Even then its not true support. It’s been stated that any dx12 capabilities are software based, as…… its still being developed.
So currently the units they stated will support some and possibly most features of dx12, but not all, and not as well as the hardware that’s actually designed to run it
Dx12 has also hardware limitations. Tahiti only has 2 effective ACE (Asynchronous Compute Engines) while Hawaii and Tonga have 8.
Also Nvidia is much more restricted than AMD. You can see some differences in the photo.
Wondering what exactly maxwell v2 is. From what i understood, the 970s should be able to emulate most of it, at least from what nvidia says. From what little i can find, i think the 970s are v2, or will be able to do so, and then the next set of cards released should be full HW support hopefully.
If even the 970’s are stuck under the regular section, that just gives me more reason to whine at nvidia and get a refund for both of these cards
Partial Dx12 support will be available on nVidia Fermi CPU and on and AMD GCN GPUs and on.
Problem throwing out model number ranges is both companies have a bad habit of rebadging old GPUs with the current GPU family even though they aren’t. And last I read the Fermi drivers weren’t quite working yet but that was a month or so ago.
And to be clear, 98% support isn’t 100% so it’s still partial in my book.

It’s still doing something for free that is an actual job that some people get paid to do.
If you enjoy beta testing, then great. But don’t act like it’s anything more than that. You’re not winning the lottery, it’s literally just an opportunity to do free labor for ANet that you might enjoy.
That’s why it’s so kitten frustrating seeing all this whining about not getting a portal… like, think for a second about why you’re so excited about beta testing. Why is that exciting at all? It’s not! But game developers have spent years perfecting their presentation of beta testing to make fans inexplicably infatuated with it, so they can get free testing from them. What’s the first thing you think about when ANet says “HoT Beta?” If what you’re envisioning is not a few hours of testing specific things / doing nothing beneficial to you while getting a slight sneak-peek of the expansion, you’ve been duped. It’s not going to blow your mind, nor will it be anywhere near ‘awesome.’. It’s a job, that someone could have been paid to do, and you’re doing it for free, because you think it’s going to be fun, probably more than it actually is.
Now, would I throw away a beta portal? No way! I do want to see what’s going on, and a few hours is a pretty small commitment. But kitten ed if I’m gonna throw a fit if I don’t have that opportunity.
Fun is subjective. I have fun alpha testing games sometimes. I often have to take breaks though, or be careful because after a certain extent, it can ruin my idea of the game, and cause me to not enjoy it so much later.
Starbound was a key example. I really enjoyed testing it, i dumped like 130hours in the first week and reported all the bugs and stuff, but, over a year and a half later, its still being worked on. the games changed so much, but my love for it went out the window until its finished because i can only replay content too much.
Other games i played alphas extensively, and those games are close to being released and i don’t enjoy it any less now. I love being one of those players who can help control where a game goes, and what needs to be fixed, and what’s unbalanced, etc.
intel i7 3.4GHz
Nvidia geforce 770 GTX 2GB
corsair 2X 4GB
no performance loss, update your PC…..Yes man, update your potato as fast as possible. Gtx 770 and some i7 3,4ghz probably from second generation lol. Nice museum over there.
You gave yourself a good advice, now to work.
this “museum” piece still outruns most you ppl’s PC’s by a mile, FPS is to me so fast i HAVE to use V-sync or i get tearing all the time.
do i have to mention ivy bridge maybe?Ivy bridge is actually quite old. But yeah you can be proud, that 3,4 ghz is op as well. Gtx 770 with his mighty 2gb of vram is scary too..
Sadly unlike you i have i5 4690k clocked to 4,6ghz and i want i can push it out to 4,9 without any problem.
Along with that msi gtx 970 clocked to 1500mhz, 16gb ram corsair vengeance 2100mhz. I should mention other stuff like samsung 850 pro and so on (i have few extras) but i dont think thats necessary. I wish ya good luck outrunning my pc.
Meanwhile we would like to see fps getting fixed.
I use the old Ivy Bridge.
I’m currently running ~5years old(little older probably) i7 3770k OC’ed to 4.2 stable,(24/7 usage). I have been able to get it to go to 4.6 while upping the vcore but it gets a bit hot, and would only do under a custom WCloop(using a CL currently).
Sli’d 970s at 1425mhz
Sasmsung pro evo 120
Asus z77 sabretooth
I get ~90fps on 4k during regular battles, drops down to 50-60 in heavy use will all models open
Pfff OP you only have 2x GTX 980 in two-way SLI? What a peasant. Real gamers play with 3x GTX 990 in three-way SLI at the very minimum!
8^)
#yolo #sweg
I think you mean 3x gtx titan X =D
I run sli 970’s for now. I’m sure by the time i need to upgrade for 4k there will be better hardware to handle it by then for cheaper than running Dual titans or dual 395×2′s
There would be a draw back of doing a gem based sub, it doesn’t really address why people may want a sub, but thats already been discussed.
Adding a gem based sub would just end up being a sub for gold. Since there is only a limited amount of stuff you can buy or possibly want to buy on the gem store. So people will just flood the exchange with gems. Which then in return would devaluate gems making them not as worth it to buy.
Bah. Stop using logic =P
In all seriousness i don’t mind paying a sub for a game, as long as i feel the continued payment is worth my money. I would rather pay a sub and have a game get updates and other things that make me enjoy playing it longer, as essentially i’m paying for my entertainment. If the game is free, but i don’t get much time out of it, then there is no value there.
If there was a game that required subs, that i stopped liking(like wow after several expansions) then i just stop playing it. It wasn’t the sub that made me hate the game, it was many other other things
Value is subjective, and opinion based, so there is no “sub is better, or f2p is better”. All we can argue currently are subjective opinions and our experiences/thoughts behind games of each type.
For me, its about the content and quality of the game. Price isn’t as big a deal.
For people that complain a sub is too much money, I am also willing to bet that you spend more on fast food than that. The psychology behind a sub is a different issue however.
For the record, you can now buy wow game time for in game gold. Bought 2 months worth for dirt cheap.
If 24K gold is cheap. Well when released Blizard set the initial price at 30K gold.
I got around 120k in 2months barely playing. Some of that was selling dungeon boe’s but even then the garrison makes a ton of money if you do it right, plus daily earnings for little effort.

