Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
But can’t you tie it in with WvW. So that you also mean something for your server? Are there pure GvG guilds?
GvG has come out of the fact that WvW encourages zerg v zerg and there’s no room for small skirmishes. Well, I’d say make room for that but in WvW.
^ Balance team is a different team than the Pvp team. As stated by one of the devs.
If you realise that, you know that Pvp team lacks resources.
And even worse, Pvp needs a one-time solid implementation of a good scalable infrastructure then it just needs support. We don’t need 4 living world teams to provide us of content. We need a one time full investment in Pvp to get things right.
But no…..
What will accomplish something? Nothing, it’s in Anets hands unfortunately. But we’ve grown upon this game and thus we QQ.
^ And it would fail. You can basically put up 10 v 10’s in a custum arena and just fight on beach on nifhel. But nobody does that.
The only way this kind of GvG would work is, if it’s tied in with WvW.
I’ll say it again. But thinking that 20v20 deathmatch as a standalone gamemode would work, is wishful thinking. I can’t even start to explain this, it’s too obvious. :/
However, there’s room for this as is obvious by the player initiatives and the WvW crowd. But it would only work in WvW and when it is tied in with that. Now lots of the ‘real’ WvW’ers don’t want those GvG’ers to take up a spot in the player limit, thus you need to work around that.
Guilds wanted to be a part of the WvW game since the beginning of the game. Why don’t just ty in GvG in WvW? Let guilds claim a tower/keep and let them upgrade it/defend it to unlock a GvG mode. Or something like that. :p
So basically… they should drop the forums all together ’cus they know the problems.
That’s why we have been satisfied by all those previous implemented features?
They give us attention? That answer from Jon was satisfying?

Well it wasn’t even about his leave. That ‘leave’ part was a very small note.
I’m just afraid they’ll shift focus from a (wannabe) competitive Pvp to a wanted feature as GvG (WvW definition).
I’m afraid, they’ll listen and implement that. Not because I’d be jealous or something, but I honestly don’t see it work. The charm now is the fact that it’s player run, inside WvW, by WvW-centric guilds. But if they’d pull it out of WvW, make it a stand-alone format, maybe even try to make it competitive and just a plain old deathmatch…. Then I’d think it would fail pretty soon.
There is not one single game that aims for that kind of numbers nor a plain deathmatch. And with good reason. It just isn’t feasible.
However, if they keep it in WvW and make it still connected with WvW as a whole with a little competitive touch then it might work.
But Pve is a much broader concept. It’s more difficult to appease the different appetites.
Pvp is pretty ‘simple’. You make a scalable infrastructure where you allow fun for all skill/participation levels and allow competitiveness.
I would just caution you guys to not be overwhelmingly negative. Find and point out good things along with the bad because there are just as many good things, and it reflects poorly on everyone from the players to the developers to the publisher if the entire show is negative.
Negative opinions expressed so publicly can also be toxic because everyone here will parrot what you guys say there. It also potentially puts people off who don’t often participate in GW2’s PvP.
I know, there are a lot of things that can be better, just don’t get too negative.
They just have to be constructive. If you say negative things in a constructive way, all is good. The point of this, is avoiding the censorship. If they’re not constructive, then that shows unadulted behavoir and then that’s sad on their part.
Though being constructive and coming over as constructive are different things and finding the right balance isn’t always that easy. Best example is Helseth, he’s a constructive guy, but sometimes it doesn’t come over as constructive (If you don’t know him atleast).
Yes, that’s the Gvg we know from Gw1. In WvW Gvg has become a massive number deathmatch.
Butch you keep saying 20v20 but thats is the least common GvG. The majority of GvG is 5v5 by the windmill with alot of 10v10. Dont go based of GW2GvG.com matches that is is an very low sample size of the GvGs going on.
I also dislike 20v20 however there is a method and tactics in that play mode, more so then conquest I can tell you that. 15v15 is my cutoff for GvGs, 10v10 is the sweet spot where combos and blast finishers really help however there are other tactics that work just as well.
