Removing swords only helps out zergs. If you’re not disciplined enough to prevent orange swords appearing at inconvenient moments, then you should be punished for it.

As for those small groups constantly whining for fair fights, if only there was some sort of setting of PvP that was structured for a select number of people to fight against another select number. A structured PvP, if you will.

I am someone who prefers small man roaming groups. That said, I won’t knock on the zergs as that’s how people want to play.. I’m not going to wine about zergs as much as I can’t see the fun in being in one, though I do join in for a zerg assault now and then.

But I am REALLY tired of this cut/paste argument from people like you. We DON’T want to play SPVP.. Tiny maps with a set 5/8 people is NOT the same as roaming around the larger maps of WvW having small scale skirmishes.. Try to understand that’s what some people enjoy.

Small groups can play a large part in a successful map control anyways. From taking over supply camps without taking away the large forces from the assaults/defense to stopping reinforcements from reaching an assault/defense. To each his own, and every style has a place in WvW.

Some people just wish there was more mechanics that promoted small scale groups (without eliminating zerging), just so that we could enjoy what WE like more often as well, since we would get to engage in more of the battles we like. I can’t see how anyone would think something is wrong with that.

I play warrior, thief and elementalist in WvW, warrior most of the time now. I can’t think that I’ve ever lost a 1v1 with a thief while on my warrior. Sometimes they escape, and sometimes I have to back off, but never lost.

One of the chief points of the thread is not 1v1, but the ability to stop a thief from destroying siege engines.

With their ability to constantly stealth, it’s virtually impossible to keep them off of siege. The best you can do is AE the area and get them to move away but that’s only going to keep them off for about 5 seconds, and then they’ll be back.

Net result is always the same:
10+ siege defenders are running around swinging wildly at the air while the thief pops around slowly killing all the siege in the field. 1 thief can still be there dealing damage long after a group of 5 bunker elementalists (or any other class or combo) would have been killed.

Invisibility is simply the best “tank” ability in the game, and it’s on the highest DPS class.

An ele can block trebs from hitting the door/wall. Whats the point again?

It takes multiple Ele’s coordinating on VOIP to actually prevent the wall/gate from going down. It takes 1 thief to kill the siege, I think that’s the point.

I don’t know how in your server.. you don’t get punish but in my server when i do that to a good guild. I be spam with everything they got. Its nearly impossible getting 1-100% siege just by yourself and in case you do it.. Theres probably gonna be more than 1 cata.. most likely will be 2-4 cata + treb + arrowcart/ballista.

Gl with all the mesmer pulls and warrior/guardian hammers.

Good luck hitting me with all that when I have near endless dodges with acrobatics, vigor on heal, vigor from steal and endurance regen food. And like I said before, if I do get hit, shadowstep to the nearest noob and get a stealth and run around CND the clueless till I have my “oh shiat” cd’s again.

Oh btw I’ve played on pretty much every server.. Including multiple T1 servers.

The funny thing about it is, the more ppl there is, the harder it is for a class like ele to do anything.. The more people there is, the easier it is for a thief.

Done this a million times on my thief.. I have the timing down perfectly that I run across the siege one direction, CND keep going, turn back, by the time I reach the seige again I’m casting CND just as stealth’s wearing off. (dodge rolls included to avoid most damage <3 acro). If I feel like I got the attackers scattered enough to pull off a string of autos or a kill on the operator(or if I just have my stealthing utils available) then I do that, which happens quite often.

I’ve ran around countless times in 30 man attacker zergs doing this.. I’ve done it inside towers when defenders are sieging a choke point (ty steal.shadowstep for getting me in the backline). I’ve done it against countless situations and it almost always works.

I realize it’s cheesy and mostly due to culling.. But I say all this to point out that as a thief player, no just spamming AOE or CC’s is not going to stop it unless you get very lucky or the thief is not very good. As someone who runs a more balanced build, the aoe’s are laughable and the CC’s unless chained aren’t going to get me low enough that I can’t survive and heal back up.

About the only thing that ever really hinders me is multiple necros spamming marks and Mesmers using focus pulls at just the right time along with other people reacting fast to it.

Oh btw the thing that really makes this shine is that even when I get in trouble on the siege.. I shadow step away and out of EVERY 30 man zerg even if there is 20 aware players, there are at least 5-10 inexperienced easy to spot CND fodder players.

