Agreed.
Keep the grind to titles like you did in GW1 so I can just ignore it. kthx Anet.
More players will just move on.
Playing a game shouldn’t be like organizing D-Day.
AnetSo from what we can see this is working as intended.
Week later…
The recipe was not implemented until yesterday
Way to go Anet.
I’m convinced the lack of new armor and weapon skins in HoT is meant to drive gem sales.
This.
The amount of gem store and BL skins released since HoT dropped seems cagey as hell. A lot of games are copping flack for such business practise #cough# Battlefront #cough#.
Seems awfully convenient that HoT was released with a serious lack of aesthetic options…nek minnut…new BL and gem store skins every week.
This thread reeks of envy.
Maybe PvP more?
Easily ignored as far as I’m concerned. Give PvPers their ego-peen. Like I care.
I’m just mapping core with guild newbs avoiding the whole diatribe of HoT BS. I’m surprised at the whole “grind!!” tanty though. In a franchise that had GWAMM and titles as it’s highest reward for years it goes without saying that the grind was coming…that’s how Anet rolls.
Repeat this kitten a thousand times and get a shiney or some words under your name that nobody gives two kittens about.
They should have just pumped out decent and consumable easy mode PvE open world like they did at release and kept the hardcore happy with raids. I honestly find core far more enjoyable and relaxing. As you say OP, HoT is just a “serious business” stress fest full of QQ and kitten. It’s like I’m playing two different games.
HoT is a massive fail as far as I’ve observed in-game, that’s not an opinion, just a highly subjective observation.
Anet…don’t kitten off casuals.kthx
Difficulty settings for HoT content so everyone will be happy and we can put it to bed.
Adventures? annoying mini games more like

Not only masteries but collections too.
All those minigames are continuing the massive success of activities like Crab Toss and Sanctum Sprint. I mean the lines in LA to enter those are endless…
Made me lol.
Seen this topic raised quite a lot recently in a varied assortment of threads and got to wondering what peoples thoughts are on GW2 as an E-Sport and Anets continued and on-going push for this to be a “thing”?
(Get out my loading screen with the twich ads please.kthx)
At the risk of repeating myself I’ll just post my comments from another thread that kinda got me thinking about the whole issue.
Anet goal for GW2 is Esport.
They really need to give up on this pipe-dream and stop dumping money and resources into it. It’s just too imbalanced, broken and overly complicated to be in any way considered marketable as an e-sport. If GW1 taught them anything it’s that PvE is their cash cow, so throw your money at it.
E-Sport is moba territory.
It’s only chance of garnering any semblance of long term success and relevance is if it’s actually enjoyable for an audience to watch, more so those who don’t actually play the game. That is the core foundation of a successful “sport”, but watching any GW2 PvP game is enough to give non-epileptic viewers seizures and it’s just a giant indecipherable cluster-kitten to your average non-player.
I mean look at the success of mobas, CS, Starcraft. etc.
Easy games to get the gist of, most can be explained in under a minute, not overly complicated but extremely hard to master at the top tier. Most importantly due to their simplistic foundations they make great spectator e-sports. I’ve had many non-gamers watch tournies with me and really get into it, if not start playing the game after watching such footage.
Great “e-sport” games are first and foremost easy for the layman to understand.
GW2 will never get there. It’s just do bogged down by MMORPG mechanics.
I’m surprised ESL keep going with it.
Now don’t get me wrong. I loved the PvP in this game. It’s pretty much all I did for the first two years and only stopped due to burn out, a few nerfs to my main, and yeah…PvP burn out :P
In saying I never thought this game was E-Sport worthy. I struggle to think of any MMORPG that is. The genre just seems way to mechanically complicated, niche and imbalanced to ever garner the popularity of actual E-Games like Dota, CS, Starcraft, etc.
I’m down with Anet having their own tournies and that kind of thing but this whole push for the PvP to be taken in any way seriously as a top tier E-Sport seems like a waste of time and resources that could be spent on more pressing issues.
Thoughts?
Since when did GW2 become a Hardcore MMO?

What’s wrong with voicing criticism early?
Nothing…but the price of chairs…really? Given it’s not yet a month after release? It just seems a no-brainer that such critique is wasted at this point in time unless you just enjoy QQ for the sake of it. Seems like it would have vastly more relevance and import to be raised at a later date when the devs actually give a hoot about minority issue.
