You can try killing npc in the dart room (after spiders). After she rezzes herself or you rez her, if you won’t talk to her, she usually stays there. That won’t break her scripts.

With the amount of bugs in Arah and the amount of time I’ve wasted on broken paths after spending 30min-1hr in them, I hope these terrain exploits don’t get fixed first.

Maybe because of the size of Arah, there are quite a few terrain exploits to speed up certain parts, which to me, makes up the hours I’ve wasted because of the sheer number of bugs that break npcs activating events.

Heh, completely understandable. Getting no credits for completing pretty long path 1 or bugged last boss in path 4 is really disheartening

I see that you dodge roll the grubs before he actually applies it to you. Do you know if it’s possible to go the other way, dodge roll the grub as it spawns to prevent it from knocking you down? I’ve never bothered to try. Given the fact that you just ate the very last one that he always spawns and stunbreak’d out of it, I’m guessing not.

Also, you can just dodge roll out of the bubble? When I’ve tried that in the past, I usually ended up getting knocked back mid roll once I hit the edge. After trying it and failing a few times I just slapped some stability on and called it a day. Is there a particular trick to it or was I just derping hard as I rolled? I noticed you did fail one or two dodges where you got knocked back after what looks like starting your roll too far from the edge, and you just EP’d out. It’s really the only thing that annoys me in Lupicus and I usually just EP/Balanced Stance out when he targets me with it, but it’d be nice to not have to do that.

If he applies grub to you, you can’t dodge it, at least I haven’t been able to. Seems like stabi and invulnerable skills prevent getting kd. And last grub is unavoidable.

Dodging out of the bubble is possible but it requires good timing.

I did this with a PUG post-patch last night. One person ended up leaving partway into that room, no doubt after realizing that killing the boss would take some absurd length of time. Honestly, it was too long before, now it just makes people avoid the path. It’s a good thing they supposedly fixed path 1, or the only one people would even bother with is path 2.

Nice to know. I’ll remember to stay far from this waste of time, now is so uber.

This boss fight takes about 5 minutes for sub-par pug…. Kholer might take long time for those teams.

I was always doing him in normal way, eg. get 3 people on cannons, shoot lasers, get down, hit him like you mean it, get back up. Is it hard? Or more tedious and boring than ranging him with 2 people spamming autoattacks mostly. It’s definitely shorter.

Same thing with the Arah boss “Wraithlord Mage Crusher”
Was our guilds first time Arah explorable path 3..
But the boss was frozen and didn’t do a single attack..
Also the red circles on the floor didn’t do anything.
No idea if this was known already or since this patch.

There are known safe spot near where he stands. Red circles do nothing until he explodes them (except one red circle attack he uses but he needs line of sight so that attack won’t be used when you’re in safe spot).

On the topic of the champicebrood wolf, it only does the weird aoe once every 15 or so seconds (never really counted, but I feel like its probably somewhere around there). Just let it use it once, then smack on it in melee for a while, then back off for a bit, repeat. Or just man up and eat it anyways! Although yeah, it really probably should have a better visible tell, as I can’t ever tell when it’s about to do it.

I was often facetanking (as in the only “melee” in party) that champ on ele, sometimes on guardian. It’s pretty hard to avoid that but not impossible.

Please drop a nuke on Orr.

There’s this function, I believe it’s bound to ‘v’ key by default. I allows you to skip a lot of portion of that nightmare without being cc’ed. I honestly recommend everyone to use it, it makes life so much easier.

I don’t get those people saying you can’t have a life to get those armours. I got two, yes two, sets of t3 armours, and it didn’t involved playing tp or grinding for months. I was just running dungeons with people I liked or even pugs while levelling my alts (I got two characters from 35 to 80 solely in dungeons). Granted, I’m not planning to get any legendary any time soon if ever.

I guess you can say that if see someone’s wearing it, it means he’s a loser (paid in real money or grinded) but I can say the same about anyone wearing full arah or cof armour. They could do shards run/speedfarms/etc. And yes, I got arah sets (in legit way, only full runs, every path done at least few times).

D/D elementalists are hardly what I’d call a melee class. Your dagger 1 attack range goes from 300 range (earth and air) to 400 (fire) to 600 (water). Try playing with 130 range attacks like the thief and necro dagger 1 skills and we’ll talk melee.