Necros got something great this patch. Power/Toughness/Condition trinkets in Orr for Karma yay.. Now I don’t have to spend 20g each for my ring.s

I havent been able to log on since this update, but Power/Toughness/Condition Damage is the set I’ve always wanted for my Necro. Which karma vendor do you get it from?

Temple of Dwayna has them. IIRC, Lyssa has Magi’s (Precision, vitality, healing power, perfect for those alturistic healing guardians)

If I’m not mistaken Dwayna’s set (rabid) is Precision/Toughness/Condition, not Power/Toughness/Condition, but correct me if I’m wrong.

Yeah your totally right I meant Precision, typed Power for whatever reason. I think most everyone misread it and got what I meant anyways lol.

The new gear that one can buy with laurels. great, another way to get that shiny fractal equivalent gear that w3 players can only dream of. but oh woe, it doesn’t come at the cost of badges. as a mather of fact you need a new currency. you need to do dailies for this currency.

today it says :

5 veterans
15 attacks dodged
10 items crafted
20 gatherings
5 events

what a joke. 4 pve tasks and … one crafting ? nothing w3 related ? this clearly is not the gear they promised we would be able to get via w3 and it certainly is not a w3 based character progression system but a completely unconnected set of gear.

now that that misunderstanding is gone, i can only say i am looking forward to the w3 gear and char progression in february.

Less QQ man, those can all be done in wvw, and even an exclusive wvw player should have SOME mats to put together to craft 10 things.
The dailys have to cater for the whole spectrum of the playerbase – you make it sound like you want criteria like ‘’capture redvale’’ or ‘’spend 200 supply’’ which obviously pve players cant do

No, what he wants is a method that caters to WvW players and allows them to get Ascended gear at an equivalent rate/effort as PvE players. You know how Anet’s motto is you can be on the same level as everyone else, playing the game how YOU want.

I have to hope this is coming in Feb. I only WvW, still have never done a single Fractal and don’t want to. Would like to be able to be on par gear wise with other people.

Btw adding it to badge vendors would have made some sense.

Throw down a golem as a grave marker (only print I had on me) on someone I killed who I really didn’t like… Happens to be in a supply camp… Team builds it, uses it to take 3 towers.

Today.. Chasing a Necro on my Mesmer.. I blink, then sword leap/swap. I end up stuck under ground and it seemed as if the Necro couldn’t move as well.. After I killed/finished him off I then popped up out of the ground.

Got all 3 to 80 in WvW mainly, Necro all the way from 2-80 aside 2 lvls in the late 70’s from CoF runs.
All 3 in full exotics also, and now ran all 3 in dungeons too a fair bit.

What i’d say is, it depends what you want to do.
For zergs, all 3 are very useful, though i’d say of the 3, the mesmer is the least useful in a zerg aside a few of scenarios.

1) Portal bomb
2) Enemy turtles, so you use feedback
3) Time warping golems or something

Necro and Ele are epic in zergs with AoE damage and useful skills. Necro fearing people off siege/repairing gates/defending siege is very good as is ele using swirling winds or static fields depending on weapon set (d/d isn’t really a zerging set).

For roaming, Necro probably falls into last place. The speed the mesmer can solo camps is quite impressive if you do it right, and the ele with a bunker d/d build will stick most peoples bodies 6 ft under.

I couldn’t vote one of the 3, love them all a lot.

Having all 3 geared and played regularly in WvW (also leveled in there), I have to agree with this post. Condition Necros are insanely useful in zerg battles and mesmers/eles are two of the best duelists in the game. Though a crit focused meleeish Necro can be a good duelist and roamer which I’m currently gathering gear to build, I’ve run it in spvp and have a blast.

This is like the third time.

The only reason you guys got close to getting SM is because we had a troll build 10+ trebs and golems inside to waste our supply. Here’s a picture for proof.

Oh I think you’re the mesmer from Envy that I fought in wvw not long ago, you’re the first good mesmer not using ranged attacks that I met.
(I was a AR sylvary ele from TWIN that kept bugging you if you remember)

Yeah that was me and I do remember you, was fun fighting you. I was running a scepter/sword-staff setup at that time.. Currently using my GS-sword/focus atm though, I switch my builds a lot (on all 4 of my active classes).

