Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
And don’t let us change characters mid-match, please. I thought they fixed that but apparently it has been reverted…
I’d say LoL is much more complex and yet it’s the biggest esport.
Why doesn’t esports work in gw2? (my opinion)
General:
- B2P (Higher barrier than free2play)
- MMO (Less popular than moba’s) < MMO’s consist of pve/pvp(/wvw) and thus it divides the resources/focus of the dev team.
Specific:
- Lack of competitive infrastructure.
- Passive gameplay (< AI, RNG, etc.). Greatly reduces the skill cap. Lots of very low skill cap builds which are yet the most rewarding.
(- Pre-release hype —> release disappointment + Dev focus (Slow reactive balancing, lots of flawed system implementations who then require an overhaul, etc.)) This will make it hard to become an esport in the future. Hard to earn back that trust.
Viewership:
- Difficult to cast/difficult to watch. (< b/c of fast-paced combat system, conquest and visual clutter)
The pvp is not ready yet.
We need ladders/seasons at the least. Pvp = competitive. The game still lacks a competitive infrastructure. Imo, in combination with a replacement of hotjoin by unranked queue and the use of CA’s as training grounds/player-held tournies without ANY reward attached to it)
Build templates are a must too. You can’t imagine the effect pvx wiki (or w/e it was called) had on gw1.
There’s a lot more needed, but that’s not necessarily as important for new players.
^ Well…. the biggest problem in both sentences are ‘subject to change’. Doesn’t matter what they write if they say they’re gonna change it anyway. I understand why they did it, but the only way people will be happy is when they allow everyone to play.
Could use a bank/tp too.
There will be one. I’ve seen it on the stream.
I wonder where those commands are they talked about ages ago. I tought they pretty much confirmed that it was coming.
Skyhammer doesn’t even matter anymore, as the rank reward has been increased greatly and the rank point req. for each rank will be lowered. Dragons will be the new bambi.
Stop caring about it.
We need those ladders/seasons asap + pvp exclusive reward tracks that reward SKILL (or atleast not hotjoin/CA).
Take that WvW crap somewhere else. This is about the tournament and giving input.
So any update, Blu?
Dynamic scoring system based on the current population of the three servers on every BL and EB? Bit vague of a concept, but yeah..
Gameplay will stay the same. It’ll just be less rewarding, PPT-wise, for those with a greater population at that instant.
^ Yet it’s very difficult because there’s that hotjoin mentality. I’ve explained a lot that they shouldnt be capping with 2 or more yet they don’t listen.
Hotjoin, the curse of gw2 pvp.
^ True, I’m mostly a tpvp player and I’m only r42 with 980hours played. Havent played much with the boosted rank points. :/
Someone said it would take 360 hours with a 50% winrate to get from 1-80 after the 15th patch. -.-
Now if we just have the matchmaking system take into account classes all our problems will be solved…
They said they’ll eventually implement that.
Well sry guys ,i just feel like upset and duck up when i make this thread . I just click the play now button and it’s send me to skyhammer farm rooms like 3 in a row.Sry again guys ,I just feel sick with that rank farm,it’s ruin this game .
Why don’t you go to solo-queue or even teamq?
If the MMR would be more strict in an attempt to create a more balanced matchup, the queues would get even more excessive. At this point, we can’t judge the system as it only works properly with a decent population. Best solution would be a NA/EU merger for pvp to get a better experience all around, but that’ll never happen.
Banning the top pvp teams would be a PR disaster.
The problem is that they underestimated it and now, yet again, there’ll have to be some cleaning up to do.
They state there’ll be a 16team cap but at the same time they tell us that they’ll expand the cap. That’s very nice and all, but without criteria it’s just bound to get messy. In any case, the cat’s out of the bag. There will be rage unless you manage to let everyone participate.
As for viewing the tournament. Don’t stream every match, only start streaming from the quarter finals. People want to see competitive matchups, or atleast no cringe-worthy gameplay. That’s not elitism that’s just the way it is.
Anyway, lessons to be learned. I do hope Anet helps Blu & co out. Next time be a bit more precise and consequent.
But the main sucker punch was the one pvp mode since launch and pathetic pve content. Funny how it takes 2+ months for any serious update to the game. Other companies usually take less time to implement a patch than anet does with gw2.
The main sucker punch was the hype behind it, imo. If they didn’t hype it that much, then there would’ve been less rage. But then again, gw1 was very popular pvp-wise so most people expected no less of gw2.
I’m sorry to say this again, but all those problems that pop up with hotjoin, I’d rather see it removed.
Instead add a unranked queue for Tpvp. This way you can still test builds and whatnot but in a little bit more of a competitive setting. Meanwhile put every -r10 (or even 20) in those unranked queues before they’re able to join soloq/teamq.
I think this would be a valid change but Anet wants to keep those CA’s, I guess. And CA’s are great for organising pvp events but again it’s abusable too.
Quite a few times I pop in eotm and see that no1 has a tag:
Rent-a-commander tag.
Only a few per instance, and only for the duration of one eotm match. When you leave the map, you lose it. Make it cost badges, silver, etc.
Anet should step up and help ya.
But gw2 isn’t in the position to just chose who gets to play or not. Everyone who signs up should be able to play. In the future you can change this, but now it’s too late imo.
^Luck is ‘worth’ your time as it will affect the drops you get with the new reward track, unless you don’t care about that.
Animation + active gameplay. That’s what’s needed. That’s what would skyrocket the skill cap.
But that’ll never happen ‘cus it’s not newb-friendly….. -.-
Solution: Take out hotjoin. It’s a curse.
