You’d be surprised at the amount of people who report themselves.
Right, but did they WANT to report themselves, or did they just click it accidentally because it was there?
Gaile has said they don’t want to offer voluntary name changes for various security reasons. However, they will often change your name if it contains your real name, Writermark. You should try filing a ticket with support and explaining.
I’m seriously tempted to switch servers to play with some of you other old farts.
Except Wednesday nights I play with my in-laws so they’d be sad if I left. I’m teaching my 60-year-old father-in-law how to Ranger.
Games that use a free+sub model generally have to heavily favor the sub model in order to get people to do it leaving the free players in the dust . Such models are always a bad idea because of that so i am very much against this idea .
I played a small MMO for years that tried to do both models. They started out as sub (FTP with subbing unlocking most of the endgame) and later added some micropayment servers. They tried to be fair and equitable to both kinds of payment models: things that were limited to subscribers were limited to “gem store” purchases on the other servers. They wouldn’t put things on one server that couldn’t be implemented on the other kind.
10 years later, they’ve all but given up on the sub server. It’s almost completely dead. It’s almost impossible to do content that requires 20 people in a group. And there’s not even an option to transfer your character to a different server: you have to start from scratch if you want to change payment models.
Sure, there’s several diehards with 4 or 5 subbed accounts who never ever want to switch payment models, but the vast majority flow of the game is to the truly FTP servers where you can exchange gold for that game’s version of gems. Given the option of subscribing versus micropayments, people tend to opt for the latter. It’s probably not viable to the sub model to have both options in the same game.
I’m 38, and am laughing at the ‘oh how nice the ancient decrepit mummies over 30 can still coordinate their feeble hands and eyes to click a mouse!’ feeling in the air.
I like you.
I like you both.
Yay! Party in the Salma District!
I think we can get an early bird special at the Divinity’s Reach Hometown Buffet.
1983 sounds about right. I would have been 10 so it must’ve been about that time. Did you have “B.C. Quest for Tires”? I loved that game.
I’ve been playing computer games since you had to program them yourself. (BASIC, anyone?) played p&p D&D….
Haha that brings back memories. I was the kid that would go to Radio Shack in the mall and program my name to go all over on the screen on the TRS-80 display. Later I had a Commodore Vic-20 with a cassette tape drive. I remember many hours with my nose stuck in Commodore magazine coding a game and many times having it fail. I had a few games for the cassette drive and would get home from school and start loading it, go watch cartoons and come back an hour later and maybe it actually loaded.
My RP also started with p&p D&D. Those were the days were most of the graphics were in your head aside from a few pictures to look at in books. Things certainly have come a long way since then.
I had the Commodore 64. No tape drive on mine, but that external floppy drive that liked to overheat and catch fire if you didn’t have a fan running on it at all times.

I like you.

Yeah, that’s going to get forcibly changed now that you’ve so thoughtfully brought it to moderator attention. I think there are very few games where any profanities in usernames are allowed.

Why not the Nintendo 64?
No way man, I want it on my Commodore 64.
i tried Tera and apart from being pretty it looked like a manequin – fancy clothes on the outside, stale plastic on the inside.
This has to be the best description of a typical MMO these days.
Lipstick on a pig, another fitting analogy.
The problem is those who do not remember the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat it. Unfortunately after watching some dev videos I can see why the issues continue in this genre. While these companies hire YOUNG devs cause they want the same like minds that would play the game to develop it, they also throw out the experience of the older devs that have been there and done that and learned.
I’m curious which videos you’re referring to. The last one I watched was the LFG preview.
afraid to ask in fear of getting infracted

