The beginner zones are ghost-towns at times (unless part of the new daily system) and the game is still mainly populated by American players so right now is the quite time but I find it pretty hard to believe you have yet to see one actual player.

Pushy Guild Representation - Right or Wrong?

This game has a bad system in this regard, more so for me in terms of alliances. Most of my guild is in a different timezone and most active when I’m at work so a while back I thought I’d join a few oceanic guilds to meet other players in my timezone.

Nek minnut I can’t communicate unless repping while most of the guilds I joined stated this is not a requirement to then usually change their tune after a few days and require repping to stay in the guild, which will never happen as I’m fiercely loyal to my original guild and friends there.

What’s the point of joining another guild if you can’t even friggin say hello unless repping?

This game needs a proper alliance system and chat option as it had in GW1. The current system does anything but promote people getting together and playing…..in an MMO.

Quite simply it’s a minority complaint and MMO’s answer to the majority.

Not neglecting your request mind you OP but if you consider the evolution, or devolution, of MMO’s in general it’s really the last place I’d personally look for difficult game play anymore, way more so in this game.

Other MMO’s or genres handle that niche.

Phrased differently, player time is limited, and people would prefer to make the best use of their limited time. Doing something difficult but unrewarding might be doable the first time for novelty value, but after that it feels like a waste of time.

Agreed.

I’m with you, I wish there were direct, unique rewards all over the game (GW1 had that with the elite areas and their unique rewards). That’s why my suggestion advocates unique rewards, as well as a currency to allow someone to get those unique rewards even if their drop luck is absolute garbage.

All it really equates to in this game is more skins and variation of method in attaining such.

This game is designed like a funnel in this respect. Lack of reward options hand in hand with lack of variation in regards to the most efficient way to garner said reward.

End result:TEQ parties ad nauseam for a handful of glowsticks.

People enjoy playing the game – true – but what they enjoy the most is obtaining rewards ( especially in an MMO).
However it is also relevant to note that rewards are valued by rarity ( especially in MMOs) – something everyone can have becomes worthless.
Ultimately the only way to give better rewards is to give unique ones.

Yes and no.

This game, like many MMO’s, has slowly become a work simulator. As such I agree. If the pays crap people will quit or find another job (game or aspect of said game) that pays better. If the rewards for doing things like dungeons are sub-par people will pass. In saying there is always 1-2 things to do that garner the most reward in just about every MMO I can think of and that’s where the mob goes…always…it’s MMO dogma.

In saying I agree that unique rewards are better but I’m of the opinion you should have thousands of unique reward options, not the handful that everyone chases after in this game. If you give players this freedom of reward structure all hierarchical restrictions become obsolete and the " 1,000,000 donkeys chasing the same carrot" is replaced by open and fun gameplay hand-in-hand with a non-materialistic community.

HM was all good in GW1 but it was after the fact, fact being several meaty expansions worth of content.

GW2 doesn’t have that yet, as such I could only see the implementation of HM being used as a smokescreen to ignore the serious lack of new content. I’d be all for this in 5 years…atm…not so much.

Log in rewards are really a different topic as thats something totally new. I don’t like them, the game should make me want to log in of it’s own accord not because I get a “shinie!!”.

Outside that you missed my point. Rewarding players who log in every day over the previous system of a monthly goal done at ones own pace will put a lot of players off, as this thread clearly shows.

Analogy:

Turn up here every day at a similar time, do the same things over and over, many of which you don’t actually want to do but we make you do in order to garner reward. See you again tomorrow to do it all over again.

What does this remind you of? A game?

The amount of counter-intuitive decisions and game changes since release have really only served to push me away from this game. So many aspects have been changed that simply were’nt broken yet other aspects that were, and still are, screaming for fixes or changes still remain unresolved.

Core mechanics and problems within this game still need addressing and yet they change up dailies, LS, and NPE like they are doing the release players a favor.

Does a micro-transactional model promote an even spread of content as well as set a platform for longevity?

Nope.

This game NEEDS an expansion.

LS is killing this game. As a 10+ year fan and supporter of the franchise I doubt I will play much longer if LS is the future. It’s a poor excuse for any semblance of relevant or long-term content and player/supporters of the franchise should not be at fault for saying so.

If all of the current and future LS 2 content was packaged and dropped all at once, for 1/2 the cost of the original GW2 game (reasonable price point for an expansion IMO) would you have thought differently about LS 2? Is it the serial nature of the content forcing you to wait rather than binging through it at your own pace affecting your attitude about it?

It’s null and void.

There is little relevance for comparison. No new classes, no new features, crap rewards. LS is filler plain and simple and imho it SUCKS and is nothing more than an excuse for lack of an actual expansion, with kitten story writing. I’m a GW1 fan.

Kitten LS is kitten LS.

Seems that the poster doesn’t recognize that the game is successful so there isn’t any reason to radically change it.

I wonder if the people above going against the “meta” realize what meta means, what it is and why diversity is not and can never be a thing.

No, they don’t. If Berzerker gear is somehow made less favorable, something else will take its place.

That’s not about lack of understanding what “meta” means. It’s just that in this game it’s DPS first. Spam your chain with max DPS stats…period.

Thats the GW2 meta. Zerk.

