GW1 Dervish thank you.
Gear grind sneaking in even more….and Donald Trump.
5, play 2 mains on the reg, might add a rev to that when HoT lands.
As an avid gamer with a full-time job I can’t invest more timesink without missing out on playing other games.
Screw that.
As much as I dig this game it’s no way near good enough to make me sacrifice other gaming pleasures in order to have a dozen 80’s.That would bore me to death.
I have 11 accounts. And across all those accounts I have totally 151 characters. Nearly all of them are level 80. I still have 6 empty character slots for HoT in couple accounts.
Yeah, I should get a life.
If that is even remotely true you don’t need a life, you need help. In saying these type of threads normally devolve into little more than kittening competitions and false claims of having a thousand toons with max loots.

Grind shouldn’t mean “doing repeatable stuff to be relevant” if this is a thing you hate, you my friend are playing the wrong genre of game. RPG games have always been about doing stuff over and over to get stronger (or relevant) that’s their nature.
Have to disagree there as I play GW2 purely for the fact it’s a non-“grind” based game in regards to staying relevant. Name me another game in the genre where you can take 6 months off, come back, and then jump straight back in and still play the newest end-game content.
Outside that there are a plethora of RPG’s that are completely linear and never involve repetition of content, unless you just forgot the “MMO” part.
What they needed to eliminate was the ability to sell them on the TP but yeah we are kind of on the same page. My concern it when it swings too far the other way and suddenly every second player is running around with what was, at the time, an often hard earnt, rare and time-gated reward.
Even as a player who misses out on most of these types of things it’s cool to actually see items in-game and wonder where the hell the player got it or actually be surprised. Such items are already pretty non-existent in this game.
I will try and keep going with the thief for as long as I can and after that I’ll just quit the game. While I play most of the classes, there’s no one I enjoy as much as the thief or at least enough that I would consider maining.
Pretty much my thoughts.
I’ll definitely role a Revenant like everyone else as it looks like a high mobility class, if I dig it that could sway me to play this game more. As it stands I currently log in once a week, get bored after an hour or two, then go play something else.
Not even my alts are keeping me interested anymore.
The rewards are fine and there are a lot of items to set as goals to attain.
I’d suggest you read up as yes, most don’t drop from trash mobs.
I like the idea that certain rewards are given out if your there at the time and if your not you miss out.
It all boils down to difference of personal definition.
For me “grind” is doing something I don’t want to do in order to stay relevant and on an equal power tier to the majority or say a player who has been playing this game every day since release and has 20 lvl 80’s and 12 legendaries.
In this regard GW2 has very little “grind” as it’s easy to level and get gear that will get you through 99% of the content. I can take 4 months off when I get bored and play other games to come back and still be relevant and have import. In most MMO’s if you do that you might as well /uninstall as it will take as long to “grind” your way back to being relevant in-game.
I think where people get confused is when they burn through the games main content, have nothing left to do or see that is new and then QQ every time new content comes out as it usually represents a small amount of content that can be repeated if one chooses.
Like a small fat kid who has been denied a Big Mac for a month many players glutton themselves on it then complain about the belly ache.
Repetition of content should not be confused with what I personally would call actual “grind”, which again I see as being forced by the games mechanics to repeat content in order to attain relevance in-game.
I enjoy playing Thief more than any other class in the game, it also totally suits my role-play theme and preference, and I don’t enjoy playing the Mesmer class. That’s reason enough for me not to switch to the latest fotm.
I’m also not a huge fan of stealth. Sure I use it, as for many builds as you have to, and in PvP it’s now integral but I vastly prefer shadow-stepping mechanics akin to the GW1 Assassin hence perma-stealth is actually a deterrent for me.
Now this on the other hand…..
http://dulfy.net/2015/07/17/gw2-revenant-shiro-legend-and-sword-skills-livestream-notes/
I’d just dig an option to switch off seeing backpieces.
At times lately in hubs it’s like Pigeon Wars 2.
WE NEED SNIPERS!
Snipers wouldn’t work for me or the game in general mechanical terms me thinks.
If I want to sit on a hill and one-shot people all day I play FPS. Such a mechanic could potentially break many aspects of this game if you actually think about it.
^Great build.
I switched to similar after the update for PvE. Caltrops just seems slow, I also used Pain Inverter as I main Asuran, but venoms just trump the dps while spreading it to the whole party.
It’s a win/win and great fun to play imo.
Kind of a tangent but of a similar theme I always wished they would add an accessible player profile that is written by the player. They had this function in CoH and it was awesome for RPers like me. You just clicked on the players name and could access their own personally written back story, some of which were incredibly well written, many which were equally wet your pants laughing hysterical, and they all really added to the depth and individuality of each player. GW seems a bit clone like and this would be a great way of expressing individuality while adding to the immersion for role-players.
Then again I guess they figure that’s what the PS is for…heh..
Don’t blame the player, blame the bad game design for creating such conflict.
