Three simple solutions.

2 Duelers gather at the windmill near the south camp, like the GvG guilds used to, and no one will bother them there and they won’t be bothering anyone else.

Believe it or not windmill was the unofficial dueling spot long before gvg’ers started that up.

Also, sort of in regards to spawn trebs/seige. Has anyone seen home defense razor, or did he get disabled too? I mean, not that I’ve tried it, but if old SR isn’t there anymore, the increase of questionable spawn seige might be part of the reason.

The patch that brought in Alpine removed him (rightfully so imo).

I had to watch 10 mins of your latest stream just to see. As suspected I found out your idea of “ton of fun” is a few 3v1 ganks and running halfway across the map at the mere sighting of any thing else.

Watching your own VOD all I saw was dead map save for 1 blob and a few soloers.

Also currently on MAG getting ready to go into prime EBG is queued and bls’ are boring ours is full green.

1: Example: Bay, and SWT… SWT can treb Bay, but Bay can’t Treb SWT. Proper. This placement forces the players that own the keep to come out and fight, and engage the tower to destory the treb.

Well its been 7 months since I played Alpine, so my memory might be rusty, but I thought there was a spot in Bay that could hit the cata wall at SWT with a treb. I think it was an unconventional place where it could easily be hit by ranged attackers, but I am pretty sure there was a place to do it.

Example2: Hills trebbing SET, broken. Requires not planning, or defending of the treb on hills to simply take the SET.

Yeah that has always been an issue since there is no good way to defend against it from the tower itself. I generally would run up to the hills treb spot and build an AC and take out the treb.

As to the rest of your post, I’m just not going to bother replying. You obviously enjoy the PvE aspects of WvW more than the intended game play.

I myself hate most if not all of the pve mechanics in wvw, and the stat unbalancing ones like bloodlust.

However, the orb you had to transfer on foot was actually very fun and provided a lot of action, that is until fly/underground hackers ruined it.

I took enemy-BL hills yesterday with a group of six people against a garbage-tier 30-man blob during NA prime. That was extremely satisfying, and pretty much literally impossible to do in the DBL’s.

So you did a PVDOOR backcap.. How engaging… Such PVP.

You probably don’t know the feeling as I imagine you’re one of those Mag players who rides on the server’s reputation of skilled play while pretending to have skill with “roaming” with 15 people camping solo players from enemy spawns. Fighting outnumbered, partially wiping, and still taking an objective is quite engaging, as the task of staying alive and coordinating people itself is quite difficult and involves a lot of strategy to maintain people up or make sacrifices, diversions, etc. on the fly.

I like to fight when outnumbered. It’s much more stimulating than pressing 1 in the backline of a blob or facerolling the keyboard on most meta roaming classes/builds in 1v1 encounters.

Yeah imagine fantasy all you like buddy. The majority of my 7000+ hours in wvw is solo or 1-5 man play.

So keep on talking about kitten you don’t know.

Seeing as almost all instances of when I saw the XOXO tag in my recent matchup fighting Mag were in groups of at least ten people, and the only person I did see from the guild running alone was a chronomancer who was probably the single worst mesmer I’ve ever seen, I don’t really think it’s too far-fetched.

Particularly when you’re so defensive over being as awesome as you say you are or that my stance has no merit to make an argument over what is fun when opinions and perceptions of fun itself are subjective.

Who am I, though, to make such disillusioned assertions when the penultimate factor in deciding relevance of perception and experience should come from the number of hours spent playing a game.

Sigh I never said I was anything special, merely defended being classified as a “type”. I also never said anything against anyone playing however they want.

If I was to take a stab at assuming who you are like you did me though- I would go with “wait in the distance while enemy is fighting and jump in to spike the last bit of health after all cd’s are gone then jump on the corspe and proclaim yourself a roamer”.

I virtually don’t participate in any other part of the game. Maybe 200 hours in spvp, 1 fractal one time, 3 times I did a dungeon, and as long as it took to unlock elites in pve.

I exaggerated ever so slightly.. Just under 7k not over(

Okay but 7 months later the population is still down lol. And if you’re on Borlis Pass, you probably didn’t notice much of anything since it was pretty dead pre-HoT anyway. All of the Tier 1-4 servers felt it majorly.

