One guy should be on tears duty. If he has Simple Party UI turned off he can see whenever anyone gets petrify and throw tear at the correct moment.
And it’s really easily avoided by taing your armour and jewelry off right?
It’s not even necessary. For death by falling down you don’t break your equipment. Also, jewelry can’t be broken, only backback and armour.
You won’t convience people that running sparks is reliable way to get it done.
If sparks fixated on party members and didn’t kitten around, it’d be much, MUCH easier to do it “properly” instead of the 4-1 spark trick.
Does it even work now? Wasn’t it “fixed”?
It wasn’t and people that don’t run sparks should just go on the side to not aggro them incidentally.
But i still think alot of the sucess was the spark running and tear throwing
You won’t convience people that running sparks is reliable way to get it done. They got into’s their heads that you have to do 4-1 tactic and then dps as fast as possible to kill her in one sweep. And for that you need specific party composition. Yes, you need pretty good dps to kill her (so 5 bunkers will probably have some issues) but you don’t have to try the route that most pugs do and fail.
You should have told them that for falling down you don’t pay repair bills.
I’d just like to point out, not everyone who buys slot for Arah path is necessarily stupid. There are a lot ppl that make over 5g/hour for those it is actually profitable to buy a slot for Arah p4 for 5g rather than to do the path for 3hrs.
You shouldn’t call a person stupid before you know what his gold income is and what his reasons behind buying a slot in a team are…
There’s only one reason to buy slot for p4. Your excuse is pretty far-fetched. People aren’t stupid for buying it, they just don’t want to try or can’t complete that path.
Randall really needs to be fixed. I did path 4 today and these were the outcomes:
- On the first run, we purposely let Randall die before we engaged Lupi. However this seems to glitch Lupi as he wouldn’t turn hostile. We had to restart.
- On the second run, Randall fed 3 grubs to Lupi, making the fight harder than it needed to be.
Good idea is to start fight with Randall and when he dies, reset the fight.
I see mostly (if not only) killing undergeared, upscaled characters. This is hardly a proof of that build being good.
This actually only happens when there is nobody attacking Lupicus, I guess he got bored? Example Scenario; 4 players of the team dodges his AoE missles out of range while he’s locked on to a thief that took severe damage dropping his health below 25% health triggering Blinding Powder from “Last Refuge” trait which can cause the boss to reset because there is no other targets. A lot of thing can happen when other players scatter around when dodging his attacks, just make sure one player is constantly attacking him.
How’s that the situation you just described?
I got 10-12k health more than in glascannon setup and a good amount of toughness, too. I think its worth it more than doing crits.
We shouldn’t derail thread but pvt equipment gives you about 6k-7k vitality/toughness, not 10-12k. No sane glass cannon won’t put 20-30 points in toughness line because it gives crit dmg. Also, crits give you vigor = more surv.
End of offtopic.
To OP, which “end boss” you refer to? Because simin (arguably hardest, or most annoying for pugs) isn’t the end boss.
I am playing power vit toughness guardian.
I’m playing zerker guardian ;< 4th trap will kill me.
Giganticus Lupicus isnt that hard. I can easily stay alive while the rest of my group wiped and runs back.
It really depends on the phase, your profession and luck. If he casts 4 necrid traps in succession, you can’t really survive that on glass cannon proffesions that aren’t warrior/elemenatlist/necromancer because you can’t dodge out of it and you will lack skills that grant stabi/invuln/evade/block.
Howdy folks, I recently have got my thief to lvl 80 and I started experimenting with different builds but I still haven’t found satisfying one. I would want glass cannon with some survivability for start, maybe later full glass cannon. So please refrain from posting support/SR rezzer/cond dmg/tanky builds.
Right now I’m using valky armour with emeralds orbs, zerker weapons and zerker trinkets with knight’s amulet. Traits are 10/30/0/15/15. Weapons are interchangeable, depending on encounter.
I got second build with zerker armour with 3 sets of might stacking runes, traits are 0/30/25/0/15. Trinkets and weapons same as before.
I have done a lot of dungeons (about 500) with glass cannon spec (d/d ele) so I have some experience with mitigating damage.
Is this the boss where you can just go melee, dodge some attacks and kill boss in few mins?
Nah, this one is with spiders.
Just pmed one of those guys selling spots. They do whole path 4 except last boss and invite 4 people. They do it in about 2h which is pretty long if you would ask me. My first try there was faster -.-.
