No one said you won’t be able to see the personal level of each party member. This system’s gonna be great for friends and guildies that have similiar but not identical levels. It should be implemented from day one.
Similiarly, I use 15/0/30/20/5, full zerker and I rarely go to downed state.
Lupicus skills are indeed projectiles that can be reflected. The reason not all projectiles can be reflected by ele focus #4 skill is because the damage from the projectiles comes from their explosion upon impact. If you can reflect the projectiles before it hits the ground, itll bounce back, otherwise if it hits the ground, itll blow up.
Thanks for that explanation. Probably why mimic and magnetic aura don’t work.
Single bolt and barrage are both projectile skills.
For single bolt i suggest watching a video and getting familiar whith its animation (specially his hands). With a good party spreading, there’s no doubt about who the target is and then it’s just a dodge.
For an elementalist, focus has 2 projectile counters on fairly low CD. Using them for the barrage attack should allow you to absolute ignore it and save all your endurance against the teleport and the single bolts.
For a thief, you have smoke screen. It blocks projectiles for 7 sec on 30 sec CD (24 if traited for deceptions), so it should be enough to prevent at least half of the barrages.
Also, if using a short bow, you get an initiative based evade, so endurance management becomes trivial.
Thief also has shadow refuge as a long lasting stealth that should prevent Lupicus from focusing at him if needed to res, refill endurance and/or initiative or get some time for CDs.Since i don’t know both classes at all, there are probably a lot of tips and tricks to add.
Magnetic Wave (focus #4 earth) doesn’t work for big aoe (at least for me) but you have obsidian flesh which is even better then mist form. If you got problems with single projectiles why not going near him, they have minimal range so you’re quite safe near him.
Good we have an understanding. I’m just warning people from a situation where they finally fix it and people will be whining how bad anet is for destroying their another farm.
Keep thinking that there isnt 2 types of DR and ill keep getting 700+ cof tokens a day by taking advantage of how to avoid the 2 DR’s.
Did you at least read that quote or want me to quote another one? I’m well aware how it works, I’m saying it doesn’t work as intended (according to devs statements).
Keep up the farming and wait till devs will finally find out that people wait 2hrs and swap. On the sidenote, I was getting about 500 tokens in one day for arah but got bored.
This thread again, do people not know how to use the search function.
@haviz: Powercat has it correct, what you might not realize is that there are 2 DIFFERENT types of DR in place. One being account bound, the other being dungeon path bound. It is quite easy to mistake the 2 DR’s into the same DR.
No, he’s correct because it’s not working as intended. Read devs posts. When they fixed DR system (when folks were getting random amount of tokens) they tied path completion to account. Getting less tokens for repeating same paths isn’t called DR. Getting 60 is called daily bonus. There are no 2 differents types of DR.
Ok, well I’m speaking from experience, as I regularly run dungeons with two toons and have learned the DR’s quirks and consistently get the 60 tokens.
Whether you choose to double your tokens or not is up to you.
What you said is correct but it might change with one patch because it’s not working as intended (according to devs’ statements).
Sorry Kumakichi, but that is not accurate.
There is a account DR, but it’s more complex than that:
Toon X does CoF path 1 and 2 – 60 tokens every time
Now immediately switch to toon Y and do the same, you’ll be hit by DR because you repeated the same path too rapidly.Wait 2-3 hours then do the path on toon Y – you’ll get normal rewards.
My strategy is to do my runs early evening with toon X, then switch to Y and do more.
Always leave a good 2 hours between repeating the same path, on different toons.
Yes, you will get 60 tokens every time if you wait for your second “set”.
You will also encouter a DR if you do too many dungeon runs too rapidly. however you will get 45 tokens for hitting the “tooo many paths too rapidly DR”
The “same path too rpaidly DR” simply halves the tokens. 60, then 30, then 20 for all otehr runs.
Here’s a huge thread discussing this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Dungeon-DR-is-now-account-bound-never-got-it-before-today/
Sorry PowerCat, but that is not accurate. Kumakichi is correct. It’s probably bugged at the moment but soon™ it might be changed. Here are words from Robert, one of the devs:
it’s tied to the daily achievement system, which applies to all characters. This was an issue when we had our tokens soulbound, but now that they are account bound we don’t feel we need to offer the bonus first-run tokens to every character on an account.