so… i am thinking of getting this , advisable?

i have gone through 4 computers with asus build in and they simply lower the overall quality and constantly block the computer flow.
drivers that never work as intended, improper use of power flow, crashing all the time, shutting down for absolutely no reason and the list go’s on.ether go for MSI or ASROCK, they never fail and all the drivers are from the official chipset manufacture. (like the vid card, asus uses it’s own driver but is outdated all the time, i used an nvidia card and when i switched to MSI the card worked perfectly on the official driver of nvidia.)
i know there are ppl who swear with asus but i never had any good experience with them, i build my computers my self so if anything goes wrong i know how to detect the problem.
As someone who’s bought asus parts for years, asus is one of the top quality manufacturers and top quality service in the industry. I use nothing BUT asus. Just because you had a few bad parts does not mean the entire company is crap.
Companies sell MILLIONS of parts, and maybe one particular model just didn’t do well, yes that happens, but assuming an entire company is bad will only hurt you. Companies are not error free, and constantly make complex electronic parts i could never hope to fully understand, so by god if a few of them come out wrong in the millions upon millions that they sell, its understandable.
MSi is still an ok brand, azrock is.. ok but asus is still top of the line. Highly recommended

Few PERSONAL notes before from someone whose done this for a while.
Don;t get a 500 PSU. Always overshoot way ahead in case you want to add a second graphics card or change the parts out. New parts come out., stuff changes, your needs change. Graphics cards die, you switch to one with higher consumption etc. The cost to switch ahead is cheaper than switching after.
I have a z77 build similar to that, but even on a single card i ran a 750w. If you get the I series(hx750i) it comes with power and volt monitoring software to show you what power you;re actually drawing and using etc etc and is a great tool.
A side recommendation if you have the cash, 120gb SSD for the OS install. You’ll thank me later.. Worst case, try to find a hybrid HDD and run off that, the increase will be better still
Ram speed isn’t all that important at that level for what you do. If you;re spending more on your ram, you can drop the speed to like 1400-1600mhz and allocate the funds else.
Same with the i5. Unless you’re actually going to take advantage of the i7, the i5 will be plenty for gaming, and save you a bit to spend elsewhere.
IMPORTANT: Do your own cooling, and learn the different types(e.g: push pull) etc. Learn what your case can handle and cool appropriately.

I got a new video card, and one of the features of it is to superscale your resolution up ro 4 times of what it is. Since I already had a 4k monitor, susperscaling to 4k is pointless.
So I was wondering, would it be possible to go higher than 4k? Apparently you can, it appears the GTX 970 can support up to 7680×4320 and I took a screenshot of how it would look in Guild Wars 2:
It’s just scaled so yeah it can do it because it’s NVidia doing it, not gw2 itself, you can scale it as high as hardware allows
I do 4k dsr on a 1080p 40inch tv, and it lookes and runs great.
I get about 90-100fps playable at 4k on a non 4k monitor with sli’d 970’s.
I wonder what fps you get at 8k.. LOL

I really like the number of internet lawyers and activists that come out for these kinds of threads.
That’s because a lot of people think they’re untouchable and can do what they want without any sort of repercussion… even though they signed a contract that has told them that they need to behave in a certain way.
I am an advocate of educating people about the ToS… perhaps if people knew about their boundaries (and what they mean) they’d actually stay within them. Not everyone, mind you, but some. If that means that another player’s game experience is improved, that’s excellent.
Yeah, I agree on educating about the ToS. Especially on their loop hole policy of “if we, anet, find it offensive, you are banned without say”. So, hey! Go about walking on eggshells now!
That’s not a loophole. That’s covered under the “your account is not yours, its ours” clause in the ToS. That’s a part of any game, EVER. You do not own your account. All accounts are property of the company.
the real question is: do you want to sit 1-3 hours in LFG looking for healer and tank?
because this is exactly what happens in wow and other classic mmorpgs….
i certanly don’t want so called holy trinity
besides i don’t think you understand what impact it would have on classes that are squishy even if they go full tank (mesmers/thieves)…. if anet really focused more on tankiness we would see massive survival buffs to those classes which would lead to huge imbalance in wvw/pvp…
just because you want to equip some armor and afk at boss while spamming 1 and soaking up all dmg, doesn’t mean that everyone wants it too…
I played dps and my ques were never more than 20-30m at MOST even in lfr.
HUGE overstatement.
Also has nothing to do with holy trinity. And if you think a thief/Mesmer would be going tank.. then i’m not sure you understand the mechanics properly.
Thiefs have tons of dodge mechanics and evasion built in specifically because they’re dps only.
Mesmers have dodge, and clones to dash around and dodge dmg.
“ust because you want to equip some armor and afk at boss while spamming 1 and soaking up all dmg, doesn’t mean that everyone wants it too…”
Since when does a tank afk in wow? In WoW tanks are crucial. They hold aggro, and keep the bosses and mobs from wiping the team. they have to learn to rotate cooldowns, rotate aggro, position the bosses in phases and much more.
it really depends on dungeon, it is already hard to find people to run lv 50 fractals for example… even now
and there were indeed times when it took really long to get a tank or healing for dungeon run in wow….i personally sat an hour sometimes as dps….
not to mention that wow actually always had holy trinity so people were at least prepared… what do you think will happen to gw2 if anet suddely expected people to tank encounters… where majority don’t run tanks/healers?thieves have as many dodges as any other class unless they specifically trait/build for it which means they have to drop a lot of dmg for it…. why would i run thief then if i could run warrior, be tanky and still dish out a lot of dmg?
clones don’t stop aoe dmg…. also isn’t this thread specifically about making dodges less viable? why do you bring up thief/mesmer dodge if it won’t be as viable? pointless isn’kitten
and please, don’t tell me that tanking in wow isn’t brainless; i had my share of playing blood dk in raids/dungeons~ even in encounters with difficult mechanics it is still a lot up to gear you are wearing and maybe pressing CD…. don’t even make me start on dungeons…..
Its apparent you didn’t read the post that i replied to then, which if you had spent 2 seconds doing so your question would be answered. Also, playing probably what amounts to the easiest self healing tank in the game since release, in normal content not at a challenging pace, would be your problem. Unless you were doing mythic content right away(which i doubt you were as there were not many people for a while)
And if you think a thief/Mesmer would be going tank.. then i’m not sure you understand the mechanics properly.