Seems like you’re just mad you don’t get a easy ride because you can’t afford it. If I wanted something bad, I’d pay for it. 15g isn’t a lot.
Pretty lame, buying achievements for something you can’t do. People are mad because it will devalue dm title (though its value is already pretty low).
Congratulations on your capability to complete it by pulling sparks properly, that is your pat on the back. While you are congratulating yourself read upwards about all the people who have encountered issues having them slot into where they need to go, having issues drawing aggro, etc, etc, then count up the number of posts that have had no issues with the DPS. After that come to the hard realization that more people are suggesting DPS and of those people they are all successful by that method, have failed by others organized or non organized methods and see that consistently that is the easiest option people are arriving to to complete the path.
No one is saying pulling sparks is not possible but EVERYONE is saying that the DPS method is FAR easier. No one is stopping anyone from patting themselves on the back, by all means go ahead…but that does not change my comment and the accuracy of it.
Rewinding and playing back statements that pulling sparks is achievable is a waste of your energy. If you want to do this CONSISTENTLY and not worry about the quirks of the design of this mission of which we all are saying exist, plan to bring DPS. You will overcome the design 10 times out of 10 by de-weighting your requirements to pull and bypassing any issues you would have doing so and on top of that you can run the sparks the right way if you like pats.
DPS method is obviously not how anet wants players to do it. Their latest fix confirms that.
Seriously, worry about your own problems. These individuals found something that is not an exploit, they are just selling their knowledge of a dungeon and want to make money off it. They are basically henchmen/heroes for hired. I myself don’t do this but I see no reason for stopping them, they need to make money also in this game.
If I ever were to do it, I would use known shortcuts straight to lupi, saves time for killing 3 yawning bosses.
If Anet sees this as a problem, then they will patch it (most likely by making it impossible to switch character once inside).
Nooooooooooooo, how am I gonna lvl up another alt from lvl 10 ;(
bugs are bugs and speaking as if they do not exist does not change the bugginess of the spark run. If you want a CONSISTENT finish of this level, DPS, timewarps, etc.
I’m sorry but I fail to see which bugs you guys are talking about.
Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to do TEN PERFECT spark runs one after another to beat her.Aggro them and drag them over their slot, the area where you place them is even larger than the visible circle.
He’s talking about most people’s inability to pull sparks properly
That’s why you see posts about necessity to have 3-4 warriors and mesmer with timewarp in that encounter.
^ You sir, are so unbelievably right, i am selfish, now for the rest…
I’m fairly certain it is stated that a dungeon should be ran how you want? correct?
If i dont want to use my 1 run per day to skip all the mobs i am not going to, so rather than kick me and look for another pug the party usually decides to follow my que and start killing the mobs, especially on the occasions where i do it on Jade Maw – not been kicked there once funnily enough.Let the haters hate – Gives me more Enjoyment out of playing the game so i am happy.
Problem is, as you’ve said, you run mostly fractals where most of the loot comes from killing trash. In old dungeons, killing trash is a complete waste of time. They drop worse items than you can get in open world for the same effort. And dungeons are supposed to be end game. So people skip to get those shiny tokens faster. In fractals, I’m up for clearing them because mobs have much better loot tables.
So what if the group failed and didn’t get past Simin. Does that mean they get a partial refund lol.
Or they accept u and boot all of them out right b4 lupi
I think those “smugglers” invite you after they killed simin. One guy stays, rest leaves and then he invites people for money finishing last boss. Pretty good money for 70-90 minutes of work (or even less if they skip straight to lupi killing only him, grenth’s and dwayna’s priestesses).
-snip-
This fight is hardly ranged favorable.
Phase 1 is dull because you choose it to be dull.
During phase 2 he doesn’t burrow, he shadowsteps (semantics). You don’t have to dodge his single projectiles, moving in zig-zag patterns is enough.
The only problem with lupi is the case where he randomly resets (even when 5 people are fighting him) but I guess you should be thanking for that people who were pulling him to waypoint because he was too hard.
The whole fight is well tought and designed, unlike other bosses’ fights.
WoW uses the perma aggro to try and thwart this – Thieves can still stealth out of the aggro of a mob, but they should train onto the rest of the group.
It’s just silly. Also, the bugs caused by skipping are unreal. So it’s not really designed to be skipped, is it?
It’s not WoW. Secondly, what purpose would Area Stealth combo fields serve?
Of course it’s not designed for skipping. But if you need about 20 runs for whole armour, after 5th run you gonna skip unless you have masochistic tendencies. Instead of fixing what is not broken give mobs better loot tables because mobs in open pve have better ones (and they die 50 times faster while posing 50 times less threat).