When people are arguing about semantics, they’re arguing about the definition of a word. That’s clearly not what’s happening here, so it’s a pretty bad misuse of the word; that being said, based on your reply I believe the term you’re looking for is “nitpicking”, because we’re complaining about a relatively minor flaw in comparison to all the other flaws and bugs that need addressing.
Perhaps you should refrain from belittling complaints by describing them as “QQing” or referring to the community as “laughable” if you don’t like it?
Yeah your a dosh looking to one-up off-tangent.Have fun with being a grammar enforcer.
Good day sir.
How are so many people already done with their masteries and all the elite specs? I play everyday and I’m still not fully done with either. Of course I hop into an occasional fractals but still, I’ve played HoT plenty and I’m nowhere near done with it or tired of it.
That is more or less what I don’t get.
The inability of players to see it’s not the game at fault here.
Actually the ai system in gw2 is capable of a lot more than we see in game.
I have heard this and seen the videos but have yet to see it implemented in-game.
Would be awesome but maybe it will be the next expac?
Your knee-jerk reaction does speak volumes about your character.
Your being hypocritical and your need to get personal and attempt to belittle me says more about your character.
I was clearly responding to the OP, as I clearly stated.
Maybe stay on topic and make valid points as opposed to insulting my character.
Cheers.
enjoy
Elf and Evil Dead..you sir win.lol
In HoT mobs do WAY more damage, have WAY more HP, break bars and weight of numbers.
You might call that artificial but not sure what else they could do to keep the vets happy till raids are meta.
They can’t do much about the AI in this engine outside subtle tweaks me thinks and maybe it’s future proofed so they can just scale a few numbers back to make the content easy for scrubs in the future?
This is called “feedback”, if nobody complains about bad designs, ANet will never get around to fixing it because they’ll just assume everything is fine and dandy.
I’m not saying you don’t have a valid point. Far from it. I have been an proactive and vocal advocate of gaming forums like this having the sole purpose of being a medium of such complaint and feedback.
I’d never attempt to invalidate that or the relevance of the medium but you have to have perspective given the time-frame.
I can’t see the financial mechanics of chair upgrades in the guild hall being high on the list of Anets last dev meeting. Maybe do what my guild has done and wait until more important matters are attended to, or at the least be slightly more realistic and less dramatic.
To try to belittle when english isnt even my first language makes you look a fool, with little rebuttal.
Semantics.
(edited by fireflyry.7023)
Nobody said it would never happen.
Everyone agreed only elitist bellends would make such demands on a PuG. More power to them, they have had zero effect on my game…since forever. It’s not pug friendly. For every noddy demanding such things there is a a lot more who don’t, and won’t.
Don’t you see…this is actually great.
They can do their “max gear and stat need monk..oh crap mean druid then go oh wait need warrior oh need druid with +100 cond wait need zerker please change gear thing ping then we go then oh wait need ascended carrion oh wait then oh what dude change you trinkets to zerker then go oh wait…” rubbish and I can just add them to my “noddy” list.
Win/win.
Come on guys.
The expansion hasn’t even been out a month. With Raids dropping, by all account the biggest selling point for many, and so much new content to tweak, patch and fix. Not to mention how obvious this whole expac was rushed out and yet still went live with little issue…and…
Your QQing over the price of chairs….CHAIRS?
This community is laughable at times, you don’t even give Anet a fair chance before griping over semantics..
I see no issue with this.
Agony is just a grindsink anyway. Doubt Anet will go for it though. They want you playing 24/7.
I came to one conclusion and that is : People can spit and hate on WoW,how much they want, but look what they getting as expansion
…but they pay subs AND THEN expansion cost on top.
I paid as much as I would for a good 10-50 hour single player game and have had over 3 years and thousands of hours play.
Regardless of the content at release your argument is invalid.
The psychological impact is much the same. The only real difference is whether and how much real money you’re losing.
Totally agree.
I just don’t see it becoming an issue here. It’s too niche a game.
In saying look what happened in CS:GO with skins accessibility based on RNG. There are youtube videos of people dumping whole paychecks on that kitten. I agree the concept is horrid but in this game it’s pretty much a non-issue. I have to be subjective in that I can’t see it doing any harm to GW2 or their players and it keeps the game running. At least here it seems to be working as intended and unless I see proof of it being hugely negative or hurting players I don’t think over-generalization is accurate.
I expect the planet will keep turning either way.
Not if I don’t get my missing Central Tyria Mastery Points!
lol
Fair call on that my friend.