It could be worse. Read the threads in other tiers QQing about the lopsided match ups, and then think up a complaint about how we have it. I’ll take culling over being another server’s hood ornament anyday.

To AR, that was a heck of a battle for our bay tonight. Badges were given as much as taken. GG.

And to NSP, I thought y’all got a decent handful of transfers. Where are they? You’ve been MIA the last two days.

All I’ve seen posted about is us transferring here. And only part of the guild came.. We are running around with like 2-5 people.. And NSP lost a guild at the same time (likely larger then ours). Sorry but our 5 people aren’t going to make a dent in the massive numbers both you guys have.

Golem in a Box. Intended for WvW use?

Last person I saw using a golem in the box ate a pile of dirt with a flag in their back. Dunno what the big deal is.

They only hurt from seige golems as others have said. Or if you are too squishy for wvwvw already.

Oh yea? I have 2900+ armor on one of my chars that was being hit for 6-8k from both a thief and a ranger. I guess 2900 armor is “squishy” now..

They are BS when your standing on a wall far enough back not to be hit by anything but ranger/ele aoe and they just go over the lip, or standing in the back of a zerg since they have 1600 range. I’ve noticed people are scripting them now sending a solid stream out.

SOO glad they will be removed today.

They really need to adjust thieves

Nerfs :

1) Take away 5K HP from the base, to make sure theres a real risk
2)Remove stealth completely, it’s lame
3) 50% damage nerf. The fact that they can do so much damage is lame
4) Add cooldowns. At least 30 seconds for heartseeker, with 10 seconds for auto attack. All this on top of initiative

Everytime a thief uses steal, he will steal all of the enemy player’s money, which will be transferred into his inventory

Ahh the good old days of MUDs where you could actually steal peoples loot out of their bags. On top of being a stealther who did massive damage.

So I wonder, is there anybody on that Envy guild that isn’t a thief or mesmer?

Well I was playing my thief today but I have 4 geared 80’s that I play on a regular basis. Ele, Thief, Necro, Mesmer, in the order in which I play most frequently. But yeah a large percentage of the guild is Thief or Mesmer.

Oh well…..At least one week of a even match up was good.
Was hoping for another, but looks like the transfers are in at SF.

Whaaa?? O.o

The score as of this posting is currently:

SF: 164,806
FC: 145,723
ET: 97,322

If you compare that point spread with the point spreads of the other tiers, you’ll notice that this is still a relatively even match and SF is NOWHERE near dominating (if you want to see domination as a result of server transfers, look at those point spreads in tiers 5 and 6). (http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA)

I myself haven’t noticed much in the way of server transfers, but that’s not to say it hasn’t been happening. But I personally don’t think server transfers is playing much of a role in SF taking the lead as much as ET loosing even more WvWers (sorry to hear ET ). SF has always had the numbers to do well when they’re against one strong population server and one weak population server. Now that we’re not fighting a two-front war nearly as much, SF is able to cap more assets and put a lot more heat on FC. We also have a lot of “fair weather” players on our server. When the going gets rough in WvW, our players retreat to PvE. When the going gets good in WvW, our players decide that WvW is fun again and return to WvW. Also, I’ve been hearing stuff about a new alliance on SF that is trying to get our WvW organized and populated, which may be playing into things.

Just because SF has taken the lead doesn’t mean the match isn’t even anymore or that we’ve gotten an influx of server transfers. The point spread is still relatively competitive and there are plenty of other reasons that could explain the lead. If we start seeing a point discrepancy of hundreds of points, then we can start pointing the finger at server transfers.

Keep up the good fight and don’t let that morale dip!

Well we went to nice even battles in EBG to SF having 100% EB and 50 ppl outisde our spawn all day, overnight. It’s not even anymore, don’t kid yourself.

Had a couple fun duels with an asura D/D Ele from ENVY last night (I was the human S/S Mesmer) around SM and Klovan with multiple resets and thieves on both sides butting in. I don’t think any of the actual duels ended decisively at all in favor of either of us, but it sure was fun. When you finally got caught (by presumably a million thieves) in front of SM it was definitely worth the /bow despite the hail of arrow cart fire I was standing under.

That’s me, I’m always up for dueling or w/e just send me a /w..

