You are the one one asking why not play something to win?
- I gave you a list of builds that can be played to win.
You said that why play a class that does not help your team.
- I gave you builds that help your team and can be played to win.
You cannot demand someone to give constructive talks when first of all you are running with a narrow minded approach
I can therefore conclude that this a L2P issue.
My narrow minded approach is one that says I want more than ok for conquest, more than veil golem rush, more for pve. Sure Mesmer is fun wouldn’t change why I play it but doesn’t change the problems. By saying l2p makes it seem like Mesmer is in a good place.
I am not a God of conquest but I can see problems when they exist.

Why play something not to win?? Why play a class that can not help your team. So many flawed points. We play to win no matter what level of play, so playing something sub par is emo.
the problem is we as a community need to stop cutting each other throats and band together. We only have a very limited amount of builds. Then people start saying l2p. Your response had it all. Doubting the only viable build then stating l2p.

This response is why we cannot have nice things. Shatter is viable followed by lockdown that when it works it is awesome yet no cast bars and stability destroys this. Roaming pu yet if we say pu build everyone curls their nose as if this trait is for poor players and has no place in gw2. Mantra suffers from obvious issues and a signet build is just that the passives are awful and the active is useful for certain game modes making using this extremely niche.
Well my only question is with no condition clears and low health seems you would melt from conditions. Avoiding is great but the claim to fighting 3 people conditiomns had to come. Being so slow trying to disengage while those conditions tick is another issue.

Where is Ross with that article of being a scrub. The whole Mesmer population has become brainwashed. You play to win not get to a certain point and say well that’s as high as a Mesmer can go. We need to break those mental constraints and voice the problems that we have.
As I constantly point out, anytime somebody tries to start a conversation about the weaknesses of the Mesmer class and the poor way in which the balance team have handled the class somebody always comes in to tell us stories about how they can take on entire enemy zergs or 1v1 thiefs with no traits.
Very tiring.
What’s even more tiring is having to constantly scrolls past these endless posts of self-flagellation. Which fill every classes’ forum, mind you. Because everyone is certain ANet treats them the worst.
Self-flagellation is an awesome word. But show me the representation in spvp high level, what does Mesmer do in wvw besides golem rush and veil, why is it not considered worthy for pve optimal runs? Self-flagellation is playing this class because we love it besides it faults.
Just a quick question if our viability is so good vs anyone why are we not represented in spvp? Why are we forced to solo roam or duel? If this was duel wars then we would be king!!! We do need help to bring us into all game modes Imo.
Reading this makes me ponder. The biggest problem is our lack of generating boons. The only option we have is the hated pu. But think about what it gives. Life giving boons. The problem is pu is tied to stealth so can’t be used in conquest mode. The other posts say consume plasma is an issue. But think what it does it lets the thief have access to boons. No wonder why they target us.

This x100. Crying about thieves when there are many Mesmer builds that handle them just fine, is a problem with individuals not the profession.

Yes you can build to counter another class’ build to win, not just thieves.The hard counter happens against Shatter Mesmers, or other zerk specs, you can play another spec if you get frustrated.
I for one would respec for my team.

Thanks for the free lesson. I will try and take those points and apply them, what then with the auto turn it off? Sadly the auto attack being clunky,slow, speed of the ball,the animation still needs addressing. Those features are great when they land that you speak of.

The block also needs to land, then you need to stay still no dodge roll to apply the block, the block is countered by enemy dodge rolling. The only thing left is the slow speed of the aa. Needs some speed love.
All skills in the game can be dodged, IIRC.

Just a quick test you can also. 3 scepter clones keep 3 torment on golem. 3 staff clones kept 9 bleeds 4 vulnerability and perma burn. This on a stationary target far from what happens in an active environment. Not factoring clones picking up other targets. The speed needs tweaking on the scepter. Was in power gear more condition duration just favors the staff more.
This response is for wvw only. I have been using scepter in a power build. The auto attack works better closer yet not as close as standing flailing around your sword. 2 is a mobile breather and the block creates a clone, the only other main hand option roots you in place with an evade. 3 hits harder than all sword skills, landing the channel is an issue but baiting or stealthed use helps. In wvw with our vast main hand options scepter is imo better than sword (wvw). But the speed of the aa delivery needs tweaking.

To be fair the Zerg has been asked to pvd a door. Played damage door as they are ramming golem whatever. The request does happen. I agree the damage is trivial but every little bit helps.
A build like that has it place in wvw as a roamer, although I would drop the toughness to 1200 and increase crit damage crit chance. Imo 1200 toughness is enough since using stealth as the primary defense along with the boons generated with pu. Also taking trait number 1 in domination to increase shatter damage along with 3 in chaos to shorten blink cooldown (blinking while stealthed to stay in gs to do damage) positioning.

The reason I stated pve is because is such a feat possible with players. I understand fear since it randomly controls your character for x seconds. But making a player move seems like hijacking the toon. If written can hack and allow others to use? In pve mobs are just ai.

