on bunk warrior i like to start fights in axe/shield so i can block the opening burst then transition into earthshaker. the shout heal is also much better than signet, because on clerics it does 10k which is really useful for recovering from burst. I’ve had moments where im about to die, but i can kite just long enough to get the shout off and im saved. hammer stuns are also so important for reducing the incoming pressure on you and your team.
so replace stab with a defiant bar so players don’t have to use stab and stunbreaks well? sounds you want passive play easy mode.
(the only stab i play with for either class is rampage and i do fine with just stunbreaks)
doesn’t seem so bad when im playing engi. i can 1v1 and teamfight with ease.

i would try lyssa runes. they make SoR convert 5 condis to boons. so with that, brawlers and zerker stance you are actually pretty strong vs condis.

hahaha it’s more of a kamehameha build. the closest thing to SS in this game is warrior’s rampage but that’s more like the incredible hulk.
in regard to ‘heavy VS light’, it’s an rpg with magic. all classes are relatively equal, with mesmer and ele at the top and ranger at the bottom. with the current state of damage in the game no one can sit and facetank, especially not a facetank mesmer burst. however, guardian can block, blind, evade, and heal that damage. focus 5 or a well timed dodge will save you more times than toughness ever will.
i play some medi guard and have a crazy ‘goku’ build i can give you if you ever want to whisper me.
https://youtu.be/2vgYoBVnXC8 is a good guide for hammer medi. the build i linked is greatsword (which i prefer), but it still has good tips and will be very useful if you ever decide to use hammer. oh, it’s the old build system but the build is mad similar and most if not all of the tactics still work.

run Renewed Focus. read the tips on the bottom of the page and practice the build of your choice. these build are great and can both survive burst with ease.
read the mesmer builds on metabattle, and even better play them a bit. perhaps the best is to find a good mesmer who is able to teach you how to fight the class. do these for any class that give you trouble. knowledge is power.

i almost won a 4v5 yesterday. we had a ~100 point lead until the end when they killed our lord (our lord rush failed due to 4v5). that goes to show if you play hard and well you can really turn things around.
afk’ers won’t get the practice they need to be in games that don’t go to kitten, and to be able to turn it around when they do. they need to suck it up. it’s like golf, don’t focus on winning, focus on trying to improve your play. that will help you win more in the long run.
anet should implement dishonor, and a second de-buff to reward track progress for a longer period of time.
warrior needs bugfixes and the shout & warhorn nerfs reverted- then something needs to be done about offhand axe and rifle. it doesn’t need nerfs. certainly not an endure pain nerf in a burst meta… i mean dude.
i think people are getting a false sense of what good and viable are from ele and mesmer. these classes (builds really) are OP, they are not what we should be aiming for. classes like warrior, guardian, necro etc are fine. sure some tweaking is needed, but nothing like another rampage nerf and an endure pain nerf.
zerk ham/gs is good. i’m playing bunk and it certainly works in ranked, as do multiple other things like skullcrack. support and condi could do with a bit off a buff but otherwise (apart from bugs) the class is pretty good.
i end up having to use shield block basically on cd in teamfights. there is a lot of burst and focus, and i don’t slot endure pain so the block and dodges are all i have.
if you are taking Defense and shield it’s the best choice for that slot. dogged march is just not as good. reflect, shorter cd on the block AND the stun, plus might on block. it’s too good to not take imo.
would be better if we were just twerking

betwin absurd damage, insta kill burst and poisons, cleric guardian has next to no survivability now.

d/d ele is really good when you have the basic rotations down. however, i would suggest playing the class you are the most familiar with or that you enjoy the most. i found a lot of my wvw experience was transferable to pvp, and being familiar with the weapons and mechanics of a class already helps a lot.
i tried banners + shouts and crusaders a while back. clerics with fear me is just better. more cc, more support.

i like the combat, classes, art style, build system and my pals.
pvp balance could be better, and there could be more pvp modes but its pretty good right now. the balance is not as bad as people think once you’ve adapted your build and play.

A joke? That’s never happened to me in my humble 100 matches, heck that’s not even happened across matches or while in heart of the mists.
it’s happened to me in multiple matches. it’s all about how much JC feels like answering all of your prayers.
clerics shouts bunks hard if thats your jam.
Elementalist reached another SSS god level after this nerf.
It’s good nerf but u really need to do something with ele.
those who complain about d/d godmode must be the biggest scrubs. i see d/d ele go down in teamfights all the time, ah but maybe that’s because I’m an awful person who queues on TS and focuses targets. sure it’s pretty wild in a 1v1 if the ele is skilled, but ro- ro- rotate into a 2v1 and splat him down.
the nerf is good. these sigils were hitting for far too much.
cc into burst is going to be a thing regardless of what class you play.

if you enjoy the feel of the class and are prepared to study wolfineer’s videos i would say go for it. it’s a super fun class, and with a good player can absolutely do all of the things you request.

