If there is’nt a proper expansion by mid next year I’d say I will be done with the game. The LS is a massive fail for me in this regard. I’m ravenous for some substantial new content. New classes, skills, weapons, races, areas, etc on an expansion level, not this drip-fed nonsense with a back piece reward on the side.
…or do something else and maybe try again later….like maybe Anet designed it?
Dear Anet,
Please change map completion and access to legendary weapons. I’m stuck at this one keep and want my shiney now, not later. I have talked to all the players who earnt it the hard way and they are totally cool for you to make it easier…just for me. kthx
And thats why stuff gets nerfed .. because people had some lucky drops and then
brag about it as if that was normal. If i ever get a precursor i will also create a thread how easy it is to earn 1000g in 3 minutes
How does passing comment on successful market trading, common knowledge for the last two years in this game (a MMO staple since day zero), have anything to do with drop rates?
The logic behind rebuttal here is bat kitten crazy at times.
i make roughly 8 to 12 gold an hour, and that’s when i give a baby-cat enough to log in anymore.. it’s not dungeons or trading post, but of course you’re not impressed, you make 100 or so gold in the 15 minutes you log in each day right. . .
That has nothing to do with your initial comment…
yeah all that “casual” trading post flipping is so worth the time of day

Your just making assumptions…incorrectly while being snarky towards those that use the TP to make money as opposed to other more repetitive means. I don’t care how you earn coin, but I bet you do it over and over and over and over and over and it’s more or less groundhog day. I’d rather earn one silver an hour than play that way.
To each their own, but don’t be a hater just for the sake of it.
Or…just do a few minutes research before making a serious purchase.
Cool to hear you got refund though
Brag about it enough and you might get a significant amount of more people doing it to the point that it’s now harder for you to do it.
Yes.
A post here will totally destroy the market. Sorry TP flippers. My bad.
Well no, that makes -9001 sense. Mapping the entire game world is extremely time-consuming. I don’t get how you could ever call it a cakewalk. Sure, it doesn’t take skill, but it still doesn’t, even with WvW. That doesn’t detract from it being tedious.
What I don’t understand is your smokescreen. Why are you obsessed with “people earning it” and “not being lazy”? How does it remotely affect you as an individual?
Ehhh?
I directly stated it was a timesink in my post. As for you weird tangent into personalizing my comments with some sort of obsession…well yeah…pass. Outside that it has no effect on me as an individual. It cheapens the reward. Period.
Want it, go get it. Or do you want a legendary with it as well?
Just seems to me that people want an easymode reward.
This whole “But I don’t want to PvP” argument is a smokescreen imo due mainly to the fact 90% of mapping is a cakewalk outside timesink, especially with the new arrow pointing you to every hidden poi, vista, etc.
With the recent update it’s easier than ever. Leave WvW in. People should earn it. Stop being lazy.
People are forgetting that atypically gaming forums are filled with a vocal majority of complainants that is comparatively a small, if not tiny, minority in-game. People who feel disgruntled, unhappy, or dis-pleased are always more vocal and always find a format to express such complaints, usually on gaming forums such as this, while the vaster majority are happily playing the game unaware these forums even exist.
Think about it…of all the games you have played and all the resulting forums you may have read when was the last time you saw a thread in a general section from someone who said “Great game…love it!!!”? Even if you did I guarantee 4 posts down would be a poster saying what they hated about the game.
In saying I don’t think such critique is unjustified, but it’s delusional to place such import on subjective opinion on a gaming forum. GW2 will die regardless. Gaming is a consistently evolving beast,New games come out, players move on.
This game came out with rave reviews and critical acclaim and is still relevant in the current spectrum of the MMO market. Not only that but it’s excelling in terms of popularity in an over-saturated market full of failed games.
Personal opinion and critique does not equate to a game being fail.
yeah all that “casual” trading post flipping is so worth the time of day

Compared to what…grinding or running Dungeons/Dry Top? I spend maybe 10 minutes a day in TP, then go about my gaming day having a blast, and come back next day to profit. It’s hands down the easiest and most profitable way to make gold and you can play however you want.