Wow Ferg’s what happened to you? Did you guys suddenly choose to be dbags? I’m visiting ET for a week and was doing EB JP and you guys love ganging up on ppl there even when they respectfully bow. Especially that Charr from the guild SIKE. I’m so dissapointed, respect has been lost for some of you.

What are you talking about, we have the same problem with people from SF and ET camping ever JP and ganking our players. Don’t make it seem like our server is the only one that does it.

I am not, I’m telling my personal experience with fergs who I bowed to several times and spoke with who just laughed and continued. I had no issues with SF while in JP they all bowed right back. I’m speaking personally and notice how I said SOME. My whole time in the puzzle all I saw was fergs ganging up on everyone there. So for this personal experience the only ones were fergs. I posted here because I know before we wanted to know ppl camping JP so our server could deal with it, so I did so to post about this guy from SIKE. I was so kitten far in the JP So I was pretty upset since I’m not very good at them lol and no one around to revive me. I know every server has ppl like this so please don’t think I am saying Fergs are the only ones. I have quite a few friends in FC and I’m not that type of person. Just speaking on my personal experience today. I’m not use to running into issues like this, personally had nothing but positive and respectful experiences in the JP, any other time. So this was a new experience for me, and I was just dissapointed. I apologize if it seemed that way, I suppose I should have elaborated in my first post more. So SORRYYYY <3

Seriously who cares, it’s the jumping puzzle it’s not a safe zone. Personally I never go in there but if I did you bet I’d attack any red names.

On a side note, rocked my Ele in EBG today and had a blast all day long.. Great battle to hold SM and just tons of epic fighting all day long..

condi ranger shortbow imo for overall pressure.

for dmg havent played warrior but glass necro dagger will be like 500-700-1000 for the three attack 1 spam

Its actually more like (if they all crit) 1000,1000 – 2500 – 4000 in a little over 1s

Id say glass necro dagger is second to warrior axe.

Yeah I was going to respond to this because I play a crit based d/d Nec in spvp and these are the numbers I experience or close to them, but I’m not full glass. He’s probably using just power and no crit.

On my ele I used magnetic grasp on a thief just before he used infiltrators arrow (he was already near max range when I used it – in wvw btw) , he IA’d I think a total of 4 times and my magnetic grasp just kept pulling me to him and caught me up all the way. So MG traveled me a total of about 5700 units instead of 900, while I found it funny, was pretty ridiculous.

The only thing needed to get people into tourneys is solo queue’s (with no premade vs pugs) . And to make hotjoin more popular, matchmaking system. These are the reason thousands of casuals are not playing them.

It depends. Sometimes I will go after the biggest threat first(doing high damage), sometimes the most annoying (lots of CC’s) or sometimes the squishiest. If one falls into more then one category at once, for sure them.

Usually my priority is the one that’s doing massive damage to me though.

It all really depends, sometimes certain classes are just annoying as hell and I have to focus them down first.

You can’t really just say “I do this always” though.. For example, maybe I will focus on the bursty thief who’s a big threat to me enough to get him on the defensive then switch to the squishy guy and down him before the thief is back on the offensive.

It’s always situational. Another example. I’m playing a class with high mobility, I get attacked by a class with high mobility + one with low mobility. Well then I use my mobility to separate them (since one can keep up with me and one can’t), and turn it into a 1v1 at least for awhile.

I always like hotjoins where the players actually say stuff in chat, even if it’s “l2p nub”, “2222222 thief” jajaajaja. Always amusing but also shows some players caring about learning their class more. I hate silent games where it seems people don’t give a kitten at all.

lol I love saying 222222222222222222222222222 everytime I kill a thief that was trying to HS me to death. Always makes them so mad and focus me as hard as they can for the rest of the match, always good fun.

Ghastly claws vs life siphon

I found in golem testing ghastly claws did more by about 1k damage in my build. (crits).

However, axe #1 attack is VERY weak compared to dagger #1 AND dagger #1 will get you life force sooooo fast and axe #1 won’t get you jack kitten. It’s no contest in my opinion, for a power or crit based setup dagger>axe hands down.