Probably off topic and apropos of nothing, but if GW2 had the trinity and a group was looking for a tank, it could do much worse than adding a thief. A sw/pistol thief is the best face-tanking class that I have played in GW2. Pistol whip ftw.
This is only feasible due to the fact that all the PVE here is predictable, dodgeable, or evadeable making it easy to avoid almost all damage.
You couldn’t do that in WoW I mean the game is how it is, there’s no changing that, but it still doesn’t change that a lot of the stats in game are useless because of this

In other games like WoW, there are required classes for fights and dungeons, raids, etc.
No matter how wow plays, ALL roles get a piece of the pie.
Here, everyone goes zerker, because its what’s best, but at least in WoW, you can BE a tank, and that’s a good thing.
In gw2 if you’re a tank, it just “slows the team down”
Condition builds(Like dots builds in WoW), aren’t effective here. Thus is only power zerker builds.
I want to see variation increased as a whole in gw2, so that way other roles are more accepted, and useful.
The way to fix this is…. to fix what makes zerker so viable. And dodging/ boss attacks are part of that.
there arent tanks in gw2 and thats why a player who wants to roleplay a tank will slow everything down.
and everyone is supporting each other. every single meta build is a support build.Exactly my point. Why even offer build diversity at this point?

You’re trying to fix an issue with inefficacy of holy trinity roles in a game that not only does not have them, but does not use a normal aggro table to even begin to support roles.
Guild wars 2 doesnt need tanks. you can be support just as well by being a decent guardian. The other specs are to compensate for builds that lack mobility or deal certain damages.
You CAN, but why? There’s literally no reason to. If you can dodge everything, go glass cannon and do everything exactly the same, why is there any reason to do anything else?
It has nothing to do with holy trinity, so that’s an invalid point. Please reread my comment. It has to do with offering different stats, and builds, and not having them be useful.
You have a game that offers build variability, with no way to support them, or make them viable. Having a better aggro table would be a good start.
In other games there’s a reason to be a tank, a reason to be ranged dps, a reason to etc. Here you get none of that. I understand how it CURRENTLY works, i just would like to see some change.
Now note i never said it SHOULD be required, or any of that, so please look at my point again.
?
But the builds are viable.
You can use whatever the hell you want in terms of gear, and if your build can make the best of it, it works.
Just because it’s viable does not mean it will be the best at doing everything, or even filling a requirement for a specific game mode.
I’m not sure I understand. Of course you arent asking for enforced roles; but are you asking instead for a system rework in which it doesn’t matter (or perhaps matters less re: damage) which stats you build with, in order to make all of the gear equally optimal in every situation?
Not equally optimal either, just MORE so than they are now. There’s such a big gap that now we have the zerker meta, and there’s no reason to go anything else. Yes meta’s form, yes metas are what;s optimal, but metas can change, and exist for a reason.
More along the lines of what tbone said.

