Dude your totally missing my point and going off on some weird AP vs AP and reward vs reward tangent while being fixated on 10 AP’s. I never mentioned AP’s or any reward given…at all.
I mentioned daily completion, not 10AP……..5/5…several times, and ease of attainment, rewards irrelevant.
Old system: Just play around having fun for a few hours, 9/10 times get the daily.
New system: Win a PvP match on a Necro.
Hang on…I don’t have a Necro….
New system: Go to a zone I have zero access or desire to go to and chop down trees.
But I’m busy having fun…do I have too?
I’m discussing the change of the mechanic in terms of ease of use and impact on the player and the requirements to attain the daily while your throwing up reward comparisons as rebuttal….
(edited by fireflyry.7023)
It’s an aesthetic money grubber in a game where you can’t actually fly. The irony is that for me personally they represent a huge “I’m a moron” sign over most players heads. I’ve seen a handful of players rocking them that look awesome, it clearly suits that character and theme but for most it’s just a “look at me…I got the new skin” sign.
Sorry to hear it’s a frustration OP but they will be old hat next month when Anet comes up with it’s next immersion breaking skin….or just wait for the expansion when every second player and their dog will be a Revenant.
Boba Fett jet pack plz!!!!
You get the daily rewards simply by logging in now. And don’t tell me you could get 10 APs daily by doing anything you wanted with the old system because that’s not true at all.
No…you get a bag of random reward for logging in. That holds no relevance or merit when debating the change to the daily system. It’s a totally new mechanic.
I also never “told you” you could get 10 AP’s by doing what ever you wanted to with the old system. I merely stated it was far easier, less intrusive and a vastly more symbiotic reward which usually came as a pleasant consequence of just merely playing the game on a daily basis..

I honestly think the lack of trinity is one of this games biggest selling points, surely at least one of it’s biggest points of difference from the rest of the market.
I love the fact this game is not “LF monk then go” or tank and spank. Also as a mainly solo player I enjoy the fact I’m not locked out of content based on trinity mechanics. The self sufficiency given to every player is quite refreshing. In saying it also has it’s downside which is a huge lack of pugging outside anything but end-game or dungeons. The LFG might as well be called LFTaxi as that’s all it’s really used for yet I can just rock around having fun and don’t need to worry if a healer or tank is around to back me up.
I’ll give Anet props on this one, even though people bemoan it at times. MMORPG is an over saturated market and I honestly think many of these games have failed directly because they have followed the trinity mechanics, just with a different skin.
WoW owns that turf.
I must admit though….I so miss playing my Defender in City of Heroes. One of the most rewarding MMO experiences and memories I have is playing that game as a pure healer and buffer, so I get the attraction of the trinity. I had similar experiences in GW1 on my monk and Rit but I get the fact Anet didn’t want to go that way in this game and it’s all the better for it.
There’s to many games following that formula. Kudos to Anet for doing something different, even if meatshields are still pretty meta.
lol…price is rising fast…what to do…post on official forums…
Seriously?
Have fun on the TP.
Don’t hate the player, hate the community of players that make it a viable option.
Then again…non-sub.
It will happen.
Given GW1 I’m surprised this wasn’t the case at release.
I’ve hated the change to the daily system since it was patched in. It’s one of the worst changes to the game since release imo.
I could do what-ever when-ever I wanted to before. Just play in whatever format be it in PvE, WvW, PvP for a few hours and ding. Daily done. I didn’t even think about it.
There was the odd exception when I would see that I was 3-4/5 and had to shortly log out hence I had to go out of my way to do something I wasn’t really too keen on in order to get my 5/5 but that was maybe 5-10 minutes at the end of my session so no real biggy.
Overall it was a symbiotic reward for just playing regularly and was totally non-intrusive to playing the game on a “daily basis” which I really enjoyed. I loved the fact I would just be rocking around and all of a sudden “daily dodger” or some-such would be awarded to me. It worked in perfect symbiosis with player freedom and regardless of how you played or what you were doing it rewarded all players equally merely for taking part in the game and community.