Why does everyone think power is the only way to run a direct damage setup? I personally run a crit build and have a lot of fun with it. Critical damage bonus is in the deathshroud line which adds a ton of survivability being able to hop in and out of it every 5 seconds if I want, having it last much longer, less CD on the DS skills and on top of it gaining life force extremely fast with d/d-staff.

I use offhand dagger because I can’t see any other offhand replacing the low cooldown condition transfer of the #4 skill.

You can have around 45% crit chance (which is plenty to get crits on a regular basis) while still having 28k hp, toughness is a bit low granted. But my autoattack chain from dagger hits for around 4k usually, Life Siphon from 2.5k-4k, same with Life Transfer in DS.

I actually run with 0 points in spite and have around 2600 attack, but with crits I do plenty of damage. Sometimes I’ll run with a zerker ammy and get around 3k attack but that takes me down to 22k hp so its more risk/reward scenario.

This type of build is a completely different playstyle and takes a different mindset then the types of builds most necros run, it may not work for everyone, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t viable. It helps to have as much CC’s as you can, personally I run spectral grasp and flesh golem.

I had a laugh when this Mesmer ask in /m “Whats with this melee necro dancing around people like she’s a thief”.

Awesome gameplay! Amazingly tense fight full of moves and counter-moves. The jockeying for positioning and fakeouts were just incredible from both sides. You couldn’t really tell who was going to win until the very last second there.

Probably that wasn’t supposed to be a gameplay video, but it is just to show how that combo works?

BTW when he is casting churning earth is a good chance to build some life force by landing staff 1 a couple times. I wouldn’t say that’s a strong play, I just enjoy the novelty of landing staff 1.

It’s also a good time to pop DS and fear him. If I remember right from playing my ele, churning earth being interrupted puts it on full CD.

The 50% more damage when down is wonderbar against Mesmer. For some reason it’s the single most damaging spell we have against them where they can’t really do anything except flee and let you rally.

The trick, of course, is to know when to down yourself. When I feel I’m ready, I turn my back to his clones, I bask in their shatter combo and finally my true potential can be brought to light.

Yeah any Mesmer who is not completely ignorant will just summon a few clones on you and then break LOS enough to heal up or w/e.

"Bunker Necro?" and other SPvP Questions

Well I play a bunker necro in sPvP, but nothing really resembling your build (which looks more like an axe/deathshroud power build I’ve seen floating round the forums a lot.)

So while my build isn’t much like yours, I’ll at least share my general experiences playing full bunker. I actually tried this build as a joke, just to see how stupidly hard to kill I could make myself and pretty much just kitten, Then I found it working disturbingly well.

I run mainly wells with a staff primary weapon (and yes, they actually do work in PVP with decent timing and a bit of luck) and a dagger/warhorn as my secondary weapon.

As a group support class/style, it’s absolutely outstanding. Ripping boons off enemies, conditions off allies, regeneration/chills/fears/blinds all over the place, it’s a tremendous force multiplier. (Good use of plague can massively swing the odds of a fight in your teams’ favour as well.)

In 1v1s, I rely mainly on just wearing them down slowly. My burst damage is pretty much nonexistant, but you’d be surprised how little that’s mattered. Guardians and the occasional ele or thief (the bunker condition ones, I think, which stealth every 5 seconds or so) are realistically not killable but they utterly failed to kill me either.
Other than encounters like that which relied more heavily on being able to burst, I win a fairly high percentage of 1v1 fights.

Necro has all the right ingredients for a very strong defensive setup, make use of them and you’ll get surprisingly good results. Sorry I can’t offer much advice on your build, because frankly I have no real experience playing something so deathshroud heavy, but just so you know bunker necro builds can and do work hilariously well with a bit of practice and playing to your strengths.

Best of luck in sPvP you’re playing a heavily underrated class.

Same experience.. I made the most tanky build I could just to mess around as a joke. Just short of 3k armor and 29k hp with well of power and well of suffering along with signet of locust and flesh golem. I had a pretty decent healing power and used sigil of life, along with all the siphoning traits(i’m aware not affected by HP).

I thought I would never kill anything, boy was I surprised just how effective the build was, even winning 1v1’s with bunker ele’s.

I hate the underwater combat, but I just avoid Ruins unless I need to go because nobody else is. The map also can become zergy near spawn points which can be annoying.

I still hate the trebs in Khylo more though.

