Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
I’m a Deso player and was on the turrets for over 10 Tequatl attempts today. I do not know if this is the best way to use the turrets. But it’s a start.
Start with:
Get everyone on the turrets on TS. Atleast one of them needs to be able to communicate in TS. Group up with your other turreteers, this might leave one alone. So either you make two groups (East+West turret group) or just make sure he knows what to do and he is on TS.
How to ensure a turret spot?
Best way atm is join the main instance right after an attempt. Most of the time there’s room then. Make sure everyone on the turrets is atleast chatting and on TS (to listen).
How to make your life easier?
- Go to options. Disable nameplating. Join the DPS commander’s squad.
This will result in a clear overview and you’ll see the commander’s Tag in front of you.
The job of the DPS commander is being a reference point of stacking. So only drop your 3 to 5 skills on the tag.
Note: If the commander disconnects: Leave the squad of that commander and ask for another commander to tag up to lead the DPS group. Join that squad then. Otherwise you’ll won’t see any reference point to drop your skills.
- Disable auto-targetting. You’ll lose your target to much otherwise.
- Target the head of Tequatl. We weren’t sure if the DPS varies if you tag either the leg or the head. To avoid any risk, just target the Tequatl’s head.
Your job?
- Phase 1 (and every time he’s not stunned by the laser)
Use skill 2 on cooldown. This reduces the scales. If all 6 turreteers do this, the scale wall will never get up. To be sure you hit Tequatl with skill 2, always press T and then press 2. This is why it’s important to target Tequatl in the beginning of every phase.
So press T (make sure you have him targetted) + 2.
Use skill 3, 4 and 5 on the DPS commander tag. Only use it on that tag. If they mess up stacking, it’s their fault. That’s why it’s important to join that commander’s squad. This way it’s pretty easy to spot where to land the skills.
If you got poison on yourself, use 3 on yourself or call it our to your fellow turreteers. You’ll notice that you have poison, when you start getting huge hits and there’s a red circle around you. Sometimes there’s a red circle around you, but you take small hits these aren’t cleansable.
Use 1 which is the 2.5k dmg spell when you have everything else on cooldown.
- Phase 2 (Whenever he is stunned by the laser)
Use 4 first on the DPS commander. This will give ’em quickness. Then spam 1. The 1 attack will do 10K dmg then. Keep using 4 on cooldown (about 3 times).
Some more notes!
Do not leave your turret at any time. Never. It might get taken by someone who’s not coordinating.
Call out the scale amount when it gets above 15 just to put some pressure on your mates and to prepare the dps zerg that a scale wall might be incoming.
When you it gets destroyed, take a repair hammer asap, repair and hop back on.
If you do all of this, then a failed attempt won’t be your fault. It’s either the DPS group’s fault for not stacking or the defence groups for not defending correctly.
Remember: Eastern turrets need more defence than western.
Enjoy!
Well, I agree it’s annoying. I had people get a DC in our succesfull attempt who had been around the whole day already. But what can they do?
The fun is the organising part. Atleast for me that was. I intended to do one teq event today and then log off.
But I hopped on our servers TS and just stayed around. It’s fun organising and getting people work together. It’s frustrating at times, but you know that beforehand.
And the ultimate reward was finishing him off after about 10 tries. That feeling and vibe on TS. Insane.
Well make sure you’re in a group with people from the main instance. Normally there should be more room after an event. Then just stay around there and wait for the next event. Use that time to organise a bit, ‘cus it’s needed.
Did him 9 or 10 times today. Got one chest for defeating him and twice a little chest for getting him at 75% and 50%. Dunno if it’s bugged though. I tought we’d get a chest every 25% every time, no?
Desooooo! Watched the vids twice already. Keeps getting me pumped. Give ‘The Ghostly’ a medal for organising the DPS-part (and then getting DC’d at our succesfull attempt).
Just take ‘em after an event. And wait. It’s the best ‘solution’ atm.
Most fun I had in PVE-side of the game. Great fun. Made me play 10 hours+ straight lol.
Coordinate and win. Get 40 people organised and go to an overflow after it finished.