So I have a question, then. I had an infraction awhile back. Someone asked if the term “white-knighting” was a racial slur, and I defined it for them. I was infracted for being “condescending and inflammatory” – which … I just defined it. I didn’t call the person who asked any names.
Now, I was ignoring it because I figured it was a mistake and not important. But if this hangs around in my records and causes a problem later on, I feel like I should address it somehow and have it expunged? Do I file a ticket for that?
I knew it was a male thing!
Makes sense, supporting in my (very little) experience is a female thing! (inb4 males that play support builds jump on me, I’m not being too serious)
Lol actually that is an accurate statement. Generally speaking, support is more of a female role, while damage is more of a male role. Simply due to basic human nature. Although, you do find exceptions to every ‘rule’ (which is why male nurses exist for example). I was just poking fun originally, hehe.
It’s funny because I see a lot of women say they like support classes. I loathe them, but my husband enjoys playing support. I just want to shoot at/stab things until they die.
You misunderstand, Zott just stopped swimming, he would not move forward and therefore could not revive Elli. I allowed myself to be killed, in the hope of resetting but he did not appear at the spawn point and when I swam to her, he still did not move.
The only thing which fixed this was restarting the whole thing.
I also have this problem. Zott won’t move, I can revive one guy and then cannot interact with anyone else. We swam around and tried see if there was something else we needed to kill for about 20 minutes before giving up.
If someone threatens suicide to me online, in a game or anywhere else, I report them immediately. There have been many instances where an online service has contacted the police with user information. In some places they are required to do so.
Keep reporting the other things, and I would file a ticket with his username that mentions his consistent harassment of you.
This is a known glitch where logging into the forums shows you being routed through the Texas server’s IP. It’s nothing sinister.
Well, this is why I don’t run dungeons here. Which is a pity, because I was really looking forward to using this tool and finally learning them.
The only thing I was addressing is the issue that the instance “owner” leaving the instance kicks everyone else. That existed before the LFG tool and has nothing to do with it. It’s annoying and frustrating and sucks, but it was already an issue.
Yes, the thing that the LFG system is supposed to be for has NOTHING to do with the system for looking for groups.
No, Quaker is right. That’s a separate problem with instances that the LFG tool doesn’t touch.
I believe he means “Public Service Announcement”. As in “Swapping weapons is great everyone should try it and here is why!”
Meh, this game community have real issues O_o. I hope you guys grow up and learn to separate real life from computer games. For now i think i have to make a break from gw2 for another half year.
One of the hallmarks of growing up is that one does not feel the need to blame everyone else for a failure.
Well in terms of characters, I feel like my Norn is a little racist. There’s Norn, and then there’s … everything else.
I’m kind of jealous of the human t3 female medium with the underbewb shirt. Totally hilarious.
If you can’t use the LFG-Tool for some time then that in itself is a punishment.
For example: If somebody leaves a group he/she joined through the tool within ~20 seconds then he/she shouldn’t be able to use the Tool for a little bit of time. (For example 2 Minutes.)
By doing it a second time within ~30 Minutes the punishment is extended to 10 Minutes.
By the third time within 1 hour it gets to 30 Minutes or something along those lines.Of course this sounds heavy, but… have you ever played League of Legends? Guess what happens there.
This is exactly how it works. If you join and leave, you get a timeout that gets longer every time you do it.
Unfortunately, it also gives you a timeout if you get kicked from groups repeatedly.
Party merge means 3 people can join Cookie and I after we duo all of path 4 and kick us instantly. This feature needs to be removed.
Why would you be advertising for a group at that point anyway?
It’s cross-server (in the same realm) for dungeons and fractals. It’s server-specific for personal story and WvW.
I guess, from what I’ve heard, that Ranger is the worst PvE class? IDK, I’m a sucker for pet classes and ranged attacks. I love rangers. Also enjoying the thief, switching back and forth between dual pistols and double daggers.
A few bugs in relation to dungeon / fractal groups need to be fixed still:
- Instance tied to the person who first entered, if he quits the group gets kicked out (also an issue if the instance opener leaves before people could grab the boss chest)
This is a problem with the instance system. The LFG tool can’t change that, unfortunately.
Hi guys, I’d like a new guild. I don’t PvP but I suppose I could be persuaded to try if it’s a helpful guild – I did some in GW1. I prefer a PvE focus and people who like leveling/personal storylines. Ideally, I’d prefer a guild with mostly players aged 30+.
My main is a Norn ranger. On Wednesday nights I rep a family guild, but otherwise you get my full attention. Prefer a good number of players on my home server.