Even another dev (Jon) confirms that in the thread you linked.
Kill the oozes.
If you run past them and the gravelings kill them, Detha will be bugged and there is NO FIXING IT.
It’s faster just to kill on your way to the final room then it is to run past, get bugged and have to wait 5 minutes to reset and try again.
You could also unbug them on 2nd set of oozes. But I agree, don’t skip them, just kill. Less time wasted.
That’s the whole point. You don’t have to do lower lvl dungeons if you don’t want to do them and you can participate in higher lvl dungeons without any significant grind before.
You can’t play D/D without a bunker build and pow/tough/vit gear below 80. You simply need those boon duration increases and the whole toolkit to compensate for your low base health and armor.
Play staff or scepter/dagger until you can run the build linked above. Even then, glass cannon d/d is not viable at all in PvE dungeons. You need to have above 1600 toughness and 16k+ HP to be able to survive in melee.
Wrong
I’ve been glass cannon D/D on lupi in melee range for phase 2/3 without dying.
Why not in phase 1? You could also try D/F once. Focus gives so much defense there it’s unbelievable people still use staff.
To avoid grubs spawning in melee range
. So I was just nuking the grubs in p1.
Why not use your dodge button?

AC story mode is particularly horrible. It tries to teach you what you should and shouldn’t do in a dungeon is rather harsh way.
However, the bosses are easy. Then Ranger isn’t really hard, and for the others, use boulders. That’s the thing with AC story mode, you must use gimmicks to defeat the bosses.
Yes you could bother to kill them the “real” way, but why bother risking your life when you keep the boss on the ground ? It even works on the lovers. Push them together with boulders and then you’ll be able to knockdown both of them with only one rock.
How are boulders a gimmick?
But why have DR anymore now that supposedly majority of the bots are gone?
I do not understand what is wrong with grinding in non-subscription based game, especially this one. Since gear is cosmetic only (for now cough), what is wrong with allowing player to just grind constantly 24/7 if that is what they want to do?
And I can answer my own question: greed
Everyone is inherently greedy and Anet is no exception. They place these restrictions on the player base because they do not want anyone rich or for people to acquire what they want without going through one thing: the gem store. At the end of the day, the reason why this stupid childish system is in place is because Anet is greedy and they want your money. They could care less about the community.

DR isn’t for bots, it’s for exploiters. And getting 20 tokens instead of 60 isn’t DR.
i thought you can avoid the dimishing return of different characters by completing all the path of a dungeon with one character before doing it again with another characters ?
for example :
char 1 : path 1 2 3
then
char 2 : path 1 2 3
…no ?
No. You can just simply wait 2hrs.
My question is why does explorable dungeon give more than FOTM when on every scale, FOTM is a much more challenging dungeon. Explorable dungeons can be cleared in a matter of minutes while FOTM at 20+ could take from an hour to 3 hours (depending on fractal, professions, internet connection of party members).
I cannot comment on anything above 30 but I’m sure it would require much more effort.
I thought people were doing fractals specifily because it gives better loot. Fractals can be cleared in minutes as well (swamps).
So im running an elementalist, we have two thief’s, and the other two vary on who we find. The Elementalist is not really the ideal profession for this fight… I would really like some help. Me and my guild are finding alot of frustration trying to get these tokens.
The elementalist is one of the best proffesion for that fight. If not the best.
Simin now goes invulnerable before she is invis, starts regening before she is invis, and remains invulnerable the entire time that she is invis.
Oh and also on p3 the very first open door slams shut in your face with 0 warning and 4 silver elite corpses reply to your shock and unawareness by severely smashing your face in.
Happened to me even AFTER I cleared the mobs in front of the area (always do for chance of rares). I was solo so this was really disappointing. I LIKE to solo those bosses and the next one, was fun. Now you can’t do it (or at least I can’t solo 4 arah silver elites).
Those aren’t broken events. They are part of the updates.
A good group shouldn’t take 30 minutes to run a single path of AC. The trash is few and far between and doesn’t take long to kill. Don’t accuse me for exploiting dungeons and skipping things just because you can’t do it. I can admit where I have exploited, but I used this as an example because I did it legitimately and still hit DR. Hell, I don’t even pull Kohler down the stairs, I fight him up on the platform with his adds. And CoF doesn’t take long by any means. With some of my friends, CoF path 1 took about 15 minutes without skipping any mobs. CoF 2 is like 20, there isn’t even really anything to skip in 2.
