happy with your by magic appearing “New Players”

I understand where you’re coming from… But it was already written that GW2 would be completely different from GW1. It’s a completely different game that’s loosely based on GW1. Emphasis on “loosely.” The best thing you can do is forget about GW2 and it’s relation to GW1.

I’m not sure if I’m summing up all the posts I’ve looked through but…

Games are shifting to being more about the economy and XYZ items apart of it and less about how they are obtained and experience that comes along with obtaining item X, Y, or Z?
You kinda get this feeling where an item’s value has nothing to do with how you feel or perceive it once you have but instead only it’s monetary value on the market matters. Nothing else…
