Homophone is a word that is even taught in the american education system.
You’re using google… of course google will change my name to a “homophone” cause google’s search algorithms will search up the most popular topic. Since my name is so close to “kittened” google will automatically say did you mean “kittened”
Homophone: A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning, and may differ in spelling.
So what is the different meaning of yours, exactly? Have you a link to the dictionary definition? I doubt it, because as people have pointed out, it’s not a real word but a common misspelling of a word. That’s not a homophone.
Also I’ve taught in America for over 10 years. If you meant to say that we do not teach homophones here, you are mistaken.
Per current policy, they will only change your display name if it is a) offensive, or b) contains your real, full name and is thus a security issue. There are no plans to offer at-will changes.
Yup, JT is right on the money. I have done this very thing and my giftee has had no problems.
Guild Wars 2 Account Will Be Shut Down Inform

It doesn’t take you to the real ArenaNet site. It takes you to a site that’s been made to LOOK like it. After all, no one would enter their account information if the site looked like it was made on Geocities in 1996!
Similarly, the email address will be “spoofed” to look like it’s coming from a legitimate account. You can see where it’s really coming from if you open up your full email headers.
You also might want to consider submitting a support ticket and changing to an all-new email address for your account, since they have that information as well.

As a player id rather see anet resources focused on developing content and responding to other valuable threads; than spending valuable time focused on this multiboxing issue.
Developers and admins do not do the same job.

This is my favorite thread.
Also if you have other character names that use the same word(s), you should open a support ticket and request a change for that reason. They only give the name changes after your name was reported and reviewed, so any other characters that use it could still trigger the suspensions.
TWO characters with a forced name change

Anet does not monitor names of already generated characters, so any request to change an existing character name is almost surely due to someone reporting the name in game.
I think that DOES constitute someone, “being offended”, by it. (Or just being vindictive toward the particular player if the name is “potentially” offensive).
Well, it is possible that an employee was playing and saw something that violated the naming rules as well. They don’t always have their ANet tag on.
If im not mistaken poof can be considered an offensive term for homosexual individuals.
spelling may be different
But then they would have changed the TAG, and not the actual name. The tag is the same.
Ah! I see, I couldn’t seem to find the stream in question so I thought he was gifting items out of his personal stash.
I might be confused, but I don’t think Blu42 is an employee of ArenaNet. I don’t see how they’d be able to help you with this.
Is there a way to free up a used ingame name?

I’ve copy-pasted a name using accents, but I’m not sure if that will still work. I seem to recall someone else trying it without success.
Also I don’t think spamming the forum with random comments is a really good way to demonstrate that you’re going to behave yourself from now on.
And while $1000 might be a lot to you, I assure you, as game customers go you’re not even in the top 100.