Have fun running path 2 for the 1000th time.
Players that complain about the end-game in the GW franchise are playing the wrong game.
It’s really that simple.
It’s very good.
On my non-traveler rune guardian, when I swap for zerk, Flashing Blade is fantastic for mobility on either initiation or jumping to a new group or for cleaning up mobs that escaped the AoE carnage.
That’s one of a multitude of examples.
It’s a gap closer which equates to time saver…and it’s fun.
Silly question OP imho.
To add it really is subjective in terms of timing, and as a result I guess opinion on the subject.
With the first mapping I did EB in WvW was the Holy of Holy Grails. Due to a tightly fought WvW scenario at the time, assumption as I know sfa about WvW, it took me over two months to get the final vista there I needed for final map completion. I waited a long time for the chance to get that final ding.
Tonight I went from 0% to complete in Eternal Battlegrounds in around 20 minutes on my second mapping. My server had the whole map and all I needed was more speed boosts. Not a fight or poi held by other servers in sight.
I wonder.. if all console games were available on PC, would anyone really buy a console?
I mean.. a PC can just do much more than the consoles. (also, better graphics. if you have the right hardwares)
With emulation software many are.
Your forgetting price point, ease of use and shelf-life. Consoles are atypically cheaper and require less maintenance and upkeep. My 7 year old sister doesn’t have a clue about driver updates, anti-virus software or de-fragging but she has no issue putting a disc in my PS4 and playing Lego Marvel, neither does my grandfather who is hooked on the Last of Us…his first ever video game. You also don’t have to upgrade till the next gen console is released.
Consoles will always appeal to a broader market for such reasons.
I’d say next gen will be the dawn of MMORPG’s on a larger scale for consoles but I don’t ever really see to many cross-platform one’s being released due mainly to the PC always being a few steps ahead of any console, most of which are using PC parts that are already out-dated for gamers with PC rigs at release and also the OS differences and conflicts entailed.
I’d say at a guess it will always be a separate market with it’s own titles. In saying I would also guess it will be the Blizzards and Anets of the world being the people making said games. I’d be highly surprised if there weren’t already such plans for the future from the top dogs in the PC market.
I fully agree but they could have been designed and reworked to be symbiotic. I’m talking hypothetically from inception. Comparing one to the other as they were and are now raises obvious conflict as they are clearly separate entities in no way made to co-exist, but in theory I don’t see having two parallel leveling modes in an MMO, one for new players to learn the ropes with, and one for vets to bypass hand-holding, as an impossibility or something that couldn’t have been considered and implemented.
Akin to skipping the tutorial zones in many other MMO’s, all be it vastly more complex and complicated, but surely doable, at the least a possibility, at worst a fantasy I’m free to indulge in :P
Would have been awesome.
I don’t see why the two couldn’t be made to be symbiotic. All we are talking is differing access paths to exactly the same mechanics and rewards.
In saying I don’t know the reality, maybe it is too much of a logistical nightmare? But maybe not….
It’s implementation at fault imo.
If your going to retroactively change the core leveling mechanic why not make it an optional choice at character creation?
I agree with the split idea.
In saying I’m totally noob at WvW but running around getting my map completion there was some of the most fun I’ve ever had and it made the reward of completion feel totally epic and warranted. Did’nt get me into WvW, I’m saving that for when I burn out on PvE. The PvE side is just timesink but the WvW completion was friggin tense. Avoiding zergs, escaping roamers, even getting the odd kill. I loved it.
Yeah your pretty much locked out of a lot of it but I just waited till the servers got switched around and did other stuff in the meantime. Impatience is at fault here me thinks and lessening the effort to garner a rewards always lessens it’s worth once attained.

One should keep in mind the general philosophy of Anet since GW1 release, atypically favoring the casual over the hardcore, in tandem with the f2p model when discussing such things as it being “successful” or not. It really is a beast unto itself in this regard imo.