Agree on everything, remove quickness and HS jump thing.

It is so funny, a thief tried to catch me while i was running with ride the lightning just spamming HS, he used it just to catch me xD

I had a thief chase me circles around the map on my necro (using signet of locust) just spamming HS HS HS HS HS.. I just kept on running dropping marks at my feet, by the time I finally stopped and turned around he was at 10% hp and still pressing 2, laughed my kitten off for sure.

Death Blossom bleeds’ default duration is 10s. You can even steal skills that apply a 1min bleed stack. Anyway since bleeds tick every full second there is no point in getting 7.5. I’m not sure if the game rounds up though – needs testing I guess.

Well I’m talking about pistol auto/sneak attack, it seems to cap at 7.5s no matter how much I stack duration(i think my deathblossom bleeds are at like 14s don’t remember offhand). You won’t reach 7s without hitting 7.5 with any combo of duration boosts that I’ve found anyways. Btw the duration provided by the runes won’t show in tooltip, but I tested by looking at the bleeds on npc’s I was hitting.

Also, when you just use the food/crystal the tooltip will say 5.5 so I don’t know if it matters or not, but the game certainly relays it.

Seriously, I can’t kill anyone with a condition damage build in WvW.

My enemies keep removing conditions so easily I run out of initiative before their HP reach 75%.

Look into condition durations. Bleeds with my build are 7.5 seconds which seems to be a hard cap. Get super pizzas and master tuning crystals. Use 2 krait, 2 centaur, 2 afflicted runes(you don’t need these runes if you have 20 points in deadly arts as either or takes you to that 7.5s hardcap). I run 0,0,30,20,20 though which allows me to stealth non stop and has all the great survivability traits, plus dodge caltrops and lots of might stacking from both stealthing non stop and dodging non stop.

The build felt quite lackluster till I started using those nourishment’s. Now I can stack 15 bleeds quickly and keep a solid 10-15 consistently. So no matter how many times they remove the conditions I can just pop out 10-15 more bleeds in no time.

In wvw, I would only throw on caltrops for defending towers (works awesome if you refuge and run out and drop trops on the rams and spam some deathblossoms before running back in, i run p/d and d/d together). I also use them when soloing the center quaggan island and supply camps. Other then that I would rather run refuge/bp/shadow step in most wvw situations.

In hotjoin spvp, I consider caltrops mandatory. And I would put them in my refuge slot (trops, bp, shadowstep).

In pve, again I would run caltrops in replace of refuge.

This would explain how someone was able to use their arrow cart from inside the South East tower in the middle of the tunnel. We had built catapults in an area that was known to be unreachable by siege and somehow a defender was able to target their arrow cart dead center on all that siege and players inside the tunnel. We couldn’t move anywhere in that tunnel without being hit.

There is also a hack out there that auto targets the largest grouping of enemies and isn’t affected whatsoever by line of sight, and is reported to even have a longer range. I’ve mailed the link to Anet, I won’t be stupid enough to post the link here though like the guy earlier in this topic.

Cmon Kain let’s get serious here. It does you no justice at all to call your SoS buddies for a couple of hours, so they can zerg the whole map, then leave? Why do you think we had the hots for you in the first place? Because of them. . . You can’t stand up on your own yet, and so you make things worse by calling them?

Fergs are doing a great job holding their BL, can’t seem to crack them just yet.

DR wants to move up a tier, to give you guys a break pretty much, to even out the playing field.

Last I checked SoS was part of the server, so it is “on their own”. I’m pretty sure they WvW whenever they feel like it, and leave on the same accord.

And like the guy above me says you aren’t moving up till someone moves down. I don’t agree that it has anything to do with who you attack though. The ratings in this tier from #1 to #2 are already so far apart it would take like a 400k to 80k blowout to gain you significant ratings at this point.

Yeah my thoughts are you’re running a scrub build and you got scrubbed on. Against thieves in your setup, even on my vitality sustained backstab build(valk armor, zerk accessories, 30 in SA etc), I can insta-gib you.

Oh and he most likely was a full zerk with basilisk.

You keep saying D/D eles counter thieves as if that’s some indisputable fact. There are more builds than glass cannon thief, and the more utility and heal focused thieves are just insane. They heal themselves even faster than ele’s can, and more often since all they have to do is stealth to heal, and properly built thieves can stealth any time they want to. They don’t have the huge burst dps, but they can certainly either wear the ele down over time (a long time), or stalemate the fight with both sides healing too much to die.