Sarcasm withstanding I have yet to receive such messages.
I found it worse pre-HoT and assumed they did a mass ban or something.
Valid complaint ihmo.
The invalidation should also result in non-use of the consumable.
If it makes me give two kittens about my Thief main I’ll be happy.
If not I’ll just keep mapping core on my Rev and enjoying HoT on my Guardian.
I expect the planet will keep turning either way.
Ah, someone who feels the same way I do about it. Even there is technically no “real” monetary reward, you can pay real money to buy the keys. So it’s kind of a legal loophole and is most definitely gambling in the psychological sense. It’s rather sad to me that games can get away with this sort of thing, under the umbrella excuse “virtual” and “game.” It’s definitely ethically questionable when real money can be involved.
I imagine the only reason they don’t get slapped on the wrist for it is because it’s not possible for real money to exit the system – only to enter it – so the government couldn’t give two hoots about it.
Somehow the people who design these systems are ok with living with them. They probably sit there and reassure themselves that no one is actually wasting important money on key gambling, while some exec gets the brunt of the profit from it.
The dark side of game design… not fun to talk about or acknowledge, but it’s there.
Slight over dramatization me thinks.
As long as it’s a choice to take part or not the game devs should lose no sleep over it. I can’t see people not feeding their children or losing their house because they spent all their money on BL keys in GW2.
RL gambling is a huge issue but the rewards are RL money. In this format it’s supplementary income to help keep the game running in reward for niche in-game shinies.
Big difference.
lol at seeing the mighty Lord Humungus in this thread.
But yeah OP…RNG.
I mean dudes in CS:GO make RL money from posting videos of them opening similar chests. It’s the games slot or pokie machine mechanic and some people love to gamble yeah?
(edited by fireflyry.7023)
No doubt this will be moved to a more appropriate category by a mod but as Straylight asked what’s your fps in core?
Easily the best thread I have ever seen here. Awesome OP.
If you had done something OTHER than farming dungeons, you would know the answer to this.
^This.
If gold is a hugely motivating factor you have to think outside the square. Outside repeating the farms everyone else does because it’s on every “How to make gold” thread or youtube video you have to be proactive and patient for these changes to take effect and the market to settle.
Anet blatantly stated this would happen on release with the changes and it’s not even a month in yet.
If your jumping on bandwagon to bandwagon then just farm SW like the majority. Outside that join a guild that is economy focused, most will have tips and players that follow the economy closely. Such guilds got a huge return on investing in pre-HoT runes, sigils and armor in the last few weeks that are now selling for well over 10x the cost for example.
If it’s a big deal do some research, it’s worth it’s weight in gold.
Literally.
I’m having a blast mapping core on my Revenant, hardly touched the new content outside a dozen hours on my mains. Putting it to the side to savor later.
If you decided to blow through the new content in under a month on every character like a fat kid gobbling down a 4 course meal I have zero compassion OP. One day you, and players like you, will come to realize it is not this game, or the expac, at fault (although it does have a few…not saying that).
It’s your expectations and style of blasting through new content, As a GW1 player I knew what to expect and hey man…it’s GW…go check out something else (Fallout 4 says howdy) or continue playing Skyrim.
Better that than shout at the mirror.
The game will still be here after you detox.
It doesn't make any sense. It just doesn't.

On the other hand Raids having a high skill ceiling will mean parties are less tolerant on new/unskilled players.
Raids have nothing to do with skill.
They are purely memorization and familiarity of content in order to counter repeated mechanics. Sure there will be some randomization, I hope, but overall it will be cookie cutter builds in cookie cutter teams with cookie cutter gear rinsing and repeating.
I like the snipers.
They keep me on my toes and kill me all the time but that’s what I wanted from this expansion. Content that beats me to a pulp.
No more friggin nerfs thx.
Just chuck Sigil of Speed in a weapon set and group trash mobs. Pretty easy to stack. Problem solved.
If your lazy Runes of the Traveler.
/end thread.
If it’s a non-issue for you kitten and enjoy.
Attempts at invalidating others issues with little more than “..me and the missus are rocking out guild hall so kitten….” make you look like a wally.
Yeah…hypocrisy.
Guardian hands down.
Warriors have been shafted and recently joined Thieves at the “special kids” table.
Hypocrisy at it’s finest.
Same issue with me.
