Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
Ranks do not equate to a better player just wanted to get that out there
Yes they do. Try pitting a team of r50s against a team of r10s and tell me how it goes. It’s a myth that ranks don’t mean anything. I would any day prefer to have higher ranks in my team compared to lower ranks. Anyone who has PvP’d for a decent amount of time will tell you the same thing.
That quote would have merit before the skyhammer farm. But I’ve seen horrible r50’s and 60’s. Truly horrible, you could see hotjoin all over it.
^ They don’t force you.
Just wait till the reward track you want comes up.
Hotjoin is a place to understand the basics of sPvP and fun matches, but Team Arena/ Solo Queue should be the goal.
Except you don’t learn the basics of sPvP there. You see the maps but don’t get to understand them. There are people swapping sides, dropping out, and thus you don’t get a decent understanding how competitive pvp can be. Etc.
You learn your build, a little, that’s all.
omg more people will play a game mode that is underpopulated and needs as big a population as possible to work.
Except, in the current version, there will be lots and lots going to hotjoin. Which is completely destructive to the “competitive” infrastructure that exists today in pvp.
You can unlock all if you play story mode.
Or you can progress it every time it comes back on the biweekly schedule.
When they come, they should be WILLING to go Tpvp. Now they can just stay in hotjoin.

Delete hotjoin while at it. Or atleast stop rewarding it.
There was (pvp) next to the rune. Might very well be pvp only.
Yep, only major problem I have with these changes is ‘hotjoin’.
K, they killed ranks but those were useless for a while now (guess how that happened? Hotjoin…).
We got MMR, we can handle the influx of players if it works correctly. Now lots of those will be going hotjoin, learning how to be a bad player (thats what it does) and not help the competitiveness that pvp needs (more population).
Ranks are death for a while and this will be the nail in the coffin.
They hinted at ladders/leagues and with the addition of reward tracks I have hope that they can get that right. Prestige, exclusive to pvp and tied into skill.
Well.. good or bad. Doesn’t matter.
They, for the first time (ever?), listened and responded QUICKLY through actions (not words).
Oh god, it’s gonna be frustrating playing against people with dragon who have farmed it in hotjoin.
Hotjoin has caused soo many problems in gw2.
It destroyed ranks and the bit of ‘prestige’ it had.
It destroyed queues quite a bit too, because if you can farm it in hotjoin why bother queuing?
It destroyed people skill and understanding of the game. This gets fixed after playing a soloq/teamq a while, but still….. Solid foundation? Throw out hotjoin.
You can now monetize pvp-players in enough ways with the newest additions (april15th), please let hotjoin go.
As for prestige… I hope you get your league/ladder thing right. The tracks as of now are a great addition, and the ways to add prestige/exclusivity in pvp are pretty obvious with these tracks and talk of ladders.
so… all those hotjoin farmers will get dragon?
I’ve asked it in another thread. But I’ll try again. Will there be a retroactive reward(rank points and the like) for pure T(ournament)players?
Anyway… Theres nothing ‘prestigious’ left in the pvp-side of gw2. The ultimate casual-friendly game.
Btw will this be progressable through hotjoin too?
Please…. say no
Few questions. Are competitive players (those who got most of their rank points from Tpvp) ever gonna be rewarded retroactively?
Are we gonna get specific gear (not only backpacks) and weapons (legendaries?) tied to Pvp? I like the unification but I’d still like to be able to show, through my looks, that I’m a pvp-player.
And why the choice of gold and skillpoints? Is it to allow pve-players to transition into pvp more easily? I don’t mind the gold and skillpoint requirement if the cost is low or the rewards are higher.
Anyway, it’s a change. I’m already thrilled by just that.
One of the best competitive (not e-sport) infrastructures in a MMO.
You’re complaining that we’re complaining. If you don’t understand us, then you haven’t really followed the scene. What I do agree with, that people should keep it civil. Even though that’s very hard at times. Why? Potential – prerelease hype.
We need a seperate pvp currency for unlocking this, just like in gw1. We can use gold for a lot of other things.
Put it in HA together with 10 different maps with different strategy, etc.
Edit: Meant to say HA.
They always say they don’t want to do whack-a-mole balancing. Instead they ‘shave’. Sorry, but shaving once in every few months isn’t pretty.
You changed the company to be able to push biweekly updates. You can restructure it so we can have balance ‘shaving’ every month. We’re treated as testers anyway, so I don’t see why you can’t throw us some balance changes every month.
Why bother balancing if you plan on adding 40 new traits, new runes and sigils and whatever else they have in store?
They are fixing the problems, by changing the entire thing. Problem is that this way there’s a high chance of creating other problems.
Anyway, I welcome change.
The game needs a competitive infrastructure all around. This doesn’t mean e-sport-focussed, but a good competitive infrastructure able to scale towards e-sport.
A big hinderance to that is the entire hotjoin/custom arena’s system. But after 1.5 years I have no hopes that this would be removed and if removed, it would cause a massive outburst because there’s people that have grown accustomed to it.
Adding a TDM map is great. Putting it in custom arena’s, not so great. Terrible.
Why werent you kittening about the pvp tournament by Anet in the summer? They gave a lot more than a legendary there.
the only problem is that it’s in hotjoin. I hate that place.
And what about the more casual players? I’ve put about 1000 hours in pvp without much of a reward.
supposedly the upcoming reward system will rectify this.
Hopefully. I assume those changes aren’t coming in the feature pack?
Pretty worthless as it’s placed in custom arena’s.
Why try and balance it when you’re about to change the entire game with the runes, sigils and GM changes.
GW1 had the possibility to buy skill packs, etc. I don’t see the problem with it.
And what about the more casual players? I’ve put about 1000 hours in pvp without much of a reward.
Just use gw1 system. I was a purely pvp player back then and I liked the unlock system.
^we’ll be all testing it in a few weeks.
Yes and dealing with the pain inflicted by it for months.
Well, you rather have no change? Competitive pvp is pretty much death atm, so doesn’t really matter how they release their changes.
art of combat —> more clear animations, clearer combo-fields?
and completely kitten pvp players?
^we’ll be all testing it in a few weeks.
It is cool now because of the prestige associated with it, but I think Anet could’ve done a better job on that finisher. It is less elaborate and less detailed than most of the other rank finishers.
Prestige? Don’t think so.
You shouldnt care about winning/losing a hotjoin game. Compare it like a pubgame in a shooter. They try to balance the teams.
Now I’d hope we get an epic season 2 where we invade new areas, slow and steady. With lots of smaller stories and eventually leading up to the dragon.
High: The hype.
Low: Reality.
Deso main every single time I’ve been there.
Because people are mindless. There’s enough to do with small groups or solo.
Another one bites the dust.
The game creates new overflows when one is full. This is bound to happen lol.
Make it a game-wide instance and not just tied to the servers that are playing each other that week and then it’s a good addition.
Bad.move.Anet.GG
Downed state is one of the few things that adds a little bit of a skill layer to this game, except for some insta-rez skills.
Should have launched without hype.
Hype killed gw2 pvp. If they wouldn’t have hyped it so much and steadily built on it. Things would have been much better even without any additional development.
Proud to be Deso.
The game needs more than just a few adjustments.