In other games there is allowance for variation and diversity of skills, gear, classes, within that “meta”. That’s what it should be about. Allowing such diversity. To say it’s not and can never be a thing states absolute ignorance in regards to gaming history.

By and large “meta” is commonly recognised as a Greek prefix for “to go beyond” or more loosely to push boundaries or create and embrace diversity.

MMOs always will have an optimal team makeup for a specific location (meta).

That’s fine.

What your missing is other games have alternate options. The “meta” in this regard is varied and caters to different play-styles and/or gearing often just as efficient, if not more so, than the common generic cookie-cutter.

In this game the (meta) is purely zerg for the majority. Yes you can run the same content naked with a rusty spoon but good luck getting into a team and god forbid if you take 2 minutes longer than the last run. This seems to be the OP’s point, Zerg or your gimping the team.

This negates any semblance of player freedom or choice…in an MMORPG.

What a silly way to go about things.

I’ve been an admin and mod on a lot of sites and you never…EVER….let the posters pick or influence your choice of mods (specialists). That just ends in disaster, usually based on little more than forum favoritism, and really all it says to me is the mods and admins here must be to lazy to be bothered.

They should have already taken notice of who posts/trolls/contributes/argues/etc/etc and promote such people given their demeanor and/or knowledge. That’s part of being an admin/ mod or PR. This should have been done already without our knowledge.

The community knows who to go for when it comes to lore, or the market, or improving my terribad Guardian build. Why don’t the mods?

“Clearer path of communication…”…kitten. That’s their job…they get PAID to sort that yet the community is being played to do that job for free with the smokescreen of having some sort of “specialist” nomination or “shinie!!!!” title on the forum.

Lazy.

I’m with the OP on this though. I don’t play games like this to be dictated to…play this way, with this gear, blah, blah. Kitten that. My job and my mother do that. Takes me back to “ping build or kicked” in GW1. I’m not mad at the players though, don’t get me wrong, the games mechanics are purely at fault in conjunction with the need to repeat content as quickly as possible over, and over, and over again to garner reward.

There should be varied ways of doing the same content or garnering said rewards just as efficiently. This “Zerg meta” really is making certain aspects of the game stale, outside good friends and good guilds allowing for the freedom to play how one actually wants…as opposed to must.

Personal Story - Final Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: fireflyry.7023

fireflyry.7023

If to you, the worth of your playtime is measured in the amount of shinies you can collect during that time, then finishing the personal story is probably not high on your list. If to me, finishing my character’s story and enjoying a nice time with friends is what makes my time in game worth it, then suddenly the final story chapter is much higher on my list of things to do. I play to have a good time, not to amass (virtual) shinies.

Agreed but I would add the quality, hand in hand with replay-ability, of said story also have merit. I’m not a “shines!!!!” type player either but after playing this story through twice I skip everything I can now.

Story is a big deal for me, more so than having the biggest glow stick.

It’s all totally subjective but certain games stories, much like music, film, literature, etc, etc can be played dozens of time through, some never get old.

I’ve watched Dawn of the Dead hundreds of times, it scares me the amount of times I’ve watched the first Star Wars trilogy. I’ve read David Gemmells first novel “Legend” more times than I care to recall and in saying game wise I could say the same in regards to Half-Life, Baldur’s Gate, Skyrim, City of Heroes, etc, etc and while the game was good it was often more than not the enjoyment of replaying the games story that kept me coming back.

I just don’t get this connection or enjoyment of replay-ability from GW2 mainly because I have zero issue with lack of item reward if the story conclusion and game-play work as reward enough after the first play-through. Especially in a genre where it will obviously be played more than once.

For me personally they don’t nail this in GW2, it was an anti-climax to the point where I have little to no plans to repeat it outside the XP and skip every “talking head to talking head” cut-scene as soon as I can because after the first to second play-through it’s pretty paper thin and clear how linear it really is..

Guards don’t rely on removing those boons to be effective though. Dervishes would stack enchants, burn their usefulness, and then remove them to cause other effects. This is unlike anything we have in GW2 right now.

Totally agree and I loved this play-style as well but I can’t see how they could work it into GW2’s limited build structure. Condition spam is covered by just about…everyone and Guardians often “burn” their virtues in a similar manner, to attain the buffs the after-cast brings.

Yeah that’s REALLY constructive rubttal and adds hugely to the future of such games. If you don’t like, stop playing.

Why shouldn’t the OP be allowed to post his/her critique of the game. That’s exactly what gaming forums like this are for.

On topic I sympathize with where your coming from OP but I tend to look at it this way: Any sequel is really just an extension of lore. Period.

Realistically you can’t have the expectation of exactly the same game with new graphics. I’m on the same page when it comes to things like no GvG, lack of an expansion, etc, etc but outside that as a gamer overall I wanted something new. GW1 was done and if GW1 was THAT good this game would be dead and GW1 servers would be still be full….they are’nt.

Part of being a gamer to me is evolving with the game.

Overall I still think GW1 is vastly superior but that’s past-tense and there comes a point in time where you have to put the past behind you and move on or be left behind.

Vanilla Ices “Ice Ice Baby” was the best song ever written but that was 1989, things change, and you can’t spend to much time basing comparisons of the past as validation for critique on the new…unless you have a time machine handy or want to look like that old smelly guy in the the corner of the pub sitting by himself muttering about the “good old days…”….