Not excusing straight out rudeness mind you but when you have been there and done that all GW PvE becomes for many, ESPECIALLY in Dungeons, is repetition of content as quickly and efficiently as possible to garner reward.
That’s specifically how the reward system is designed. You can’t get mad at players who choose to embrace it and get aggravated if your slowing the whole process down for the rest of the team just to enjoy the game “your” way.
I find care bears who want to skip through the dungeon holding hands and group hugging while singing “Kumbaya” are just as annoying and are often just as destructive to having fun. They tend to get offended at the drop of a hat until the whole run goes kittens up with chat tanty and them moaning on and on.
It’s Guild Wars not Hippy Wars.
In saying PuGing is always a lottery. If that’s not working for you just do what others have suggested and be proactive in finding like-minded players.
Or you could use a safe box.
Nothing wrong with a bit of harmless humor. Self-righteous posters annoy me more.
I found the old system easier.
Apples meet oranges.
I’m glad you are ok with all the killing in the game but draw the line at vandalism. It’s good to set boundaries.
This made me ruin my keyboard mid-drink sip.lol
My sarcasm detector just exploded.
Till the next patch.
No way I’m re-rolling mesmer, it’s pretty obvious it’s OP atm and I’d be very surprised if it lasts long. If your going to re-roll every time your fav class gets nerfed you might as well just max every class to 80 on alts and save some time.
If you really love a class you stick with it. Good times and bad.
Rather than retype my thoughts on this topic I’ll just re-post my take from a similar thread:
It’s my fav but the mechanic is hated on in every MMO. Sins in GW1, Stalkers in CoH and Wildstar, Rogues in WoW and AoC, Witch Hunter in WAR, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
I get it as they are often horribly designed and even more horribly implemented. Most game devs seem to focus on Warrior/Monk/Ranger and Mage classes first and foremost and everything else is the kittened cousin nobody wants to deal with hence the stealthy glass cannon class is normally broken at release and never truly fixed or completed.
Usually they just get nerfed to the point of death even though fans of the class like me will play them…self-gimping or not.
At the end of the day nobody likes to be ganked. It doesn’t matter if the ganker can be killed in one hit if the victim has any semblance of skill or awareness. The majority just hate the fact that if played well, outside bad or broken design, another player can “bamf” kill them “bamf” gone.
There is also the issue that most devs seem to design them from the ground up as a PvP specific class which tends to make them inferior in PvE which just adds more hate from the general community as while everyone else is able to finish the game spamming an auto attack the “Thief/Rogue/Glass Cannon/Whatever” class drops dead as soon as a mob farts on them. As for gated content that requires grouping…yeah…welcome to being last on the list to get an invite to that party.
This is now deeply ingrained into MMO dogma and the overall psyche of the genres player-base.
Personally I just love the play style but yeah…I get why they are hated on.
This is the class where people either stick with it for the long haul or give it up quick for any of the other classes, all of whom are far more forgiving.
Agreed but this game is also heavily alt based.
Can’t imagine there’s many out there who don’t have an alt to switch too. I’d class myself as a casual and as such I tend to run two duo mains in any MMO. I don’t have the timesink to have 12 80’s like many but more importantly given my past experiences in other MMORPG’s it’s an expectation that there will be times where classes akin to the Thief get massively nerfed.
It’s an inevitability and I always have that second main as a back-up while crap like this is going on.
My Guardian is loving life atm.
I always wondered. There were murmurs of it happening around release time and the simplistic mechanics when compared to GW1 would make it seem viable but I highly doubt it ever would.
If it did I’d assume it would be on completely different servers. Mixing PC users with console users in this genre would be a disaster imho.
Or just turn on chat and do nothing but 222222 for the lols.
I actually did this recently and it was a hoot.Funny thing was we won and I was 2nd on the ladder at the match’s end but yeah…according to the map spam and wisps it was me who sucked.
sPvP.Baha.
What needs to be toned down is the burst. It will promote more counter play for just about everyone.
Best thing I’ve read post-patch in any thread.
lol
I turn off chat and go invis status whenever I go into PvP. Problem solved.
The venoms are generally considered a waste outside Basilisk Venom which is usually used in PvP.
Traps have changed a bit as you can now trait Deadly Trapper to drop the recharge and add vulnerability and might. Combined with Improvisation for example you could slot Ambush, get a low recharge and a trigger which leads to having a few buddies out to grab aggro, do a little damage and grant might. Shadow Trap is also a popular choice in PvP for the mobility, initiation and disengage it can provide.

Oh dear….I had’nt thought of the word “Wammo” in years.
Speaking of which, anyone else notice that the only toxicity in the community exists around solo or small group content?
sPvP is pretty bad atm.
I played it pretty much exclusively for the first 6 months after release and it had a great group of players. Just getting back into it as I can’t be kitten d running dungeons for my Legendary and every second game is filled with players cussing out fellow team mates for not running certain builds or getting anything but top score on the team list.