Maybe they finally separating game modes. Taunt sounds prurely pve. The taunt causes creature to target the taunter.
The boons from pu is what allows Mesmer to survive along with the other options of being slippery. Running without it is possible but felt when facing multiple bad guys. Pu lets Mesmer generate those boons that we have no access to. Unless taking skills (aegis protection from signet) that kitten us far more than taking pu.
Regarding any build with PU in it my question is always “Can I achieve the same (or better) results without PU?”
The answer is no solo roaming like he was. Just happened to find guess what thieves!! Also when solo roaming coming across havoc groups is common.
Not to be beat a dead horse but using a pu build in a Zerg ball might be the problem. Like I said revamp sigils and build. Travel using pu when you take a tower/camp switch to a more dps build while in the Zerg ball. If you would die switch to pu to reach the Zerg.
well I’m a fan of travelers. Why I suggested build/sigil revamp. Open world and wvw the quality of life gained is priceless.
Yes travelers are pfft, yet running a sigil of speed instead of air or fire to increase spike damage must be mehhh.
Well still need to run to the Zerg. In all honesty the stat gains are minimally +/- by using traveler to another rune. The option should be look at build and use sigils to add burst. I run travelers in condition and power builds in wvw. Nothing is more valuable than speed in that arena.
Edit to post. Ie also shines when fighting around a circle so your clones can do their thing. The wvw nature means a more mobile fighting experience so IMO the extra shatters out weigh the extra bounce.
The reason for sword in wvw paired with pistol allows you to keep your opponent in the fight box. 3 staff clones with ie does apply pressure but IMO since this is a shatter build taking illusionary invigoration allows you to use all your shatters again. The amount of confusion plus torment followed with the new torch phant(more confusion) duelist adding covering bleeds creates a powerful combination. Stacking over 15 torment/confusion/bleeds with on swap poison from doom sigils is nasty.
For wvw since the fighting does not take place over a certain area I find the sword/pistol needed to combat runners. Once the enemy realizes what is going on pretty easy to disengage from a mesmer. Also traveler runes is what I use for wvw. Again helps run from objectives and help escape chase. Hate being a turtle when speed is needed to defend or escape.
I also think a mtd shatter is a very strong 1v1 build for sure. Even the best condition clear management toons will succumb to this build.
I have been playing with sword/pistol scepter/torch. Going 44006 lower torch cool down, condition duration and target drop help in wvw. IMO the biggest help is illusionary invigoration to shatter more often. The sword pistol weapon set allows for defense a root to land shatters and a stun to stop runners.
I have been running 04046. Sword/pistol scepter/torch with maim and illusionary invigoration. Without a doubt the best build for thieves I have played. Just let them close and shatter away. Even your distortion shatter effects them. So much torment and confusion they jump evade invis and then die. Life is much easier running this in wvw.
For fun try 44006 condition shatter trait maim. Very effective versus thieves, watch them jump around with confusion/torment to reappear downed.
Power pu is really fun and fast 446 take traits 1 9 in Dom 1 10 in dueling then experiment is chaos line but pick up pu. You burst with gs and shatter aggressively. This discusion has been beat in to death. Taking a trait should have no bearing on play style. Be aggressive and win. With all the food guard stacks ascended gear I have 2k power 60 crit chance and 214 damage. A bunker is just that need to play aggressively to win no matter what you trait. Plus you can chase with gs blink range and I slot stun signet, positioning along with stealth helps with conditions.
I agree the stats are easy enough to come by in wvw. With guard stacks ascended weapons and armor pushing 2k str 50 crit and 200 crit damage is easy. So at this point for wvw selecting for traits not raw stat points comes into play. The lack of might generating for a mesmer means might stacking to increase all forms of damage to end outnumbered fights faster doesn’t work. The pre pu nerf let us as mesmers have 3 of the best boons for outnumbered fights (allowed us the sustain aegis, protection, regeneration) plus the target drop. IMO pu still allows mesmers a better chance due to having a 1/5 chance to receive a boon that can mitigate damage from multiple people. Dodging is wonderful, with more than one person you need more than just dodging though.
Thanks Ross for a fun spin on things. On that note modified slightly to enjoy wvw. I read earlier posts so my changes are not intended to offend. 62024. Same dom traits, fury in dueling, menders purity, then compounding power, phantasmal haste. The condition cleanse helps with more going on. Again kudos really fun build.
That is pretty funny how the bolt from I warlock missed a stationary target. Not sure how much more proof is needed. The proof is in the pudding or their own skill update video lol.
So with incompetence in play. Just avoid thieves and Engies. Just bring a buddy or run away till you get help. Hence the moaning on why mesmer is not represented in this kind of game play.
In a perfect world but since the only pvp we have requires you to stand on a circle. Engies are very difficult.
The difference is trivial stat wise. The only option is what you want as a 6th bonus. I have tried a lot of runes. I liked nightmare since the fear caused the player to move but the lack of movement speed forces me back to travelers all the time.

Hello. Looks like something I tried running in wvw. Only difference is I chose to use pu more than rupts. So switched staff for sword/torch both are defensive type weapon set just melds with pu better. I also switched halting strike for gs cooldowns since mirror blade up close hurts and faster recharge time on all skills. Was fun like you mentioned a change of pace.
