And yes, it works
It just doesnt work very well with pvt geared players in a group or with certain mobs that imo dont work properly.
I run with full zerker group and I tested anchoring. During the run, mossman preferred one of the warrior, ettin another one and archdiviner preffered thief. With standard anchor build 0/0/30/30/10 you won’t do enough damage to draw aggro. Not to mention that mobs have different priorities and assuming that just high toughness values would be enough to lean it in favour of anchor is at least naive thinking.
Actually, guardians have quite high DPS when you go glass, and if it wasn’t obvious enough I go full glass. The only safety net I have on my guard is two blocks, a little heal and 4 secs of prot/regen. Apart from that, full zerk, less than 11k HP and I get absolutely destroyed if I don’t roll properly.
Guardian is still arguably the easiest class for melee combat. I’d say he was specifically designed for that type of combat. After him it would be mesmer and then warrior.
Some people like to run with so-called anchors who are supposed to draw aggro more efficient but from my observations and experience it works very seldom and randomly.
Bleugh that website loads horribly on my phone, I’ll take your word for it.
Hey it’s not my fault none of the DPS traits are in Arms
You don’t use oils? So tell me, what do you use during CoE?
Attack of Opportunity is a dps trait. If I run CoE more often than occasionaly, I’d use potions of undead slaying for alpha, since those golems die fast enough.
You could sit on 103% with fury!? What sort of precision steroids do guardians take!? Unless you’re referring to Sigil of Perception which is very circumstantial….
I sit at 98% with full Zerker gear, runes of Lyssa, banner of discipline, Heightened Focus (+15%) and +8% or so from food and nourishment. Precision scales weird at high percentages but using something like Scholar Runes would just shatter my crit rate, and as far as I’m concerned, every hit that doesn’t crit you may as well not have even swung in the first place (Weakness peeves me off something fierce.)
This simple build shows 102% with fury and that’s without banner (170), precision runes (81) and 2nd nourishment like oil (92 with base toughness and vitality, though noone uses oils in pve). Your warrior build has probably 0 points in arms while guardian has 300. That’s ~14%. Plus, precision doesn’t scale weird, it’s always linear.
There are plenty of people suggesting to help do the experiment by bring an organized group and having Guang be the 5th slot with whatever he’s suggesting would improve the time of (in case of CoF) 1M/4W. That’s exactly what happened with Kitsune, and he proved his case which is why LH ele is a widely accepted component in speed groups now.
But Guang isn’t interested in actually proving his claims, which is why he doesn’t take anyone up on those offers.
That’s rather unfortunate he doesn’t want to do that for whatever reason, but I’m just saying people here shouldn’t do such simple calculations like dividing his damage by time.
Which is particulary caused by the slower killing time. If guang has been a warrior the slaver driver would have probably died in timewarp.
You’re comparing pug with probably a tanky guardian to an organized group playing together longer than 2 minutes.
Strife’s Warrior: 106327/7s —> 15190DPS
Your Ranger: 138978/14s --> 9927DPS
In his defense, Guang’s team had 5-10 vulns stacks and his team had guardian making timewarp not long enough to kill slave driver while Strife’s perma 25 stacks of vulns and did it before timewarp ended.
With some practice it shouldn’t be too bad. It’s like every melee boss out there who doesn’t understand to hit unless you are within “melee-range”. Because all melee weapons can actually hit bit further you can simply back-pedal and keep hitting as long as he is Crippled.
And if you are the only one meleeing, well then it’s really really easy.
I wasn’t even talking about meleeing him since I can understand it’s rather hard for whole group, especially without guardians. But one day maybe we’ll see inviduals brave enough to achieve that.
We have plenty to show how guardians, warriors, and mesmers should play but not much about how to play the other classes well like Engineers, Necros, and Rangers.
I tried once fotm 48 with epidemic necro and hgh engy and frankly it was faceroll, 4- manned it without guardian. But rangers offer nothing. No utility, just self-survival. Damage wouldn’t be an issue if anet had gave them some kind of utility (check mesmer, their dps and utility). What purpose has skill like Guard?
If you had offered the things which could be improved (not saying there arent I have no idea what video you’re referencing or who was in the group) initially rather than making a troll post designed to insult Obal I might treat you with a bit more respect in return. Try thinking about that.
