ascended armor stats arent a huge increase, you’ll be okay

I laugh at these comments….so because exotics is a slight increase to rares, then we can use rares in WvW? why not just use greens? no wait blues work fine?

Exotic armor is a large increase from Rare, Exotic to Ascended armor is only something like 2-4 stat points (per stat) per hundred.

3 seconds is about -40%, that is considerable. Permanent Vigor is standard for many classes, but obviously not thief.

SB rocks for trash mobs, especially with power gear.
Healing is situational, I like(d) Withdraw, basically for the short recharge in combination with Vigorous Recovery – but that trait was hit recently. When Cluster Bombing, Signet of Malice is very good, allowed me to tank out swarms of trash in Orr. Hide in Shadows has uses, stealth and condition removal is ok.

Pistol off hand for the #5 blind field
Sword for cleavage auto-attack and the occasional infiltrator’s whipping

Boring as hell but a pretty safe auto-win spec.

SB as secondary, for mobbing up trash with cluster boobs.

Only perfection is good enough

+5% is still +5%.
Same reason to take this as to pick traits or upgrades that increase damage by 5%. Same reason for every other little bit +%, they all add up.

I think P/D should be nerfed… next-next patch. remove the bleeds.

If they sufficiently upped the power scaling on Sneak Attack that could be a buff. Imagine a zerker style P/P & P/D thief bursting targets down from range. I could live with that.

More condition builds will result in more condition cleansing being brought. More cleansing means less other defensive measures against non-condition builds. It’ll level out, eventually.

Maybe sharing should go, or be substantially toned down, because it’s the huge potential increase of their effectiveness under Venomous Aura that pushes the non-traited venoms into lameness.

So, something to note from the livestream is that it has a 4k individual heal PLUS 4 stacks of skelk venom which have a 650 base heal, giving you well over HiS’s heal with support opportunity.

It’s not what the tooltip says.

Last refuge killed me last night..

Standing in my shadow refuge completely visible because last refuge decided to kick in during a fight and then i cancelled it with my next hit.

Such a frustrating skill. Wish they’d change it to having 2 seconds of evade at 25 percent health instead.

So, a thief trait/skill/weap did everything but play that certain 1987 Rick Astley song.

I feel your pain, phaeris. I leveled and geared my thief while waiting for THEM
to fix my ranger’s traits and skills. In that time, thief got dunked in weak sauce.

I sympathize with you, I avoided Ranger, my main in GW 1, on the hunch that pets would never be on par with anything else and with pets as the designated main theme for rangers … I went with Thief, as Rogues had given me a lot of fun in D&D style games. Look how that is turning out. Maybe I should better spend my time investigating D&D style MMO’s.

Oh the new thief heal is going to mix some things up for sure!!!

At least my feelings towards you.

A venom heal that is not affected by Venomous Aura, heals crap and even worse if you miss. Oh, and it doesn’t trigger on-heal effects at all.
Adding this skill in the way you are Hallelujah announcing it is outright insulting.

How bout we fix the problem: Make pets not suck and give rangers more interesting ranged combat options. For thieves, make dual pistols not suck and give them more interesting ranged combat options.

Unfortunately Jon Peters has publicly announced these changes will never happen. That’s why I’m making the suggestion; it actually gives players the archetype as an option on some level than none at all.

There’s bigger lizards to fry, so no. Once the dragons are gone, we’ll only have to wait for the Charr to start a brawl.

Personally I would. Ever since the searing happened in GW1 I yearned for revenge but never really got it :/

I thought hunting Charr, destroying armies of their recruits and levelling their ‘fortresses’ right on the doorstep of their inner homelands was fine for revenge. Not to mention helping them with their own feuding and bloodshed.

You are proven wrong by actual Wvw participation in higher tiers. It’s just that you’re lacking the skills. Cloaked in Shadows triggers on entering stealth, which is either by skills with long cooldowns or with CnD, which can be countered by preventing it from landing.

all it takes for me to fight non thieves without taking any damage is 2 blinds

It’s in the healing slot. Healing is 5 × 1/6 of that of Withdraw, but on a 45 sec cooldown, while Withdraw is on 15 seconds. It also very likely doesn’t trigger on-heal stuff, so, it looks LAME. Whatever they were smoking when creating it, it should be destroyed asap.

Actually blind is easy to remove. But you do have to pay attention and notice you are blinded …

Wrong, stealth essentially is on a cooldown, and thus the blind associated with it.

blind when injured-trait= acceptable blind

Throw feathers is on a 60 sec cooldown

AoEblind+field-no cooldown

It has a pretty long internal cooldown, or it sometimes gives vigor and fury rather then feathers. I actually do not mind if they made it do that all the time. Though I’d prefer might over fury.

Edit: Throw Feathers has a 60 second cooldown and when it is on cooldown, triggering Instinctual Response gives 10 seconds of fury and vigor in it’s place.