You mean the one who didn’t know half of the fight?
But he claimed he have done it!!
Why would you skip in HotW? Good loot from trash mobs.
Because staying awake during bosses’ fights is already way too much for some people.
I would like a really long dungeon (like maybe 8-9 hours long) to be made BUT you can save your progress.
You already have one but without ability to save your progress.
You picked wrong dungeon to support your claim. HoTW is known for unrealistic hp levels.
My feedback?
1. Don’t fix what’s not broken. Perma aggro lol, so thieves might as well be deleted.
2. Classes aren’t balanced because how many balancing patches did we have?
3. There’s no such thing as party leader in dungeon, it’s instance owner.
4. Find friends instead of relying on some automatic system to find baddies similiar to you. It’s a mmo for crying out loud, social aspects need to exist.
lupi got majorly nerfed? else could you link the evidence for that?..
He wasn’t nerfed and using google shouldn’t hurt you but still http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3tmLBu7smA

and the fact that some players can solo lupi… nothing else to add.
—Bit off-topic but just too curious. Do you know someone else?
I heard one ranger have done it.
Sure, if you’re playing on EU server. And let me get 1 more player I know so you gonna have those 2 people who know what to do.
1. Knowing what to do means little when what you have to do it with zero margin for error.
2. Achievement points mean nothing…but the group I roll with all have 2.5k or more.
3. I just did it in a group with all five of us knowing how to do it, all of us thinking instead of trying to “faceroll,” and it still failed.
In short, your statement is invalid in the light of the facts. Please stop trolling me.
Arena Net:
A response would be lovely. Just saying.
1. You have some margin for error, grab defensive utilities, swap traits, think.
2. I’ve said it wasn’t really good indicator but better than nothing (guy with 1k is probably worse than guy with 3k)
3. If you failed, you must have done something wrong,
What facts? That you failed despite not trying to faceroll? How’s that a fact?
How are my posts trolling you? What do you want to hear from Anet? That they gonna nerf him so everyone can farm arah like ac/cof? You already are able to, it’s even faster. I’d rather think they would make those farmspots more harder than make harder-than-average dungeon easier for newcomers.
What this guy said.
Who’s the other one? Simin? Alpha?
Probably Alpha, but I haven’t fought him countless times to form my own opinion. He was pretty easy.
If the entire party does everything perfectly, sure.
I’m not saying make him a piece of cake. Make him doable in a PUG situation.
And here I thought anet was designing dungeons for hardcore groups, not pugs. They even said that they think dungeons would be too easy once players would get used to them. Last dungeon should represent something more difficult than your casual dayfarm ac/cof.
Besides, he’s very doable in pugs. I’m pugging from time to time and maybe once or twice he resetted because whole party wiped (in about 100+ runs).
Gear checks plus rng = fractals. He just described what they did.
Good point.
Doesn’t mean this kitten is good, especially in this game.
He also said it was the easiest way. Easiest = often the most lazy design.
Now that I figured out how to find my posts. -.-
I just tried it again (same group), and while he didn’t reset until we all died, it was like I was doing no damage.
This boss is just so f—-ing frustrating, I’m contemplating giving up on the Arah armor (and possibly the game, though probably not) entirely.
His barely frustrating if you start thinking instead of trying to faceroll him like 99% of other bosses. If you’re pugging, try taking people with more than 2.5k achievement points, it’s not good indicator but better than nothing. You only need 2 people who know what to do there.
Easiest way to make dungeons last is to add gear-checks.
Yes.
And the some RNG.
NO NO NO. There’s enough RNG bullkitten with the ring kitten as is.
Gear checks plus rng = fractals. He just described what they did.
This.
This boss is making me want to quit playing this game. Seriously. One boss, in one dungeon, keeping me away from super awesome armor.
I’m so close to screaming curse words at my computer and quitting Guild Wars 2 forever.
Don’t nerf the one of the only two challenging bosses in normal dungeons. Adapt and he’s easy.
Seeing as how you cannot accurately measure dps, your argument about time then goes out the window.
You can’t measure dps accurately, but you can compare two different methods of applying damage by comparing time, that should be pretty obvious.
Because farming ac/cof shouldn’t let you pick armours from harder dungeons, no matter the cost.
Why are people still doing these dungeons at all? The rewards are really poor, they take way too long, and are frustrating as hell. Currently nothing about them is any fun, especially Arah is pure torture. There are so many other elements of the game that are more enjoyable. Is it the challenge? Is it the armor?