Alright, then I was wrong. I keep seeing in the Gvg website and the WvW forums numbers going from 15 v 15 to 30 v 30. But still, you just want a deathmatch basically?
I don’t have problems with it if it stays in WvW and WvW related. It should be a casual pvp thing catered to the mass-guilds in WvW.
But they shouldn’t try and make it competitive or what not. I mean, they can’t be that stupid, right? Is there any competitive game out there, that uses a 15 v 15 format? Let alone a pure deathmatch format?
Like I said, it should be a small side feature for those who want it tied in with WvW. Nothing more, nothing less.
Oh boy… please no.
I’ve been dreading the day, the WvW GvG community would come into our pvp forums.
They should just give you guys a giant circle that only the two teams get into. Nothing more.
Yes, It was me posting this.
It’s a german article, put paragraph 2 (end of it) in google translate and you get this: “Furthermore, we learned in the interview that guild battles like in Guild Wars 1 is not expected in the near future. However, a development team was tasked with and as soon as their work is bearing fruit, even guild battles will again be part of Guild Wars 2nd.”
It doesn’t mean much, but still. The fact they cater to that. A 20 v 20 deathmatch mess which is/looks fun because it’s rare and takes part in WvW… Oh boy…
Again, Anet… Look at your metrics. Pve population on the rise, WvW on the rise. But pvp will be back in a downfall. Build towards the potential, which is clearly here. I don’t know what more we can say.
Well. I’d like them to implement Gvg like you guys want it. In arenas outside of Wvw, with a requirement of 20 versus 20. Plain deathmatch.
It would be the biggest fail ever. It only works now because it’s in WvW and it’s rare.
Well, you’re in luck. According to a german article Anet has listened to the majority and made a taskforce to implement Gvg.
I’d be happy with this if they based this on GW1 format, but it’ll be as you, WvW’ers, see it. A 20 v 20 zergfest probably.
Replace it by:
- Unranked queue
- Ranked soloqueue
- Ranked teamqueue
Atleast people will learn how pvp is actually played in conquest gw2. And people will easier go from unranked to ranked. Anyway, this all ties in with rewards too.
They should just delete hotjoin.
I’d gladly take over the league system for PVP. We would have no issues taking it over from you guys…
But hey, we’re just an aftertought.
And so much more…
Pvp just came of as a joke/side project. No pvp dev on the panel, colin’s dodge about the one ‘decent’ pvp question after a very awkward moment on the dev panel (They’d never expect a pvp question? o.O), no announcement for pvp or atleast an insight in the future, casters laughing with their own game, etc. We literally got nothing. Even more it seemed like a slap in the face of the community.
But hey, they can show the world that they had a 10k tournament.
You’re playing the wrong mode. Go tournaments.
I’d like some overarcing loyalty achievements/titles/rewards though too that show how loyal you’ve really been to your server.
About 1500 people disagreed and left the stream. And even it seemed ‘professional’ I wouldn’t want to bring in new players in the current state of the game.
This would have worked at launch, when the game had a healthy pool of players. It’s too late today. The leagues would be way too small.
Maybe. But look at what happened when catering to the current population. It doesn’t work. You want a infrastructure that scales.
That’s why I’d say they should go for leagues/seasons anyway. A decent competitive infrastructure that allows fun on casual level and competitiveness on top level would be the way to go.
Aim for the potential, build for the potential. If they keep making features (Looking at that first implementation of teamqueue) it’ll stay kitten.
Being outmanned gives double points on that map or something like that.
Why don’t you implement an over-arcing loyalty achievement/reward structure.
Add achievements/titles, etc. for being loyal to your server. After two seasons you get a certain title, etc.
If it hadn’t the potential so many players saw in GW2 then we wouldn’t be here, 1 year later, QQ’ing on the forums while basicly knowing the answer (based on the previous year).
^But TC won….?