Eotm is a succes. It offers WvW gameplay while in queue for the real deal. That was their goal and they achieved it. They also use it as a way to test new stuff.
^cus everyone will be able to participate.
Too many modes is not good. They dropped team arena’s, hero battles, etc.
They should stick to gvg/HA but translated into Gw2.
114 teams… Don’t stream anything up until the quarter finals please.
No1 as it’s in custom arena’s.
Try once, try twice and if you don’t get any reaction by then.. Go yolo!
Kinda jealous of the state wherein China is launching.
This feature update is actually why I started playing GW2 again. Well, and I finally remembered my password, but that’s a whole other story. :P
As for content, I’m sure there will be more content soon.
Also, ZudetGambeous, ESO is terrible. It may have plenty of new content, but it’s a less-than-subpar experience.
WildStar and ESO are both P2P. Believe it or not, you can play both games if you want, without breaking the bank!
I play EVE and GW2, myself. I know, unimaginable is it not?Edit: Can’t believe Isn’t…. It is censored on this forum.
You may think that, but the plummeting GW2 population tells a different story.
Plummeting? Says who?
Ah right, the megaserver announcement means the game is dying?
If they pull off the megaserver and the algorithm placing people together.. wouldn’t it be a good change then?
I think many people are just afraid that it won’t work the way Anet describes it. And I believe it’ll be messy in the beginning, but the goal they’re trying to achieve is a solid one.
lol…it is funny…lol
WvW may as well not exist!
Well spvp which AFAIK is played by 10% of the number of players who play WvW, has been lavished with goodies…
I think Anet are confused about WvW and are at a loss with what to do with it or what direction to take it in.
About time that pvp got something, no?
And WvW didn’t get anything? Maybe not what you wanted, but it did get it’s share of updates.
Bring back the MATs-system.
They explained why in the blogpost. Go read it.
^ And we’ll get nice stuff the 15th. Why keep a horrid system?
Who cares about Hot Join?
Flash news – hotjoin players are majority of spvp population.
Which is sad. Because hotjoin doesn’t represent the possibilities of what gw2 pvp can be about.
- Don’t change a thing except rewarding the current people who are r55+ better. Not rewarding the r70’s for example is just………. awful
How? A title, few hundred of those bags, etc. Take your pick.
(- More retroactive rewards (some rank points would suffice) for people who played Tpvp, and not hotjoin/skyhammer farm would be nice too but won’t happen probably.)
- Get your kitten on those ladders/seasons. Tie in reward tracks. (titles, gear, even pets and whatever fluff you throw at us) Make sure top tier, mid tier, low tier get rewarded. Make those rewards EXCLUSIVE to the different tiers, and whatever. Yes, that means a mid tier won’t be able to look the same as the top tier player. Thats the way IT SHOULD BE! Skill gets rewarded this way. Finally. GG
- While you’re at it, throw away hotjoin.
I’m just asking you guys to be open to it. If this goes out and it didn’t work out as we had planned, then we are open to change too.
Off-topic, about balance:
I understand the fact that you guys are gonna wait, because it’s a fact that things will change after the patch.
But the phrase I quoted is important to a big chunk of the community. The problem is, given the history of Anet’s balancing in gw2, can we expect changes within 2 weeks-1month (acceptable to me, maybe not so for others) if things don’t work out?
Can we expect changes based on the community output on these pvp and balance forums? You guys say you focus on data and stats and whatnot, but you should focus more on our output (top tier players, mid tier, etc.) here on the forums even though it’s a minority.
Can we expect as part of this patch, “the renaissance”, a change to the way you guys balance? I like the shaving….
but you need to shave WAY. MORE. OFTEN.
‘Capturing bases’ adds team skill to pvp.
Downed state adds another skilllayer to pvp.
Skyhammer shouldn’t be in soloq, agreed.
the track rewards are a step in the right direction. I just hope they’ll focus on ladders/seasons and get more pvp exclusives in (not just back items).
^or every 2 weeks a dungeon reward track becomes available and you progress it in that time-span.
That’s also skewed by the entire hotjoin debacle.
Yes.
15chars
I think there’s a minority who isn’t happy with the overall changes. There are issues, like always. But overall, I’m happy.
The reward tracks are a good foundation.
Now they need to make gear/weapons exclusive to pvp and tied to skill.
Thus when we eventually get ladders/seasons they can add reward tracks tied into those.
And remove reward tracks from hotjoin.
^ the MMR suffers from the extreme lack of population. You still want those queues popping. So it is in such a bad state that you get r1 and r6’s.
They could put other filters in the MMR, to balance the classes in the teams, etc. but that would kill the queues. (atm)
^ I agree. But, in my opinion, the impact on Tpvp would be much much bigger if hotjoin didn’t get the same treatment (ye there’s a difference, but it’s extremely small).
You can pull ‘em in and atleast try. MMR is there to make sure the influx can be handled without ruining the experience for the different tiers of skilled players.
Now you just don’t bring in the same amount of people into the ‘real’ pvp (= Tpvp). And the transition from hotjoin to Tpvp, when so used to hotjoin, would be a rough one.
They need to stop treating hotjoin as an equal to Tpvp.
Oh god, it’s gonna be frustrating playing against people with dragon who have farmed it in hotjoin.
This is amusing given most of the people with dragon now have done it at least partially via hotjoin, not solely tournaments. Now it gives people who solely play tournaments a chance to get it w/o losing their social lives.
Its frustrating ‘cus I’m only R42 atm. And thats from 90% tournament games.