Actually, it would be a GM who thought your language was bad enough to warrant the suspension. Someone reported you, and then ANet reviews the chat logs. So clearly more than one person didn’t find your language acceptable or respectful.
I feel like one of the benefits of being an average sort of player is that I don’t feel entitled to defeat new content the minute it appears. If it’s really hard I just figure I’m not good enough to do it yet. Did I have a lot of fun trying to beat Teq? Yes. Do I have ultimate gear? Nope.
You know what I do have though? The ability to follow directions. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to be “experienced” on a fight that just appeared, but if you tell me where to go and what to shoot at I can do that.
I don’t usually like the giant boss fights; there’s too many people screaming contradictory directions and not enough actual … teamwork. But this one wasn’t like that (except for one really angry dude the first time I tried it). There was a lot of helpful explanations and although we didn’t take him out either time I tried, I had a lot of fun doing it.
Then I said the above in LA and some guy screamed at me for trolling so …uh … I guess it’s not all good.
I have the same problem after the patch yesterday…
I saw my email and apparently nobody entered,I have changed my password game and email, but I checked my ip history and I saw an ip from TX , US (unknown to me) with my Date/Time of my current location every time I log in game…Is a bug, should I worry?
This is a glitch where accessing the website briefly appears to route you through ArenaNet’s server in Texas. It’s not anyone else on your account.
I’ve never used my guild bank. Totally not something I would have known!
Do guild banks work differently than personal banks? When I have my bank open and I double-click, the item just goes into my bags. And vice versa.
Question: Have you checked all of your characters? The mail shows up on the first character you log into after it was sent. I logged into a barely-used low-level alt when the mail was sent, and not my main, so I was confused when I didn’t have it on my main even though I didn’t open it on the alt.
Possibly you logged in with a different character briefly and didn’t check the mail on them?
I have to say, I’m pretty sure those people know what they’re doing and hoping the language barrier will keep them from getting caught. It’d be pretty hard to accidentally name your character with an entire sentence in a different language.
You are correct, you’re not supposed to get suspended for the first naming offense. I’m guessing based on your post, that English is not your first language? So I can see how you might have made an error.
You could try logging into each character, even before the 3 days is up, and see if it asks you to rename one of them, but if you’re not a native English speaker I’d suggest just waiting for a reply to the ticket, since you may need the help to choose something that’s clear.
@Yoda – I was trying to remember cases that were specifically about users and unenforceable bans, but I guess with a stretch some of those might be relevant. Thanks!
I have actually done some research on this topic, and I’m curious to which suits you’re referring. The only thing I can think of is the Shanda case, which was in China. And maybe the XBL class-action, which I don’t recall ever getting a final settlement?
Don’t really follow it, most cases would settle and there would be no more public information about what the terms are so people can’t really search for the result.
Sorry, I meant the OP. I just couldn’t think of any cases like that being resolved in favor of the player, other than Shanda.

Then Ill keep complaining. Until I get banned or until I get my Gems back.
You wont get either. Your just wasting your time. Have fun with that though…. like a little kid that didn’t get his way and thinks throwing a fit will solve the problem eyeroll
Not wasting my time. Have plenty for this. And ill keep doing it.
Plenty for this but not to use the character slots. Well, everyone needs a hobby…
How about changing your password to something you’re not using for 10 years on some of the known compromised websites (linkedin, twitch, sony, random boards, … endless list really)
Unique password per account, change regularely ESPECIALLY if people log in often. This is your problem, not a.nets.
While I agree that the security breach is probably on the OP’s end, I don’t think it’s helpful to make blanket assumptions about his/her password. Especially since s/he already said s/he is changing it.
Has your friend checked to see if his mailbox is full? Have him delete some mail with the envelope symbol.
Hi Angrod,
It might be important to tell more bout which aspect of game development you are interested in. Is it designing? programming? Q&A (testing), writing, support??
Yeah, I’m with Mercury. These are all VERY different careers with very different sorts of requirements. If someone from Q&A answers you, those would be very different than the answers a programmer might give. Heck, there’s a big difference (my artist friends tell me) between environment artists and concept artists. It would probably be helpful to narrow your field a bit. Although, if someone answers you here it would probably be support.
It’s like if you went to a hospital, there’s a big difference between a surgeon, a nurse, an X-ray tech, the person at the front desk, and the guy in the cafeteria!
Suspension Policies-- Variance Treatment

Posted by: bluestocking.6148
You’re only supposed to get the 72 hour suspension if you’ve already had a name violation, so if you have not previously had this issue you’re right to submit a ticket. You are supposed to be able to log back in the first time immediately after renaming the offending character – and you should get a notice on the character in question saying it needs to be renamed when you try to log in with it.
Wow that was an awkward sentence, I need more coffee.
Most people suspended for an inappropriate name know exactly why. There have occasionally been names blocked in error, or names that were genuinely confusing. If you really don’t know, support can help you.
You’d have to buy another copy of the game to create a second account. That’s how it works.
But there should be no restriction on which region you play in with a second, purchased account.
I have to ask how he got access to the account? Did you leave GW2 running and not lock the computer? Win button + L is your best friend in an insecure environment.
Unless their on a mac.
And a little brother should count as a third party, they are not anet, they are not the account holder they are a third party that accessed the account with out permission.
The problem with this is there would be a flood of “little brothers” deleting characters, items, gold and so forth. There is no way to prove that the account holder didn’t do it themselves. From following this forum for a bit it seems there are a lot of mean little brothers, little sisters, cousins, roommates, and mailmen that love deleting people’s GW2 stuff.
This is true, although their is also no way to proof it didn’t happen as stated. Good customer and business practice would be to have them help the customer. Anet gains a lot by offering good service, although can loose a lot by not offering a good level of service. From the player no long playing and taking friends with them. Or worse continuing to play and not do any micro transactions with the company.
Which would likely lead to the following:
- player deletes all characters for a free server transfer
- player claims little brother/sister/cousin/gerbil deleted them and gets characters back
- no one ever pays for a server transfer again.