The exclamation mark at the end of sentence should have told you I was joking.
I haven’t said you exploit on daily basis, I merely stated what Anet expects of average group. And based on that expectation they put (estimated) 2 hour timer on 4 paths. If you do 5 paths in that time you gonna hih DR. CoF p1 takes about 8 minutes.
And for the character swapping. I would rather have the DR conditions be clear and defined rather then have them keep it a secret for absolutely no good reason. If we’re not supposed to be able to swap characters to get full rewards then fix it. If it is intended, then I stand by my statement that the 1-2 hour buffer is pointless and completely unnecessary.
Here is the quote from Robert:
it’s tied to the daily achievement system, which applies to all characters. This was an issue when we had our tokens soulbound, but now that they are account bound we don’t feel we need to offer the bonus first-run tokens to every character on an account.
Feel free to interpret it in anyway.
You’re supposed to be able to run the same path across different characters without hitting DR but it’s stupid that it puts a 1-2 hour buffer between doing this. If I want to run dungeons back to back on different characters I should be able to do that. IIRC, it was something like 30 or 45 tokens if you do it between characters without waiting.
If I were you I would be happy you can wait 1-2hr and swap to get 60 tokens again because when they finally find out that their system isn’t working properly (atm you can bypass it by waiting 1-2hrs) you will be getting 20 tokens ALWAYS for repeating same paths.
Also, in my experience, if you run 5 dungeon paths within a certain time frame (Something like 2 hours) you will hit DR. This is stupid. I’ve run AC all 3 paths without skipping mobs and then done paths 1 and 2 of CoF which there really isn’t much at all to skip, and been hit with DR for it.
So, you ran 5 fastest paths in the game in 2 hours when they said that average path should take about 30 minutes. You obviously meet the criteria of exploiter!
3 months too late but better late than never. On some servers Arah have been bugging after 2 hrs of server restart. There were numerous reports about that issue.
If you want bunker build specificly for arah don’t do that. Just go glass cannon. Kill them before they can kill you. Plus your runs will be faster.
Which dungeon / part are you talking about, and why should it be completely removed? Can it not be altered in some way?
I think he’s mostly referring to TA and pull with at least 1 knight (+sorcs).
What bosses are you talking about? How should they be redesigned? What is so bad about the current design?
Possibly TA as well.
Why? Can you give any examples?
HoTW underwater bosses have too much hp.
Why? Wouldn’t this destroy the market value of rares / exotics even further? How could an item that has a 75% chance of appearing in a chest be called rare?
It’s rare when it drops from trash mob. Chests after bosses should have improved loot table. I won’t say to what degree because that’s up for desingers to decide, but improvements are needed.
There are 8 different FotM fractals— which stage/stages are you referring to? What would be the exact number or range that you would be okay with? Why?
I think those 12 pulls refers specificly in contrast to fractals. As in, in fractals there are far less pulls than in standard dungeons.
It certainly is better, but without explaining “why there’s a problem” or “why changing something would be better” or explaining “exactly how you’d like to see it changed, with specific, clear examples,” I can’t fully understand your issues. I tried to focus in on exactly what I’m referring to by quoting each individual section of your post and asking [what i consider to be reasonable] questions.
Something is clear enough when answers to most of those questions are already there.
There are clearly some pressing issues with dungeons, otherwise anet wouldn’t have said they would rework them.
Patch Notes:
General
- Fear is now properly affected by Defiant.
It was in patch notes. And it’s a good change. Necros are no longer OP ;P
I have 6 80’s, 2 of them in full arah, dungeon master icon, and I think p4 is near impossible to finish. Also you don’t really know what you’re talking about because NO ONE farms p4 for the tokens, everyone farms 1,2, and 3 for them so slightly nerfing 1 boss in the 4.5h exp run, that is arah p4, won’t change anything about people wearing arah gear. Sure there are a select few people who farm arah p4 but those are the people who have already got their gear, have a great team, and just want to run the hardest path of the hardest dungeon so they can say they did it.