Awesome.
This new system is a dictated work simulator. Period.
I finally get my RL crap out of the way and get to chill on GW2 for a few hours…log on….and find that days dailies have zero relevance in regards to where I’m at in the game or what I want to do with the short amount of time I have to play it that day.
No …instead do crap I have absolutely zero interest in…go to this zone and farm mats…go kill this boss…, etc, etc which often takes the full 1-2 hours I’m lucky enough to have in-game before I have to think about things like sleep and work.
I just ignore dailies now. Difference is in the past I usually still got them, for playing in any which way I wanted too. I don’t need a game to tell me where to go and what to do every day. My boss does that.
I’m not even mentioning how immersion breaking this is for RPing….
Why they didn’t just change up monthlies baffles me.Make that your work simulator thx Anet.
Good. Warriors are OP anyway.
This is a change I welcome. How annoying is it that mesmer’s only source of reliable stability comes from a single mantra skill? How long has the meta of WvW zergs been, “lockdown to oblivion before they can pop stab”? How is it fair that a single warrior can run through an entire zerg to save a tower?
It will be refreshing to time CC in combat for actual efficiency, than just watch pointlessly and wait for a stab timer to run out.
QFT.
Stability needed a tune up.
Don’t know what your problem is, mine absolutely shreds.
Agreed.
Thread title should read “Please make condition builds meta.”
They should bring it back.
As a GW fan who played this game 24/7 for the first 9 months or so I had to take a break due to RL commitments and missed the SAB. I don’t mind time-gated content in terms of holiday events, if your not around you miss out, fair call. In saying as a player and fan of indie and old-school games I’m really gutted I missed out on this content and would like to think they will bring it back even if it’s the old SAB re-opened for those that missed it the first time around.
They have said they hope to do as much for the LS, which I’m not a fan of, but I hope they extend the same courtesy to people who missed the SAB the first time around and would like to experience it.
No-brainer really.
ANet looks up from counting the day’s loot and says, “You’re welcome.”
Sadly 110% accurate.
Next week a Ghostbusters proton pack…then a Boba Fett jet rocket…then a Captain America shield….
(edited by fireflyry.7023)
By the pubic hair of Zeus, just went in-game for the first time since these came out and as I thought, total immersion break-down.
I’m talking 10 foot high purple armored Norn and fluro armored Char…with huge screen clogging black wings that make absolutely no sense and stick out like a sore thumb.
Thx Anet. Looks like every second toon has been created by a 3 year old face mashing every character creation choice ad nauseum.
I’m hoping for a selection of 1980’s fluro colors so we can really make eyes bleed.
Why would you get rid of the superior non-lore-breaking wings?
Because your basically aligning yourself with a chicken.
“Hey check these things out…can’t friggin use them… but look!!!!FAP FAP FAP!!!”
Apples and oranges.
I also miss the build dynamic of GW1. In the latter days of that game being populated I would honestly spend hour apon hour experimenting with builds, testing and tweaking before trying them out. Then, when the servers got quiet, we got 7 heroes and omfg it was a build theory-crafters wet-dream.
I still go back to GW1 for that. The servers are largely dead but to experiment with not only your build but your 7 other henchies and the symbiosis that could be achieved is something totally awesome and I can’t rave enough about how much I still enjoy it.
GW2 is really a different beast.
Builds are not it’s strong point at all. It’s a cookie-cutter zerker meta fest but hey…Anet wanted to try and push PvP as an E-Sport and with the popularity and exposure of moba games like Dota2, FPS games like CS and RTS games like Starcraft I get what they were going for. They wanted to wave the flag of E-Sport for MMORPG’s….sad to say it kinda failed and we are really left with the fallout which is a highly restrictive game in regards to build variety and freedom.
I get what they tried and how the build freedom of GW1 wasn’t conducive to that goal.