Have you ever seen d/d ele spamming water or fire attacks? Because I still haven’t.

Hardest boss to easiest faceroll in one short patch.

If you mean that she failed to stealth and heal plus not even attacking, it was happening before the patch on rare basis.

This boss was really easy, why there are people that only 2 guys could dps boss down? Sync lazerz, go down for 15s, burst. Rinse and repeat. And as Robert Hrouda said, he already has 50% of others bosses’ hp and less toughness. Do you want all bosses to be afk-able?

Perfectly shows melee is not even viable but on par with ranged weapons (in viability, not damage). It’s also more fun to dodge everything than to just kite around, wouldn’t you agree?

I know, still doesn’t change the fact that when he comes out of the hole and immediately tars someone (whether they dodge it or not they will get hit) or if the whiskey guy goes down (he loses the bottle) and he tars someone else, that person won’t be able to use any skills until they relog. So even though your comment may be helpful to others, it is not a bug fix.

Ye, I know that this skill is bugged, just saying how to minimize the risk of getting it. I haven’t got it even once though.

Well, I was playing pvp in gw1 and you had to interrupt 0.75s skills but your own interrupts were activating in 0.25s plus flight time of arrow (even 0.3s). And you had to do it really reliable, it wasn’t something to be proud of, you had to do it on a regular basis.

But GW1 had cast bars, spells that increased cast time to make interrupts easier and even preventive interrupts that would proc on next skill. Also, there was no fights that I remember were such interrupts were that important and if so, taking a couple interrupt heros with their computer brains would do the trick.

.5 second casts exists in PvP in WoW, but those are harder to predict, and most of those interrupts are cherry picked as highlight movie footages.

I’m not wondering how you dodge those kicks (I guess I should word my rhetoric questions more carefully), I’m suggesting that is not feasible to dodging them by animation consistently.

He does not kick every other attack, he at best kicks once every 20 seconds, with virtually no other attacks within in. So with blinds/aegis you can preemptively avoid them, however trying to dodge them based on animation repeatedly does not seem that realistic.

It’s quite feasbile to dodge them, I heard people saying you had to interrupt some bosses in wow having 0.5s to do so, so how did they manage that? I haven’t played that game so simply wondering.

Also, lupi is immune to blinds, which you should know after getting 4k+ tokens ;P

Evolved husk is the reason why p2 is faster than p1. just l2p.

Bjarl is way faster than husk, just l2DPS.

Evolved husk is that encounter in a room with greenery? If so, it’s very fast, Bartho is correct on this one.

melee attacks do more damage in general. not sure why some people stick to ranged ones… lack of experience i guess.

Dead people have 0 DPS.

Heck, dead people have negative DPS. Their absence is hampering the rest of their group DPS even if they aren’t trying to res them.

So let’s all play ranged hm? We gonna do so much dps that way. Melee is high risk, high reward, unexperienced people will bring your team down, that’s obvious.

I know we shouldn’t be talking about this bug, but I think I got him twice in more than 50 runs and he targets me very often during phase 1 for some reason (5-6 times). More annoying bug for me is when he is supposed to shadowstep during phase 2 and just disappears, not shadowsteping. I can only see red circle indicating his position but can’t see if he’s starting to shadowstep again or do Frenzied Blasts.

Back to the topic, meleeing him is obviously more risky, but at the same time more rewarding, fun and challenging. Might even be how designers intended this fight, not to stack 5 people in one spot dealing with grubs. Last time I was doing arah, I tried to melee him with an ele and it worked quite good but you should swap to s/f for next phases (focus offers too much defense to ignore it).

I actually just went back to check some of my old fraps to see how telegraphed that kick was, the damage occurs about .25-.5 seconds after he lifts his leg (via Youtube timing). The rest of the animation is telegraphed, sure, but the ramp up time is short enough to make avoidance extremely challenging. Maybe you are a far better player than me, but even with 4k+ Arah tokens under my belt and fractal tier 6 experience, I’m definitely not confident enough to avoid that attack on a consistent basis.

The bug occurs often enough to simply not justify the melee DPS increase for my class. You can melee the swarms just fine on weapon switch, especially when they are actually grouped up instead of 30 degrees separated per person.