Have tweaked and set everything to low settings but have experienced a huge FPS wack some time in the last few months. It just makes no sense as every other game I play, including other newer/older MMO’s have maintained there constant FPS over exactly the same time period. Process of elimination says it’s a change to the game at fault, not my rig.
Still within my right of return period and might ask for a refund on HoT if it stays like this. Love this game but can’t justify playing a slide-show when other games are running fine, as this game used to.
The majority who did regret pre-purchase will never admit it or post it.
Who likes to admit they got hustled in a public format?
Competitive play vs non-competitive play.
What a silly thread.
In general I still find it fine. So many newbies to kill.
I would hate to lessen the valid points thief mains have, as I am one and this class is THE most nerfed in the game but overall I still find sPvP enjoyable and feel relevant. High tier may disagree but I don’t play there.
In saying I mained a Sin in GW1, maybe I’m just older and wiser with a major side of tolerance.
LFG is a taxi tool.
I use it all the time for offering help to new players and find it great.
But yeah…overall it’s a taxi tool for the next farm.
Great MMORPG, best MMO of the last 4 years? Not so much.
Mobas claim that crown.
One. I am a mainoholic (rare species).
Yup.
I have 2 mains and 3 mules as of release and to this day. I tend to duo main in any MMO I play. I just don’t have the timesink to be an altoholic and prefer to focus on a couple of characters although I will probably role a new main with the spare expac slot.
Tbh the fact people have 69 80’s kind of freaks me out, as in scared for the future of humanity, unless they are gold farmers which is even worse.
Who the hell has that much spare time?
People who complain are still hoping for change. It’s people who give up on change that actually quit the game and most of them walk away and never say another word.
Agreed.
The critical are also vastly more vocal online as the repurcusions are less. You can’t walk into a public store and just rant to all the other customers about your personal issues with the product while pointing and placing blame at the owner. Social decorum and not wanting to look like a loony or face the every day repurcusions of such actions, eg arrest for public nuisance, come into play
This is more so a factor on gaming forums as that is largely their sole intended purpose, a largely anonymous medium for critique and feedback from customers with far less need for the decorum or restraint of RL outside admin or tou restrictions and rules enforced by moderation. To begrudge this is akin to complaining that water is wet. That’s just how customer feedback works, more so online.
In saying there is a normal simmering level of malcontent on any normal day to day basis with any such medium but when it boils over I have found it tends to represent far more than just the “whiny qq” many here disregard it as. Saying so just displays ignorance or lack of customer service experience.
I will say complaint needs to be restrained in this format though. Way to many people with an issue feel so personally aggrieved they have to start a new thread with every new complaint, no matter how slight, even though there are already several threads discussing exactly the same issue. They often don’t search for pre-existing threads, they feel aggrieved and want their problems to be personally addressed by the company involved or in this case their peers asap. Page 1 thx. Now. Bump.
This tends to present a highly skewered and inaccurate perspective in regards to negative feedback, but it’s by no means irrelevant.
Personally I find the “white knight” mentality more annoying. Pretty sure Anet could release a poo on a plate and have the same group of regular posters telling the critics that it “…tastes fine, stop complaining.”.
It would be way worse if you didn’t have bags.
Exactly.
People are replying to this by saying “no it would be better without bags and chests… if there was less garbage loot”…uh….no kitten sherlock but it’s not like that is it. Fact is we are thrown bucket loads of garbage as of now, not in the dreamy sparkles and candy land where loot and drop rates are actually decent, hence bags are great for the current mechanic.
Just play away, empty the tardis and merch enmasse before logging off.
To reiterate it’s better that than having a full inventory every 2 minutes and using hypotheticals to justify losing the bag mechanic is redundant. We are talking here and now, with crap loads of crap loot.
Just… stop it, devs. Give me the contents directly.
I’d find this worse.
I can stack bags and chests to the side and worry about them later and carry on playing. If the crap in the bags just dropped freely I’d be dealing with a full inventory every 2 minutes.
Yeah this game endlessly throws heaps of crap at you but this has been discussed to death and Inventory Wars 2 is to be expected when they ask for RL money for more storage space, either via bank or mule slots.
Anyway…
Unless your using a mouse from 1981 it’s pretty easy to set up “left click” to mouse scroll. I just scroll up on stacks, job done. If your mouse won’t allow it maybe it’s time for an upgrade, a decent gaming mouse with profile options and key binding are cheap as chips and it’s effectively the same thing.
Yeah an “open all” option would rock but I would assume after all the requests for this it will never happen, whatever Anets reasoning is.