I think this boss is easy if organised well.
If they nerf this, it’ll be the ultimate stamp on gw2 “casual game”.
And it seems they’re working on KOTH and DM and a new conquest map. But might be not true.
Invest one time in a bunch of programmers and get the infrastructure solid. After that we don’t require bi-weekly updates.
I have this odd feeling that you’ve never done any programming work in your life.
Sry, if you took that so seriously. It’s more the thought behind it. And no, I’m not gonna explain myself. I’ve wasted enough effort.
The updates exclusive to PvE and PvP are hard to compare. Almost all PvP features require very intensive programmer and server support like solo queue, matchmaking, custom arenas, spectator mode, etc. Living story updates leverage existing technology to advance the story and expand content with new mobs, crafting recipes, dungeons, etc. PvP has few areas expandable by content; the main feature being maps which we release regularly. Balance updates affect all parts of the game and don’t come out for one any faster for one than the other.
Invest one time in a bunch of programmers and get the infrastructure solid. After that we don’t require bi-weekly updates.
The key is low skill floor and high skill ceiling. They tend to focus on one or do not try to make the space between the two bigger.

That’s what you get for all that whining. Sad.
^About that… To much contradicting visions.
They cater to casuals but also cater to esports while it’s possible to do both, in this case they clash.
Example: Skill ceiling/floor stays low because of casuals. I.e. The great suggestion for the AI heavy class which is Ranger to be able to micro their pets. No, they won’t do this because it makes the skill floor to high for new players. I mean…wtf? You want to dumb everything down just for new players, people can adjust faster then you think. Besides you should allow a high skill ceiling to allow different levels of skill which then translates in the league-system (we might get in a year or two). This way the casuals who can’t handle micro’ing their pet play against other who can’t. But atleast PLAYERS CAN STILL IMPROVE. Keyword = IMPROVE. This is so essential for any game, it’s a reward progression in itself.
Btw… A ranger couldn’t micro a pet (extra 4 or 5 skills)? Better delete Ele or atleast it’s attunements.
Another example of contradicting visions. We want to boost shoutcasting and obviously twitch viewership and the like. Because…esports!!
But you need a casual playerbase who gets intrested in these. And for that it needs to be ingame (because those people actually PLAY the game). Either that or make your competitive playerbase huge, but that only happens with an even bigger casual playerpool (obviously). And you can do both. Implement automated tournaments (daily/weekly/monthly) and host only those in the observer mode. The rest (player-run tournaments) can be hosted on twitch, while also shoutcasting the others. Because…. why not have both?
And about those automated tournaments. You said you want monthly consistency in this SOTG but it seemed like you’re going to partner with MLG/ESL, etc for these. This isn’t casual friendly again. But tournaments aren’t meant for casuals you might say? I used to play in the daily AT’s in GW1 a lot with my casual pvp guild. We played in without planning it, signing up beforehand, basicly whenever we wanted without a barrier of entry. That’s how you pull casuals into competitive pvp.
Another day in gw2, another mind boggled.
What does “We’re talking about it” mean? Colin last said that infrastructure like leagues/automated tournaments are far far away (like one year +) but in this SOTG they’re making it seem they’re working on some stuff like that. So, before you start the hype train again, give a time frame. Now, I know you guys don’t do that but you can chose between a few words: close (2 months max) – far (2 months plus) – very far away (one year +).
So next time you talk about stuff you want/like/work on, immediately burst the hype by saying it is very far away.

Stop that p2w crap, please.
Any buffs to the infrastructure being planned? ‘Cus balance isn’t everything…
Large QOL will probably matchmaking fix and leaderboard decay. Pls suprise me.

Don’t hope for something like automated tournaments or leagues or anything like that.

“No plans for leagues. Focussing on esport. Very good community response on the attempt to be an esport.”
o.O
One dev who has his doubts. No kidding….
A good/fun balance is one with options. That’s all what balance pretty much is. The more options, the more balanced a game is.
In relation to that, you need to make the space between skill floor and skill ceiling a lot bigger than it is now. In addition to that, you need to reward skill floor and skill ceiling proportionally. A low skill floor (build) needs a lower reward than a high skill ceiling (build).