As such I really look at this game in a vastly different light. Build Wars is gone but I love the new world and overall path the game has taken but I’ll be the first to put my hand up and ask for a Thief/Guardian.
lol
GW2 is probably the worst game I have ever played for throwing endless amounts of mats at players that your never sure if you might need later. It’s a cash cow pure and simple to make you either buy more slots for mules or bank space. They could flick a switch and end stacks…or at least make common ones 1000.
Probably my number one day-to-day criticism of this game. Storage Wars 2.
Ever consider it’s more your computer at fault?
Not really an explanation why ON THE SAME computer, the MacOS version of GW2 crashes showing them and the windows 7 version does not.
I’m not a tech my friend, just trying to help you out. There is no way in hell Anet is going to implement such a change “just for you” so let’s try and get to the bottom of it.
Clearly it’s not the game at fault as opposed to either your set-up or internet provider.
I have zero idea why it’s happening, I don’t use MacOS, but as opposed to asking for such a change I’m hopeful such a user might see this thread and help you out. I’d suggest contacting Anet directly with your issue though or maybe posting in a more appropriate section like support. .
Best of luck
(edited by fireflyry.7023)
My rig is coming up 7 years old and runs GW2, mini’s, wings, WvW zergs, whatever, without a hiccup.
Ever consider it’s more your computer at fault?
God, it’s looking like nothing but wing threads tonight…
People use such items to show off. Period.
Sure there’s a minority that would argue it fits there characters theme in a role-playing sense but for the majority such items exist for pure vanity, the value of which would be be completely neutered if you had the option to not see them or ignore them completely.
In the bigger picture this would have a huge impact on the economy of the game not to mention the attraction and price of such items in the gem store which helps to keep this game free to play.
I agree at times I get over such things but it helps to keep this game-non-sub and the devs paid.
Working as intended. Rangers need all the help they can get.
L2P.
I hate these new wings, or any winged back-pieces in this game. They make zero sense in a game where you can’t actually fly but I will never criticize the way Anet have handled their gem store or the sales of such items. It’s not P2W and it’s what keeps this game running so I can play it whenever I want without a sub.
As such I have no issue with this and as stated above of course they will be back at a similar price, they just want to make those that got them on day one to feel “special”.
It’s pretty simplistic marketing when you think about it.
Single target-Thief.
AoE-Elementalist.
Hardly rocket science.
Wings are just immersion breakers for me.
They made sense in CoH…cause you could like…actually fly.
In this game it’s a badly designed vanity item imho. There is no need for them outside the “look at me…I have something uber” mentality, the fact wings are always popular and yet they make zero sense. I’d vastly prefer back-pieces that actually have relevance in the world and mechanics given to the player. I’ll pass on these although I’m sure many will eat it up and stand around in hubs preening.
To each their own.
I look forward to the day when Arena Net adds an option to disable backpack cosmetics for other characters…[snip]
I would kill for this feature. Goodbye glowsticks and flappy wings.
(edited by fireflyry.7023)
Your ignoring the point in place of semantics.
Lately, I’ve been participating in the Tequatl event a lot more, and it’s caused me to think about why I’m bringing Berserker gear to this boss, and most other world bosses. A lot of world bosses can’t be critically hit at all, which means two thirds of my stats are literally dead weight. Precision means nothing, as the crit chance is a flat 0%. Ferocity means nothing, as without crits there is no damage boost. And in the case of Tequatl, unless I’m dodging everything perfectly I’ll probably wind up on the ground a lot more than I should be.
So I’ve been taking Power, Toughness, and Vitality on the bulk of my gear for such events. Power still works as intended. The Toughness and Vitality just keep me alive more often, while others flounder around on the dirt. And instead of “on crit” sigils on my weapons, I switch over to an alternate piece that has Sigil of Force (flat 5% damage increase), or an on-hit mechanic of some kind. MUCH better results.