@ronpierce- i was making the comparison between weapon swapping to proc, say leeching and using using a skill, ah let’s go with ‘Throw Axe’. my point is both of these seem to take the same amount of effort, so on swap sigils are not ‘passive’ as the person i was replying to claimed.
air/fire/strength, and other on crit sigils are of course passive.
well, as someone with 9 80s who has been playing since beta i want more pvp maps and gamemodes. more armour and weapon sets you can earn, not buy from gemstore or chest rng would be great to be honest. but really better pvp rewards, gamemodes and maps are what im after. good stuff like, 2v2 domination, 8v8 capture the flag, an actual moba map.
the removal of transmutation charges is the only of the OP’s suggestions I support.

I like how people complain about air and fire , but dont complain about leeching, geomancy , doom, energy … All of the sigils used are passive bullkitten not just air/fire and provide no active gameplay outside of swapping a weapon or gearing for crit chance. The whole concept is just stupid , the only thing it does it open up a little bit of build diversity, build diversity which should already be core to the game and not have to use OP sigils for anet’s horrible lack of build diversity in the 1st place.
Glad they were stealth nerfed, this passive garbage is just silly and carried way too many classes mainly thief.
Leeching and Doom have plenty of counterplay. You see the buff icon appear when your opponent swaps weapons, and if you dodge his next attack then the effect is wasted.
Energy has counterplay, too. You already count your opponent’s dodges. Just add +1 when he swaps to the weaponset w/ energy and play around that.
Crits have counterplay too, just go ele and run stone heart and swap to earth attunement. Does that change how passive these sigils are? No , it doesn’t.
can’t see how pressing a weapon swap button to proc a skill is more passive than pressing a button to use a skill.

i just had 3 or so ranked games with pals, a medi guard and a healing mantra mesmer. the build is performing well in my humble opinion.
decent might stacking, great utility, great burns, decent power damage. it’s not burst, it’s very cele- but the cc combos with rifle and FT, and IA wreck.
the chill duration is wasted, but the runes are still great.
heavy armour exploit is worth testing out, but it hasn’t seemed worth the loss of 10% crit for skills like jumpshot (and for rampage also wow).
you have to use the two kits and the rifle as one cohesive set of skills as opposed to three guns, camping FT will not work.

suck for you dude. i took HGH and the Egun, and condis are not much of an issue for me.
either accept that your build has a big weakness or change it. condi skills can skill be blocked and dodged, so perhaps you could focus on learning their tells so you can avoid them.
i call this skill ‘pray for rampage’. however my prayers are often no heard. tornado can be decent in some situations, but nothing rampage couldn’t accomplish.
plus engineer doesn’t have peak performance so it’s rampage isn’t so scary.
you can turn off team colours in settings if you want to remove the whole Red vs Blue vibe, i did.
in regard to what you call ‘basic pvp’, which is i assume hotjoin (practice) i have two things to say.
firstly if you are in a party with your friend and he joins a game you can right click on their name to join them.
secondly, i would actually not recommend you play much hotjoin. it’s nice for warming up and build testing, but players swap sides all the time and often play for kills only (i will sit at spawn changing my build in hotjoin etc). unranked is a much better place to get real pvp practice, as opposed to soley mechanical practice.

if you are talking about Edge of the Mists, or EotM for short you need to be on wvw servers that are the same colour in wvw, then join a party to enter the same instance. if you are not in the same instance you can right click on your friends name in party to change to theirs. however if you are not the same colour you will be on opposing sides. the only way to solve that issue is to transfer to the same server, or to wait untill Saturday when the servers reset and colours change.

sigil of smouldering and a 20% duration burn rune go a long way if you have both IP and IA(FT).
mending needs to be a physical skill and heal more with more adrenaline 30%, and go back to removing 3 condis.
nope, it’s nice in tactics. shouts + hammer is a thing, and it really benifits from leg specialist.
clerics > settlers. only bleeds and some burn will equate to zero damage in a teamfight where there is AOE condi clear.

i’m using rifle, Egun and flamethrower on my engi. since toolkit auto is rarely used most engi builds are fully ranged, although they are most effective in medium range. so engi seems like it could be what you’re looking for.