Interesting, it’s very similar reasoning that has been used in the past for allowing racism, disregard minority groups, remove or disallow rights for LGBT groups, etc.
The major difference being that a person who is a minority or gay cannot alter that fact, while no one is forcing you to advertise in LFG. You could, theoretically, simply … not do it.
Misusing a game system does not make you a persecuted minority, I’m afraid. You’ll need to address harassment claims through support channels. Your suggestion for the improvement of the Block function has, as I said, already been addressed when LFG was first introduced.
Solution: Certain actions should be disallowed if either user has the other on Block
1. Prevent joining groups via LFG if someone in the group has you blocked
2. Prevent merging groups via LFG if someone in either group has a block in place
From what I understand when this issue has been brought up before, this is just not possible because the contacts system doesn’t communicate with the LFG system, and it would break other systems were they to link them.
I grant you this is a very condensed synopsis of the issue.
Regardless, this is not actually an account issue and probably belongs in the general discussion forum.
Ps. about my Language…i m not in any guild, i usually play from work alone and i don t use chat…especially last week when farmed
So first of all, everyone says this. Secondly, I see you’ve made a number of forum posts about PvP. I find it unlikely that you PvP regularly and never use chat. I’ve noticed rather a lot of people have difficulty restraining their chat in PvP.
You want a “fair investigation” on a thread where you lied about the reason for your suspension. Oookay.
“Unacceptable behavior” doesn’t usually mean farming. It usually means your language and behavior were unacceptable to someone, it was reported, and when a GM reviewed it they agreed. I am willing to bet you know perfectly well what you said or did, but were hoping to get away with it because reasons.
Your friend should submit a ticket to support with as much information as possible. I’m assuming they’ve already sent reports in-game, so you will just want to note in the ticket that this is a pattern of harassment. They should be able to look through the history.
I’ve had exactly the same thing happen in a different game; the person used some mutual friends on Facebook to get details and make characters with personal information as the names.
I got the same thing trying to log on. The thing is, this is the 3rd time I’ve been report abused by players in pvp. It seems fairly easy to receive a ban as long as five or more people report you, regardless of whether it in fact was a reportable incident. While yours may only be 72 hours, I’m probably looking at 400+ just because a group of players decided that it would cool to report me for little to no reason. I’m not saying I’m innocent every single time (I guess repeatedly saying I am one of the best pvp rangers counts as an insult?) but it doesn’t make sense that I’m called a “f***ing f**got” then I am the same one to get a ban.
Your suspension was well deserved. If you’d like to know more please submit a support ticket and we’d be thrilled to discuss it with you.
Kind of wondering about his display name, myself.
I think I’d have made the opposite assumption about your gender from that name.
If you need to change a character’s name, you can buy a Name Change contract from the gem store, or you might find them in Black Lion Chests. I think I’ve pulled two or three out of chests.
……. Glad you found your minis. Of anything I would most hate to lose, that would be it for me.
You haven’t tried using your mini’s in the explorable areas yet, have you?
Any chance you could find out if the mini’s not being seen in explorable areas in a bug that will be fixed or if that’s the way the new system is supposed to work. Silence in the other threads about this. And seeing as there’s new mini’s for sale in the gem shop, I’d hate to drop money on gems to buy them if I can’t see them 90% of the time. Thanks.
As I understand it, there’s a system that limits the number of minis that will appear in a map. From Reddit:
There’s an auto-throttle system built into the wardrobe miniatures system that will kick in on public maps, under certain server conditions. We did this because we anticipate that the use of miniatures might skyrocket after this patch. The system is a little zealous at the moment, and we’ll dial it back as we become more comfortable with its impact on the servers.
You can purchase GW2 as a gift by buying the digital copy online. When you get the confirmation email with the serial code, do not make an account. Simply forward the email to your friend. The person who registers the account will be the owner.
I gifted an account to my sister at launch and she has had no problems with her account.
My daughter’s middle name is Isis.
The goddess was around long before the acronym, I would hope people realize that!