Then I thought: “wait a minute, what if I took some modified version of this into a dungeon?” Well, I played around a bit with it, keeping the PVT armor but switching my traits and weapons to adjust for the fact that critical hits are still functional. I queued for CoF1, the typical lazy player’s “fast” dungeon — and there was no real change in efficiency or completion time compared to my old zerker build. Its was basically the same as with a lot of PUGs: a few people screw up and die, but we get through it in 10-15 minutes or so. It’s CoF. It’s no big deal. The stakes are low, and we muscle through it. Except, rather than be the glass cannon guy who winds up on the floor when things get hairy, now I’m the one who survives and completes the room while others are fallen.
I can’t stress this enough: “speed runs” are what organized pre-made groups perform as a cooperative team, with voice communication and coordinated efforts. They all know the workings of the dungeon — and each other’s classes/builds — perfectly. That means they can afford to go “glass cannon” and put out a perfect performance, completing the content in record time, as a kind of sport. LFG is not an appropriate environment for that. I’ve been through the typical “CoF Path 1” run countless times, and I know darn well that a successful, speedy run is more about people surviving and adapting to problems than maximizing their own personal DPS. Even if the failure is not your fault, it’s far better to be able to bear the brunt of the blows as a result and try to power though a tough situation, than to wipe and start screaming at the “noobs” for not dodging at the right moment. You have to make your choices: do you want to yell at strangers on the internet, or do you want to complete the dungeon and get on with your life?
Berserker gear is fine, for situations that are completely optimal and organized, or for low-level no-brainer situations where you’re compeltely comfortable and there is zero risk. Anything beyond that, and you are taking a serious risk. Always keep in mind that many world bosses cannot be critically hit at all, so more often than not Berserkers are more of a liability than a benefit. Plus, doing PvP or WvW as zerk will lead to serious problems unless you really know what you’re doing and are incredibly lucky.
I used to be caught up in the romance of the “zerker meta,” and how expediently it seemed to get things done. Well, that’s fine for farming open-world, non-boss events and killing random easy mobs — but when things get serious, a zerker build will drop you like a ton of bricks, and may not even increase your damage for all the trouble.
Quite possibly the best post I’ve read on this forum.
I’m not the first person to ask for this…
No your not…more like the 1000th.
These threads are a dime a dozen (search is your friend) and your wrong, I completed my first mapping solo in WvW without zerging or getting ganked 24/7. Yes it took a fair bit of time but it’s meant to be a decent reward, not a spam-a-thon no-brainer against trash mobs in PvE.
It will never change, Anet want you to experience another aspect of the game. If you don’t want too don’t QQ about it. It’s not like this game is short on rewards to attain. The “I want it now!!!” mentality displayed by such players in this game aggravates me far more than the last vista I need in WvW.
I agree OP, this game throws so much crap at you but it’s also designed that you never know when that crap might be useful so god forbid you delete it. I have mule toons fully slotted with 18+ slot bags but even they are to the point of capacity and I also disagree with inventory space becoming justification for micro-transactions. It should be made easy and effortless at purchase through to veteran status.
The 250 stack cap is BS…plain and simple.
If I can tell that someone in WvW is completing a vista or skill challenge or just getting a POI, I don’t chase down and harrass them. Recognizing that there are non-pvp people on these maps that just want to get their maps done (easy to tell because they often run to predictable places and are often alone) is just being a decent person.
Good luck to you on eventually finishing your map.
Agreed.
I think class has a lot to do with it. On my Thief it took forever, I guess people see one alone and assume it’s a roamer looking for a fight. I’m talking groups of players chasing me for 10 minutes across a map just to get a kill while I’m just running to a vista. On my Guardian I would run past whole zergs and get completely ignored.
I’ve been playing a condition build since release and love it. Yeah it needs tweaking and buffing but I have always felt that I am contributing and have been told as much from the people I have played with. It’s also great solo. The only time it’s a hindrance is in boss zergs which are broke as crap anyway, unless you call 30+ players standing in one spot spamming ranged skills fun.
Point being conditions are far from useless, your just caught up in the DPS meta mentality that can be quite easily ignored.
kitten and use the litter box.