That bug is really rare, I really don’t know why you say it occurs often enough. Another thing, if you’d attack lupi from the side, not from the front, he will change his direction first to use his kick move. That gives more time for dodging it.

Biggest threat in P1 is getting kick in your face and then getting eaten by Locusts. Melee works quite ok in P2 too (Lupine Blasts have minimum range, melee attack has long animation, doesn’t use dash) only problem being Frenzied Blasts. On melee-range when you see circles you are already dead. P3 should be quite ok if you can dodge out of Nedrid Trap.

Where did you get those names? From data file or just being creative?

If you were to back out on every grub animation, what is the point of melee? Your loss of DPS time would far cancel out any melee DPS increase. This “bug” happens very often. There also exists the inherent flaw of his random kick auto-attack that does 12-15k damage (depending on armor ofc), makes going in and out very much not worth it.

You would need quite the angle of separation to differentiate his target of grub application. This is not favorable. 1. You need people to move frequently to target grubs that spawns on the outside (or those people would need to move to the middle, result in loss DPS time). 2. You can’t AoE the insects that spawn, as they would be very spread out due to your separation.

I had no idea you can simply roll the grub animation, I have personally never seen this done, if this is indeed true it would make phase 1 more melee-friendly.

I didn’t say to go back out on every grub animation, but when you don’t see any grub infection active after his swing and you’re not sure he targetted one of the melee players. And that’s really not happening that often (I got it maybe twice in a lot of runs)

You need to be seperated by about 30 degrees angle to know who he targetted.

If you’re meleeing him, swarms get hit as well because they often go for the nearest target. So you’re doing more dps overall than ranged (while losing time on dealing with swarms). That “random” kick is highly telegraphed as well (blocks, dodges, invul work as with normal skills).

I assume the big animation you are talking about is for forward swing for grub application, which can result on any one of the five members. As big as that animation is, it is quite useless if I can’t tell who it is on.

I’m talking about the insect animation that surrounds your character, to indicate that you will have a grub spawning on you soon.

Grubs will spawn after he roars so if you can’t see greenish glow (insect animation) on anyone you could just go back to your team just to be safe. Secondly, that animation is far from useless. If you wouldn’t stack in one place but, lets say, attack him from few different directions, you knew precisely who he’d targetted. And lastly, using invulnerable skills or simply dodging (don’t think that blocking skills work) during forward swing will avoid grub application completely.

Sometimes you do not have notifications when you are about to get grubbed, the animation doesn’t appear on your screen all the time (while it shows for other players).

Lupi gives a big notification, I mean, really big.

If we are gonna make smart comments then my answer is: I was probably killing lupicus in greens and melee(except first phase which is the problem of the design i mean.) while you were still leveling.

P1, tar monster
When a player gets covered in tar it’s basically good night. They can’t move for an entire minute, the tar CAN’T be burnt off, they can’t use any ability to get out, if they go downed and res they won’t be able to use any abilities. If they die, wp back, they won’t have any abilities. If they somehow manage to survive the full minute they will be granted with, you guessed it, the ability to have no abilities.

Sometimes the NPC disappears and you can’t find her.

You need to keep tar boss perma burned, otherwise he will use that skill .

It’s quite good actually. You go with a pug, see who’s above average, and it him/her to your flist for future runs.

have meleed every encounter in game, apart from Phase one Lupi, have meleed phase 2 and 3. You cannot afford to melee phase one becuase it screws over your group if grubs spawn on you.

On lupi make sure you time the blocks well for the AOE circle spam during phase 2, and make sure you have stability up as he does a knock back during phase too that will know you back 900 if you get hit without stability.

You can melee him in phase 1. Just did it with 3 ppl in melee. Took us about 30-40 seconds to get him to phase 2 so it’s much better than “pug” tactics (usually 2-3 minutes)

You mean people who have put in the effort to exploit the dungeon early? People were already decked out in Arah armor from those early shard runs. Sorry but having Arah armor doesn’t mean you’re 1337, it just means you exploited Arah instead of CoF as far as I’m concerned. Arah armor is right behind CoF armor in noob level.

Does that mean I am noob?
On the serious note, I thought all dungeons were quite easy.