Thanks for this thread. I need a break from all the stupidity people are throwing out there today. It’s beyond ridiculous. There’s more whine here than when they introduced upgrade stones into Heroes of the Storm alpha, and that was a legitimate issue
@Pax,
why do you have your PCs in the attic? Genuinely curious.
Due to the rest it provides me while gaming and the DOG…
The dog doesn’t like the attic. He’s sweet but way madder then me, and I’m madder then the Mad Hatter…
Put a nice picture with this. I also have other pictures portraying him sleeping “starfish”, but I think they’d be removed due to indecent exposure… He’s 6 now but this was made roughly when gw2 launched I guess.. so about 3,5 yrs old at the time only difference is I get more white hairs now on the floor and less brown, but the amount of mixture is the same… He has hair for everything, if you have black clothes: white hair, if you wear white: brown hair, if you are smart and wear brown and white he just comes over and drivels all over your pants, it really doens’t matter…When you buy one you know you need to accept he looks good and you are the new hair collector….
Trust me: you do not want a shedding Shorthaired German Pointer anywhere near any of your hardware. We found hair everywhere. Dust proof?: hair inside!
He wrecked 2 DVD players by just living with us, and I clean daily, during spring and fall shedding at least 2 times daily to make sure the hairs are gone, and I never ever seem to succeed though…That is why my PC is in the attic.
I’m sure you know about this, but my PC is literally 99% dust free because offff….
Dust filters. Buy yourself a decent case with good air flow, and a lot of cases come with built in filters, or there’s like 2-3 Uk sites that sell dust filters for popular cases like NZXT.
For the record i use a NZXT H440, and it comes with 2 filters by itself. Using proper air flow management, i havent had any dust issues outside of having to quickly power blow the back where the heat flows out for a couple seconds.
I have a husky/shiba inu mix and she she’s quite a bit too, but i havent found any hair.. yet. You probably need a case that’s designed for dust proof design etc.
I noticed you’re using a monster size Air cooler too. Try swapping to like the corsair h100i closed loop cooler. I rarely have to run the fans up, and my radiators been spot clean for a good 6months now. i used to have a noctua dh14 but those push a ton of air and figured that was part of my problem as well.
Another issue i had was mine was close to the floor, so i lifted it on its own magical stand(aka my minifridge) and lifes been great

I find that tearing (even minor) creates far larger impact on my gaming experience than the difference between 60 and 90 FPS (which I highly doubt I could even tell apart in a double blind test).
you won’t notice 60-90. 120 is noticeable by most though.
Well… This is in open field while on the move, not in a WvW battle..
The second is in combat due to some ghosts popping up when I wanted to make my picture. All Plains of Ashford…
FPS will drop significantly when on world bosses or on wvw battles… so this is just to show it is possible to get good Fps.
I’m curious what your setup is.
I have a decent rig that maxes everything, but for you to get 90fpson 4k you must have some other good stuff in there.
Either that or the whole “cpu” thing is debunked as far as regular play goes(cpu only comes into effect really during larger engagements), and maybe your graphics cards are handling the scenery at that point at 4k.
I know with my 3770k and a gtx 970 i barely get 45fps with everything maxed in combat at 4k. I am, however using sweet FX, so im sure thats dropping me 10-20fps at 4k as well, but I’m wondering if i should sli another 970.
4k for a lot of games is still not a viable solution unless you run 2 gtx titan x’s or 2 r295’s currently(At least that are graphic reliant)

1 remark though: Fighting spawns in a map doesn’t cause to much FPS drop,
generally it is only when encountering other players which seems to cause a lot of FPS drop…My PC is on the attic, where we have all PC’s ( my wifes old Q6600, and my old dual opteron 2376) it can get very hot in the summer with ambient going easily over 27 celsius, so I do not OC too much, as good OC-ing requires a stable ambient temp. if all PC’s are running thay add a lot to the ambient temperature, up to outside temperatures… Mid summer I only game in the morning and the evenings. (something with not completely wanting to no-life my life, PC’s will be off during the day. )
Hope this is all the info you need. During the summer my PC will be set to throttle, so clock will be lower.
AH i actually took a look there, 384 bit bus vs the 256 of the 970. Plus the sli. that’s probably where you’re getting the good performance at at least on 4k. At 1080p we probably won’t see too much of a difference.
I think i’m still going going to sli them. I want to play starbound and terraria and terraria otherworld at 4k on my 40’.
I’m with you OP, just earlier to day, i was at mega destroyer. and the chat turned into a sexual Item use. and just yesterday, they started talking about ferguson..you already know how bad the chat turned after that.
That’s you disliking what was being talked about. Big difference between that and verbal abuse. That’s what the mute button is for.
This is what happens to the community when certain decisions cause the majority of players to leave the game, you’re left with the so called elite 1% that love to do these kinds of things while they are playing. Harassment is in their twisted psyche and no you’re not alone about it being troublesome.
We tried to warn folks that it would degenerate into this but no one listened. You can see posts about it that I participated in years ago describing this very thing would happen to the community in the end. It started however with kicking certain classes from dungeons and degenerated from there.
Sadly nothing can be done about it at this point without causing more damage I suspect.
That’s funny, I seem to recall that the rest of the gw2 community is not the 1% elite. This has nothing to do with the game as much as it does its players. No one game can control all of its players. That’s what block/report/mute functions are for. If someone’s truly doing something that’s report/ban worthy, action will be taken upon.
If its something else like, a disagreement about the topic, you don’t like what you’re hearing, etc, that’s a personal preference.
As for majority of players leaving? I’m curious where you get that info from, as i doubt that’s the case by far
ok this is my actual makeup reply :
4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 Processor?
16GB Memory
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX™ Titan Z graphics with 24GB total (2x 12GB) GDDR5“Performance and design highlighted in brilliant form. Accept nothing less than perfection with Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX™ Titan Z GPUs. Standard with Windows 8.1.” but i truly dislike using windows 8 so that was just a quote from the Alienware site, but it is also listing the Titan Z as being insane $$-wise so I’ll leave the link to the comparison which is primarily about the GPUs so this is just to leave you the comparison for you to choose on the GPU Selection.
I hope you’re playing in 4k on everything you do, otherwise that was a huge waste
As long as you keep it one key press one action you fine. Now if you set it up to hold done the button and keep swinging that is not allowed because that is a repeatable action.
When I play my engenier I have my one skill set to left ckilck and toss grenades like crazy.
This doesnt even need to happen as you set your 1 attack to autocast.
Though realistically even with lag you only need to press it once, if you’re having issue with that… there’s plenty of solutions in place.
(edited by edgarallanpwn.8739)
I have an i7 3770k oced to 4.6 stable; with a gtx 970 oced to 1500mhz; and i still barely get 110fps with 1080p.
I barely get 40-50 at 4k on a single monitor in normal areas
, while other games work great
I have exactly the same setup as you though I OCed my 3770k to 4,5Ghz stable and I get noticeably less FPS than you. How is that possible?
In LA I usually sit around 60FPS with 1080p. In dungeons and low-pop zones I’ll usually get double that (120FPS) while during world bosses I get only a third of that (20FPS on average).
I wonder why it is that my performance is less than yours while logically it shouldn’t be. Could it be because I’m running the game in windowed fullscreen or because I run a dual-monitor setup and have my browser and teamspeak open on the 2nd monitor?
Windowed fullscreen.
It has to run settings within windows and anything else at the same time in “windowed” mode so at the same resolution it will ALWAYS be worse by some margin.
Fullscreen allows direct x to have full control and divert all of the graphics attention to it as a priority allowing it to function better. Lower end games won’t see much of a drop, but high graphics games like this, or far cry, etc, you’ll see a noticeable dip. That being said unless you’re using 12-hz monitors, i typically lock my fps to 60 fps anyways
You CHOOSE to take offense to ‘vulgar’ language.
Nobody chooses to take offence. People DO choose to be offensive though.
Partially right. People do choose to be offensive, of course, but the recipients too choose to be offended. I choose not to be offended. It is literally that simple.
Go ahead, try me. Send me a private message and say the most horrific, offensive, vile, politically incorrect thing you can come up with. No matter WHAT you say, it will have no effect on me.
I will not report you. I will not send that mail to ArenaNet. I will not seek you out to do you harm, and I will not even respond with anything offensive (even though I’m sure I easily could offend you). I’ve got popcorn ready.
Thank you for the offer, but I’m not that silly!
I think you’re missing the point. What you are saying is that if someone is called a certain derogatory name, that it is the victim’s fault that they were hurt. This is not true.
If for instance, someone was called a racial slur and they were hurt by it. It is the offender’s fault, not the victims that they were hurt.
So I’m sorry, but it is not the victim’s fault that they are offended, but the offender. People do not choose to be offended any more than someone chooses to have their nose broken by an unprovoked attack.
I’m glad that you can rise above feeling hurt by bad words, that’s good by all means. But people who aren’t as thick skinned as you are not at all at fault.
You CHOOSE to take offense to ‘vulgar’ language.

