Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
Doesn’t necessarily mean that the actual idea that has been guessed will actually please the majority of the playerbase.
I totally support this idea.
Off-topic: I’d like a dark, jungle-eske area. I remember such an area in SWG, the one with the rancors. Some fond memories.
It’s in the Edge of the mists client. They plan on releasing that later on in 2014. Might be that they really tought this would be a good april fools joke? Liked SAB better in that case.
I’ve been playing GW since the first year of GW1. Never had any problems. But if this is a gemstore item or even for gold or whatever… I’m kinda shocked.
So it is confirmed that this map will just have 3 groups (colors) filled with people from all the servers in EU and the same in NA?
A new area and new race. This way they can claim that they really do give an expansion for free (as those are the most common ‘features)’.
Loving dem new weapon skins. <3
They tried spirit watch. It failed.
They tried skyhammer. It failed even worse.
(Fail = Going by player feedback of the map)
I’m afraid of them releasing new game modes. Will be fun times on the forums again.
New gamemodes? We’ll still have the skill-less gameplay that GW2 actually is. The balance between skill ceiling/skill floor, both from an individual perspective as from a team point of view is completely kittened. This is, combined with the lack of a competitive, rewarding infrastructure and maybe the lack of some more gamemodes, the reason why gw2 pvp, imo, is a failure.
And I don’t think any balancing will make it better. Balance is an ongoing process in every game. Perfect balance is an illusion. Skill-based gameplay, infrastructure, gamemodes and the like are ‘one-time investment’ features and should always be priority. The most difficult one is skill-based gameplay, good luck on achieving that this far in the games life cycle and with the desire to satisfy both WvW and PVE.
It is frustrating because you can’t carry. Atleast not ‘hard’ enough.
In Cs or Starcraft, and lots of other games theres a low skill floor and a very high skill ceiling. This allows for ‘carrying’. Ofcourse you try to strategize, but even in those games (in the lower ranks) it’s not always that easy and sometimes you get teamed up with lower skilled players. Difference there is that you can still carry.
In gw2 you’re pretty much screwed if you got ‘baddies’ (bad as in map/gameplay tactic – with the right build you’re pretty much set already -.-). A wrong team comp is enough to have lost before it even started.
Passive gameplay ruins the competitiveness. Fixing it requires an entire overhaul (not just some balancing and tweaking of numbers).
We still need lots of features that have been requested…like… pre-launch?
Well maybe they have something like that in store for us. They got a few new maps and gametypes in the works so they might put those in another format. Maybe. Maybe not.
it would have been good if they launched like this. But now it’s too late.
Responding to this thread with thinly veiled ‘bump’ posts is not doing your cause any good. We don’t make decisions based on how often someone bumps a thread.
We’ve responded with our current take on the matter – if something changes, we’ll let you know.
In the meantime, feel free to provide constructive and thoughtful comments.
I’ll step on Dojo’s comment in response to yours.
For the past 3 pages, totaling well over 100 comments/posts we (the “vocal minority”, as someone pointed out) discussed and lay out good number of reason why this is a good thing to do. All we got was a long version of “nope.avi”, with zero reasons as to ‘whats’ and ‘whys’.
Now, do I have to dig out my posts about your “listening to feedback” and “communication with the players”? What exactly discussion do you expect
after all the arguments in thread were cut down with a single “no”?Some food for though on your “communication with the players” PR: For any sort of communication to be, there is a need for something to communicate about.
As for the fellow players here, I’d suggest you guys drop by the ReadyUp Ep2 thread and ask about retroactive rewarding rank points there. As they cannot just ignore a frequently asked question. It will be a bad thing for they PR mentioned above.
I agree on everything savov said
Stop deleting my posts this aint a bump i just wanna let everyone that i agree
Post/thread deleting. Reminds me of the time around PAX tourny. That were some glorious times here on the forums lol.
Here was another, this time out of team queue:
The smart guy left before the match was over.
I never leave, no matter how bad the matchup; in fact, in a match already in progress, I’ll either join random or join the losing team
Funny thing is, last time I joined the losing team, it autobalanced me to the winning team almost as soon as I entered – and the score difference was significant! I just chuckled and shook my head. I tried lol
You’re talking ’bout hotjoin. Which is irrelevant to any form of competitive pvp in gw2.
I think Anet is very aware of the competition. Their release schedule for the next months is way more easy-going on them. It will be the finale of the story + a major batch of features right after.
Will they deliver? Who knows.
But I think they’ll release a big chunk of content early 2014.
So what should we do?
Use all our glory?
Salvage all our items (or only the duplicates?)
What about the powder and such? Keep it or make stuff with it?
Anything else?
Just wanna be sure that I’m not too quick with ‘destroying’ stuff.
I like the idea of progressing (skill-based, thus not crafting/buying/gemstore) the gear you already acquired. For example the flame legion armor set with blue flames instead of the usual color, etc.
I don’t know why it would be that hard? We all have the info on our pvp screen. How many tournaments won, etc.