Many of us left right after HOT because nothing was done to revive WvW. None of the core problems were addressed and that kittened a lot of long-time faithful players off, myself included.

After 7k hours as a WvW-Only player I walked away from the game right after HOT, not because of the maps.

To clarify Rewards/Population rebalance/PPT issues addressed.. This is kitten that should have come with HOT as part of the upgrade.

Doesn’t work anymore.

It still removes stability and follows up with more cc right? No it doesn’t completely demolish stab stacks like it did, but still useful.

I just want to point out that currently on Mag EBG is queued, the bl’s are dead save for a couple pvdooring ktrains.

This is the Alpine I remember, and why I didn’t want it back.

I think it’d be good to read the update notes for today’s build.

A lot has been adjusted and amended, as you can see:

  • The Alpine borderlands map has been rotated back into play.
  • Updated map content to be consistent with existing WvW maps.
    • Sentries now detect and mark enemy players on the map.
    • Original resource nodes have been removed. Resource synthesizer nodes now exist inside objectives.
    • Objectives now have capture-point decals.
    • Objective lords now have health scaling.
    • Objectives now upgrade based on dolyak caravan deliveries.
    • Objectives now support the updated guild-claiming and guild-objective upgrades systems.
    • Disabled Commander Siegerazer’s breakout events.
    • Cultural armor vendors have been added at the team citadel areas.
    • Dolyak caravans now jog rather than walk.
    • Dolyak caravans now gain the Protected Caravan effect when allied players are nearby.
    • Players can no longer rally by killing basic creatures.
    • Halved the number of ambient creatures (deer, drakes, wolves, etc.).

Frankly just the idea of jogging dolyaks makes it all worthwhile to me.

But seriously, give it a try before making a judgment, ok? The WvW Team is actively reading your feedback, but that feedback is always best when based on solid experience with the current map.

With all due respect all of those are menial surface changes. We’ve played the same map for 3 years, nothing fundamental (every day game-play besides pvdoor) has changed. Those of us who were bored of it, are still going to be bored of it.

Not to say I don’t love some of the changes (ambient mobs, rally, removing Siegerazer- namely), but they won’t change the way the map is played one bit.

Had I seen a change to the center of the map which has received a ton of negative feedback, I might be more inclined to be a little excited by it.

Disabled the “Thin the local mosquito population” event.
Disabled the periodic dolyak caravan ambushes.

I honestly miss the days where you could put trait points wherever you wanted. It allowed for a whole lot more viable variations that added spice. Hell I used to change my build on one toon multiple times a day because I had so many variations on each that I liked to play.

Nowadays anet actually balances around “metas” on purpose which completely destroys build diversity.

Now Mesmer is the new scapegoat that nobody will ever find fair until it’s nerfed into oblivion and taken completely out of play like Thief was.

Can we be a little more specific? What traits should I take? What runes should I use, what sigils? When I ask for something like this, I’m expecting full advice, not vague hints of what I SHOULD be doing with a class, I haven’t really played.

Christ. I hate to get mean here, but this is the second time you Rev players have done this to me. I mean seriously. I asked for a good universal build in the Guardian forms, got two or three.

Staff-Scepter-Torch

Decoy, Blink, Mantra of Resolve, Mass Invis.

Survive, do lots of damage, escape. Either way is ezmode but chrono better if you have it.

After playing only wvw for 3 years and QUITTING THE GAME because****** of low population and even t1/t2/t3 being dead in comparison to the game mode that was so fun and vibrant in it’s first year.

I just can’t understand how you are trying to justify purposely having dead servers. Even t2 which I visited before this patch only had action during prime, the rest of the time it was dead game.

And yeah this is a TEST, trying TO **balance the servers. Not make dead servers for thin skinned folk who can’t handle embracing a new community.

ANET is finally mending my broken heart by revitalizing the WVW population and making it fun as hell again.. You are here trying to ruin that, so yes I will continue to speak out against idiots trying to sabotage an amazing game mode.

I guess there’s no having a civil conversation with someone as angry as you.

I’ll move on.

I’m not angry I’m just very passionate about this game mode and don’t want to see the recent progress reverted just because some people are so hung up on a kittening server name.