If someone wants to pay RL bank to get a legendary more power to them.
Friggin lol though.
Ahhh… the memories of assassin threads from GW1 are flooding over me as I read this.

Hey Anet…why u make dailies a drag?
If you want it get it.
In a game where aesthetic differentiation is a substitution for gear grind go for it. At least you can use it on all toons unlike legendaries. In saying the price of skins has gone through the roof in the last year, thankful I got what I wanted a while back.
once again, i am truely amazed at the amount of posters who have a complete lack of perspective here.
He is a new player.
This means he is not wearing the best gear for each level
This means he has no traits at all
This means he doesnt know little tricks, like how to get bonus exp
this means he doesnt know if he plays X spvp battles and selects a certain track he will get a book, which it turns out can be used to level him once
This means he cannot join dungeons, and when he can, it wont take him 10 minutes without being carried. Most groups these days wont even let him play.this is a NEW player, and apparently the game is very bad at retaining new players, his complaints may give some insights into why. Interestingly enough NPE doesnt really help most of his complaints.
So what?
If your new to a game then post on the forums why the game sucks when you have played for 2 days your going to get told why your wrong from forum and game vets. Play more before you post, and I quote, a “rant”.
I agree the NPE sucks but this just sounds like a player playing the wrong game when there are a plethora of MMORPG’s to choose from.
(edited by fireflyry.7023)
I always roll one main that is my numero uno.
Why? Because the biggest commodity and currency in any and all MMORPG’s is time. Hands down.
As such I don’t have the luxury to have 5 alts with map completion and legendaries, etc, etc and I can’t play 6+ hours a day.
In saying I usually have a secondary which is usually born from the need for gameplay variation and in games like this the fact I enjoyed the leveling experience the first time around and I enjoy repeating it on a secondary character.
The other toons I have are inventory mules due to this game sucking balls in regards to throwing crap at you 24/7 without the space to store it.
Just play another game.
I dislike a lot of games….go to the forum and QQ……nope.
WvW requirement will never be removed. Ever. Get over it.
Now in saying such I’m not trying to be rude or a prick by saying that, it’s just that it’s been a prerequisite since release so it’s locked in. These threads bemoaning it are really a dime a dozen and tbh old hat. Please use search first.
Again though I get player frustration, especially in the regard of being dictated to do something I don’t want to do (the new daily system for example) that is influenced by means outside my control to even garner access too. My first mapping sucked because of this and took a long time to complete, I’m talking 99.99999% complete and waiting on one vista in WvW.
I get it.
In saying I took time out, put completion on the side burner and eventually got it. My second mapping in WvW took maybe 2-3 hours. Point is it’s totally situational , based in large part on luck but the thing is there is so much more to do. Just forget about it for a week or two then try again.
GW1 was better.
GW2 is great but it’s also becoming more and more like every other MMORPG on the market with every update.
/2 cents
lol
It’s a game kitten . Go outside, take a deep breath and hopefully come to the realization that it’s really nothing to stress about. 99% of the peeps here take such things as serious business when in reality it’s nothing. As in zero. I f your gonna stress out over an mmo I’d suggest you stop playing ,The Mystic toilet has been common knowledge for quite some time……
I’d rather a DPS fest than “Group LFHealer then go” spam. Just about every other MMORPG uses the trinity, when I feel like that I play one of those. I don’t get why people want this game to become another generic tank and spank when the genre has a plethora of such games to choose from.
Mega servers don’t combine US and NA servers
Exactly.
Rewards are subjective. If you really want it and have the gold, get it.
The beginner zones are ghost-towns at times (unless part of the new daily system) and the game is still mainly populated by American players so right now is the quite time but I find it pretty hard to believe you have yet to see one actual player.
Lol what? You forgot the 20+ European servers?
Nope. My guild is American based. Mega-server.
Just started as a thief asura. But its good to know there are people. Thanks for the answer!
I normally play around this time. Feel free to add me to your friends list if you want someone to kick around with.