You’re talking about direct attacks. IN that specific case, that’s a verbal attack, and obviously in abuse.
Most of these situations, and what OP is talking about is in map chat, directed at nobody in particular, and just general conversation that OP disliked.
As much as I’m against people being rude, I’m the same way. Being racist, telling me to kill myself, insulting me, none of that does anything to me. I;m not offended nor do i care. I’ll report for the sake that someone else doesn’t have to deal with that person hopefully, but what I WONT do, is watch my language about certain other things if its just talk.
It’s also NOT my problem if someone overhears something i say and is offended by my opinion(obviously one not racist, derogatory, insultive, etc), or something i said, or is not in agreement with it. If you don’t like it, block me and move on.
I personally feel a lot of younger kids were sheltered more, and grew up without the thick skin that many of us earned as we dealt with things. That’s fine and what not, but ill be kitten ed if i’m going to change my lifestyle because someone might not be ok with what i say(Again, not OBVIOUSLY offensive)
You CHOOSE to take offense to ‘vulgar’ language.
Nobody chooses to take offence. People DO choose to be offensive though.
Wrong. What’s offensive is subjective. What’s offensive to you probably isn’t offensive to me. Thus, what is said to you by YOUR logic, might make someone offensive to you, but not offensive to me. Thus, it’s not necessarily a choice. Some could purposefully act offensive by knowing what might offend you, but that’s a specific situation, and you provided a generalization.
Both statements are wrong, the act of being offended is subjective based upon personal views+biases.

In my opinion, this game has one of the worst communities I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe not as bad as diablo 2 but still… pretty bad especially in sPvP and here on the forums.
I have to agree. The community as a whole has soured to the point I keep Say and Map chat off. The swearing filter will block certain words, however there’s been a tidalwave of immaturity, racism, sexism and homophobia that’s made me question why I still play this game. It’s not just in the cities and starter maps. Its in meta-events, dungeons and world bosses.
I take it you;re never going to find any game fun. Its the people not the game, and i rarely hear a conversation in any game except LoL get bad enough that i really needed to report someone.
I recent had someone being rude to new players, and he was raging in map chat, and i jested at his inability to spell, so he told me to kill myself. I obviously took no heed, but still reported because its not cool, but since i started thats it.
If you;re consistently around this type of activity, maybe we need to look at other things..
You do know that SW is not about chest farming, but doing events leading up to the main event, right?
Are you sure? Because i am certain it is about chest farming, and skipping most of the events before Breach by joining a right instance.
That’s why YOU go to silverwastes, not what silverwastes if about.
Anyone happens to catch a screenshot of their character bugging out in a funny way? Post here!
I was pvping one day, and for some reason i glitched out, and was stuck in the same pose for the entire match. I could cast spells and do everything, but i looked like this the entire time… we all had a good laugh that day
OH kitten i didnt even realize that.. when it can’t apply colors, it just applied my last used color, not the base one.
Thats why i didnt think of that.
Welll… THAT WORKS OUT.. because i actually want pyre as my color, and i didnt have the gold to spend on it.
Well im glad thats sorted out, thanks for that info! I just confirmed that was the case too
Im so used to changing skins and it applying the new colors automatically that didnt even come to mind