It often feels like the gem store is hurting the sense of progression too.
While I understand it’s an important source of income, I do feel like it interferes with the progression stuff.
The balance between in-game acquired or through gemstore is way off. And while most of us don’t mind a hat or broom stick, and some other items it seems that the “item-creation” focus lies on the gemstore. This is all logical from a business point of view, but in the end you’ll look way more awesome as an avid gemstore user than an ordinary player. :p
Try and balance in-game only and gem-store only a bit, because it feels like the focus is on the gemstore. From a pvp point of view, those finishers are all nice and fun. But can’t have a few finishers that aren’t tied to the gemstore and apart from the rank-finishers?
I agree. It’s kinda silly not too.
Totally off-topic but it’s been bugging me: Where is Jonathan Sharp?
I’ve said it before but WvW is the ideal format for sandboxy elements. Give the players the tools. Edge of the mists will have destructible bridges, which is a good example of what I want. But we need more.
Why not more organisational tools (alliances, hierarchy, ranks, etc.). More destructible areas and more room to actually build stuff.
Quick question. Will the game ever see changes to the core gamesystems? Changing the way traits, sigils, etc. work?
Is the game ever gonna evolve from the passiveness it is now to the active/skill-based game we all want it to be?
Lets hope they can improve on it. The WvW would be so much more epic without the lag.
I’d say down-scaling, dodging and no trinity are the things you have to keep in mind.
They’re reworking every single skill for this problem. I’d say they’re working on it and give them some slack.
I do think it’s been a while since Anets servers got hammered this bad. Atleast on the WvW-side.
Even the npc’s, progress bars… Everything is suffering from the lag.
^ Lol. WvW is getting spoiled. Look at the pvp development please.
They’re fixing the queue system and bringing in an overflow map early next year. They’re working on it.
I like the pve elements if they have a meaning. Like the hyleks, etc.
Anyway, remember the real WvW will still be the maps we have now.
Destructible bridges? Yes, please. WvW needs more ‘sandboxy’ elements. It’s the perfect place for it.
Why should he?
Because there was some ‘balancing’ this patch?
There is still no competitive infrastructure and if they were to implement one it would still take ages to get people back. The community got smacked the past year, I wonder if it is possible to get it back. Ever.
By the time we have season 2 we’ll have the new overflow map.
WvW lacks tools for organisation. Yes, some topservers organise stuff on their forums/ts but I think WvW would benefit greatly if there were more tools available.
I’ve heard 200+. We had 200 in our TS channel on Deso. So might be around that. Probably higher.
Persistence —> Commanders stepping up and staying around organising till they get the kill
Communication —> As much as possible on Voice Comms.
If you’re Low Pop —> Advertising everywhere to get people to the zone so you have time to organise.
And then you’re set.
These forums need atleast server-specific forums. Would make it a bit easier to advertise and stuff.
A few possible steps:
- Get on your servers VoiP and get into the main instances channel.
- Ask for an invite in one of the parties. Then right-click and join ‘friend in instance’ (or whatever it says).
- Combine this with going to Mount Maelstrom and running through the portal to Sparkfly Fen while in a group with someone from the main instance.
Note:
You need time. There are still fails happening, but if you get on an organised server it should be a kill every 2 tries (depends on who’s commanding).
Try and get into the main instance when the event has just finished. This is your best chance. Then you just have to wait. But you’re time should be pretty filled with following instructions and the like. Just hang out in VoiP and have fun.
What this game needs is more “Organisation tools”. The LFG tool will be a good start. But they should expand on the commander stuff. The only problem with this fight is getting everyone organised. Atm it’s unthinkable doing it without TS.
Organisation tools will need to be implemented ingame if they plan on adding more and more challenging content. WvW needed these tools at release.
Every server can kill him. It requires coordination (thus VoiP) and patience (thus Time).
Every server that defeated him had to work a lot to get things sorted.
We had 200+ in teamspeak today on TS. It’s pretty insane…
Last kills we have 2min+ left. I think it’s fine.
You forgot to give props to Decimus Maxima.
Deso just killed him for third time. Got flawless defence and 2 min left.
I think 80 organised people can get him. And I mean 80 well-geared, PVT, all communicating.
Organise it outside of the game and outside sparkfly. And organise. Just going in without organisation won’t work.
Alright, Deso. Get your kitten on TS tomorrow for another try. <3
Turn of nameplates. Join the squad you need to be in. Much less clutter!
On Deso we went as far as checking every single person on TS and putting him on the DPS group. Splitting them up in parties and syncing builds, etc.
Will this still be necessary in a few days?
I’m not sure. Once you get to phase 2, DPS is your biggest friend. The more dmg you do when he is stunned, the sooner you get to the megalaserphase again. I think we managed to get 15%+ dmg in sometimes when he was stunned.
If they do that then they have to fix the animation of the waves first. Sometimes the knockdown comes first and the animation only a few seconds later.