SE path 2

My group gave up on SE paths 1 and 2. Several patches ago, these paths were broken so that the boss you mentioned pretty much clears a group with a huge aoe. It’s not easy to just dodge out because of how big it is and how long it lasts.

Path 1 still has infinite Inquest spawns, even when fighting the first boss. My group never got past the first boss because of it, so I don’t know if they continue after that.

Finally, path 3 has invisible floor lava on the curve after the first boss, which is a pain, but is manageable. It’s slow going trying to finish my armor set with only 1 out of 3 paths viable.

Both those paths are doable, though I agree that path 1 might be a bit too difficult for your standard pug. And I thought they nerfed bosses in path 2.

Fracs are good dungeons… They need to use this model for all dungeons when they rework them. Maybe have level ranges 1-5-, 5-10 and so on, Also don’t have selectable paths. Have random ones selected for you. + LFG should have never been left out of the game.

Oh, I can already see how people will do path 1 or 4 in arah when the system selects it for them! Leave that ridiculous scalling where it belongs (bin with bad and scrapped designs). You shouldn’t be forced to grind through faceroll levels just to get to the harder and more challenging part.

And I agree, fractals failed to meet my expectations, I’ve been saying that since day 2.

You can, in fact, do almost everything in melee range (I guess phase 3 with lupi might be a bit too hard, maybe not if dodging out of green dome of death was easier), in fact it’s more fun and challenging.

Actually, fractals don’t allow people from other server to join your instance. It’s only possible when you’re all on the same overflow server. Other dungeons, on the other hand, allow to group with people on other servers, no matter if on overflow or not. You can’t play with EU if you’re on NA server though and vice versa.

Yeah, like Braxxis said, that’s probably not supposed to happen. The new waypoint in that tar boss room I think is supposed to spawn in the Jotun path and doesn’t. So it’s bugged in that it shouldn’t exist in the path you did. Not that it doesn’t open.

Probably true, that waypoint should spawn in Jotun path after killing tar boss, not in Forgotten path where you don’t even go near that place. Also, those waypoing have same names.

Because no mater how you look at it the way the grubs spawn from Lupicus in that fight is bugged and need a serious look at.
They should NEVER spawn from Necros horror trait “that cant be change less making that build useless” or like wise ranger pets and Mesmer clone should NEVER!!! spawn grubs this just make other play resent these class and refuse to take them in a party if this is not a bug i don’t know what is.

You can stow pets and shatter clones. Only issue seems to be necro traited at least 5 in death magic.

Yes, lets make every Fractal a horrid armor repair grind, just like the old dungeons!
People are having way too much fun right now. I suggest we add Lupicus as a final boss to every Fractal to effectively stomp out all that cheer.

If you’re continously dying more than 1-2 times during lupi’s fight, you really need to improve. Besides, he’s one of the few fun encounters in the game.

They’re not that bad! My fave dungeon (bias because it has my favourite armour) but you will enjoy it

There ARE worse dungeons than HotW, but it doesn’t mean paths 2 and 3 are good.

Especially the endbosses.

There aren’t worse bosses than those from path 2 and 3 unless you enjoy fighting them for 10-15 minutes in underwater. Last time I went for a cup of tea while fighting them.

Account Bound Story Mode Completion

As long as no mob will enter a zone during the ritual it stays in your control, so it’s possible to do it. In fact, many time when I’ve been pugging that path I had firsttimers without a clue what to do (even after thorough explanation) and they actually have died so I’ve been left with 1 person and we still finished the ritual. You just need 1 person to kite wraiths and 1 person to cap zones.

Lupicus and Subject Alpha(path3) are the only real bosses in the entire game. Me and my guild team made all paths of all dungeons together and i think those 2 were the only ones where we failed A LOT at the beginning, then we got to know the mechanics and never needed a second try . Yes, the waypoint is far away when you don’t know how to do it, but you only learn to do it right if you cant just die and just run back to continue. About kiting. I play Elementalist and if you choose the right traits and play staff, you can indeed kite him indefinitly (maybe even solo him (phase 1 would be the greatest challenge))

Phase 1 is the easiest of every phases, no idea why would you say it would be the greatest challenge. Just kite the locust swarms.