The next step is allowing one and the same build to be played on different levels and be rewarding accordingly. While a skilled spirit ranger (pre-patch) would be better than a low skilled spirit ranger, the difference in reward would be far too small (because it relies waaaay to much on passives/ai).
Once you have this kind of possibilites/balance, the game will become far more fun. As it would allow individual build skill. This is always the case in any game but it’s just way to subtle in GW2. I.e. Teldo managed to play at the skill ceiling of his engi build and you would see the reward. If we could have every build/class/etc. like that, the game would become much more fun. But that should be just the beginning, as I think you could make skill even more prevalent.
As I said before, it might sound silly, but being able to ‘carry’ in a game is a big part of the fun. This is already limited by GW2 conquest but that should be the only limit. Some maps reward killing more, which is a good thing.
If you have the feeling that there’s room for improvement, things become more fun.
We always talk about rewards, which are obviously important. Many times, you get countered on this argument, because people say “Isn’t the fun the reward in itself”. Well yes, this is true. But think about CS and LoL and pretty much every other skill-based game. One less obvious reward in those games, is the sense of personal (skill) progression. In those games you see/feel the possibilities to become better. That’s why you can keep playing, you feel you’re getting better time and time again and not once you feel like you’ve reached the top of the ceiling.
Manage our expectations. It can be harsh and there would be some QQ’ing about those managed expectations. But it would be far less, because you don’t hype, you’re just being honest.
Colin started off well a few days ago. Telling us that an observer/replay mode and automated tournaments takes a lot of resources and shouldn’t be expected at all in the near feature.
First two questions —-→ Because of balancing
But PvP is a very simple format. Make a solid infrastructure and you’re ‘done’. It just needs that one time heavy investment.
I agree on his points.
Get a group and just join party when you die. Gives you 2 lives every time.
It is quite depressing to hear that engine limitation is such a factor. I’ve heard it a few times now in the past few days. My expectations for a competitive infrastructure has been lowered greatly.

Reading the comments, I"m afraid it’ll get dumbed down. World 2 has a steeper learning curve, but it’s fun. It took me 5 hours to complete both zone 1 and 2. I’ll be able to do it much faster as I know what I need to get from shops and know the zones.
Please don’t nerf it. Fix the bugs and it’ll be better already.

5 hours for zone 1 and 2 of World 2. Had a lot of fun. Nearly broke my computer though.
- We’re working on new game types.
Thats all you need do, deathmatch and the PvP community will grow.
I really think they are underestimating deathmatch.
Nope, I completely agree on his point here. Deathmatch doesn’t work. It sounds nice, but i wouldn’t work.
Removing Hotjoin shouldn’t be hard though. Many would agree on this. Hotjoin is more pve than it is pvp. People just farm it for their achievments/titles/ranks. And it hurts the pvp scene more than it does anything good for it. Except maybe the custom arena’s used for player tournaments/scrimming.
3. Add a way to spectate tournament games but make it delayed by 5 min instead of watching it live.
Since it’s late and I’m here, want to quickly debunk this one. This is like a year+ work minimum for an entire team of engineers, and may not even be feasible in our game engine.
Just to give some perspective on why stuff that often seems so easy to do, often times isn’t being done.
In general great thread though folks, keep the suggestions rolling =)
So I shouldn’t expect a replay mode nor observer mode a la gw1 anytime soon. K, is automated tournaments like gw1 hard to implement?
Just so we can get some perspective…
We still have a long ways to go to get to where we’re going, but considering where we stood when we launched with almost no features in PvP I think we’ve come a long ways.
And yet, this game was hyped to be the MMO esport…
More popular than gw1 ever was on it’s height? You’re counting the hotjoin players too, I guess. I remember the time getting top 1000 in gw1 (Guild leaderboard) was ‘hard’.
Fix it? The damage has been done. Unless they recount glory gained based on tourny wins. But that would cause another fun day on the Pvp forums.
^ This might actually change ’cause of the league system.
But still you don’t want to do 10 v 10’s in a custom arena. Because it isn’t the same gear nor without the food buffs, etc.