Have you got any problem with me? You seem to think I try to troll you or your friends at every occasion but that’s not the case. I didn’t listed anything because this thread is called “Ranger DPS in Dungeons” and I don’t like to derail threads. Secondly, I don’t insult people publicly because that’s rude and against the rules of these forums. First time we ever spoke you were already very aggresive towards me so I don’t really have any idea what’s wrong but I sincerely hope you would stop with that approach.
Oh so you’re a better player than Obal?
I watched archdiviner video and it seems that almost whole of his party, including him, lacks knowledge about certain game mechanics, probably because they spent too much time on exploiting which he even acknowledges. Improving that part is within reach.
I’m very sad to see what these forums have become. Instead of asking what could have been improved you’re responding with basically ‘whoru?’. Compare your response to obal’s.
Finally, please stop trying to look for sarcasm in my posts.
That’s where the rangers come in!
I don’t mean class dependent damage but rather general performance and overall knowledge about game mechanics tied to a player, not the class he plays.
-snip-
Those videos were very illuminating, thank you. But there is still a lot room for improvement.
Then put 5 engineers together and compare that to 5 warriors.
There is simply no situation in the whole game where i’d prefer an engineer over a warrior. Basically because warrior provides better utility (also including knockdowns, fear), more dps support and more raw damage.
You still don’t understand. Five engineers don’t give any teamsupport 1 or 2 could already give. What you should compare are whole team compositions.
you can solo kill lupi.
im in the US server, ill offer to record your lupi tests or kills if you want.
else i know another way where u can test your dps purely without disturbances if you prefer. only requires a few people, ill record for you.
Don’t like to play advocate but (probably) his spreadsheets assume team support so solo tests are invalid, just like every dps test made strictly for dungeons.

I don’t really see the fire field here. If someone else gives you a combo field fire you could also take LH eles, who additionally grant fury and maintain much higher dps.
First listed skill has fire field.
Really nice ideas.
Fire is going to need more changes than sun spot to be effective for pvp.
Does sun spot inflict burn like EA dodge roll in fire? If not then it is even worse than I thought it is :-(But your ideas would really help improve them. Both of them should be like the earth/fire dodges with EA. (Honestly, I feel fire EA should either a blast finisher or a short duration fire field as well heh.)
Dodge in fire with 0 condition damage deals 1640 damage with burning, while sun spot doesn’t and its power is comparable to stoning.
If you’re trying to reset a dungeon the best way is for the person who started it to swap characters, that should always destroy the instance.
Better way is to kick the instance owner, less loading screens.
Probably i just suck but i didn’t realize any animation that indicates her teleport-shot.
The animation is quite obvious and lasts like 2s. Only problem is that (to my knowledge) you can’t dodge it unless you play mesmer with deceptive evasion. Projectiles reflection will teleport you to her while projectile absorption and blocks work normally.
I said most guardians in PUGs I’ve played with that go full zerker. In PUGs, which is what you were referring to, many guardians have no idea what they’re doing. Sometimes you hit a guardian that is extremely experienced but it’s rare. I’m not saying you don’t know what you’re doing. I’ve never played with you (as far as I know) so if you can go full zerker and not be a liability, then more power to you. It’d be nice to see that more often.
Whatever the case, they often just go full zerker, use a greatsword, and expect the group to carry them. That might work in CoF path 1 but it’s often a recipe for disaster in most other dungeons (especially high level fractals). And it definitely isn’t the best of ideas in AR if you don’t know what you’re doing.
I pug very seldom but everyone except necro in my regular team doing lvl 50+ fractals has no point put in toughness. Almost every dungeon is extremely easy due to the common way of doing them (skipping what you can). The only hard dungeons would be fractals of the mists where certain mobs have so much offensive (20k+ heartseeker with full hp, 40k+ rush, 25k+ flame burst), your defensive stats are worth squat and the only thing the keeps you alive is either dodging or boon upkeep.
This new dungeon promotes stability (strikers) and condition removal (swashbucklers) if you decide to facetank them. None of those things are unavailable to zerker guardians.
I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or serious with this statement. If you agree with what you just said, then good luck with that.