The only fact is that a thief will NEVER die unless they let themselves. Maybe some bad d/d thief who is just spamming heartseeker will, sure, but any decent thief is 100% unkillable. They won’t win every fight, but just about, and even if they lose, they still won’t die unless they decide to be nice and give away the kill.

I’m asuming that you don’t play a Thief from your words.

The builds you are talking about are Condi Thief builds.Which are depending on their condi damages and mild heals.

You can’t wear down a D/D Ele as you say coz they have a nice condi removal setup on their traits.And no my friend a Thief can’t overheal a well built D/D Ele since they can heal themself to full hp within seconds by changing to water attunement and using couple skills there with the right build.Also “IF” Ele isn’t a bad player , Thief can’t run away.Ele can chase you and catch you or can CC you and won’t even let you run away.Your only actual option is shadow refuge but with a lil timing luck if Eles knockback from lightning 5 is not on cd , Ele won’t let you stay on shadow refuge so you won’t be stealthed anymore.

Please atleast don’t flame my words if you don’t actually know about the build you are talking about which is i use %90 of the time.

A well played thief will not lose to a Ele. Likewise, a well played D/D Ele will not lose to a thief. However, if both players are commited to the fight and stay to the bitter end. The condition thief has the advantage over the D/D Ele while the D/D Ele has the advantage over the burst D/D thief after the stun break.

Well if the Ele is running a 3 cantrip removal build along with Ether Renewal, a condition thief will not kill him if they fight for 3 days straight. Likewise if the thief is built properly, the Ele will not kill him either.

How do I trap a thief?

Guardian is the only class that I know that can effectively “trap” a thief and it has to be the hammer variety and time his 5 skill on the Refuge Just as it dissapears.

Hammer warriors can charge in with there Hammer surge, and follow up with the 4 skill to Knock em out of the refuge before it despawns to give them the debuff.

Your best bet to getting a thief as a Necro is to use your Staff and Fear trap right on the refuge hoping you hit the thief and is forced to run out. Condition spamming is useless agaist a shadow specced Thief as they are actively removing Conditions on stealth and every 3 seconds. So your Chill is probably being cleansed faster than you can reapply it.

Thiefs counter shadow refuging with shortbow jumping in it while active and spamming the Kitten out of the 2 skill. or if they happen to have a necro steal on handy ((rare though has happened against me))

Rangers Blow all your traps on the refuge and Longbow 5 it….though can’t say thattle be enough sorry rangers.

Engeniers tough but a fully specced grenaider can make a thiefs life miserable inside it. also Rifle jumshot onyourself inside can sometimes insta kill us if your fast enough.

Elementalist Not sure don’t play one. although a D/D flame thingy harresses me alot inside refuge.

Mesmers are kind of SOL on the whole Refuge thing, they don’t a way to summon there primary damage against a refuged thief. And glamour spells are useless against a shadow specced thief who does absolute nothing during it and runs away and all there Crowd controlls are targeted.

Mesmers are not SOL. #5 GS knocks em right out, #4 focus knocks em out, chaos storm is quite annoying in refuge and finally a blurred frenzy or just sword auto attacks can do wonders.

Hey, WP here. We’re kinda unnoticed, but anyway, we’re taking a break from putting hardcore hours into wvw this week. It’s got nothing to do with kains or fergies, just got a little fed up when one of our commanders last night who decided to take half the zerg on a karma/exp train for 2 hours, which put the other half in a quagmire situation. Anyway, your choice, but we came to wvw to actually fight people, not npcs.

So, in return for your PvE escapades, Mr. “Night-time commander only” we are going to focus on fractals/dungeons/building another twilight. Yes, we are going to have 2 of them n__n

Infinite dodging build

Hm…interesting.

So, you’re saying, one could technically kill many noobs in WvW just by dodging around them and placing down caltrops. I’m going to re-roll for the lolz.

I actually trolled a guy to death once with nothing but dodgeTrops. I’ve also done this with my mesmer killing someone with only clones (no phantasm, no shatter) just the bleeds from clones. Both full 80’s, there are some really bad players out there.