^ Omg… that’s golden lol.
So actually… we have been posting on the wrong forum.
Does NCsoft have any forums we can ask for more resources?
Do you really think it would be a solid gamemode?
You get 15 to 20 people together how many times? And yes there are probably some hardcore guilds out there that can have these numbers throughout the day.
Anyway, good luck on those queues.
Pvp had his bit of rage today on the forums. I’m afraid the 17th of sept will be yours as I don’t have high hopes for Bloodlust not affecting the overall stats and thus messing up the GvG scene.
When a lot of people (compared to sPvP) ask for a game mode in an MMO with 0 rewards for it, you just know that that mode is good.
How frequently are there GvG’s? I don’t see many on the ‘upcoming GvG’ part.
It’s rare and that makes it special and fun. But if it’d become a full fleshed out gamemode outside of WvW, expect it to burn out soon. Reasons being it very demanding on player count (name me one game with such high player requirements that’s somewhat competitive) and deathmatch.
Well that’s true. That’s because the individual skill cap is rather low, just as it is in WvW because we’re all playing the same classes and the same functionality.
It is hard to carry and to show true skill. That’s why the leaderboards are useless especially tied in with the skewed matchmaking.
LoL…. o.O
I’ve been speechless a few times today. GG
^ You really base your skill on a messed up soloque leaderboard with almost no population on it?
I still remember the SOTG and their answer on “Will there be any automated tournaments/offcial tournaments”. They said they were looking at the playerbase and their initiatives.
Can you be more lazy? This would have been fine if there was a solid base to build on, but not in this state.
We all know the result: A knee-jerk reaction to the dropping player-run tournaments/interest, which resulted in PAX.
No, sadly enough.
But if what you want is 5v5 just go custom arena. You can avoid the points. And really, you want Pve gear? You want those added bonusses from WvWxp? Runes of perplexity?
In pvp everyone is on the same level gear-wise.
Define best PvP’er and best GvG’er? You can’t compare it because it are two different things.
What are you talking about? Was this a murder? A post was deleted. A player left. This isn’t THAT serious. It’s a game, people will come and go. And then you say “no right to rage and manifest”….you can rage and manifest all you want, but like I said, you are ruining the forums for everyone, and raging/manifesting/ AND spamming got you guys no where.
That was an example. a guy stole something and didn’t leave any proof, so the owner have to let it go , because it is in the past? what?
and no, we are not ruining the forums for everyone, when everyone raged.
Again, your examples aren’t working. Do you think everyone crime in the world has the some judicial process? This wasn’t a murder, this wasn’t a theft. This was a deletion of a post on a public forums of a GAME. This is a GAME people. No one committed a crime. Calm down, and stop comparing this to crimes in the real world.
Ok, so let me get another example, since you can’t get the core of it
i insult your mom’s intelligent and her weight, and you can’t do anything because its the past, so let go.
and you keep saying its a game its a game, DUDE, we modafoking paid for it to enjoy it and we modafoking can’t, got it? we as a consumer, modafoking paid with our hard earned money and actually bought gem.
No, no, don’t get me wrong. I’m understanding your examples and comparisons. But they are JUST REALLY BAD examples and comparisons. You want to know why? Because what the mods did wasn’t a crime. They cleared up posts they that felt were nonconstructive to the PvP forums. If I recall, “Good-Bye” Posts aren’t even allowed on the GW2 forums, even specifically the PvP forums. Please, stop comparing what the mods did to a real world crime.
-Hemophilia
Bit nitpicking here. But Jon Peters used a Nasa reference…. :/
Ill say it one more time the best people on the leader boards are nothing when put up against the best GvG folks I have faced. Perhaps thats just the nature of conquest mode being 1v1 and top 3v3 fights the majority of the time, there is no real group concept outside of simple focus targeting. Leading to limited group skills and game mechanic understanding of pure PvPers.
Wauw…. Really? o.O O.o O.O
So those 20 people are playing more as a team than a 5man group? There is no focus targeting? So it’s just yolo?
In the process about 6-7 constructive posts by me have been deleted.