In my experience, most guardians (or any class really) that use full berserker gear are a liability to the group. This isn’t necessarily true of people that know what they’re doing but most don’t have a clue. They believe that higher damage > everything else and then they die. And die. And die. Then they start getting angry at the rest of the group for “sucking” even though we’re all still alive. Or they demand that the group “stacks” (dumbest strategy ever in most situations in this game) so they can minimize how much they’re hit while the rest of the group goes down due to AoE stuns, conditions, or burst damage.
Guardian is the easiest proffesion to play as full zerker. If “most guardians” can’t do it properly, they really have to improve their own survivability.
Lol!!
This made my morning! You have this the wrong way around, mate. Berseker amour is the ‘training wheels’ in this game. Using the worse defensive stats in the game teaches you how to dodge and stay alive. Every new player should be forced to use berseker until at least lvl 80.
Once you have learned to play, then you are ready for ‘grown up’ armour and a balanced build.
I guess you are not there yet
I guess you don’t know what means ‘training wheels’. Here’s a definition. Please, think logically next time.
Derrrrp. No. That attitude only works in very specific situations (Cof1 being an example).
Most fights in this game are designed to be prolonged experiences which means surviving is the most important thing. Zerk guardian is probably the dumbest thing I’ve heard of, really, due to their small health pool, especially in this dungeon where surviving is 70% of the mechanics in most of the fights.
Tell that to better than average pugger player. There’s no dungeon or fractal where full zerker is a bad idea.
(edited by haviz.1340)
The current bug is when you have auto attack on, change attunement or try to “que” a skill / use an instant skill after. All of these will interrupt the 2 skills listed. Anet is aware of the bug as mentioned in the Elementalist live stream
You can use instant skills and swap attunements without interrupting flamewall/shatterstone.
But the risk is trivialized when you bring guardians, so what’s the point? Melee SHOULD be risky, and actually in most circumstances it is not. Fractal 48 ascalonian general and to a lesser extent mossman/archdiviner are a bit more punishing, but the rest are easy to faceroll in melee.
It’s captain, not general.
The main reason it took so long for the LH ele to be considered as a viable option is the same reason why most speedrun groups ran anchor guardians instead of dps guardians until about 4 months ago (~ the same time the LH ele build started appearing). We only started to run even the guard as full deeps when we got better at the game and knew the dungeons better and the same thing can be said to apply to something as squishy as LH ele. Have you played LH ele? this thing can barely stand a couple attacks before going down. It’s constant work to ensure blind or stun on trash mob before they start touching you.
The LH ele at maximum damage potential build doesn’t even have vigor. When you have neither things like the war burst skill/gs ww or vigor to compensate things can get hairy. Fiery GS does offer a ww of its own but it’s not on high availability compared to the hammer.
Some people were running dps guardians shortly after launch and were laughed upon, heh. Anyway, I believe most decent groups run 2 guardians and one of them is that so-called anchor.
I don’t understand..the skill not only doesn’t bug for me but it has been fixed also, now I can cast the auto-attack while it explode
Try queueing any skill or having autoattack turned on during casting of shatterstone. Same thing happens with flamewall.
Since new patch, you cannot also swap utilites while in charr form during urban fractal. That happened with guardian.
i can tell you a couple of things:
1) haviz as Always keeps on flaming without discussing anything but we are used to that…..
2) Conjured build is the BEST for farming cof/coe….but quite useless because you will be booted on sight at cof don t know at coe.
Because you can t take the place of 3 war+1thief+1 mesmer being already the perfect party.3) 0/10/0/30/30 is until the next patch, one of the best dps build for ele…you can rule out anyone saying its a cookie cutter build when you read 2 sotg interview ago devs stating that:
IS UnderPowered in PvE, is balanced in WWW was OP in PvP (but they balance only pvp…..) that pre nerf.4) there is no way you can stick to a single weapon in “challenging” dungeons and still be effective….
You need to change weapon depending on situation.
Zerker gear is mandatory everywhere but you also need a build capable of equipping a staff or a focus, passing from offensive to defensive.COnsidering you can stay easily at 25might with combos, fire line is quite unattractive, water 25 was until next nerf this evening because gave you vitality AND dps.