Some of what you see depends on the game mode you play, some of it depends on your home world, and some on your own perceptions.
/Report people for ‘verbal abuse’ who are excessively cussing, being vulgar, personally attacking others. /block people who are annoying you for whatever reason.
99% of the time, I find GW2’s community to be awesome: helpful, entertaining, insightful. 1% of the time or less, there are obnoxious jerks who seem only to be happy when others are miserable. I block ’em and move on.
Verbal abuse is directed at a particular person. Kind of like how your actions would be considered abusing the report function.
You hearing something you don’t want to hear is not verbal abuse. Me cussing you out and insulting you is verbal abuse.
Considering there’s nothing in the ToS or Rules of Conduct that says people can’t talk about any of this, maybe you could just block individual users? A feel a bit of maturity goes a long way.
People can talk about what they want to talk about, unless they’re specifically mentioning, attacking, or whispering you abou it, i don’t see any TOS breach or Rules of conduct breach.
Somehow i was able to glitch some dyes. I have NO CLUE how it happened, but i was looking through locked dyes on my character tab for a better orange for my theme, and i was browsing through molten, butter, pyre etc.
This is showing OUTSIDE of the character dye tab, outside of the preview window.
Somehow its letting me use the pyre dye, even though I have not purchased it. It does not show the lock icon, but ONLY on 2 of my armor pieces, and only a single dye channel.
It is the bottom left dye channel, on both my Baelfire chest and legs, with carapace chest and legs re skinned over them.
I mean i’m glad to save the 160g or w/e on the pyre dye, but i dont think this is how its supposed to work lol
I confirmed with another player the pyre dye was showing to him as well.
Screenshot of the dye bug and our conversation
I logged out and back in and the color stayed
But not charging people certainly leads to less.
What an unlimited item does is reduce the potential income from players who currently do not have a problem spending gems on bulk charge purchases.
Let say that your 2000 gem unlimited charges which is around the same cost as 80 or so charges. It would only be a good deal if you burn through more than 80 bought charges in the life of your account. It would certainly be snapped up by the players who can drop $50, $100 or more a year on gems. That’s the future income you are losing with your $20 item because once a player buys gem shop armor, outfit, slots, etc. Items with no or minimal repeat sales, what’s left are items like keys, charges, boosts, and if you use a lot of keys, you would have boosts up the wazoo so lets remove them from the repeat sale list. And with the uproar over keys being a bad deal if you only care about ticket skins that leave transmutation charges as the repeat sale item.
none of this matters if everyone everyone is buying charges with gems converted from in game gold… thats the piece you are ignoring that people have said too… if they;re using the conversions system, anet makes 0 profit, so any change is better than nothing.
Lets also keep in mind the tons of players who say they DONT pay for gems at ALL, and would still pay for the stone, despite not needed any charges, just for the ease of mind. Theres multiple points that you ignored that have been brought up to counter your arguments
there’s also the 3rd point that so many people have the free charges and don’t use them, because they never run out, or they’re scared to use them all, and don’t even buy them regardless. There’s also the crown who just used gold to buy gems, to buy charges, which still nets anet 0 revenue
What?
If I buy 800 gems with gold, I am buying them from a Player who bought them with Cash. Anet still made $10. Period.
Buying Gems with gold is not manufacturing gems out of thin air “depriving” anet of profit. That would be idiotic and there would be no gem to gold conversion if that was the case.Every. Single. Gem. in the game is from a cash purchase, period. Every single one.
It doesn’t matter if I fork out my credit card, or farm for a few days and convert the gold, SOMEONE bought those gems and Anet makes money.
Corrrect… but only the people who bought gems with cash…. actually generated revenue.. just because you think your gem has value due to the inshore exchange… doesn’t actually generate MORE revenue, you’re just supplying your gems with a value.
You just countered yourself in the same paragraph, AND agreed with me.
That’s my WHOLE POINT, is that people using gold to gem conversion are not creating revenue. The people who pay CASH are.
How simple is this to figure out? Remove cash payments. Now where is anets revenue from the gem shop? there is none.
Just because you want to assign your gem’s a “cash value”, the fact stands they have no value until SOMEONE with CASH buys gems. Someone has to give anet that money, and its not the players converting gold to gems.
So saying people who user the conversion system are not generating revenue, is indeed a TRUE statement. You can value your gems at 10$, yes, but that is not new profits above the original sale. You did not give anet that profit, and you are not making them more money. You are merely holding 10$ WORTH of gems. Not generating 10$ profit.
Two COMPLETELY different things.
How well does a GTX 970 perform for GW2? I’ve also acquired an i5 4440, and 8GB RAM, but I target my question to the graphics card specifically.
Works fine for me. With my setup i hit ~110fps in normal combat; 45 in boss trains with everything maxed, 40-50 in 4k in normal situations
You;re assuming that regular charges would go away, and destroy that and nobody has mentioned that. We’re merely talking about the addition of an extra item. And with its relatively high item price, it most likely would be one that people would actually have to drop cash to get enough gems for, where as low amounts of charges don’t cost that many gems.
For the record, 2k gems was something like 300+gold under normal rates(when not spiking)
I know exactly how the system works, and charges are not the only source of gem usage by far. there many other gem items i’m sure people are buying from any source(whether conversion or cash).
As i stated before most people in this thread have way too many charges to begin with and aren’t even buying them. If that’s the case with a permanent item addition, you wouldn’t see too much fluctuation as it would add both cash purchases, and conversions as well. You also forgot about increases due to inflation and increased ability to farm gold than before, and a few other factors which affect the system as a whole, as opposed to the one item addition this discussion is about.
You can try to use the exchange to say that, but in the end what matters to anet is how much real$ comes in. If the market crashes, that can be fixed.
What never changes, is how much gems you get for x$. The item that they actually make income on.
Again the only reason this problem exists is anet gives the ability to have that conversion, which most other games don’t. At the same time, other games are purely cash based on their micro store, and function fine, while making plenty of profits. Most of these are f2p games as well.I already explained multiple times in previous posts how this affects a certain group but repeating myself over and over isn’t going to make people pay attention to it.