I wish they would just have the guts to come out and call them merges. Linking was a dumb term, when in fact (confirmed by a DEV quoting me when I said this) it was meant to mean “dynamic merge”.

I can understand and respect that. It’s not so much the server name that we are trying to preserve. I and others with me have no issue if servers merged and we had to give up being Erradon Terrace. It’s the change in game play many of us don’t like. It seems like one tactic now Blob or die mainly. Although that is oversimplifying the truth greatly.
Also it is the loss of identity other than just the server name. As it stands, there is no way to recruit onto our server. “Hey come join the guest server that will still offer you blob play because of the linking but no real home…” I have played GW2 since open Beta as well. LOVED the game, stopped playing for two years when life became crowded with other priorities (once your baby starts walking, you don’t get as much time to purely focus a game haha). I came back to my old friends and family in my guild and have been having a blast. We love the low tier playstyle, while at the same time wanting a little larger community to fill out WvW more. We are proud of what we built up. Nothing should be wrong with protecting that.

Now I truly cannot give you a point of view from the Top or middle tier. But from the low tier, merging T7 and T8 or even linking them to test it out in various temp mergings would have been perfect for us to at least try. I won’t pretent to tell you it would have been the perfect fix, but I surely would like to see if it would work.

Linking was done initially so that they could easily revert the changes. It would be a nightmare to fix if they had actually merged the servers only to find that it may have been a mistake. (this is paraphrasing from an Anet member we had in our ET WvW party Monday night)

I truly believe that mergers should happen. But a low tier should still be available for us who prefer the non-blob tactics of pitched battles. The one thing I personally HATE about this is hitting a tower or keep and this avoidance tactic of running when the call out of “Spotted” comes across chat. We are used to nice semi lengthy battles at the gates or walls. Not something that usually ends up with an easy roll over :-)

But I do truly understand and respect your point of view.

Let me make it perfectly clear.

THIS IS A MERGE.

The addition of the word “dynamic”, means that THE MERGE – CAN – BE – ADJUSTED – AS – NEEDED – TO – PRESERVE – POPULATION – BALANCE.

I’m sorry I know this sounds angry, it is only meant to be blunt because I am becoming frustrated.

They chose to name a “dynamic merge”, as “linking”, most likely to avoid “game is dying servers merged” panic.

Okay, but until then know that as long as you are keeping a WP contested so that you can duel you’re basically screwing everyone else who is actively trying to play the matchup. WPs are important… too important keep contested 24/7 because your bored and feel like dueling around with a few players. I don’t think it’s much to ask to back off far enough so that you are not contesting WPs…

Well as I already said, I don’t duel. However people normally don’t duel near SM npc’s on purpose lol. The problem is people sit on cannons shooting at them, or the wall archers end up shooting them with that long kitten range they have.

The main problem I have with duelers is that they tend to be very non caring about everyone else on the map. They will duel close to objectives and keep WPs contested. I’ve seen this happen around SMC where SMC WP stays contested b.c they keep fighting by guards/archers/etc.

No problem with dueling, but if you’re going to duel please go far away from keeps and SMC.

If ANET would remove the 1000’s of un-needed mobs in every good fighting space that wouldn’t happen.

The duels happen near SM because that’s the best open flat ground without mobs in the way. On old Alpine, duels happened in old ruins and at windmill for the same reasons.

edit- I forgot one reason and that’s because it’s in the center of the map. That is another reason windmill was often used because you could both go to enemy bl and “meet in the middle”

Revenant vs Thief

I can deal with shiro sword/sheild but it’s when they enter hammer, 3-4k aa sometimes so I cant even range them back with shortbow (stealthless s/d thief) I guess that’s just my issue for playing a harder weapon set. If I can open up with a good burst then I can normally win.

Every single attack on the hammer is slow and very telegraphed, you could dodge twice during the auto animation lol..

My advice to you after being wrecked by good thieves, and taking out others with my auto attacks (lol) is this- Take it slow and methodical, when on my thief I play against rev same as necro- slow,methodical,watch every animation, only engage at the right times with the right tools. You actually have the right set for the job (s/d), don’t try to range fight rev with hammer anyways, the game against hammer is avoid avoid avoid- burst with interupt during #5 since its extremely slow.