I have 3 80s in full arah, some weapons, dungeon master icon, and I think p4 is near possible to finish. Path 4 should take you about 70-90 minutes without skipping. Noone farms p1 because its actually longer than p4 with a competent team and until last patch you could have not get tokens for it. Stop making a teams of 5 proffesions in pvt gear.
-snip-
True, he resets sometimes but very rarely, you had to be very unlucky to get it on your first round (happened once in about 80+ fights). You shouldn’t resign yourself from trying again.
Plus, who told you you can’t fight in melee?
Why should “Reckless Dodge” allow you to exit the bubble when the trait is just supposed to add some damage at end of roll?
That seems to be the issue at hand – is that wreckless dodge is cancelling out the behavior intended for the bubble.
Any dodge can get out of the bubble.
Em, no. Depending what’s your proffesion (and what traits you have).
Learn to play and stop skipping all the content.
I can’t believe this long into this dungeon and people still have issues dodging Kholer when I demand we fight him or get nailed by scavs. All people know how to do is speed run; it’s so annoying. I’ve never had Detha bug because I kill the oozes and the gravelings as well before.
I can already see you clearing all arah. People skip cause mobs drop kittens.
Yes, you react Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner. You’re Road Runner.
Thanks for reporting those issues. Detha’s problem is certainly involved with the oozes and her scripting, and I will go in again to to try and tighten that up a bit. I’m considering just making it so that the gate won’t open until the oozes are dead because it sounds like problems are caused when trying to skip that mob.
This would effectively increase the time for an AC #2 run by 5-10 minutes or more, and potentially incur additional repair costs for players who can’t avoid the scavenger pounces (in the hallway just before the stairs up to the oozes). These are just trash mob encounters. Remember, most players after the first time just want to complete the run as fast as possible, get their 60 tokens and 26 silver, and head to the next, different exp path they plan to farm in that session.
Is there no other way to fix this bug with Detha?
It takes you 5-10minutes to kill a few ooze? Lolwut
It’s pretty hilarious when you look at that but I guess he meant that you have to kill one group of gravelings, including champion. That’s about 2 minutes more.
Get Warrior who rushes through solo.
If you want to use that suit perma-swiftness helps a lot.
Hey, hey, hey. Let’s not ignore other proffesions! You can rush through with guardian or elementalist as well. Haven’t tried on mesmer but I suspect it’s pretty doable with buffs to swiftness sources for mesmer. Also expecting a thief to run that through will all those shadowsteps and stealths.
Path 3 is the easiest and the shortest but if you skip almost all mobs path 2 is only slightly longer. Longest is arguably path 1 or path 4, depending how long simin would take (for experienced group that might be about 5 minutes with all preparations).
It might be pug friendly in about 2 years when pugs will get on this level.
She seems to glitch almost every time I try to skip those first mobs. Try clearing everything before.
It’s pretty easy to comprehend, really.
KnockBACK cc skills (and now fear, too, since it finally doesn’t work through defiant yet is pretty close to the generally least useful knockbacks) are used to tear down defiant stacks. When the boss is clean and can eat next cc, don’t spam the hell out of your skills – wait for a big hit to interrupt or for your mesmer to drop time warp before you knockDOWN the boss.
With the amount of cc most professions can throw, fighting bosses without defiant (or working in any other way) would end up in 2 people cc-locking the boss and 3 others safely dpsing them, leading them to the creation of PvE duo – the glass dpser & the controller.Kholer can be interrupted just fine. There is a bug, though – you see ‘interrupt’ on your screen even when you drop a cc skill onto a defiant stack.
About coordinating cc in pugs – just ctrl+click the defiant-rending skill before using it, then drop it to avoid hitting with two knockbacks on the last defiant stack.
It’s not possible with pugs. They don’t pay attention. I tried numerous times, even explained before the fight.
I’ve entered in this post to read about my class (Guardian) and endup reading only about Warrior vs Thief dmg.
Same ;< I smell moderators already lurking here.
Soooooo many bad players in this game. I honestly think this community is worse than wow’s. I know for a fact i never puged with so many bad players as I have in this game. This topic is proof positive of it.