Do your math try for yourself….
If all you do is cof coe, you can go conjured, but i would advise you to don t waste time and go for a warrior in that case.
P.S. in case of arah abnd fotm 49 passive defenses are uselessdue to the insane damage of mobs….you need active defences, like arcance shields and stuff.
1) How should I discuss with someone claiming that additional precision is waste when he wants those stats on vitality which is quite useless because you’re going to be one-shotted by most mobs anyway.
2) Conjured build is decent everywhere where your team will support you with needed conditions and defense, meaning no pugs. But it’s boring so people don’t run it too often.
3) How can bunker traits be one of the best for dps? Do you need soothing distruption, evasive arcana, cantrip mastery or cleansing water for dps? It’s like saying healing shouts is one of the best dps build for warrior. Your utilities bring nothing to the team, just your own survivability while you can’t even do decent damage by yourself with that overrated and unneeded survivability.
4) You can run d/f everywhere except risen priest of melandru.
full zerkers is a waste, if you are playing right you should have PERMA fury.
Valk/zerk with 0/25/0/25/20 spec.
valk for hps (to not get one shot) and zerk to have over 35% base crit chance.
With my setup, without food, im sitting at 91% crit dmg, and got my first 11k fire grab last night, without doing the stupid piercing shards swap.
All I can say, gratz.
Running zerker with standard 0-10-0-30-30 is like riding the bike with training wheels on.
You don’t have to it’s just that they will be subpar in sustained aoe heavy content like grawl and dredge (esp dredge since plague will be useless there) but no one wants to hear that. The fact is that 99% of the necros out there in pve are just terrible players and they give a bad name to the rest of the class. Same went for mesmers when the game came out, thieves up until about 2 months ago, eles until a month ago, etc. If you like necro more than war and are a good player, then stay on necro and do your own thing. You’ll still be amazing on colossus and grawl (if you know what you’re doing). The chills at the ritual phase and on bubble are highly underrated and none of the “holy trinity” can chill or even cripple a bubbled boss.
The good thing about playing necro is that everyone already expects you to be terrible. As long as you don’t immediately prove them right, you’re going to look god mode.
Necro is really great in fractals like dredges and ascalon. And if by “holy trinity” you mean war/gua/mes you can cripple or immobilize the boss without any traits.
So, you are saying that the coral thing is an exploit (something you heavily implied by saying that Weth would never do such a thing) but hitting through walls mobs that won’t hit you back is not? Double standard much ?
I’m saying that hitting through walls is possible everywhere (even in pvp) and anet didn’t fixed it since launch (and haven’t said anything about that) while they continually try to fix every kind of “ledge”-type exploit in dungs. Coral wasn’t fixed yet because almost no one does p1 and probably no one has even reported it because that boss is kittened for pro-melees team.
Haviz has a very fluid definition of exploits : things he would use aren’t exploits, are never exploits, everything is perfectly legit. Killing any dungeon boss within 10 to 15 seconds with an item that clearly had an unintended side effect (unless you are saying anet actually intended for it to nearly one shot lupicus?) was also perfectly legit. Things used by people he deems unworthy, on the other hand, are dirty exploits.
We all know the drill by now, there’s no use arguing with haviz, dub and all the EU band. It’s like they are clones of each other.
I’m getting quite bored here with your team-a here. I’ll try to use italic font so you can easily understand. I reported every exploit I found in this game and I do not use exploits in regular runs. Killing boss in 10s was discovered by accident and wasn’t used after I reported it. Have a nice exploiting of archdiviner during your perfectly legit 48 runs.
(edited by haviz.1340)
It might be strange for you but some people prefer challenge to farming and they won’t use exploits to justify their inability to faceroll through content.
Since I saw the p2 video I know weth didn’t exploit this one fight, but unlike what you’re saying, he did use exploits for some of his solos so pretending that Weth is too good for that kind of stuff is pure lies. His Caudecus Manor path 2 for example is full of the typical exploits you see in pugs. Unless you really think hitting these mobs through walls was intended.
Hitting anyone behind structure is possible even in pvp so I guess everyone is exploiting that and anet forgot to fix that.
By standing on the coral? Don’t worry, I know the exploits..