I am curious as to why people prefer shadow rejuv over shadow protector.

Protector is not applied when any other health regen is already on you, or your ally. This makes it less viable in all situations where health regen is applied, basically anytime you play with other people. Better suited for situation where you only go in stealth briefly, like a S/D, or when you don’t want to go 30 points in SA

Carrion or Dire, keep in mind that you C&D almost as often as you Sneak Attack. Power is still useful on a P/D condition thief.

I am an early bird, might be online at 6am. My niece is a nightbird, might be on till 4am. 6 or 8 hours Wvw server downtime would mean I can’t play, or she can’t play.

As much as I love the Thief as a classic Dungeons and Dragons concept, I think it needs a nerf here. Currently, it’s pretty much broken. You get high healing, …

Drink Elixir H to heal yourself and randomly gain protection, regeneration, or swiftness.
Healing: 5,560 (1.0)?
Protection: 5 s
Regeneration: 10 s (1300 health)
Swiftness: 10 s
6860 HP = 274 HP/s heal

Vanish in stealth and gain regeneration. Cures burning, poison, and bleeding.
Healing: 5,240 (1.0)?
Regeneration: 4 s (520 health)
Stealth: 3 s
5760/30 = 192 HP/s heal

Elixer H is a 43% more effective heal then HiS.

… I’m thinking the healing should be lowered slightly (maybe equal to Shelter)…

Guildwars 2 PvP wasn’t meant to give anyone an easy time, perhaps the condition immunity granted by Automated Response needs a review

Power first, then crits.
Someone did that math, but it’s enough to consider that +Power feeds damage and thus will also feed crit bonus damage.

The compromise isn’t in Power vs. Crit, but in Crit vs Survival.

For swiftness on dodge, feline grace and caltrops on dodge. I think might on dodge is a 10 point major in acro to complement it.
Withdraw, Hide in Shadows and Signet of Malice each have their place, but Withdraw is my favourite. For PvE Caltrops is nice, Shadow Refuge for rezzing, stealth opening of chests, or getting away. In PvE Thieves Guild for elite and then usualy the shadow signet for +25% movement.

His thief has 10 trait points at the moment.

Just go with the story and keep in mind that your thief is vulnerable. Acrobatics and trickery are good though, get those dodges up. Off-hand pistol for black powder shot will save yo many times, main hand sword for cleave and we have …. S/P. And a shortbow as second set, for blast finishing in group events (don’t try to melee bosses with your sword just yet).

I’d like there to be the option to have customized presets for the graphics (possible other settings) or be able to create new, custom presets for them.

The current presets are flawed, ‘best appearance’ results in low fps for crowded area’s, ‘autodetect’ is generally ok but there to crowded fights result in low fps while ‘best performance’ is overdoing it with subsampling – my prefered high performance tweaks would have native sampling, FXAA and ultra LOD, for instance.

Forgive me if I read that wrong, but isn’t a reduced cooldown a buff?

Not with Last Refuge. Remember it’s that minor trait that automagically puts you in stealth a split second before your c&d hits. Would be a buff if they increased the cooldown to, say, 30 minutes.

I see builds getting to 1200-1400, add 250 from corruption and some more from food and, well. that’s still a long way from 2200-2400. So, how do you get it to 2200?

Look at some of the posts in this thread. You don’t have to have a half naked character to look good.

What he said. It’s either a weird moving coat or half naked. There’s very few coats that don’t reach to below or near the knees and consequently move oddly while walking – even when they look fine otherwise. Those that don’t reach low are either expensive cash shop items, or leave a lot of skin exposed.

Looking for the next opportunity to use C&D to get into stealth.

Maybe running with a zerg for a bit will help shake off the stess/panic when in combat with players. Just zerg along and when you get bored split of to capture a camp or kill a Dolyak or something.

And never underestimate shortbow in a power/crit build. It’s not just for tagging, blasting fields and mobility. It’s a heck of a weapon in its own right. One of the primary downsides to a condition build is you’re not as good with this little gem

Quite true. And without the on-crit initiative even blast finishing is less effective.

If you hadn’t gotten condi gear yet I’d suggest to go Soldiers (karma sets, or one of the others mentioned) with Berserker trinkets and jewels and something with 30 crit and 30 shadow arts. It leaves yo uwith more choices, even P/D works to some extend (at least as a survival set).

I mean that it’s completely absurd to compare two games, even more so to compare one aspect of the mechanics.

I haven’t played Wow, but if it’s like most MMO’s you’d probably not be able to evade/dodge like you can in GW, or hit something without targeting it. To compare ‘mobility’ between GW and Wow is absurd.

Furthermore, if you compare with thieves in other games you are attempting to ‘balance’ similar professions among diffenent games, which is even more absurd. We are playing Guildwars and Guildwars character classes should be compared and balanced amongst each other and not against similar classes in other games.