Because some people find them easy?
If I recall correctly, that always was the case. They are simple invulnerable to all damage.
Didn’t they just reduce all your damage to 0 instead? If so you could at least pull them in.
No, they were always invulnerable. They have aggro based on proximity.
If I recall correctly, that always was the case. They are simple invulnerable to all damage.
Zerker only means stats from items. Running 30/30 fire and air doesn’t mean you’re zerker, it means you’re maximizing your glass cannon status. Can’t say a lot about fractals because I don’t play them but it works good enough in harder dungeons like arah. I can 2man lupi without guardian/ele carrying my kitten (mostly because no guardian or ele melees him).
(edited by haviz.1340)
When will that get to you that your loot will be based on your personal level. Going at lvl 2 for lvl 10 won’t get you ascended gear. It’s only made for easier grouping. So people with levels 2-5-6-8-9 are able to play together.
Are you sure it applies as well to the daily and not only to loots from mobs and chests ?
They didn’t say that but I’m pretty sure they are tied together. Anet doesn’t like to make people’s life easier. You most likely won’t be able to do daily at lvl2 to get ascended.
Stop trying to fix skipping. Anet already said it’s legit. Or give worthwhile drops, not kittens.

-Lodestones and the like as token rewards. It’s been said, it should be done. Simple enough.
This is good idea.
-Unique skins for dungeon content (Armor/weapons). This is separate from the token rewards and drop from chests.
What for? You already got guaranteed skins.
-Better mechanics in fights. Kholer is a GOOD simple mini-boss(though he needs a health reduction). Think SE path 1 first boss, Giganticus Lupicus, fractals have much better mechanics than normal dungeons. Use those examples and revamp old encounters.
If you think kholer have good mechanics, you must have not pay attention to others bosses and see only 3s long animations.
-Hard mode option. This doesn’t mean MORE HP MORE DAMAGE. Hard mode should give the bosses more skills that require attention and maybe even interrupts (IE a heal skill or something). Drop rates in hard mode will be higher, you get 10 more tokens, offers a challenge.
Knowing anet, it’s bad idea
-Disable waypoints while dead. Use the check point system for party wipes like i fractals, stop wp zerging and make players think about what theyre doing. Make failing a punishment that matters, not 50 copper.
I really hope you’re joking. If they put that, they need to put self-suicide option. And dying isn’t 50 copper but 1.7s. I expect a lot of kicking as well, when someone dies while skipping. Sorry but dungeons were designed with waypoints in mind, unlike fractals. You can disable wp zerging during boss fights only. Because that’s the problem (though I can already see pugs spending hours on lupi).
-Fix all exploitative spots. As a quick fix make it so that if a monster cannot deal damage to you it begins to evade and resets. WoW did this quite effectively and it really stops exploiting in most cases where it is in effect here.
It’s a donkey work but they can try. Most exploits don’t invovle getting on safe spots but skipping parts of dungeons.
-Environments that work with the encounter. Self explanatory.
You actually have to explain that. Because it might mean something like environments effects like in old DoA or something like burning barrels when fighting 1st boss in path 2 in Arah. Or simple boulders in AC story.
-Scale down health on most of the trash / bosses. Scale down auto attack damage. They should use 1-2 heavy attacks/skills each that define them as a unit and have THOSE be the abilities to look for and dodge. Constant high auto attack damage doesnt emphasize skill, its just cheap (granted dungeons arent hard but making them more skill based is what im getting at)
So you want all mobs to behave like abominations? or Oakhearts? That would be pretty boooooooooring. You have ways to mitigate damage.
NOW FOR THE IDEA TO FIX SKIPPING……
You have numerous threads about that and numerous answers by anet’s employees. Skipping doesn’t need fix. When you do one dungeon 50th time you really don’t want to kill mobs who drops kittens, your objective is shiny tokens lying at the end of the dungeon.
-snip-
If you assume it takes 60 secs to get all sparks, it’s obviously where lies your problem. You should do that in about 10 secs
.
then find a group that wants that dont ask a group that wants to skip not to. just leave!
Leaving is a waste of time.
So is killing most trash.
You can go full zerker if you’re good with dodging. If you want some passive survivability, get knight’s/valkyrie’s armour or trinkets (trinkets, not counting backpack, give a bit more statistics). You shouldn’t stack defensive stats just because eles got less hp/armour. There’s a good reason for it.