Spvp :
People want more game modes. Anet refuses because it will split up the already small pvp population. A large reason there is a small pvp population is because there’s only 1 game mode, more twisted logic.
I also forsee Anet’s logic dooming spvp soon : “People didn’t like our esport event (because the game isn’t ready for esport yet), I guess we’ll just give up on Spvp completely”. Instead of fixing the problem, I fear they will instead just give up on it.
The game needs to be fun and varied for everyone (including casual pvp’ers) first before you stuff it into the esports hole.
As a business, to increase your revenue you should invest in potential. For lots of businesses, this potential equals a risk because it’s innovative and you’re unsure if its going to work. Anet doesn’t even invest in Pvp, while it’s proven to have a great potential, and not so much a risk if you look at amount of pvp’ers in the beginning of the game.
Gw2 pvp has been a sad story.
I don’t want new gamemodes, I want the competitive infrastructure that was promised.
The tourny looks solid. To bad the community is pretty much bummed completely about the current and future state of pvp.
Yes, but sorry. I’m normally a really nice guy lol, but even just from a business standpoint this is so messed up. You invest in potential if you want a greater reward, but apparently Anet is to scared even though they should be pretty confident that people want it. Just look at how badly we all want it.
Atleast Sync and CC get a nice goodbye gift.
We’ve seen WvW suffer for a year straight at the expense of sPvP monopolizing all of the dev’s attention. So I’m not really shedding any tears for the more fanatical sPvP community. But at the same time, it’s a shame they’ve chosen to focus on a single game mode for a year now as well.
I understand their comment about not wanting to have empty games because people don’t like certain modes… but a CTF style map is all but mandatory in this day and age and the fact that they’ve ignored it is mind boggling.
At this point in the game I was at least expecting a real CTF mode and a real GvG mode being made available by now. Now we learn these things aren’t even on their radar.
WTF… spvp getting attention? Maybe some balance changes that were more geared to pvp. But anything else?
So, all articles about pve and Wvw. Whole panel pve/Wvw. Confirmation of Gvg taskforce (a la Wvw Gvg). Awkwardly dodged Pvp question at panel.
GG, it’s been a good day for pvp.
Are there any CC fans here? Awkward silence. Everyone thinking who the kitten is that team/pvp… Pfffff
Anet will never be able to make a pvp game again. Luring in people with the big hype and not delivering at all. Not even with promises. We know rewards are coming. Well if thats not tied in with other stuff….
He was kinda funny though. :p But back to QQ: WHERES MA PVP!
I’ll keep playing just more casually. I’ve always been casual ’cus of RL stuff and such. But I always feel supportive on Gw pvp. Until this moment lol :p.
Anyway, WvW will be fun :p. Even unique finishers for WvW…. GJ
He asked can we expect more sPvp-wise referencing to GW1 pvp. Then very awkward moment on panel who should answer that because GUESS WHAT no pvp dev on the panel. Colin then dodged everything and gave the same answer like always.
Worst answer ever lol. Talking about gametypes while there is so much more needed. And that question about gamemodes is answered the same way like always.
Same. First time ever a decent question gets asked. :p
Just saw my hero on that panel ask a question about PVP.
Put this article in google translate. One part says they have GvG taskforce in place. If they add the Gvg, those Wvw’ers want (20v20 deathmatch)…… S p e e c h l e s s
Just look at the Pvp part. It shows…lack of intrest/motivation/plan/etc?
(edited by butch.8136)
And…do we have pvp seasons? o.O Since when?
From a Pvpgame GW1, which was succesful. To a so called esports MMO WITH NO kittenING SUPPORT AT ALL? My god, WvW is popular and they get more updates. K, obvious. Thats how you run a business. BUT PLEASE SEE THE POTENTIAL IN PVP. kitten
Edit: Just look at the paragraph about pvp. http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/08/31/pax-prime-2013-guild-wars-2-prepares-to-blow-your-mind-all-o/
I’m speechless.