Thank you for all the replies. It seems like I’m going to need a CPU and a GPU upgrade to get a constant 60+fps. Any recommendations on the best for the price would be welcome.
I would wait.
there isnt a wothwhile upgrade past 3770k
Not for a while =D Mines still going strong, and with the new iterations, unless you’re building a new PC, or are just an enthusiast who upgrades often, theres no reason to upgrade.
dont know what to say
ivy bridge overclock is pretty competitive.
Intel and AMD are having lots of issues making faster chips.
They are hitting the inevitable CPU wall. transistors can only get so small before the spaces between them disappear, unless new technology evolves or comes out.
At this point, CPU’s are not really getting faster, they are simply getting more efficient. If you look at the i7 3370k to the newest generation, they realistically hit the same clock speeds, bu the differences are:
Newer cpu;s with more transistors require less power
They’re more efficient and dont require OC, or as much oc to hi the same clocks
They might add more l3 cache or other things in small amounts
But the differences aren’t enough for someone with a 3770k to switch to the new haswell E models, unless you have a reason to upgrade.
This might include using new features implemented on the newer motherboards that weren’t available on the z77 boards, but if you really need those features, chances are you’re more of an enthusiast who would change their stuff often anyways

Its funny that so many people say an unlimited stone is evil! Then immediately after say oh and I have a TON of extra FREE stones just sitting around that anet gave me…
I guess i just don’t understand why this discussion is relevant to these people in this case? If you don’t want one then great, if you don’t need one then great. But that would also put you in the category of not buying normal charges either…. so what are you complaining about?
I guess I just find it ironic. (not trying to dis anyone or anything, just found it funny)
The problem with a lot of people too, is that they don;t realize that every other game does things normally. The only reason any of this is POSSIBLY a discussion is because anet offers gem store items for in game gold. Most other games don’t do this.
Thats fine if thats how they want to do this, but this hurts people paying with cash, by forcing them to pay more, where as in most “dlc/ microtransaction” purchases, cash users compared to non cash spenders have no difference because its paid only.
We have a lot that we got free because we don’t feel compelled to use them or realize that we should use these sparingly unless we will be forced to buy more.
But we do understand that for those who do transmute frequently, that this is a source of income that ANet wishes to tap, otherwise we would be able to transmute freely from day one.
Pretty sure they know how many charges are bought by each player for actual gems (not the occasional free one they toss out there). And if they did offer an unlimited transmutation device, it would be price beyond the 2 or even 3 standard deviation amount of charges a single player had bought. It would not surprise me if it cost 8,000 gems or more. Certainly not at the lowball prices that are being tossed around here.
The data i want to know from this, is how much actual REVENUE are they making? People are saying they bought charges, but you can buy gems with in game gold, and that makes anet 0$. Squat.
I want to know how many people are actually paying CASH for gems, then buying charges with it. With as many people stating theyre so easy to get or that they buy them, my bet is that they’re converting in game gold to gems to buy them, and not using actual CASH