If not, I’d be impressed to see a video of you doing it legit.
Don’t worry, Weth is one of the few person I know who won’t use any exploits like most of you would (archdiviner, fixed dredge cage).
STEP 1) Choose 2 people to run sparks. We gave this job to the 2 Guards, more likely to grab aggro, lower DPS.
Any specific reason why guardian is more likely to grab aggro of sparks?
They can’t show videos, not really because they don’t want you to be able to do the same thing (they might try to push out that excuse) but because they know anet would fix it. Anet started caring about the lupicus thing only when the censored video started circulating a bit because it roused too much curiosity among the larger public.
Not showing said video lets them get away with pretending it’s legit and continue abusing said exploits.
I sent anet original version and got positive answer before posting. Secondly, that censored video was private so unless a person I showed it downloaded it and then re-uploaded I don’t see how that vid could have been circulating.
I trust his word but that’s because he’s a well known exploiter. It’s not a 4 legit runs, it’s an exploit run. Look up the DnT 46 second lupicus kill thread and you’ll see how at one point they (dub and friends) claimed the record on killing lupicus.. by using an item that one shot him and got banned from dungeons by anet right after the video began circulating around.
I never claimed any record, just stated the current state of the game. He wasn’t one shot but killed in about 15s. The video was heavily edited to the point you had no idea what that was about and original version had been sent to Robert before even I edited that video.
25 minutes p4 run is fully legit, no exploits except skipping mobs are being used. If you can’t do it, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. inb4 fraps or it didn’t happen
Yes that’s why in the previous thread you all insisted on how this 15s lupicus was not an exploit blabla until it was finally fixed then you finally dropped the whole it’s legit act. We know the drill.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Lupicus-46-Second-Speed-Kill/page/2
It’s about using same thing you were using during one of your speed run and there’s no exploit involved.[…]
Some people are able to squeeze out maximum dps of other proffesions than warrior.Quoth haviz.
Or that was intended.. as a joke ? The sky’s the limit in how you could explain the previous behaviors.
Your very definition of exploit obviously does not follow anet’s definition.
Things are deemed as an exploit the moment anet decides to do it, not when some players decides that the only valid strategy is their own. That thing has been working since the launch and the best part is that it still does, just not in dungeons.
Another thing, didn’t anet fixed feedback “exploit” on lupi so it can’t reflect more than ~20 projectiles?
That sentence was trollish in nature since you can’t discuss exploits in details.

Purely speculating.
Lightning flash and cleansing flame.
We play full beserker on fractals 79 too. Even our guardian is beserker most of the time. If you get hit you take such massive damage from each mob that you’ll die anyway regardless of armour/health. Might as well get beserker and deal damage. Considering the mobs (let alone bosses :| ) have a ridiculous amount of health on 79, might as well speed it up by bringing some damage.
Don’t take it offensive but by full zerker people usually mean that every piece of your equipment is zerker.
Do you even understand that he takes different water traits than you would normally take with 3 cantrips? Complain more how ele is bad because you basically run bunker spec with 3 stunbreakers and zerker gear.
D/D needs a proper build? Only thing you probably need is 10 in air magic. No wonder you complain about dps while playing bunker trait spec. Plus, last 3 stacks from churning earth you gain after you finish casting it.
He doesn’t run 0-10-0-30-30 or 10-10-0-20-30 so why do you want to include that? You’ll be doing much less damage than him anyway.
Plus, focus has 2 blasts as well. They have shorter recharge but are harder to land since flamewall has smaller area of effect.
Additional stacks of might won’t trigger bountiful power.
Just PvE favours melee.
Do people really go full zerker in higher fotm? I’m 30+ but I can’t see how I can survive trash with 2100 armor. I’m not talking about guild group where you get perfect combination of classes and skills. I mostly pug and I’m currently running 6 piece knight armor w/ everything else berserker.
My current team is far from ideal (we even got a necro!) and in my opinion toughness wouldn’t really help you since mobs hit really hard while having more hp than silver mobs in standard dungeons.
Since I’m not sure how else explain it in words, I’ll make a video demonstrating this when I get home in a few hours.
Don’t bother, d/d is the best set and ele needs help because its best weapon set is bad.