I have my Dm title since the second week of launch and beat her without full exotic gear or weapons. if some people can beat it and you cant, guess what, it isnt the fight. its you. Your NOT VERY GOOD.
try simin now without full exotic, I DARE you. She can no longer be damaged both before she goes invisible (for like 3s before, and she also starts healing then) and the entire time that she is invisible. You can’t even do the leave 1 prison open trick anymore, that’s also “fixed”.
I have my DM title too but I also got it before they “fixed” Simin.
The group that I tried it with today was doing as much dps as possible and getting the sparks back in within 10s and without fail she would reinvis at 50%. I’m just glad I was an alt. My bud who was there originally was one of the unfortunate few who were stuck in there for 7h.
A friend joined a random group and they did it. So i guess it’s possible.
If you want this fight not to take 10 minutes or longer, be brave and melee him (all 5 people) at least in phase 1 and 2. Best if you have one elementalist or guardian (mesmer might work too, haven’t tried that yet). Phase 3 might be a bit too risky with all in melee range.
-snip-
Yes, let’s make dungeons even more tedious! Brilliant idea. Your idea is curing symptoms, not a source of problems. What they need to change so people wouldn’t skip EVERY single trash mob encounter is to give them better loot and a chance to get tokens (not 0.01% for 2 tokens).
Warrior-type dps is currently the best in dungeons. Clearing trash right now is best if you go full glass cannon and kill them before they kill you. Which probably wasn’t how they were designed.
After some thoughts, I’m really wondering how that would work in Arah which is crawled with optional mobs. Do you want people to kill 400 trash there to spend eternity at pointless activity (especially when most people try to build tanking/survivability gear)
(edited by haviz.1340)
I was wrong. I just got hit by the bubble for the first time since the latest patch, and I could not roll out of it. I actually got hit on it by purpose to see if it was still possible. Either they changed something last patch or my husband and I were getting really lucky rolling out of it for all the runs it took us to get our Arah sets.
Sorry if I misled anyone. I’m taking down my graph to make sure no one else is misled.
Necros can still dodge out, just tried with one.
About Arah p3, 2nd boss takes longer to kill than legendary abomination which is pretty illogical. Why was that change pushed through? He was really easy, he’s still is. Just takes longer to kill (yes, all melees, 4 with 100b).
Just did this fight on a necro. You can dodge out without any traits easily. Can’t reproduce it on guardian and can reproduce it on ele with evasive arcana. Overally, nerf necros, they’re too stronk.
There are occasional bugs in path 2.
For you ,I bet.Its the most idiotic argument I’ve ever heard.
Please elaborate. Why would you pick a thief over a class that could solo the hardest boss in the game?
Thieves can’t solo him because they depend on stealth. Plus, only certain proffesions can get out of the necrid trap with simple dodge.
yet what’s this i see, Arah path 3 has new mobs spawning that were not mentioned in the patch notes, yet no increased rewards from the path itself.
.I did add 4 veterans to path 3 at the start. Having to kill 4 veteran mobs isn’t such an endeavor as to give more rewards for doing it. Considering also the difference between say the Seer path and the Forgotten path, it’s still easier and faster while rewarding the same amount.
You also changed crusher, hunter and mage boss to legendary status. Seems like crusher has more hp, hunter a bit less and mage’s hit points were increased at least twice. It increases by a bit a completion time. Please increase rewards for long dungeons instead of making short paths even longer.
I just did path 3 last night with a pug and lupicus was such a pain that most of the party quit there and we had to recruit new people. I think the last straw for them was when lupicus reset during phase 1 while we were all attacking him…. But I think lupi might be more manageable if his phase 2 projectile explosion was toned down, maybe if it had half the number of shots or maybe a few shots and summoned some locusts. P1 and P3 are fine, its P2 that makes people ragequit.
P2 is easier than P3. Projectile explosion is very easy to dodge or you could just zigzag and avoid them completely.
Scepter is heavy hitter but it’s too slow atm. Even cc doesn’t help.
lupicus isn’t too hard. The problem is that you can’t run with undergeared noobs who don’t know how to play their class or don’t try to figure out how the boss works. Also, taking some heavies with you (guardian, warrior) helps a lot.
Take one ele with S/F, even better with IX trait in air line. Now you’re team is immune to his AoE. Or better. Get everyone in melee range, watch for his kicks and faceroll him in 1 minute or faster in phase 2 (which gives the most troubles for pugs).