Untrue. Most duelers sit in one area not near any sentries, camps, or any other objectives. They don’t contribute to the team in any way, shape or form. Roamers on the other hand, go to objectives and take them and move on and take and take and take. They hardly stop unless to farm kills or kill duelers.

“Finally found a fight”…. ugh. Quit trying to sound noble or high and mighty. Go to sPvP or the Obsidian Sanctum Arena. You can duel there to your heart’s content.

You are trying to define roamer as “camp flipper”. meh you aren’t a roamer.

A roamer is roaming around constantly looking for PEOPLE to fight.

I have to disagree with you about your definition. Both are roamers since they “roam” but one kind care about flipping objective and giving info for his team while the other is a borderline parasite in the game mode.

Beside, your distinction is rather empty in the end when you know that flipping objective will bring ppl to oppose you anyway. The real problem isn’t to get ppl to fight. It’s to get away alive while doing it.

What I said was that a “Roamers” main priority is finding people to fight. This is literally how it has been defined since forever of this game.
Yes a roamer may flip a camp to attract enemies, or follow near a zerg, or hang outside enemy spawn, or intercept respawners between sm/keep or keep an eye on our third in ebg.. etc.

Doesn’t change the fact that the main driving motivation is looking for fights not turning objectives.

Fine, I can relate, but I don’t think someone doing the same while prioritizing objective, fighting what get in his way, should be called otherwise.

To me, a dueler was more the kind that was about fighting others first as his motivation but it’s semantic at this point I guess.

PS. to ANET, I really hate this new 300 sec CD on posting.

What people are failing to realize is that “duelers” don’t exist. They are just someone who is currently dueling. From my experience (with 7k hours played mostly in wvw) is that people who are dueling in eb, are taking a break from roaming/zerging/whatever else – not specifically in the map just to duel.

I’m no dueler but my guild is well known for it, I just like to watch them duel. But from my experience many dueling sessions that end up having a group of people at and last awhile, happen spontaneously. Like someone was roaming around, found a well played enemy, messaged them and had a duel. (party members watched, duel went a couple times, more people showed up, suddenly its fight club)

Hammer/Staff? Any Suggestions?

Hammer staff.. Mix of valk/cav/zerk weapons (and I use celest trinkets)

I have 2500ish power, 80ish crit chance, 204% crit dmg, 2700ish armor, 24kish hp. I am not even full ascended but these stats with hammer/staff are proving effective in pretty much all areas of WvW, for me.

I use Glint/Mallyx. I used to run Jalis before everyone Bandwagoned due to bug, but from my experience the mobility and condi resistance of mallyx wins out.

I camp Glint as much as I can because of the boons and situational skills (cc reveals etc).. The moment I’m facing heavy condi pressure, or need mobility that’s when I swap to Mallyx. Also, I tend to try and use up my Mallyx heal first and save infused light for either emergencies or a chance to go full ham.

I’d say that in a 1v1, and even more against a thief, staff is not only better than hammer as it is crucial to win.

Any decent thief is going to range your staff swap, and/or jump in and out if they aren’t using any ranged. Against lesser skilled thief, staff is amazing especially #5 which can potentially 1 shot them.

Speaking 1v1 only.

Good thief counters revenant just the same as they do necros, and this is because of his ability to only attack you with the right things at the right times. For example, dazing repeatedly when you swap to mallyx, immob you as soon as you in glint (no clears at all in this hero).. The second highest reasoning is the fact that as a Rev most of your attacks are super slow, something a Thief can take major advantage of with all their evades and faster attack. For example during hammer 3/5 a thief can not only easily dodge that in time but also hit you with several attacks during your animation.

In a group setting Rev wins out because of the sustain offered by body blocking and team heals while a thief will just get aoe’d to death.

I have to disagree with you about your definition. Both are roamers since they “roam” but one kind care about flipping objective and giving info for his team while the other is a borderline parasite in the game mode.

Beside, your distinction is rather empty in the end when you know that flipping objective will bring ppl to oppose you anyway. The real problem isn’t to get ppl to fight. It’s to get away alive while doing it.

What I said was that a “Roamers” main priority is finding people to fight. This is literally how it has been defined since forever of this game.
Yes a roamer may flip a camp to attract enemies, or follow near a zerg, or hang outside enemy spawn, or intercept respawners between sm/keep or keep an eye on our third in ebg.. etc.