The majority of regular forum posters fall into the “hardcore” or at least fairly regular players. Few 80’s in the roster, a legendary or two, etc, etc and I think opinion from many maybe skewered as to them yes…the game may be dying for them personally, but overall the casual majority are still having a blast.
It’s called burn out in a game franchise that has never had enough end-game content for such players, but it’s never really been that type of game. Other MMO’s seem to cater to the end-game market better and if I were that type of player I’d be living my MMO life there. I struggle when such players burn through the content on multiple alts, get bored, then state as a result the game must be dead or dying. Fact is it’s not or we would be getting NO new content at all. Period.
At the least GW1 would have shut down, but even that’s still trucking on.
I guess my point is GW has always been a game you can just completely forget about for months, many do, only to get into to it again later down the track. It’s a jump in and jump out kinda game where it’s really up to the player to make their own fun. It should be taken as a casual game, as Anet have always stated that is the main type of player they are targeting as opposed to hardcore grinders/raiders, etc.
Yeah you can play for 10 hours a day, every day and have 23 alts each with ascended gear and legendary weapons but to then complain and claim the game is at fault or failing is actually the fault of the player and their expectations imho, not the game itself.
If I was paying $15 a month…..different story.
My only other thought would be in regards to the quotes regarding are they/are’nt they doing an expansion? Fact is who knows but posting quotes means nothing. Anet, much like every other game maker in history, can and have done complete 180’s on a multitude of “official” statements and so-called “set in stone” decisions in the past and no doubt will again.
Personally I’d love one as I vastly prefer the format of GW1’s expansions over drip feeding content and while I have found the LS entertaining I have also found it rather unrewarding in comparison to the joy a full expansion brings.
2 years and going strong imho.
Oh I fully agree,
I have no issue with content in that regard. New weapon skins are always a good thing and I can’t really fault that side of things. Some are great designs and I think the effort and mechanics taken to attain them is fair and justified. My critique is aimed squarely at the back piece being the only major plot reward for completing the story,There should be more options to the player than that for no more than aesthetic variation and diversity. That’s a huge part of games like this for most people. Individuality.
It also applies to more casual players who don’t want to grind the mats out or who can’t afford to take a TP shortcut. No doubt it will have an ascended version. Many of the players in my guild just don’t have the time or coin for that, even if they did like the skin.
It just seems counter-intuitive to restrict this when it would be so easy to create merely 3-4 more skins with differing degrees of both effort to attain and aesthetic differentiation to the player. That way everyone is happy.
Maybe this will happen in later chapters? I hope so.
Anet gives players the option to attain one new back piece skin as the main reward for completing the latest LS content. They then have to “work” in order to obtain the skin, though still with the option to buy the mats for it off of the Trading Post if they have the spare 50 or more gold…..for that one skin
Community: Seriously? Again? Just one skin? And it requires “work” or a stack of gold and mats to get? And it’s a back piece? Again? Any chance of some variation, choice and/or creative thought on LS completion rewards Anet? Maybe some other options for players that don’t like such things as “work” in a game, or those that don’t mind it if given the freedom to choose from a varied selection of rewards? Or is that an unrealistic request?
Fixed.
I have no issue what-so-ever with Gem store items or skins.
Heck I have no real issue with this new back piece as an actual standalone item or the requirements to get it. What I take issue with is the lack of other options or variations on the main reward given for completing the LS for those that don’t have the gold, time or inclination. More so it’s the fact we are restricted to one main item reward for completing this new LS content….one….and it’s yet another back piece that requires grind, mats and time/goldsink to attain It’s just friggin lazy. No doubt it will be the only main aesthetic reward as the LS progresses merely adding more time-sink each episode in order to “upgrade” it.
It’s just the same old stale format and formula every time and it’s pretty close-minded game design when they could have so easily gone “Yay!!You completed the new content, feel free to choose a reward from the following selections….”. I don’t get people defending shortsighted and restrictive game design that dictates repetition in order to obtain the single major reward presented for completing the main story arc ….in a MMORPG.
Seriously? Why would people defend lack of choice?