Question: have you been submitting the ticket through the account in question, or through the Kaida account? It wasn’t clear and I’m wondering if they’re confused by the account name attached to the ticket.
In any case, I’m sure Gaile will look into it since you’ve posted in the proper thread.
Sorry man, you’ll just have to wait. There’s nothing they can do about it; it’s coded into the game. They can’t even waive the new account restriction for employees.
I used copy-paste once to make a name using an accent. I literally just copied it off an Irish names website and pasted it in the box. Might still work?
Personally, I’d like “skimpy” pieces for my Charr. After all, I spent several hours on character creation to choose the fur color/stripes/spots only to be covered entirely by the armor. I found one top that shows off the chest and back, now to find something to show off the legs……..
I had the same problem with my Norn ranger. I gave her all those neat tattoos and then 99% of her armor is trenchcoats with long sleeves.
It’s not all that odd if you think about it. ArenaNet is only interested in making money. Giving people a 2 week limitation forces people to buy, Buy, BUY! If they made it unlimited, yet kept the rarity the same, some people would still rush in to purchase keys – but nowhere near as many that will because its “2 weeks only”.
Oh no. A business wants to make money to pay their employees and keep the game actually running. How dreadful.
Yes, “illusion” is currently not allowed. There’s no official word on why. “Grenth” might be a problem as well, but I have seen several other people mention the “illusion” issue.
What’s the quest name of your story? Even if you join one order, you sometimes have to meet with other orders. They all show up again eventually anyway.
Actually I don’t know if that one is phishing, since the only link appears to be for verifying the IP. But it does mean that someone has your account credentials and attempted to log in, at least. So you should absolutely change your password and email Customer Service to change your email address.
fair enough but it makes no logical sense why someone would delete all of their characters and then try to get them back if they got sick of them for one and second off restoring my characters gives me no gain or edge in any way shape or form. It just puts me back to where I left off from when I had to take a break from the game as if nothing did happen to my account while I was taking a break.
So let’s say, for example, I have 5 characters with rare items. A couple un-soulbound legendaries in my bags, perhaps. I sell those off. I transfer my gold to a guild bank or another account. I delete my characters. Then I email CS and claim I was hacked and can I have a rollback, please?
Boom, now I have 5 characters with legendaries all over again. Lather, rinse, repeat. And that’s why they need to see that your account was accessed by someone else.
(edited by bluestocking.6148)
They literally cannot change it. Even devs with a new account cannot send gold in quantity (as I have been told by one, directly). It’s built into the game.
I’m sorry, but you’ll just have to wait a few weeks.
Purchasing a second game/account for my wife
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: bluestocking.6148
They’re not going to punish you for sharing the account with your wife. They just won’t help you, if your wife (or kids, more likely) did something negative to your account. Like AP said, they can’t tell if you deleted all your level 80’s and now want them back, or if your wife did it in a fit of anger. Or vice versa. So they make the one-person-per-account rule (although I think there’s a clause that allows you to share with a minor child so you can supervise gameplay, but that might be WoW.)
Obviously, if someone’s significant other uses the account access to sabotage an account, that couple has deeper problems than the game. The rule is a CYA to prevent people claiming account sabotage in order to exploit the system. After all, if you share the account with your wife and never have a problem, how would they ever know about it?
If you report it yourself, it shows you’re aware of your mistake. If someone else reports it, it shows that you were hoping to get away with it. You gambled and lost.
Not all TV show characters are appropriate. The TV has one set of rules and ArenaNet has another. There’s no clause in there that says “but you can totally use forbidden words if they’re on South Park.”
The three-letter word at the end of your original name is not allowed. That’s all there is to it. Arguing about it here won’t help.
I roll around on a longbow ranger 90% of the time and no one seems to have a problem with it. Then again, I’m not a dungeon speed run kind of gal. I play what I want to play, and if the community has “decided” that my playstyle is “bad” for certain content, I don’t bother overly much with that content.
My first GW character was a smiting monk. That didn’t go over real well the first time I joined a group and they discovered I had no heals on. So I stuck to group content with my friends and refused invitations otherwise. I’m a “support class” in real life, I don’t want to do it in my games.
I’m getting the feeling that whatever this name is, “scrub” isn’t going to be the issue with it. I’m wondering what he’s planning to combine it with.
Yes please post a copy of that email, with links redacted! It sounds like a new one and Gaile will want to see it.
Maybe we should introduce him to this lady: http://www.swedishgirlseeking.com/
I do hope you searched that site out after reading this post and not the other way round aha
I actually found it just last week linked from something else. So it immediately sprang to mind. I’m a sucker for bad dating stories/profiles/etc. Probably because I’ve been married like forever so I can laugh at it now.
Maybe we should introduce him to this lady: http://www.swedishgirlseeking.com/
Yeah, what Inc says. Other people have been having trouble with “Illusion”. It seems to be a recent development as other people have made names using it in the past.
I often type out the filter-replacement word in games. The chat filter permutations amuse me. If I really need to make my point I can use another word or phrase, like Mithran’s “dolyak manure”.
Heck, I even use filter words in real life sometimes. I used to play a pirate-themed game that replaced the f-word with “scupper”. In real life “scupper” sounds just as dirty to me now when I say it.
Apologies for the crappy screenshot, I was distracted. Also this is not me, just an awesome guy I ran into one day.
I’ve been infracted completely by accident before. A moderator either misread my post or clicked me instead of someone else. An email cleared it right up. But you won’t know unless you ask!
Because, “Adults don’t play video games”.
Well who do you think makes them?.
Oh my god, are you me? I say this all the time!