Doesn’t change the fact that the main driving motivation is looking for fights not turning objectives.

Untrue. Most duelers sit in one area not near any sentries, camps, or any other objectives. They don’t contribute to the team in any way, shape or form. Roamers on the other hand, go to objectives and take them and move on and take and take and take. They hardly stop unless to farm kills or kill duelers.

“Finally found a fight”…. ugh. Quit trying to sound noble or high and mighty. Go to sPvP or the Obsidian Sanctum Arena. You can duel there to your heart’s content.

You are trying to define roamer as “camp flipper”. meh you aren’t a roamer.

A roamer is roaming around constantly looking for PEOPLE to fight.

Nah he specifically said that the line isn’t cast but a passive effect. If that wasn’t the case it wouldn’t be able to work as an identifier.

The way I imagine it working is that the caster gets the pulse no matter what, and allies would need to be on the line (or near the tablet) to get the pulse.

Im roaming and dueling for some years now here in Sfr. No one gives a kitten . Even commanders Just Let us duel while complete zerks passing by. Ofc in every zerk you have no brainers that want to interupt your duel. Thats always funny, cause those who interupt are the ones who getting powned. So in my experience. Only bad no skilled people complaining xD

Your experience means nothing, the system CHANGED,players are now in long queues to get into wvw to actually play WVW. The duelers are essentially glorified afkers as far as the game modes objective is concerned, your contributing nothing and preventing an actual contributing player from playing
Of course no one cared about duelers in EBG for the past 3 years, there was no reason to care, but now there is.
No queue? Duel all you want.
Large queue preventing people from playing legit? Go somewhere else and have some common courtesy for your fellow players.

A duelers spot in queue is no less important than a zergers. There is no requirement to join a group or do anything. Once I get in I can do whatever. I. Want. No matter what anyone says. I don’t even duel, I’m a small man havoc guy that often disrupts duel circles for lols and starting fights. But the amazing arrogance seen here from “real wvwers” is hilarious. Don’t want to wait in queue? Get here sooner stupid, I’m still playing with my slot in the BL.

I find it funny that people complain about duelist in the first place. The same people that duel are the ones that take enemy camps, disrupt reinforcement from getting to the main Zerg, kill the Dolly’s to prevent upgrades, and report on the position on enemy movement. So what if they stop by a forgotten corner of the map to do 1v1’s? They’re still serving an important role, much like the small group havoc teams that fight enemy zergs.
If anything people who want to Zerg need to go to EoTM because that was created for you. It’s all PvD, no PvP(which is what WvW is btw) and then you can be happy as cats in a field of catnip.

Pretty much this, nobody enters the maps with the sole purpose of dueling all day.

At first I hated the Desert Borderlands. Being that I don’t like the lag of EBG and always spent my time on Alpine at first I couldn’t wait for it back.

Since the latest patch with navigation changes and a newly revived population, I actually find myself really enjoying the new bl.

In fact now when I think about my fights and experiences over the years on Alpine compared to what types of options this new map offers, I’m pretty sure I like the DBL better.

Personally I still think they have a few issues, but I make this topic because I am curious how many others there are like me, whos opinions have changed.

Not really, you are either always or never in the line if the line is between the player and the tablet.

But except for the numbers the idea itself isn’t bad and could be implemented (without losing flavor). I just don’t see the advantages of this specific solution over others.

sorry i tend to keep stuff simple when i make suggestion otherwise people just instantly go no.

i meant like changing how tablet heal itself right now it currently pulse at set interval of 3 seconds around tablet itself what if tablet pulse became like druid line. where it become a solid line lighting up that interval become healing. making it so having tablet in awkward position would not force you have to move tablet to get healing you could also just move yourself to line up healing. save on upkeep cost.

The Desert BL’s are fun now that they took the PVE laser out if you want to stay a zergling and have blob fights stay on EB. If you want to do different tactics and have different challenges go to the Desert Boarder Lands

What exactly is “fun” about the map? I’m honestly asking.

All the terrain levels and paths, hills and valleys and secret passages all kinds of kitten. Places to hide, places to run, places to sneak attack.. Choke points for big fights, but always more ways to go.. It’s just so dynamic and full of choices.

Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed Alpine for 2 years or so but, I agree it becoming boring doing the same circle loop around the map over and over. Alpine barely has any decent sized spaces for open field fighting and Alpine is full of unused space.

I have been having a blast solo roaming and sub-10 havok on the bl with it actually being populated.

It feels a little big, I would like more WP or something. But the map is actually very fun and dynamic to fight in for all styles.

I don’t find it boring or “set and forget”. But I actually use my facets quite often as each one has a very specific and very good usefulness.

Facet of light-darkness-elements are for me “always on” as in I push them on as soon as I swap to Glint and I leave them on. All 3 of these consumes are some of our best skills.

I rarely use Facet of Strength and mostly just double tap it for some quick close range damage.

Chaos comes on when anticipating burst, but is mostly also used as a double tap. The chaotic release is simply amazing.

Finally Facet of Nature, I use this mostly to keep me covered with boons while I’m using Mallyx, in fact I pop it almost every time right before I swap. Sometimes I will use it to dump all my energy and get my boons a nice duration when I anticipate being forced to remain in Mallyx too long or something like that.

This is how I use it, and in WvW. I suspect that you are using it for PVE in which case it could be boring and I probably would only ever use Elemental Blast and Chaotic release.

If you can’t avoid the cannon while fighting, then don’t fight in the cannon range. It’s pretty easy, cannon user is stuck on a wall and has a finite range, you are not.

It appears that this reward track system has been carefully designed to provide zero rewards for a player with my style of play. I have 16 characters, play all of them equally, and participate in all game formats (PvE, PvP and WvW) equally. My activity level is currently about two hours of playtime per day which should make me an at least moderately active player. However, I am getting absolutely zero reward track progression at WvW because (a) my playtime is not continuous but consists of 10-15 minute sessions whenever I’m not otherwise occupied, and therefore (b) the only manageable approach is to play one character at a time through the different game formats where each format takes from a couple of minutes to less than ten minutes to complete the intended objectives. What this means is that my average “play intensity” in WvW never rises above the minimal threshold so that I could start acquiring reward track progress, and even in the case that the intensity might sometimes be high enough to qualify for reward progress I still wouldn’t have time (and it would be inconsiderate towards other players in T1 anyway) to leave the character twiddling her thumbs until the tick to collect the progress.

I have no issues with either PvE or PvP rewards, as they are linearly cumulative. However, this intensity based approach ensures zero rewards from WvW for me, and appears to be geared towards rewarding an obsessive-compulsive playstyle instead.

Playing more then 10-15 minutes at a time is obsessive compulsive? What world am I on?

ok let me be the first person to say I was wrong. Lots of opportunity for havoc here and there… and holy crap… the huge blob fighting was actually a crapload of fun! Tried it in the past and didn’t like it… things have changed I guess because it was a super blast!

I’ll figure out how to deal with the “identity crisis”.. in the meantime I’m actually having a lot more fun than I thought I would.. To all those people that said “back off and give it a chance”… yes.. that was a good idea…

It is refreshing to see another human who can admit when they were wrong these days. Kudos to you and I’m glad you are having fun and exploring new ideas, I am as well!

Need build for WvW solo roam

Revenant can have enough mobility and escape-ability while using Staff 5 and Unyiedling Anquish from Mallyx. Pain Absorbtion if you have time to pop it before attempting escape to prevent those clutch ranged immobs. Normally if I’m really in trouble I will pop my Infused light, swap to Mallyx PA, F2, Staff 5/3/4, UA —-varying combos of this depending on situation.

This is all opinion and works for me on a semi-tank Valk/Cav/Celest/zerk mix. I run hammer secondary because you NEED range in wvw.

Roaming? Right now roaming/small havoc groups are dead. This might change after everything stabilizes in the coming months and tweaks are made. But right now you’re going to be hard pressed to find anything other than latching on to a big blob and going with the flow sad as it may be.

I disagree. Part of roaming is following close to the zerg and picking off stragglers/tails. Part of roaming is intercepting people heading back to their zerg. Part of roaming is knowing where the enemy zergs are and being able to keep a safe distance while also taking out targets.

Roaming is more alive now then it has been in a long long time. Havok groups, also have way more opportunity now then in the last 2 years.