Thank you Dulfy. You just saved me from wasting a whole bunch of time on an ugly exotic back piece that I simply do not need.
Agreed. More Grindwars. No thanks.
The time and effort needed to attain such back pieces should really be toned down a bit. It seems like way to much hassle/timesink/goldsink for such a small aesthetic reward especially when so little effort has been put into back piece variation by the designers of this game. There should be 50 or more casually attainable variations like…gee I don’t know….all the other armor types in the game. Have maybe 5-10 involving this kind of effort so the hardcore are pacified and can stand in hubs preening and the world doesn’t have to look like an immersion breaking 90’s rave gone bad because every second character has spinal blades or wings….in a game without flight mechanics.
lol.
Instead this will just be added to the already small pool of glow-sticks. Sure people say “…just don’t get it it then…” but asking players to completely ignore imposed restrictions and limitations that have a direct effect on aesthetic differentiation and freedom of character expression in an MMORPG only serves to ignore the issue that GW is now a game that often dangles one single carrot when they release new content while expecting the player base to be the pacified donkey thankful for any new content at all while blindly chasing after the new “shiny!!!!”. It’s a smokescreen for new content that really lacks any substantial weight or variation.
Why they continue to limit things like this, the “main story reward” of any new content, to just one generic skin/tonic/pet, etc is baffling. Why not 5-10 back pieces/tonics/pets with the player choosing only one variant or selection on episode completion. Heck include a few uber-cool recipes or variants for the hardcore to pick that involve a lot of work if that’s their buzz. Wheres the variation and freedom of choice here for those that don’t have the luxury to spend what precious time they get to game farming/trading/mat collecting, etc for the only major reward of the story?
It’s just lazy game design and I would vastly prefer a proper expansion, with true aesthetic freedom and variation as Anet did so very well with GW1, than the crumbs and reward dictatorship being thrown bit by bit to players at the moment.
I love it.
Used it since launch on my D/D thief and it’s one of the most fun PvE skills in the game for me, especially in solo, duo and guild play.Group up as many mobs as I can, spin over their heads while they swing aimlessly, stack bleeds/caltrops and just take off to my next task or target completely unscathed while they all lumber hopelessly after me.5-10 seconds later XP dings as they all drop while I’m on to something else.
It’s awesome and I vastly prefer it to any other style of thief play in PvE, especially anything ranged which is just a snore fest in this game, or stealth which just seems cheap to me, especially given the mob AI in this game.
Oh…hang on…I forgot about DPS calculations, power tier elitism, dungeon build dictatorship, stealth and backstab yawn, efficiency at all costs!!!, etc, etc.
Woops…crap skill.
This “has to be the most efficient build/skill or it’s garbage and needs buffing and your an idiot to use it” attitude gets so old.If it’s not meta it’s a turd?
So glad I play with people/guilds who actually…you know…roleplay….(in an MMORPG…go figure….) and allow players the freedom to roll whatever builds they find most enjoyable or more suitable to the theme of their character for whatever content we play.
No wonder people get so bored so quickly in GW2.They just copy/paste the latest meta build and burn through everything.
To each their own I guess.
$100 says there is no guildie, just a disgruntled player who got stomped. The guise of “lol me terribad but thief so easy and op and gimmicky lol” is paper thin.Nice try though.
Actually…you were the necro weren’t you….
I 110% agree that the class is broke and needs the hard, fast nerfbat.
To add:
Warriors..far to much health and damage….broke….and not fair.Fix please.
Necros…to much condition spam and those minion things they summon are op…nerf that crap.
Engis….just run around dropping bombs and turrents…no skill in that rubbish.
Guardians…way to tough to kill and just run around spamming that annoying spiny sword instawin skill. Faceroll to win.
Mesmers…can clone themselves..how cheap is that?Nuff said.Should only have 2 powers…a wandy one and a punch.
Rangers…just stand around shooting their bow….AND get a pet…..ridiculousness.Whats next…they get to use swords too?
Elementalists…..like ten thousand skills to use..just mash buttons to win really…delete whole class from game please.
kk thx anet.