I feel sorry for the new players HoT will entice. It can be a pretty rude “all chat off” community atm.
Grindfest? Really? Are you kidding me? What are you grinding? The only “grind” is for achievements or skins and are entirely optional.
Skins aren’t really optional here. They make up at least half of the entire game economy and reward system. There’s not a whole lot to play for apart from these.
QFT.
This game doesn’t take long to finish. After that it’s purely Grind Wars 2 outside PvP.

You don’t have to do anything but acrobatics is pretty rubbish in all regards.DA and Trickery offer way better options.Improvisation for example is the best thing to come out of this whole post-patch mess as far as I’m concerned.
Depending on your build your talking a good chance of instant trait, utility and even elite skill recharge with twice the steal skill which if targeted properly is free stealth, etc, etc.
Btw CnD into Steal will trigger both your venom and the stealth for BS.
The best thing about Dervish was utilizing their skills for builds on every other class but Dervish.
This could be a troll. If so…well played good sir.
Agreed.
That’s why I use CM. I wouldn’t play the game without it.
Lose Acrobatics.
Yeah…repeating “God mode” does nobody any favours.
In saying all classes have escape mechanisms, difference being that those outside thieves also have the damage mitigation and other options to deal with a failed spike or gank. We pretty much are limited to “Uh oh….stealth and run…”.
I have no issues with your OP but you HAVE to present an alternative form of mitigation or survivability in order to promote actual valid debate. It’s a trend because we have limited alternatives when compared to the varied mitigation and escapes of other classes while most now have equally comparable burst damage with higher HP pools and greater survivability traits, skills or utilities.
QQing about pretty much the only build type and escape mechanism we have is pretty futile. Your not telling us anything we didn’t already know and it’s akin to stating “Warriors and their HP and stability….it keeps them alive when they fail to kill me and then they run away…nerf please Anet…”
Seriously?
Tbh I kind of feel that way too.
#logs into GW1#
This thread made me lol.
On topic this should have been an in-game function at release. The whole inventory management system in this game is a migraine in waiting. My mouse hates me.
Storage Wars 2.
Try being a Thief main…I feel your pain.
D/P has high skill cap once you take off SA, play DA/CS/Tr and run full zerker or close to it, at least S/D has plenty of evades compared.
D/P never req high skills to play thats even without SA lol.
from what i’ve experienced d/p and p/d is super easiest set to play.
To be fair you could say that about any weapon combo. It’s the quality of the opponent that dictates the skill level required, not the weapon set.
As a Sin I remember some great joke builds.
lol
PvP is a bit of a shambles right now as a huge patch dropped about a month ago, as such I’d imagine there will be a lot of balancing tweaks over the next few months but it’s all based on skills and class abilities.
Armor and weapons have no relevance in GW pvp outside the aesthetic.
Long story short it’s a pretty volatile environment atm but it’s still great fun and it’s non-sub so I’d suggest you just jump in and check it out. That will answer your query far better than anyone else’s opinion.
I’ve found it less relevant post patch as players would rather just hang around and win the war of contrition in that a D/D Thief will usually die in 5 or less hits…why run? With blind, Aegis, invul, etc who cares if you can’t run away when there was really no need or desire too anyway?
If anything it’s a given when not playing Thief that your sticking around to try and finish the gank which can be a huge advantage to your target.
In my limited experience running D/D your better off to stealth and backstab or HS chase when a player gets that low anyway. Hitting a stationary player requires you too be relatively stationary as well. I’d rather they were running tbh.
In saying it’s so situational and subjective I’d assume every player has a completely different take on it. That’s just my 2 cents.
We must have played different games as Dervish never took import over Warrior in the GW1 I played outside initial release until the nerfing of enchant bombing. Outside certain niche builds and circumstances they actually sucked in comparison.
Rest easy bud. They won’t mess with Warriors.
If I had a gold coin for every thread where an OP complains this game sucks, to then never post in the thread again while the forum regulars argue semantics I’d have my retirement plan sorted.
Nice necro though.lol
Sheesh. Just /uninstall already. Nobody cares and this is obviously not the game for you.
PS.Catch up in LA 2mrw
Thief.God mode?
lol
The higher health pool IMHO is warranted in that spike damage was increased significantly to the point where all of a players health can be removed in a single attack.
Totally agree but my take is fix the DPS spike or initial problem. Giving the class more health ignores the core issue of a bad patch to the game and really just aggravates the problem.
It’s ridiculous in casual or lower tier PvP atm as most of the time there’s zero skill or gameplay involved as opposed to who manages to get their gank in first. Anet ranked the DPS up WAY to much in that it eliminates any actual skill as there is no time given to the player to even react and there’s very little longevity given to the player or confrontation to express ones skill.
Every player and class is the same. It’s Gankwars 2.
One-shotting…or even 2/3-shotting in PvP equals bad PvP outside higher level play.