this is bullkitten
I’ve already posted about burst sales and constant income. You WANT transmutation to be free while this is only cosmetic service with 0 gameplay value. Additional services should be for additional money.Nope, not bullkitten in the least. Charging players to change their clothing appearance is bad from both ends: It sucks as a user experience, and it cuts down on the money ArenaNet could be making from people who like to tinker with their appearances. Making changing clothes require a resource that has to be purchased from the cash shop prevents people who like buying clothes from spending money, because there’s no value in it. The whole “burst spending” thing is garbage. While a handful of people might be willing to do that, those same people will still spend money on things like more clothes and additional “set” slots, because they’re obviously going to buy clothes related stuff anyway, and meanwhile, you’ll have the business of all the people who would have bought clothes in the past but never did, because they’d have to continue paying to use what they’d already purchased. Providing players with clothes that are freely usable once obtained gets them to spend more. Simple. Elegant. 100% true. And most games with a cosmetic wardrobe system have realized this and are capitalizing on it beautifully. Until GW2 does, its cosmetic skin system is going to continue to be sub-par, both from a player enjoyment and from a profitability perspective.
That’s exactly my through process.
Sadly, too many people who are against change want to use subpar arguments such as “it used to be worse” or “it’s ok now”, all which hold no validity as to why it cannot be improved now.
Yeah, outfits are terrible idea and I hope they will be scrapped. They lack of customization. It is fair to support company for good ideas. outfits aren’t anywhere near a good idea
The idea that transmutation charges or outfits will EVER be scrapped is absurd. There existence in the game provides options and harms nobody (nor keeps anyone from playing the game).
May I suggest you put your efforts into changing something that actually harms the game or does NOT provide options to all players?
(Now advocating LESS Outfits and more armors (not an equal resource effort I may add) is fine, but suggesting that Outfits be eliminated from the game is just silly….ask for something that has a possibility of happening).
Anything is possible really. Whether it will happen or not is another story. it all depends on Anet, and Anet may not make a decision or make any changes until we speak up about it, which the point of threads. If its a repeat issue, that could be amde better, why let it die? Voice the opinion.
These are forums, and made exactly for that purpose.
Everything in this game is zerg. Go in, zerg it to death, get out. There are no strategies or support rolls… just zerg, zerg, zerg. A lack of strategies, other than zerging, leads me to believe no one in this game knows anything about strategies or support rolls. Which is one of, at least, half a dozen reasons I prefer to play solo. I stay away from pvp, wvw, and any content not meant to be solo’d. It gets tedious and boring to always zerg everything instead of using the brains that we were supposed to be born with.
I am so sorry this happened to you. Having been there, done that, I fully empathize with you.
Sure, especially fractals and dungeons (the topic of this thread) are pure zerg!
And you can always solo pve and wvw, pvp not so much but also possible for a bit at least – you just think that everything in this game is “zerg”, I don’t blame you, a lot of people do.
It’s never been JUST zerg, its just that zerg is the MOST EFFICIENT.
Key difference.
If it’s a succesful way for them, why should they change it?
If you dont want to spend transmutation charges for looks buy outfits only, this is why they were created.I am changing my skins every few days. because this system is fair for players it is their right to be paid fo additional service. However they are kind enough to give us a very easy way to obtain charges for free in the game. This is fair! This is good! This is how other companies should work.
Other companies DO work this way, without having another item gate, or additional charges. The difference being is that they offer items available normally for cash only by other companies, for in game currency converted to gems.
I am used to most other types similar to that. I have no issue supporting companies, but because of that I typically expect to use items when i want because i have paid for it. And that’s normally what happens. What would need to change, idk, but many other people have expressed the same concerns.
In a business world, those people using the ingame conversion is not making anet profits, until they spend cash. They way they have it setup now, actually starts to alienate those who spend cash, from those who have unlimited time to farm for gold and charges etc. In this scenario, buyers are forced to pay more(if time is the issue), where in a normal scenario, both sides would be equal because everyone would be paying for them.

In a game with such an emphasis on cosmetics, opening up the wardrobe is always a positive feature.
why
It lets you try more skins with less regret. Cant tell you how many times I haven’t got/tried a new skin that looked alright just because I didn’t want to regret it the next day and have to grind for an hour to change my look back. This is under the assumption of 10 minutes per transmute and I changed my entire armor look (which new looks tend to need).
Lol. Yah. I changed the gloves and chest on a char just last night. It looks good but now I’m having second thought…..To recoup those T charges used and the ones I’m thinking of using to try again, I guess I can do PvP dailies for 8 days or make a brand new char and run 4 cities or wait 56 days to get my login T charges. But whatever I do, it’s a cost in time and effort to get back what I semi-frivolously spent. And that’s where I would love to have a Unlimited T stone.
Note that I didn’t say that I would buy single use charges.
That’s exactly how i feel. I love changing my outfit. And with my increasingly limited time, i don’t exactly have all the time in the world to farm gold, or charges, and I’d like to be able to change to what i want, when i want. Especially if i’ve payed real cash $ to support anet.
I feel none of this would ever be an issue if they didn’t have a way to trade gold or gems tbh, since that;s how ever other micro transaction store works, and most companies are successful on that alone.
The problem with the poll is that “No” includes all the people who would never buy skins, either way.
You really need more answers.
For example:
1. I am someone who buys skins, but would buy more of them if they were made unlimited use.
2. I am someone who buys skins and making them unlimited use would NOT increase the number I buy.
3. I am someone who doesn’t currently buy skins, but I would start buying them if they were made unlimited use.
4. I am someone who doesn’t currently buy skins and making them unlimited use would NOT make me start buying them.
Something like that.
Yeah i feel this would help out. Its a bit late for that though unfortunately as this thread has gotten a lot of views already and im not sure how much longer it will last. Thanks for helping anyways
I have all gemstore armor skins. So if they are not releasing many new ones and remove charges they will see no money from me. I believe I’m not alone in such situation and what’s more I strongly believe this is why we won’t see a goodbye for transmutation charges.
Again, I love the current system is very fair for players and I hope the OP stops his weird agenda.
It may be fair for players whose chars are all at max level, but for a newer player, it is very cost prohibitive while levelling.
I also don’t see why you think the OP’s agenda is weird?
Seems perfectly reasonable, to me.
Like I’ve never leveled a character or I’m not leveling some now.
For leveling characters you got the incredible outfit invention which I hate.
And what’s more – cosmetics are not limiting your gameplay, especially while leveling. That being said we are supposed to pay for cometics but we don’t have to because it is all obtainable with gold or as reward in whole game, even for simple logging in every day so yeah… I dont see an issue here. This is agenda for “give us more for free”.
Still incorrect, as i would still be paying for the skins themselves. Cosmetics are also considered by most here, the endgame of gw2.
Its not something that hasn’t been done already, or that cannot be obtained in multiple ways.
Also fyi, i don’t HAVE to spend real cash. I hope you remember that everything in the gem store is available in game for gold to gem conversion, so a lot of people aren’t even paying which has been proven in this thread as well. That’s not generating profit, where as i would be.
